Putt, putt, putt. The short game is always the most important anyway, so they say. Everyone I know, male and female alike use heavy weight putters. So, play some great putting games.
Or, play doubles, in a way. You drive and she makes the next shot. She can use your heavy (naturally going to be overstable for her) plastic thrown out to the right to angle back for a nice approach shot.
The main problem we have with heavy stuff is distance and of course it taking a quick left turn. So, if you play doubles where your drive is taken, it takes most the distance out of the equation...I assume you can throw far. :)

Go with midranges for now...ie Buzzz, Comet, Cobra, Roc, etc... Also, a Z-Express or a Champion Sidwinder will fill the 'sexy' opaque driver slot...so she's not throwing some super beat up looking DX~ish disc.

I have pretty much NO old plastic but ill try and find something DX that i have and just beat the crap out of it before we go to the field. Im going to teach her in a field first then ill teach her to putt in the basement because i have high ceilings and 2 chainstars. Ill let you guys know how she does tomorrow. Thanks for all the advice and remember I STILL NEED 150 CLASS DISCS because im trying ot create a future womens world champ :D

Im going to teach her in a field first then ill teach her to putt in the basement

If you want her to have fun and want to come back and try again... take her to a course!!!! Let her put one straight down a fairway or into a basket!!! Come on, throw in a field with you telling her what she's doing wrong after every shot  how does that hook her into coming back???

Give her one disc and a few pointers and play a fun 9 hole round to start. JMNSHO.

lauranovice
Apr 14 2005, 11:55 AM
I agree with Girlie. Putting in a basement does not sound like much fun. Good for practice, not much fun for beginning. If she's going to be the next women's champ, then it's got to be fun or she won't play long enough to make it to the Women's Championship. What approach discs do you use? Even a drive with a putter is a good tool to have, nice and almost straight. Are there any other women at your local course? Perhaps they could share discs for a first round.

cbdiscpimp
Apr 14 2005, 12:01 PM
Girlie im going to take your advice and play a quick 9 hole round with her and see what happens. I just figured out what discs she is going to get. She is going to get a Z Glide and a Z Breeze and a Challenger for the first day. We will see how those work.

Thanks again for the advice guys and i still want to trade and get her a full bag :D

Apr 14 2005, 12:21 PM
She is crazy competitive and we already talked about playing a roud first and she said she doesnt want to be on the course untill she knows how to throw. I know she will have fun because she loves sports and loves being outside. She came and walked with me while I played league on tuesday and said she had a blast just watching me play. Ill just ask her what she wants to do and thats what we will do. I think the glide and the breeze are going to work out great though. They are SUPER SUPER flippy for me so the might just work for her.

What do you guys suggest i teach her first. Stand and deliver and then work the X step in later or how should i do it???

Apr 14 2005, 02:42 PM
I have a 150 Champion Orc, but it's staying in my bad. IMHO, a 150 Champion Valk or Leopard would be better for a beginner, and both of those are much easier to find. There is more margin for error with a Champion/CE Leopard than any with any other 150-class candy disc I've found. That is, throws with slightly too much or too little hyzer or speed still turn out good.

lauranovice
Apr 14 2005, 02:47 PM
yes, stand and drive, then work the x-step into it.

Apr 15 2005, 12:30 PM
I took her to the field yesterday and we threw for about an hour. (she wanted to start in the field before we went to the course) I gave her 3 Z Glides a Beat JLS and a Beat D BUZZZ. By the end of the session she was throwing consistantly over 120 with the midranges and got the JLS out to as far as 170. I cant wait to see what she can do with the 150 Class Plastic :D

What do you want for the beginner set floppy???

Steve, I have two 160g purple gummy Orcs (unthrown) that I would consider trading. I like (170g and higher) Pro Starfires, Pro Orcs, Champ. Panthers, Champ Stingrays (heavy), and JK Aviars (soft, heavy). I also have a lot of Glides (Ace Race stamp) if you are interested.

My two cents: I would recommend playing catch and having her work on accuracy (distance will come with time). Start out at about 40 feet and slowly work your way further and further back. Have her envision you as the basket and she wants to put it where she won't be left with a long putt. Also have her work on her anhyzers and hyzers while you play catch. If there is wind, move around as you play so she can learn throwing into, against and across the wind. Let her know it takes time and practice like a musical instrument.

A good catch disc might be a JK Aviar-x (or soft Challenger).
If you have a lot of choices -- choose courses where she has more of a chance of not getting trounced by you (preferably shorter courses).

Please do not confuse discs weighing 151 to 159 grams as being 150 Class discs.

150 Class refers to discs that weigh 150 grams OR LESS. These are the only class of discs that are legal for tournament play and available for sale in Japan.

Certain discs are not currently manufactured in 150 class. For example: the Champion Orc is readily available in weights down to about 160 grams. During production some discs of lighter weights are made. These lighter weights are not advertised as being available as they are so limited. Some disc weights can even go to the low 150s, but discs at these weights are generally x-outs or they have other flaws. If discs do not meet INNOVA quality standards, they are rejected and recycled.

Material is currently being tested that may make it possible to produce Champion discs, like the Orc, in 150 class.
