My putter was on fire for a whole round last night! That was a great feeling that I don't usually get to experience. I had a four hole stretch where I nailed a long putt on each. I was odd-man at doubles and won Tuesday night "league" by one stroke with a park job on 18. (Only neede a 10 foot putt for that one, which can be trouble at other times.) :)

My putters gonna be on fire real soon! I think I'm gonna pour some gasonline on it and throw it in the camp fire. I'll feel much better after I do that, I know it!

I once threw a disc off of the top of the Empire State Building in 1977. It was a C.P.I. All Star Saucer Tosser, which was easily the most awesome disc of it's day.
A precursor of the modern golf disc.
Wish I still had it.

If you throw a perfect ace, it's not a bad shot. By perfect I mean that the disc just reaches the chains and drops in. A shot like this, had it missed the ace, would still fall near the pole.
If you just throw as hard as you can at the chains from the tee, then I'd agree, that type of ace shot is a bad shot.

Back to good ace, bad ace.
Bla bla bla bullsh1t. An ace is a bad shot because IF it would have missed and these non-putting board posters had to putt for birdie, they would miss their putts also. That means that they can't drive and they can't putt. Maybe they should stick to posting and not playing.
A made putt is a bad shot. IF it would have missed it would have gone by and the come back putt would be missed also.
I'm just bitter because I haven't aced in about 6 months but I still make 99% of my birdie putts from my ace runs. That's because I can putt and know how to throw a shot that has a chance to go in but stay close to the basket. :D

I played ball golf with Randy Johnson about 20 years ago when he was with Montreal. I kicked his arse, too. Boy can that guy hit an 8-iron! When I pulled out an official baseball for him to sign at the end of the round he was almost embarrassed. It's a sloppy signature, but one of his early ones. Nice game, Randy!

It took forever but I got ace #109 today. The best part was that it was on a hole that had never been aced before. I pay $75 for holes in our tournaments that haven't been aced. It's almost like I made money on it.
I bicycled a total of 111 miles [3 round trips] to volunteer at the National Tour event @ Lama.

In League at Stafford last night, I got a "3" on Hole 9...sure it was in the "short" (968' :p) :D
As far as our club knows it is the 1st "3" taken on that hole in "Singles" that was "witnessed".
I have gotten it before, as has Brad Armstrong..but niether had any witnesses so this is a nice verified "3". Michael Travers/Jim Oates had a "3" in Doubles but there have been no others. At least none that weve heard of :D
Hole 9 will go back to its original position at 1049' for next weekends Stafford Lake Open (http://www.norcalseries.com/2004/Flyers/StaffordLakeOpen_2004.doc)

he lost a bet to V. this past weekend :p
A sucker bet, no less.....
Granted, 5 strokes a round between me and Vinnie is a sucker bet, but with the fact that I have played him fairly well in recent history and have been playing better in general at Lago, it was doable. He only had me by a stick after the first round. All I needed was one more round close to the 1st and I'd have had him. I struggled pretty bad after getting so excited to shoot a best ever rated round that I lost the focus that got me there and he played the way he's supposed to...but, it could've happened. ;)

It was the 1st time I finished in 1st place in a sanctioned event. It was also the 1st time I entered a 1 on my scorecard during a tournament. Appropriately, I aced Hole #1 which marked the 1st time I won an ace fund - paying me $104.

Jun 07 2004, 03:53 PM
The best score with baskets is a 48, not best score ever. I have never played a round of singles with the baskets. That's why it's only a 48. I think there are about 12 or 13 birdies on that course. Probably more like 15 or 16 to longer throwers.

I only installed baskets on 1, 11, & 13 on April 16, so there's only been one big event for LOW scoring. Come on out & tear up that 48; it's not so easy in summer w/ full foliage. I'm only about a 360' thrower, but a big arm could park 10 or 11 holes -IF- he could negotiate all of the trees.
I've thrown 3 discs into the pond on hole 7 @ cedar hills - raleigh, NC in 2 days. I got 2 of them back.

10 year old Kiralyn played Intermediate women this weekend at IOS #2 The Crystal Cruise. She finished 3rd of 5 to take the last prizing spot. More to boast about, the woman who finished last was playing her first tournament. Kira used some of her funny money to buy that woman a disc.
Depending on how many pro women show up for IOS #3, Kelsey has a mathematical chance to win the overall Pro Woman title. Barrett is locked out from competing by a family commitment. Kelsey is two points back in second place. If Kelsey beats one other woman Kelsey and Barrett tie and players not present lose all ties.

Cashed at doubles last night with a 15y.o. kid who had been playing for 3 days. He got a 2 stroke handicap so I basically played singles and got 2 strokes subtracted. My putter was on fire for most of the round, and we would have won had I not missed a few easy putts the last few holes.
Very rewarding to see his distance go from 100 to 170 after I gave him some basic advice. Putts were a lot better by the end of the round too.

Sounds like you when playing doubles before DGLO 2 years ago. We'll, at least the 170ft part, not the improvement part-even though you were playing with 2 touring pros.
Yeah got lucky and had Chris Heeren as my partner. I just learned how to throw forehand earlier in the year and actually was throwing about 220 or so. Nick dont kid yourself. You may be able to throw 350 but you cant throw 400. On the other hand you have been getting alot better this year. As soon as you learn a consistent putt and a FREAKIN backhand you may become a serious threat in the MI Advanced Field.

I just saw side-by-side pictures of me throwing three weeks ago, and my coach throwing during his hey-day. We have virtually the same form. (Picture taken from different angles at slightly different times of the follow through, but the resemblence is there). :D

Click on DGB Club, and we are the only two people in which our picture shows us throwing instead of just standing there.

On the other hand you have been getting alot better this year. As soon as you learn a consistent putt and a FREAKIN backhand you may become a serious threat in the MI Advanced Field.
If anyone ever says you don't say anything nice on here you can point them to that post. But you didn't have to exaggerate so much. :D

First $100+ cash this saturday. Tied for 5th at a local B tier. played halfway decent while helping to run the tournament. Every moment I wasn't playing was spent running something, doing registration, or doing scorecards. Was very happy to cash.
hit my 5th ace this morning, it was my first ace with a Roc (glo 180g). :D

True- similar situation for Coda too. Coda was winning tournaments by 10-15 strokes. Matt needs to get to some big AM A tiers and see how he does.

Hes 16 but has been playing for 5 years and BAGGED the heck out of a Jr World Championship. I just dont think he likes playing against people who are as good or better then him. Im 22 and have not even played tournaments for 2 years and just won my first tournament EVER and people are already telling me to move up. How old you are makes no diff its how long youve been playing and how many times you have won and i think 20+ advanced wins even against NO COMP is enough to MOVE UP!!! If i win more then 5 tournaments this year Ill move up next year. Whats the point in winning more discs. This year ill just be giving away my funny money or getting stuff to donate as CTPs unless they have something that I would actually put in my bag. Im going to finish out the year because I want a shot at Am Nationals again and if i place top 3 there then I will also consider moving up even if I dont have more then 5 wins.

16 yrs is a perfect age to move up. He's playing at a high skill level right now, regardless of age. To keep getting better he's gonna need to challenge himself by competing with golfers that are equal to, or better then him....in tournaments. Right now, there seems to be little, or NO competition.
Luke Butch
Apr 26 2005, 12:15 AM
"consider moving up if I finish in the top 3"?
Don't get into this mindset. Too many people get that mindset about worlds and then end up being Adv. for years till they have that great finish. What if you have a good year but get a short-term injury? Do you play a another year of Adv.? Just get your rating over 950 at the end of this year and then turn Pro.
To the super-bagger: hope your happy with all those discs. How much money could you have won by now had you shot the same ratings in Open?
I'd take a low-mid cash spot at every other tournament rather than win Adv. every time. Oh, wait that's what I'm doing right now.

I wish I could play open to tell you the truth I would like to have about 1000 bucks this year and $300 in bonuses to go along with that but the fact is that I am still having trouble with shooting as well in tournaments as I do in casual rounds. If I would've lost this weekend I was planning on moving up and declining until worlds but I guess that will have to wait until another day. I will be at the NT in waco (let's see how I finish) and I will be making quite a few Pro tournaments in preparation for the stiff competition at worlds. This June I will be making KCWO, Mid-Nats, ?greater des moines?, and another big one so hopefully I can test my skills in some large fields. Lastly the Discs I win I usually donate to CTP's, give to juniors, and then I sell them. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

I agree, this a big reason why people in NC stay adv for so long, the pro field at B or C tiers is intimidating. However, you can only get so good playing adv. I plan on moving up next year b/c i think i am going to Arizona for AM worlds. The pro entry fee is also more expensive if u dont think u can cash consistently.

Keep talking with know knowledge. I know some people who have seen you play and I have heard some things. Just wait till the next ratings update and the end of the year when im SMOKING you  The highest rated player in your STATE is 985. I have 4 or 5 thousand rated players that regularly play on the course I play.
There are only 4 people in your ENTIRE state with a ratings thats even with 10 points of yours. Thats the ENTIRE state. That doesnt even mean they are in your area. TEXAS IS HUGE!!!!!!!! You may NEVER have to play against them or ANYONE who is as good as you. Then there is only 16 players within 20 points of your rating. WOW you must feel good when you beat them huh???
Now lets look at my state and we will compare once it gets nice out and I can actually play everyday and compete every weekend. We will just start with ratings. As of right now im 924 but I will be atleast 944 at the next update if not higher. There are 13 players in MY AREA that are better then me that i will be beating on a regular basis and im not even counting the guy rated 970 cuz that was a fluke and im not using Romine or Slater either because they are pro. So that 16 people that are BETTER then me who i play against all the time. Now we will do same skill level combined with 20 points below. There are 26 people in my state that i play against on a regular basis that are within 20 points of my rating and I HAVE to play against them because they live around me and play the tournament I play. YOU on the other hand NEVER have to play against competition because your competition in your state prolly lives 10 hours away  Its not even possible for me to drive 10 hours in ANY direction and still be in MI unless i go to the UP and they DONT have tournaments up there. Actually I dont even think its possible for me to drive more then 5 ours in any direction without leaving the state  which means everyone good is pretty much at every tourney so once the MI tournies and my other A Tiers go up youll prolly stop running your mouth since i have already WON an A Tier and finished 7th in the biggest Am event in the world and you have never finished higher then 14th in an A Tier  Wait maybe thats because there is COMPETITION at A Tiers  Just cuz your good in Texas doesnt mean your good. Now if your good in MI or NC or CA then your can say your good everywhere but untill you really PROVE your good or place well at a tournament where you have competition you really have nothing to back up your mouth or your wins

Apr 27 2005, 02:38 PM
Just look at the top 50 am ratings in your state and THEN tell me you have competition. Pure and simple. YOU DONT. Your the 3rd highest rated AM in Texas and its a HUGE state. You will prolly NEVER play against all the AMs in your state. You prolly wont even play against HALF of them. Theres no competition and thats the truth. The ratings prove it. Sorry but you dont have a leg to stand on for this one.

Pimp, Scooter will crush you like a little bug and beat you like a rented mule. Have you even seen him. The kid is about 6' 5", throws a wizard 550' about 6 feet off the ground. He'd probably be rated 1030 if he didn't have to play against all those underrated Texas slugs all the time. ;)

Pimp, are you coming to Flagstaff to settle this? Or are you just talking with no plan to back it up?
First off let me say i work 50 hours a week and already took my 2 weeks for my work year off this year. 1 for 2004 Worlds and 1 for The Memorial and I dont know if my other 2 weeks kick in by then or not. I think that they start on August 8th of this year so if thats the case and some other things that my sponsors are looking into work out then I will most definatley try my hardest to make it, but since i just totaled my truck and now have NO MONEY (since i bought a new blazer) if I dont have paid vacation to take and I cant get my room paid for then I wont be attending because of money reasons that I had no control over.
It all really depends on the money situation but im sure if I dont go to world we will settle it in the future on the National Tour in the OPEN division where it will REALLY mean something :D

I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I use pure facts and dont say anything like aN [*****]hole. I just state the and produce the facts and all these guys from TEXAS get up in arms. I never said that he sucked or that he wouldnt beat me. I just said that he wasnt as good as everyone thinks he is and hes getting way to much credit because all the tournament he plays in hes the highest rated player so he SHOULD WIN!!!!!!!! Thats it. You guys need to take a cold shower to cool off. This isnt a big deal. Im sure hes a good player but hes not GOD or anything. All the tournaments he WON he SHOULD HAVE WON!!!!!!! Now if he lost there would be something to talk about because that would me he doesnt have any game to back up his rating but he obviously can play to his rating because hes winning all the tournies where he is the highest rated player. Now maybe if he was rated 935 and WINNING all these tournament like he is now you could be like **** this kid is on FIRE and hes going to be great but hes been rated 954 since may of last year so he SHOULD be winning these events.
You guys need to chill out. Dont be mad because you cant refute the facts that i displayed. Just swallow your pride and admit that he hasnt played against and REAL competition.
This is my last post on the subject. Im now going back to helping people with what i can help them with and trying to get help for myself when i need it. Oh and talking smack to the people who can take it as fun and games and not have a hairy kaniption fit :D

Do we have another Texas player upset because they are no competition for Matt Hall??? That can be the only reason i see for you guys to get upset. I have not said one deregatory or offensive thing when i was posting the facts. In FACT if was you guys who started taking pot shots and makin offensice comments toward me.
So dont get all mad when I come back and defend myself. This is just rediculous. I love how people always try and blame this stuff on me when in all actuality they started it and im just defending myself.
Sorry you guys got offended but you guys started it. I was just laying out some facts about Halls game and you guys had to throw yourselves into the middle and now your upset with me because you were taking shots at me and backin up Matts game and now you dont have a leg to stand on.

I never thought we had a side bet except for distance. I thought that was just against Ryan Gwilliam. No problem though. If that was the assumption and I never cleared it up I will make good on my end of the deal. I will see the TD for that tournament a few days before, I will make sure we are signed up.
BTW if I would have made my birdie putts on Sunday I would have beaten you by 5 strokes. But that is why I am now practicing only my putting 2 days a week. I am 10x better now then I was in BG.

Steve that Auggie guy in MI has only played one event and it was in INT. So is he really a 970 player. Also I would be the highest rated AM in MI because slater and Romine have moved up and even if that didn't I will pass them in the next ratings update (no disrespect to them). Finally out of the top 25 players in the state I have played with basically all of them TX has plenty of comp it is just that we don't have the large feilds because we have many events on the same weekend. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

you guys cant be gettn that mad at Pimp, he makes some good points, i have a crappy rating so i cant talk to much trash (although i have beat pimp more than once in tournies) MI does have the toughest AM competition at any tourny.. look at the stats. Texas players are ok, but all they can do is drive far.. come to MI and play some of these long tight fairways and see how you compete.
If you think those fairways are tight then you might want to consider there are other courses whose fairways make those in MI look like the Texas courses.

First off i never said i would beat you I just said lets see where the ratings are at the end of the year. I love how you guys twist around what i say so you can try and make me sound like an ***** but all your really doing is making yourself look like and ***** when people go back and read that its not what i really said.
Lets just see how you do and see what are rating are by the end of the year. So ill just leave it at that and we can bring this back up at the end of the year when we have both most likely moved up into the pro ranks :D
No hard feeling just pointing out some facts and I cant wait till we play head to head and then have a REAL view of eachothers games because as of right now you have NO CLUE what kind of game i have and ive only heard what people who have seen you play have to say about your game.
Lets just leave it at that and let our scores and ratings talk for us at the end of this year :D

BTW if I would have made my birdie putts on Sunday I would have beaten you by 5 strokes. But that is why I am now practicing only my putting 2 days a week. I am 10x better now then I was in BG. The only putts I count as missed are the ones from 30 and in. You cant be counting 40-50ft putts as misses because the pros dont even count on making those :D The longest putt I EVER practice (on a regular basis) is 30 ft. I only practice my jump putt once in a GREAT while

No, unfortunately I wish I could say that these were longer then 30ft. I don't even attempt a putt outside that range. I was parked (<30ft) on all but #1, 13, and 15 at Lovers Lane Park and only hit three birdies. It was pathetic. And except for #4 at White (avatar pic), I was parked (<30ft) on every hole shorter then 400ft. It was a terrible day, just ask Brian Vazzer from Peoria IL, he was in my group both rounds that day he even made the comment at Lovers "man your all over that basket, sooner or later you will actually make one".

Well if I played tournaments where there was NO COMPTETION I would prolly have alot more wins  I think im finally going to be able to practice everyday and play tournaments just about every weekend now that its starting to warm up here. So we shall see what happens at the end of the year. You know if you win Am Worlds you get an Invite to the Players Cup
Cant wait to see you play down in Des Moines for the Greater Des Moines Challenge cuz Ill be down there and maybe we can get a preview of what Am worlds will look like if i can make it :D

Been playing right at a year and still no aces UNTIL last weekend. I was playingin the Gator Country Classic in Gainesville, FL. I stepped up to hole two from the pro pads, 343 ft dogleg left and threw a Champion Orc. It was beautiful. It flew straight for 320 or so at about 10-12 ft off the ground, skipped off the Florida sand and pine needles straight into the basket. The sad part of the story is that I didn't have $5 to put into the ace pool at the begining of the tourney. Would have split $440 with three other guys. Oh Well, it was still awesome.

yeah, that's what my round at Lovers was like. 9 birdie drives, all within 30, 3 hit belt, 3 hit basket, 3 went in. at least all the misses stayed as 3s. no monster rollaways in that wind. Lovers taught me to be happy that I'm hitting the basket when it's windy.
