Was flipping thru my way too huge stash of old/spare discs and found two that I don't know what they are or where I got them. One Barracuda 176 and a Scorpion 175. Both are large diameter, have been thrown but not beat and have no player markings. How can you tell the difference in a 1st Run CE Leopard and all the later runs? I was under the impression that it would have the same bottom as a 1st run CE TL Teebird. I threw a real early run Ce leopard and it was stable like a KC Pro eagle. All of the later runs have not been anywhere near that stable. Anybody have any clues and know for sure.

Looking for A Wham-o High Rigidity 71 Mold, with the Wham-o Splash stamp. It would have to be a legal weight of 175 or less, though I wish the 201 gram discs were still legal.

I've got a 70 mold that's in excellent condition (not sure of the weight, but it's no where near 200G). I don't remember the differences between the 70 and 71 mold they had the same shape, but I do remember that the 71 mold had a blue stamp and the 70 mold had a red stamp.

What is a Brand X and High-Tec?

Brand X is a pre-beveled edge golf disc. Frisbee like. High-Tec is a DGA Factored(turned or sanded down) Stingray. #5 is the most factored/least stable.

Is that what Dr. Rick Voakes was throwing on the 99 USDGC video? They said something about him throwing that kind of disc.

I heard them say that, but it was a long air shot, like a driver. Most people roll high-tecs. There are other factored discs, but I don't know if they are called high-tecs, like the 1-5 Stingrays.

I have a glow collection and the Photon ( Wasp ) from Discraft glows all night. It is not near as bright as a Midnight Flyer or a 1967 Canadian Pro Model, But it will out last them 10:1

I have two limited run (less than 300) GLOW Z MRV's. They glow for hours, but alas, Discraft hasn't made them a regular production run. But they rock the house.

I own and have seen many other Spiders that have an Innova logo stamp that say "Spider" inside the logo and underneath say "All Around Mid-Range Driver". Are these 1st runs? I have seen many just like this sold as 1st runs.
The reason I ask is that someone is saying that all Innova 1st run discs have stamps that say "1st Run" on them. I have seen Pumas, Wolfs and Valks maybe 1 or 2 others that I can't think of off hand that have "1st run" in the stamp. But are there some 1st run discs that receive Innova bar or just plain stock stamps? What's the difference between a proto and a 1st run? Is a proto subject to mold changes? It is given an old star stamp or generic Innova bar stamp?
This brings up something that I've been thinking about and working on for a few months. There's so much misinformation about discs out there, especially on eBay, and there is no authoritative source of information. I know a little, but I am no expert on the history of golf discs by any means but, as a graphic designer, I am very good at collecting, organizing and presenting information in a clear and concise manor. I want to step up and offer my time and expertise to put together a web site on disc history. But this project wouldn't be possible without your help.
Dave and others who have knowledge on the history of a one or more discs would you be willing to share some of your knowledge and contrubute to this website?

The people I've told about the idea say "Great Idea!" but no one has stepped up with any contributions. It's easy, just write up a little bio, and pick a disc and write up what you know about a disc. It doesn't have to be extremely long but as accurate as possible. This isn't a Senate hearing, just all of us trying to put together a resource on golf discs. Step up and share what you know.
If you have any ideas or sugestions for the site, drop me a line. I'd love to hear from you. The things I have thought to add are a FAQ, a list of collectors terms i.e. 3 ring Roc, flat top Valk etc. Remember the site is just in the beta stages. Let me know what you think.

I would be willing to help in whatever way I can, especially on the Gateway stuff.
I have heard a few reasons for not wanting to label each and every run differently.
One is because if a certain run was labled not that great it could leave them with a stack that nobody wanted. Another would be an inventory nightmare trying to keep the runs seperated.
Most of the demand for certain runs of discs are created by the fact that top players swear by them. Since most players throw with different angles, speed and spin the discs will fly different for each and every player anyway.

The other reason for run preference is because each run is generally consistent within the run. If you find a disc that you like, you would want to get backups of the same disc.

The discs are not always the same within the run.
Since the goal is usually 175 grams, there may be some adjusting to do of the weights. You can change the weight of the disc up to 10 grams by how you pack it out, how long you hold it and what temp you run it. The first part of each run the discs usually vary some until the machine and all if its hydraulics come up to temp and then they may run fine for awhile without touching it all. Since there is so much demand for max weight the machines almost always will get tweaked to get that weight.
Every mold is different by volume therefor requiring a different weighted material to reach the same 175 grams. It would be expensive to have 1 specific compound for each and every different disc you run. 40 models 4 different plastics and 150 -175 grams is over 1000 compounds!

I guess I need to be clear who I'm addressing since there's more than one David in the know in the group. I know what you're saying about the "certain run" issue but that's not necessarily the focus of the site. Has that really been an issue for Gateway?. With CE Valks it was. Some runs flew radically different than others so I guess it should be addressed under the Valkyrie section. For most disc though I think the focus would'nt be on how it flew but on when it was introduced, were there mold changes, different types of plastics, were certain stamps rare , and so on.
You would be a great source of info for Gateway and more. Obviously you are the authority on Gateway but I think you have valuable knowledge on lots of other discs.
If you could get the ball rolling it would be great. The first thing that I would need is a brief bio. Something like My name is David and I'm a discaholic, I've been playing disc since...I started Gateway in... and so forth. After that as you get time, one every couple of weeks or so I guess or whatever works for you, pick a disc and do a little write up on it's history.
This is a hugh project. If we all work together and chip in a little at a time we can produce a wonderful resource for the disc golf community.

Kurt - many of the older Innova models don't say "first run" the way the newer ones you cited do. Instead, they were stamped with a "star stamp" which from what I know is/was used exclusively on first runs. There are variations on this theme. I've pasted below a link to a current auction on ebay for a first run Ram that is a good example. There are usually a nice batch of discs, both new and vintage, on ebay at any given time.

Mine are just regular hotstamps. I think I saw a full color Bomb stamp on ebay. I've never really seen one.

Just saw Raven Star on ebay. That makes 8 to my knowledge with name spelled on star.

There is a San marino roc and an original roc with the star stamps, they are worth big $$$ and also if you are lucky you may find a beadless aviar with the star stamp, $$$, Areos, condor, hammers, champion- the champion is like an areo, XD, Original Eagle,stingray, cobra, python and a few more others.

i have 6 2nd run flattop ce firebirds. one is used and still flys like new, no major marks, white 172. another is slightly used yellow 174. four are brand new yellow 175. 100$ for all six discs. [email protected]

I emailed Jacob about the Aeros days ago as well, seems he is only interested in the 183 illegal Aero...

There is a link here at PDGA to a list of legal discs. I think the Aero goes up to 180. The CE aero goes up to 183. Probably less shrinkage with CE.

I've got a heavy (178 or 179) white big bird ontario roc...but I don't know if this is what you want. I have tons of big bird rocs, being the only Dx rocs that I throw. Some are Ranchos, some are ontario, and I have one Sanny. Only one white one though...

I am looking for the light weight CE Valk's, second run. I don't want the heavier ones. The weight range is 165-169 and the ones I have seen were candy red, somewhat see through. E-mail me if you have any for sale or trade. [email protected]

There's a store in my area that still has a couple of dozen CE discs, mostly Eagles and Teebirds. If there is someone interested, and can tell me how to tell what run they are, I can do an inventory the next time I am there.

Check and see if they have any CE Teebird TL's. Last run preferably.

How do I know if it is a TL? And how do I know what run it was? What is the min weight you are looking for?

I am looking for lightweight CE T's 166 and less. I am only looking for the T's, the more stable ones with the lip on the rim. I will pay cash or I have rare discs to trade with.

The last run TL's are in a see through plastic. Most have the new Innova stamp on them. If you look at the rim. They are flat across. The T's have a curve to them.
