Sorry Rich, it's all part of my marketing strategy. I sell someone a ticket, smile and say, "You are so gonna win". Everyone is usually happy until they find out that I was a typical salesperson and lied through my teeth. All I can say is that I'm sorry.

Chris Hysell

Any other excuses people have heard from LL? You have to call the shield when you get it? Come on... the **** thing makes a noise when someone gets it.

LL says that one whenever he forgets that he switched how is controller is set up or that he didn't switch his controller set up. You could remind him, but it is funnier to listen to him complain that his guy is swinging randomly.
Mark, once I get an xbox it should just be a day or so until you will be slain! I have to be prepared to change rooms every game to keep you happy. I never said to call the shield. Chris did that on his on because he always claimed to have it.

Landon lives in Strasburg off of rt 11. Here are my best directions without knowing street names.
Get on I-81and exit at the Strasburg exit. Turn right onto Rt 11 and take your 1st left and then an immediate left. Follow that road until you see a church and a concession stand and a ballfield. Turn right and follow the driveway to the split. Stay to the right and the course is ahead at the turn along the line of cedars.

Last year there was about 30 folks that showed up divided betweet 4 divisons. Poor turn out was blamed on another tournament being on the same date. Nope no bets; Chris. 31 of those players are locals. I think they play every Sunday at 7:00 AM. I think that is what I was told at the Battlefield. I will bet that is why the tournament is always sch. for a Sunday. It must be the only time they can get out of the house. Their wives are gone to church and they sneek out!
I spoke with Brandon last night, tournament is going to try and Tee at 9:30. This is a nice backyard course with many unusual holes, elevation, woods and fields that run along a river. I believe it is a 20 or 22 hole course.

Ok, the directions to the Shenandoah Shag are....OOPS!!
I guess I am a lil' late. Sorry to all, I thought that the many fliers, and the constant "begging", would do the trick, I was wrong, as usual. I, Brandon Bailey, promise to not only to produce fliers, and word-of-mouth', but ALSO to make sure that ALL information is posted online, in a very easy, and understanable, manner so all will have access to it...well before the tournament date.
I want to thank anyone, and eveyone, who assisted people in attending the Shag' this year. Only 38 participants, I know MY FAULT, but I think the day was a success overall. Hope those who made it feel the same way. I also will not mention any other tournaments that are going on at the same time as the Shag'...this is no excuse, and should be frowned upon.
OK....enough of the negative...The 5th Shenadoah Shag will be sometime in June of 2005. We hope to have $500+ this year, and hope to still be a part of the ODDS series. Fliers will be available this coming March 2005, with DIRECTIONS ON THE BACK AGAIN!....just in case....from 81south (towards Roanoke)...take exit #298 (Route 11)....at top of ramp take right onto Route 11....travel about 200 yards, and take immediate left, *(stay to your left), onto Oranda Road...travel about 2 miles into the town of Oranda, take a roght onto Old Factory Road, (across from church and also a gravel road)...follow this road about 1 mile straight into 971 Old Factory Road...straight to course. Again, call 703.401.4616 for information, and call Landon @ 540.465.4907 if you become lost.
I will be posting information, and directions, every month or so, from now until June of 2005, at that time I will disappear from the face of the earth, until tournament time. ;)
See everyone @ Duck Golf...I think people will be suprised of the return of the Frog/ducK' on the trophies.
Peace Brandon

Michael, Duck Golf is in Va. If that isn't a good enough answer I will try to 'splain.
Typically Virginians don't preregister. They are a bunch of wait-until-the-last-minute-weather-channel-checking-*******.
The flyer says there is a 90 player limit. Since this is played on a 27 hole course, it can hold much more than 90 players.
So, wake up Saturday morning, check the weather channel and make your decision.

Confusing questions there Jimmy. There are people that work for the PDGA. It isn't an all knowing rule book that snaps it's fingers and things get done.
If a td sends the results in electronically, it gets reviewed and posted as final if everything is okay.
Now if a td mails the results in, it gets reviewed and then translated into a foreign language which is determined by the spin of the wheel. Then the results are sent overseas by DHL to a sweatshop in the back of an abandoned warehouse. There it is transfered to a computer. Then it gets sent back to the PDGA, retranslated and checked. If everything is okay, then the results are posted. If not, spin the wheel.

jimmy,
posting the scores to the net can now be done by the td by a separate process than submitting the event results to the org, if the td does not do that then i assume thay are posted after the td report is processed at pdga hq. i welcome correction from those better in the know.

Pat mullins won the usdgc bid...got me by 1 stroke.

hopefully, but it is up to the players to come out and support it. we will likely approach $4000 added cash but are still taking a bit of a risk of not meeting tour standards.

I played the Golden Hills this past Sunday, and the course is at it's all time best. Mitch has just completed the "re-configuration" of the course, here is the info for you guys who haven't been there in a while. The former hole #16 that played uphill towards the picnic shelter is GONE, and in its place is a new hole that plays on the lower side of the hill and still goes towards the shelter, but closer than the former hole. It requires a more powerful and accurate tee-shot to ensure you get that par, birdie will only be an option for the LONG, LONG arms. And, this is now hole #18, and a great finishing hole too, I might add. The old #17 is now Hole #1 and #18 is now #2, yatta, yatta, yatta. Also, there is a permanent practice basket right beside the shelter. Like I said earlier, the course is now at it's all-time best, so be sure not to miss-out on the festivities this weekend.

Have they cut any trees yet? I go every year just to see if they have cut that krap out of hole #15. And to beat up on the locals.

Is Golden Hills the new name for the course formerly known as Pleasant Run? Or is Golden Hills another course altogether? If so, is there a new name for Pleasant Run?
Jeff_Peters
Jul 27 2004, 10:46 AM
The Golden Hills Disc Golf Course is the public course in Christiansburg, VA hosting the Blue Ridge Open this Sunday. The #15 refered to is now Hole #17 and yes, there has been a couple of trees removed, and they were the two that was just in front and to the left of the basket on that top-tier. They were not removed by choice, but rather, the hill washed out there and the trees went with it. Everything else is still there and taller than last year.

Is Golden Hills the new name for the course formerly known as Pleasant Run? Or is Golden Hills another course altogether? If so, is there a new name for Pleasant Run?
golden hills is likely listed in the directory as montgomery county park. the volunteers (led by mitch) have put in an enormous amount of time on the course as it is fully wooded and in the real mountains. blue ridge open is the best run event in virginia not run by someone named biscoe. if it were not my girlfriend's birthday this weekend i would be on my way to blacksburg.
new name for pleasant run remains tbd. my normal inclination is to call anything in spotsy "golden horseshoe" for historical reasons but there is a BG course close by bearing that name. my next choice would be "plentiful creek" (actually the name of the stream) but there is a farm with that name locally as well. currently i am mulling over a variety of stuff regarding local fauna- likely to be hawk something-or-other as hawks are cooler than cattle. perhaps i should just give it a symbol.
btw course ssa from last weekend's event was 61, nestling between the woodshed and the whipping post. woods holes are better here though. :D

I have played in a few events this year where the M was the biggest field. The 1998 BRO at Fishburn park had a large M field. I was 35 then and legal to play M and claimed that as another of my conquests. I might own that part of Va.

My predictions came true again. I let Whorley win open because I played in the bigger division, the M, which I won. Officer Woods finished 2nd in Open and took the $$$$. Little Big Man Caleb won advanced because there wasn't a juniors division offered. Somehow there wasn't any rain in Christiansburg the entire weekend. Oh yeah, I won the basket also. It was my first time ever winning a basket.

scores for this event are posted... well done. however, someone needs to notify the pdga that the intermediates played whites the 2nd round where everyone else played the blues. you'd think someone would notice when an intermediate has a 1000+ rated round. hyzer, i nominate you for the notifier position...
Chris Hysell
Aug 03 2004, 07:18 PM
Jeff, I will accept your appointment to the position of official notifier. The first step I will take is to notify the td. This is because I assume he posted the scores himself. I assume this because I played two rounds with him and probably mentioned more than once how easy it was to post results. I also mentioned how poorly other td's had handled this. Maybe this will be resolved by the time we all return from Iowa.

The WVO, buy a mini.
Sorry about that. I did not follow the excellent instructions from the PDGA about on line scoring. I have updated the scoring information to include course layout. The results have been updated to reflect the new information.
I would like to thank all of the people that came out to the Blue Ridge Open. I hope everyone had a great time. Thanks to Chris Hysel for being the great guy that he is. Thanks to Mitch Hoeppner for making the course what it is. Thanks to all of the people that helped get the course in great shape. And a special thanks to my wife for helping make the tournament run as smooth as it did. Hope to see you all next year!!!
Oh, also thanks to hole 15 (old hole 13) that Mitch got a seven on. That is probably what got me into the lead group for the second round. Mitch had 12 birdies the first round and only shot 4 down. There is alot of trouble to be had at the Blue Ridge Open!! If you can avoid it, you will do well.

The ribbon cutting ceremony for the Elk Creek Disc Golf Course is August 14th, 2004 at 11:00am. This will be a big deal with Town-Councilmen and other big-wigs in attendance. Please feel free to attend the dedication of the course, which will be followed with refreshments at 12:00. **This is not the opening of the park--This will happen when the park road is paved(few weeks/months)**
At 1:00, there will be an informal disc golf tournamentfor $10 with all proceeds going to the girl scouts. We encourage everyone to attend and give back to the scouts, who have raised over $14,000 for this course!!!
The course is long and wooded with the white tees in the 5000+ft range. There will only be a few cement pads in by the 14th, the rest are rough/natural. The course has Mach III baskets, with excellent tee signs. I predict that the SSA for the course will be 51-53 range from the white tees and into the 60's from the blues. Pro par for the course is ~60 from the whites and ~64 from the blues.
Please PM me or email me if you want directions. As soon as the paved road goes in, I will post the directions on the PDGA Course Directory.

no plans for any organized play prior to the showdown although i may have an organized work day. folks are playing most every sunday at this point however and i am attempting to keep the grass cut semi-regularly. (although the storms appear to be ruining my mowing plans for this weekend and the creek will be mighty angry sunday if we get the weather they are calling for). you are welcome to play any time as long as you let me know you will be down there. it may get loud during dove season.
go shane! go kelly! go jj!
