Did anyone else hear that they're putting in a new course in Appomattox? It's a Girl Scout project. Chuck VanD mentioned this a couple of months ago and it was in the Lynchburg News and Advance yesterday (Monday the 26th). They have 100 acres off of VA 613 set aside and the Girl Scouts have already raised over $10K for buckets and tee boxes. I'm not sure who they're working with on this (maybe Chuck?), but yesterday's article said that the course will have both Recreational and Pro tees. The article said that construction's already begun. Cool, huh?

I like to think of myself as an artist. An architect will design the interior and exterior of a building to make it pleasing to the eye. An engineer will design the steel support that will make the building stand up. I actually draw each individual steel beam, column, angle, handrail and stair, including all the connections. The company that I work for makes the pieces and then puts them up at the jobsite. One way to look at it is that I draw each piece of the puzzle from the picture.

Three days left until the Battlefield Open. Come on out and enjoy a good time. See how much fun a PDGA event can be. I think this year there will be bunches of CTP's and other goodies.
Can't wait Chris. Bad news and good news for you Jimmy. Bad news is 3 Kramers are coming. Good news is only 2 are in your division. Andrew moved up.

BATTLEFIELD OPEN is in two days. Why haven't YOU registered?
Have one very important question re the Battlefield Open - is lunch provided? We're making our grocery list and have to plan accordingly. I find that in order to sustain my massive girth I must consume large quantities of food.

where are you staying for the battlefield? Rick was going to call me but have heard nothing from him.
John
looking forward to seeing you again and meeting the sons. dorey is tuff for me but gillies is my home course. expecting to shoot par at gillies (haha fingers crossed) dorey will be the course that breaks me. are ya'll getting a hotel or staying with friends?
Jimmy,
We're staying at Amelia Family Campgrounds, about 25 miles away. Towing the popup and bringing the whole family so hopefully the rain will stay away for a couple of days! I've never played any of the Richmond courses but I've heard good things about them - looking forward to it. I'm cutting out of work early and we're leaving this afternoon.

Here are my observations. There was a deluge on Saturday and today was cloudy with periods of sun. For the first time in a while, there were no DNF's. I saw at least five discs hit chains but nothing stuck. Brian Skinner won the throw off for the ace pot and beat out 11 year old Brent Collins by a fraction of an inch.
Thanks to sponsors Discraft, EDGE LEAGUE, Dan Gualdoni, Will Lewis, and the Newport News Disc Golf Club.
Many people gave prizes and I gave away a bunch of CTPs. The hottest round per group the last round got a free disc. The cash equivalent in the am divisions is per the PDGA tables. I threw in much more. I gave a disc to everyone who did not cash in their division.
Even though there are constant complaints as well as annoying questions, it really feels good to give as well as receive the thanks for running the tournament. If you get the chance, come spend a weekend in June with me.

Nick appearances are pretty scarce around here. I usually see him lurking at events in Delaware or Pa. I will say this and people should believe me. Nick is a nice guy and is fun to be around. On the message board he gets to be his alter-ego, Jerk-Master's-Debater-Man.
Does anybody have any information on the horizon park classic. Fees, start times, format?

Will, Horizons is in North Carolina. There is a thread in the archives with all of the info.
PP. Loriella is really nice. It has 9 open and 9 wooded holes. The open holes are up and down hills. It is a bunch of fun to play. The tees are natural and do have a tendency to get nasty. Bring some cleats. I really don't plan on playing but I may change my mind. I am so tired of being injured that I'm thinking about taking a few weeks off. I will probably still come out and watch or help out or caddie.

We are considering a 2-day event, which would be held @ Signal Knob DGC (Landons' course)...and Sherando. Not sure when, or how, but will post in future. Also have to check with the ODDS format, to see if this will be a good idea...if not, we may just have the "4th Shenandoah Shag" (Landons' course) and the "Sherando Spring break-out" remain ODDS events, and create another tournament all together.

Kirk, Walt called me and invited me to stay but I couldn't do it. As I explained to him, I have spent the last two months with nagging injuries that don't want to get better. If I want to be healthy for Flagstaff, I need to take some time off. I am trying not to push myself. I am only playing in one event this month.

Time stands still at the Grange. PDGA rules and sanctioning agreements don't mean anything. Download the PDGA TD Report onto a laptop, get a case of Heineken, put on your swim trunks and drive on over. Sit out by the pool with Mike and you'll have a much better chance at getting results than posting it here. I think he only uses the internet for EBay.

I'm traveling to Norfolk in 2 weeks to visit friends. Having played Bayville years ago I plan on stopping by Newport News and Ace Run with some
friends who are once a year golfers. Any recommendations considering traffic and playing the courses on a Thur or Friday during the day? Thanks!

Dave, if your friends are once a year golfers, they would enjoy NN much more than the Ranch. Pay your $1 at NN and have fun.

Jul 09 2003, 02:02 PM
I'll second that. And in summer time, the tourists make driving to the south side of Hampton Roads a major pain in the backside (oh no, I'm in a tunnel under the water - I have to slow down to 35 MPH). You may never get there. However, access to NN is easy from the interstate.

Are any of you chatty-cathy's out there able to bring baskets this weekend to Duck Golf?
We're still a few short and desperately tryng to avoid having to come up with the same creative solutions employed at this year's SuperDoubles.
In fact, if you bring a portable basket to this year's event you will be entered in a drawing for a REVOLUTION MINI Disc Golf Bag.
Let me know you've brought a basket on Saturday morning and you're in!

Jimmy-
The MINI bag isn't for minis. Its just a smaller version of our other bags - holds 8-10 discs with a pocket. That doesn't mean that you can't fill it with mini's though.
Bill-
If push comes to shove, I'll send my brother over to pick up you basket.
John-
Thanks for the basket and the giveaways. We will be serving up a few more ctp's thanks to the support of 2 Stroke!

If you could get Pete to pick up your basket, I'll put both your names in the raffle!

Ron-
Feel free to just show up and register the morning of the event. We have 20 holes to work with so no problem filling up.
Terry West and I were out there on Monday evening and the course, as always, was in beautiful condition. We played the last four or five holes into a brilliant sunset over the mountains!

I love that area of Virginia, and the course is very decent. Dang! And it's a C-Tier with reasonable entry fees too. Wish I could make it.
Is that little dinker hole with a left and right alley still there? My favorite is the one along the outside hill sloping to the left with cedar trees and a protected pin, a very nice par 3.
Enjoy!
Nick that better be a 2 if you want to keep your rating in the upper 900's!
And maybe you could win one of the coveted WVO PDGA # mini's.
I'm waiting to see how my friend's from Sherando
decide to give them away!

Nick-
The course has stayed pretty much the same since it was first installed. A few years back, they added a couple holes to kick up the count to 20 holes.
One of the new holes runs along the same hill as the infamous #11 with all the cedars. it is a bit clearer but there's a long pin position that would make any Patapsco-phile smile (provided your drive or approach lands below the hole!)
The other newer hole (#20) is a long, wide open bomber. If the wind kicks up even the slightest bit, you'll see drives spraying everywhere. Not that this has ever happened to me...

One of the nice things about playing a tournament at Sherando is the opprtunity to play the long tee and pin positions that are only used for special events.
We'll incorporate as many of these options as possible for the afternoon round. Pluse we'll have tons of great CTP's, longest putt contests, ace pots, etc. to kep you entertained.
If you want more details, check out our event flyer at the following address:

See you there!

The way I see it is that I have been beaten by a certain puppy in the last two tournaments that I have played and I do not want to end the season that way. So, I feel that I must play in VA this week (in your division) to see if it was just a fluke or if I am gonna have to start respecting your game (like I already do your diatance).
95% sure I'll be there

dsglfnpool...aka Terry...
If you have any.... please bring me any WHITE discs with course stamps from your area and I will pay you for them when I see you at Sherando. OR, I will win them on a side bet with you, even though you have moved to pro and your skills have improved greatly, you are still a "Burke Lake Rival" to me...so how many strokes a round you going to give me???
Only course stamps, no dates or tournaments, just discs with XXXX course in XXXX state park etc...
Really glad to hear you are coming down...look forward to talking with you a little more than last time I saw you...
Peace...300.21

Sorry Mr. Bailey, I don't have any white course stamped discs. I may be able to pick you up a couple of different ones but not before this weekend. Besides, we don't call any of our courses XXXX or even 4X. They all have names:-)

Yeah Terry...4X is just in reference to my shirt size...but not yours anymore. Bad joke for a man with the brains of a doctor. If you are in town for a while maybe some $$$ pool after the tournament, or on Friday if you arrive early, I can go stay with friends in Winchester area. And I am poor so the "hustle" on a doctors' wallet sounds real good.
I will give you 5 balls "in" off my brake, ok?...(oldest hustle in the book)...rent "Poolhall Junkies" (movie) when you get a chance. And I have actually ran this "hustle" before!
Tell me if you will be in town friday?

You will have to settle on a LPC's wallet as I decided long ago to skip the PHD. However, if you think that you will open it buy playing pool you may have more than 300.21, you are approaching being downright (technical term) delusional. I won't know for sure if I am going until tonight, but it looks like I will be and that I will arrive to the course by about 2:00 on fri (means leaving home at 5:00 am) but probably won't be able to make pool afterward. If you want to play pool, I know where there is an 8', 7/8" framed slate, leather pocked table if you ever make it up this way.
Hey, do you (or you Puppy, or any of my other old VA friends out there) have any stingrays, new or used, that you would like to trade? If so bring to course.

Ronnie those aren't yours, they're your brother's
you aren't old enough to have any decent stingrays!
But he does have a sweet mini!!!

Terry you'll be ordering a mini before you leave the VA area (again).

We have 20 holes to work with and the rounds should move fast, so come on out and join us for what is shaping up to be a great event at a fun course.
Special thanks to:
