12/8/2002, Chris Himing, the Australian Ziegenbock King hit the Live Oak, Texas Ace Pot for $400 on hole 15. Nice 275' hyzer with a CE Firebird. Luckily we have a backup ace pot close to $200 that is now up for grabs.
After Chris released the disc, I commented "Did you guys know this is the second most aced hole on the course?" A fraction later, he rings the chains! Now if only I could guess the lotto numbers /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

I thought I was playing at Universal City? Does that mean I get the Live Oak ace pot as well.
That was a fun round. A $400 ace certainly helps. Can't make it next Sunday but will be back more often from now. Next I want the course record.
I wish you guys would figure out which course it's being held at so I could get there on time. My arm is sore from all those mud drives at UC. Or is it Live Oak? /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif
I was so excited about Chris hitting the Ace, I put down the wrong course. Oh the benefits of having two great courses two miles apart!!
The Ace was officially hit at Universal City. It was the second payout for an ace since the course went into the ground. Keith "Big Bird" Baker walked away with close to $300 last year.
Sundays are always at UC, Randy. Great to CU and the other Austinites and foreigners down our way.
Next time we'll play in smaller groups. 3.5 hours to play the back 19 holes at Live Oak was a killer!
Chris, you didn't know this, but I bonked my head on a tree limb while putting during doubles, and saw stars (not JLO, but close.) I'm sure that affected my my my my.....
Yeah, Brian has a nice upwards body motion when he putts. Since he hit his head so hard, I didn't have the heart to tell him he's not allowed to move branches when putting.
I doinked a 20 foot putt on hole 13 at the H.B. monthly, it then rolled 25 feet as slowly as possible out of bounds. I didnt cuss,Iputted out and walked to the next hole pulled out my 160 Candy Firebird that already said ace on the top of it, not because I had ever got an ace with but becauae I knew it would happen. Right before I threw my shot I told the 2 guys I was playing with,"If it goes in I'll buy you both hot fudge sundays. Cha ching $100 ace pool for me and ice cream for my buddies.

Sadly for Charlotte, what Stan's been saying about his rating is finally playing out.

My memory says you stuck yourself in masters, then tried to buy your way into open when you found you had a good enough score to cash.
Ok, here's a boast:
After finishing the 9th hole of our 9 hole course, there is a bit of a walk back to #1. There is a field in between the holes, so I usually throw a couple of drives (since our course is a shorty, this is the only airtime my drivers get). I guess some people have seen me do this, because one day I caught up to a foursome and one of the guys turns to me and says, "Hey. You're 'distance guy' right?" Yup. That's me. Distance Guy. A disc that was washed away under flood/downpour conditions (or maybe the guy just plunked it off the back of a ferry I don't know) was retrieved in a fisherman's net some months later. The fisherman proceeded to call the number on the back of the disc to return it to it's rightful owner. if the shirt had been here and i did wear it it would have gone to you after round 1(oh but then you say you wouldn't have been in anyways cuz you like playing while hurt) and then at the end of the tournament (discounting you by your dropping out) would have gone to dave dollar with a 49....so give dave the shirt to wear at the memorial...by the way disc golf dude started a thread for the shirt updating the rules..so any more argiung should be there and not here....see you saturday.....keith

on this sad day i saw 3 aces at 2 different tucson courses.....
at the new course at groves park..i aced hole #5(165 feet)with my jk aviar putter and shot 15 down first time playing there with the baskets in the ground using a roc and putters
in league a couple hours later...dave shircore aced #4(155 feet) for 99 bucks(first league ace at the course open for only 8 days)
3 of us went to play the "b" course at santa cruz after leagiue and because of daylight left alternated b and a course...milton nelson aced #17 a(145 feet)
3 aces....total length shorter than one hole on most courses /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif
also in keeping with my luck in arizona...i now have an ace on each course in tucson and did not get a cent for either one
milton got 10 bucks(5 from each)keeping with the florida tradition i brought here...he's lucky i was there or he'd have got diddly squat(keeping with the arizona tradition of not paying for aces /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif)
maybe i'll get one for cash at league tomorrow or when the "b" league starts wednesday evening.....keith
You should play in Phoenix more. I hear every ace is worth about $200 (minus beer expenses). Unless of course you hit a spectacular ace at fountain with 10 people in your group like Milldog, in which case you'd be lucky to scrounge 3 bucks out of it.

Feb 02 2003, 02:49 AM
maybe if i lived there like you do,i would /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif
no matter where i play i have always done the 5-1 ace-metal(cage or higher)like i learned to do in florida(where it is done anywhere you play)...
i haven't seen it anywhere else i played(roughly 15-20 different states)
although once in cali i saw a couple of guys payout but the guy that aced didn't know anything about it

Yesterday, after a Windjammer weekly, Russ Neumann Jr. aced the 8th hole, for his 8th ace, on the 8th of February! He even told his dogs that he was going to get one before he left for the course. That's what he said anyway.

DES beat me this past weekend and I enjoyed it/msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif
locally, we do
1,3,5
dollar metal, three dollar chains, and a fin for an ace...
________
another course one town over-- they do something they call super fan.
the 1,3,5 metal mentioned above
plus...
3,2,1 for ctp... within one foot (ctp) you'd get 3$, two feet away 2$... etc...
plus skins AND nassau.
whew...
It might be different in LA, but a 'fin' is a $20 bill in the NY area.
On the first ace I ever saw, 2 guys in the group gave the thrower $5, but I just figured they had a side bet or something and didn't offer anything. Felt like a tool afterward tho. /msgboard/images/clipart/sad.gif

And a confused one./clipart/wink.gif
Matt,
Nice smooth gradual build up, almost effortless, until it gets to around 10,000, then a mad sprint. They say the best way is to keep the arm extended, and I do that at the start, but I'm getting faster spins with the "bent elbow technique". The powerball is about eighteen inches in front of my chest, and it's all wrist.
I've only had it a week, and I am addicted.
It's great going head to head with these guys from all over the world.
If you're getting 12's- Crank off another good one, snap a picture and send it to them. Let's flood that page with disc golfers!

Where'd you get your Powerballs?
Have they helped your golf game?
jeffash
Feb 28 2003, 05:48 PM
I got mine from Powerballs.com (http://www.powerballs.com/)
It's been snowing ever since I got it, so I don't know if it helps, or not. I think, as long as you maintain flexibility, that the powerball can do nothing but help your game.
It helps with grip strength, wrist torque and strength, forearm strength, even your upper arms feel it a bit. There are a variety of grips you can use to isolate different muscle groups, etc...
The thaw has arrived so I'm going outside to see if it does help.
jeffash
Feb 28 2003, 07:26 PM
After a very informal field test, I would have to say it will help my game. Sharp, crisp releases and throws. I seemed to have more distance, with no sacrifice for accuracy. I didn't putt, but I can't get any worse, so that may improve too./clipart/wink.gif
I got my first career ace yesterday on hole 9 at Gulley Park. I even had 4 witnesses while playing "51" and quarter skins.

Frame that puppy and hang it on the wall, Jerry. Get a notary public to verify the signatures of the witnesses on a sworn affidavit or on the back of your ace disc, then have the franklin mint issue you a letter of authenticity. You never know, you may become a famous disc golfer. It could only increase it's value...or you could just hang it on the wall so you don't lose it./msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif
I think i'll just keep using it. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif It was by far my worst throw of the day. I threw LHBH (the only hole i do) and it was about 15ft right of the basket going fast enough to make it probably 250ft. Of course the hole is only 100ft long and i was going to wind up in the bushes across a ditch until it hit a tree and redirected straight into the chains.

Actually, Kyle was awakened from a slumber by an itching sensation. He knew that this was different from the usual itching sensations he has. When he turned on the bathroom light, he disscovered the offending creature clinging to his back.
I was awakended by his whimpers.
"What's wrong?", I barked. I was still defensive due to my play the day before.
"Oh, I've got a [*****] tick on my back"
"I've got tweezers", I replied.

I got my tweezers out of my bag, and lo and behold, there it was- Amblyomma americanum

What else would you expect to find in San Saba?
Kyle doesn't know this but I snapped a photo (http://www.cvm.missouri.edu/cvm/courses/vm556/Arthropods/Arachnida/228.jpeg) of it.

Today was a good day. I got my grub on but didn't pig out. Sorry, that was my Ice Cube flashback. My day started off with an early trip to the carwash because I can't go to work in a dirty Corvette. I managed to do 96mph in a 45mph just for the fun of it. I got in to work by 7:00am with enough time to watch the cop pull my boss and give him a ticket. Sweet. After a hectic day at work including some mean thunderstorms ruining my wash job, I decided to drive an hour to a weekly disc golf event. As everyone was waiting for their hole assignments, I got my #99 lifetime ace. Everyone was happy that the acepot was now safe. My round was typical, putts falling in from everywhere. I drove hole 6, a 487ft hole to within 50ft and made the putt. It's downhill. I then aced hole #7 for my 100th lifetime ace. I followed that up by bashing the chains on #8. It wasn't over. On the way home, I drove 137mph in a 65 zone. Today was a good day.

rhett,
let me be the first message-board-junkie to congratulate you. I know after all these years this has to be a proud moment for you. Well earned, I'm sure. Take care.

Gee.....if you Cali-nuts did things right, for Ace-pots, it could have been MUCH more!!!

It was on May 13, 2002 that I posted the following message on this thread:
_______________________
Less than four weeks after arthroscopic ACL reconstruction surgery on my right knee, I nailed my first career ace (going into my 10th month of playing DG) on Hole #10 at France Park in Logansport, IN.
________________________
I was out playing good ole France Park Sunday May 11, 2003 and wouldn't you know it, I aced hole #10 again. Same exact pin placement - difference being this time that my JK-Aviar went completely through the side of basket without ever touching a chain!! It wasn't until the ride home that I realized it was 1 year ago that I aced this same hole. That makes ace #3.
I love this game!

Hey Cong,
$1 ace-pot x 125 players = $125
$125 divided by 3 aces = $41.67 each
$59 - $5 for ace on my card - $1 for other ace = $53
I think I came out over $11 ahead with our way! /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif
Rhett, you missed the earliest ace permutation:
first ace of tournament = $125
subsequent aces = $0

Non-Disc Golf Related Boast-
Saturday, during the Razorback Baseball Alumni Softball game at Baum Stadium (http://nw-ar.com/panoramas/baum.html), I hit a softball that landed on the warning track 330 feet away. It bounced against the fence.
I have hit many balls longer than that, but not under those circumstances. A crowd, announcer, TV, old friends, etc... I hadn't played in 4 years. My first at-bat. It was pretty awesome. I ended up two for three, two runs scored, one RBI, an intentional walk (yep/clipart/proud.gif), in a 7-7 tie.

Went from the 13th card ( 39th place ) to the 4th card ( 14th place ) in 1 round. Finished T-8th at the end of the tournament( Bell South Open ). I was sooo frustrated with the O.B. rules and pool assignments that I just wanted to quit. Sometimes you just have to accept everything that life throws at you, eventhough it $ucks!

"Sometimes you just have to accept everything that life throws at you"...
but then you can throw it back...and you'll probably blow by it knowing you Snoop.
Walt, I need to come see you sometime to make that trade...let me know a good time.
