February 17-18? That's what the LSDGA schedule says, but it also says no series info and it's not yet on the PDGA tour schedule. That's only six weeks away. Anyone know anything?

Rhett, that was unusual weather for the Vic Open, as I'm sure you've heard. Normally, the weather is pretty nice for this one, though I remember back in '98 an evil wind blew in. One of those where your putt might end up behind you.

We lost 4 holes due to that (8, 9, 10 and 16).

Some of the tent-campers had some waterfront property when they woke up that morning.

Wassup with MM1/MG1 being $54 and MPG being only $50?

Since when have Ams started paying more than corresponding Pro divisions? Maybe it already includes Ace Pot?

disctance00
Jan 11 2007, 01:23 PM
Typo maybe...I usually don't pay attention to other div. entry fees but that does seem odd...

vinnie
Jan 11 2007, 01:29 PM
ace pot is not included.
mm1 will have a good field...they always do....lowering the mpg fee may get some of the mm1 to cross over.
the lower fee is to try to get more than the 4 regulars mpgs :D
$75 for fpo?...I have a question for you is FPO a open player?
The days of treating OPEN PLAYERS diffenent cause of their gender are coming to an end.I can understand the lower skilled level...but you step up to the open filds....be prepared to be treated equal :D

And so all know I am the one that set the fees.......

harry

What kind of rationale is this?

mm1 will have a good field...they always do....lowering the mpg fee may get some of the mm1 to cross over.
the lower fee is to try to get more than the 4 regulars mpgs

What does MPG/MG1 entry fee discrepancies have to do with getting MM1 to "cross over?" I can understand getting MG1s to step up to MPG, but doesn't seem to have any correlation to MM1.

I can even understand making MPG and MG1 the same entry fee, but having the Am side entry fees higher than the corresponding Pro entry fee?

Since you're taking credit for this entry fee structure V-man, why is that some divisions include the PDGA sanctioning fee (hence $54 versus $50) and other don't? Is this being sanctioned as A-tier? Geez...weird entry fee structure...hard to believe that it came from the "Think Tank" of Round Rock! :D

harry
Jan 11 2007, 02:24 PM
OH I see a donkey comment coming :D

vinnie
Jan 11 2007, 03:53 PM
thanks harry...you took the words right out my month.
Some mm1 are of age to play mg1 or mpg.not many mg1's out there so they stay mmn...a lowere entry may make your field bigger.

ching_lizard
Jan 11 2007, 04:10 PM
I dunno about feeling bigger...but a lower and equitable entry fee structure would make me feel better V-man.

1. What level is this being sanctioned at? A-tier?
2. Why are some fees setup on a $4 basis and others have none?
3. Why is ANY Amateur division paying more than a corresponding Pro division?

It seems like this fee structure for MG1 is setup to punish players for being Ams! I don't think I can ever recall seeing an Am division paying a higher price than a Pro division period...much less corresponding divisions. I can understand doing that in the Women's divisions sometimes when you are trying to encourage more women to just come out.

Fix it Vinnie. It ain't right and you know it.

ching_lizard
Jan 11 2007, 05:50 PM
Vinnie -

MPO/FPO - $75 <-- a multiple of $5
MPM - $60 <-- a multiple of $5 or $10
MPG - $50 <-- a multiple of $5 or $10

MA1 - $59 <-- oddball number looks like $4 PDGA was added to a $55 entry fee.
MM1/MG1/FW1 - $54 <-- oddball number again...$4 added to a $50 entry fee.
MA2 on down are all evenly divisible by $5 or $10.

Usually the only time a TD adds oddball amounts like that is to cover sanctioning fees. So if this is a B-tier, with a $54 entry fee, that means that you're dumping $51 into the payout pool for those divisions? Just seems like an oddball amount which is why I'm questioning the entire entry fee scheme...it doesn't look right to me, especially when I notice that the Amateur Grand Master entry fees are $4 more than the Pro Grand Master entry fees.

I'm gonna have to do a little research tonight when I get home and see if I can scare up ANY other tournament where the Pro entry fees were lower than their corresponding Am entry fees.

Has anyone else every seen this before? (Aside from Women's divisions...but I'm not even sure about that!)

seewhere
Jan 11 2007, 05:57 PM
it also appears that while trying to make the MPG at $50 more appealing you will have AMS that will decline the $$$ to keep am Status and that does not seem too fair..

why isn't MM1 more than MPM we need those guys to step first before making the really old guys step up...._PLEASE make MM1 $64 so MPM at $60 looks like a good deal. thanks

ching_lizard
Jan 11 2007, 06:18 PM

vinnie
Jan 11 2007, 06:28 PM
because it is an odd number added to entry fee...doesn't mean the pdga fee is the reason why.
Maybe it has something to do with the rounding off of cost in payout plastic to the player, making it easier to do payout for winners of the odd numbered fees. But then I maybe looking to deep into running events.

ching_lizard

ROFLMAO! Obviously not deep enough V-man! It would really be something if you could calculate payout based only on the oddball entry fee numbers and before you even know how many are playing in the division.

I haven't made an exhaustive search, but of the 10 tournaments posting info currently under the PDGA Tournaments area, I have yet to find even one that has an Am entry fee higher than ANY Pro entry fee...even comparing Adv against MPG.

Based on your reasoning above...I can almost see the next Outlaws tournament flyer:

MPO - $76.29
MPM - $71.66
MPG - $36.99
MG1 - $102.50
FW1 - .02

So what the heck are you doing setting entry fees (and obviously doing a crappy job of it at that) for a tournament that you aren't even running V-man?

Rick knows that he messed that up...he says that you are telling him not to fix it. Why is that? Sounds like you could've had something to do with shaping our current Iraq policy too...did you do some consulting work with GW?

MPG $50

MA1 $59
MA2 $40
MA3 $35
MM1/MG1 $54 has changed to $44
FW1 $54
FW2 $35
FW3 $30

So what the heck are you doing setting entry fees (and obviously doing a crappy job of it at that) for a tournament that you aren't even running V-man?

I got more to do with this tournament than you will ever know. I have had length conversations with the past T.D., the club and the new T.D. insuring a tradition carries on. Unlike many players that just play golf, I want to make every Texas event the best it can be. The Vic open is a long running event and I want to make sure our new T.D. does the right thing. Now for that crappy comment. I have done more with disc golf and played more events than you will ever do....unless you would like to make this a personal issue...I would retract that statement....you're messing with an old wood tick that thinks simple assault is way to settle a disagreement. :)I like you....lets not let that change.
I set the entry fees and he posted them wrong.

he says that you are telling him not to fix it. Why is that?

Because a T.D. should stick to his decisions. Being flexible is ok....but being inconsistent can be a bad thing. It would have made no difference if the entry fee was not changed, except for the inconsistent.
AS far as IRAQ.......GW messed that up. If I had something to do with that, America would have been re-designing the flag to reflect 51 states

vinnie
Jan 12 2007, 01:29 PM
You should of seen what the enry fees were going to be....about $20 more for each division

disctance00

Maybe you should pay more for playing AM...you want to play for discs,DG bags, baskets, get players packs (all of which cost money) AND clog up the course with slow play, while I play for my buddies money most of the time and get nothing for signing up and wait on you on tee~boxes during rounds... :D:p J/K...this event will be a good once again no matter who is running it or what they charge. The course sells itself!! I hope to be there this year to play the mighty Vic~O!!

The short answer is: Vinnie

Geez! The squeaky wheel technique finally worked...

Of course no explanation about why $44 versus $40 or $45 in MG1 or why $59 for MA1 instead $55 or $60. Vinnie's answer doesn't make any sense...it just means that the poor guy taking cash at the registration desk is gonna have to bring a pile of $1 bills! LoL!!! Yeah that makes it a lot easier! :D

I and Riverside Disc Golf Club spoke at length with Rick about fees and what they should be. Before making any final decisions, I told Rick that Vinnie had been a regular Open player at the tournament . So, he was consulted on possible changes to the fees for the tourney. We are new to this thing & Rick is helping us out a lot this year by TDing the tournament and I appreciate Vinnie and anyone else who has given any advise for the betterment of this event.Hopefully this thread won't be an argument about fees because the club has been working diligently for months to make this event the best Victoria has ever had and we want the players to be satisfied with their experience from start to finish & I know you all will. :D

Quick question and I tried to find the answer but couldn't.

Doesn't the PDGA have guidelines for entry fees?

This looks more like an A-Tier then a B-Tier and if this is the way the Texas golf scene is to look in the future then you will see less and less AMs playing total, and that in turn will not cause growth in this sport, rather a decline.

Everybody wants the AM to move up, but if you look back you see that the regular PRO cannot make it on tour as a living. Take a look at the USTA and the PGA and answer me these two questions...What is the largest population in these sports, the AM or the PRO? And do these two sports FORCE the AM to move up?

By the way, I also have this question...

And so all know I am the one that set the fees

If you are not the TD, then why are you so involved?

suemac
Jan 12 2007, 03:13 PM
Seems like there's only one person making an issue, and we all know that there are MANY people that work hard, behind the scene, faceless driving forces that just want to see this event continue to be a Texas favorite.

Once again, Larry you just seem to want to stir the pot and make sure that we all know that you are turning fifty this year. Now, do you feel special? Have you brought the right kind of attention to this thread? Maybe you should have addressed this privately with the TD before airing out your concerns here. But, hey, then you wouldn't have been LLK, right?

Thank God it's Friday! See ya'll in a few weeks!

Cause I care....ALL Players should get involved.
If someone has to ask then....then all they care about is showing up.
I wonder what the the Larrys and the Pauls of the word are going to contribute to the next event they play..............besides there entry fee
What can San Antonio PROviding?
What is Houston PROviding?

ching_lizard
Jan 12 2007, 04:32 PM
Yeah...I guess you got me there V-man...I never do anything for this sport...

It should be known that HFDS is stepping up to the plate again this year and laying down sponsorship cash to this event...the same as we have done for the past 4-5 years running...probably longer. I've always pushed for sponsorship of this tournament but so many Houston players go to this one, that it isn't even a push any more...we just ask for a show of hands of anyone that DOESN'T want to sponsor it...and of course there are never any hands or objections for this event. :D

I've played in the Vic Open twice in the past...the last one was the Great Flood of 2005 I think!

I don't care very much about what the entry fee gets set at, what I object strongly too is the inequity of pricing the Am division higher than the corresponding Pro division. Now that it has been fixed my major complaint is gone. However the entry fee structure still looks haphazard due to the $4 increments placed somewhat randomly.

Thanks go out to Rick for fixing an honest mistake rather than trying to justify it with some convoluted logic just to save face!!!

See ya in Victoria.

ok just to clear a few things up -- i added the MM1 & MG1 divisions to the price sheet after i spoke with vinnie about everything & early early in the morning -- vinnie didnt tell me not to change the prices -- vinnie said a TD needs to be careful about going back and forth on things -- as far as prices go -- i wanted them to be MPO $90, MA1 $60, MA2 $50, and MA3 $40 with $10 off for all women divisions & trophy only divisions for the Open Fields -- which by the rhett yes there are trophy only for open this year -- the price is 1/2 the regular open entry fee -- why are this events prices higher then the guidelines set by the PDGA -- well for one they are guidelines -- with the flexibility of being more or less -- things such as Camping (only being available this one time a year) allow us to add a higher value to this tournaments entry fees (then i go get a hotel to give us a great deal as well) there is a lot of planning that goes into this & The Guys down in Victoria and myself are trying to do lots of things to make this a great event for everyone involved & much thanks to vinnie for helping me out when I have asked.

Just got off the phone with Rick and Rhett, I think we got the right hotel. Bannister is just dazed and confused.

I am calling to confirm with hotel. I will be back to confirm the hotel in a few.

He IS working on a deal for all of his other events with LQ.

Here we go:

LaQuinta: 361-572-3585
Victoria Open Rate: $49

Confirmed and I'm reserved...go get 'em folks. Beware...they aren't very good about answering the telephone there...you might have to try back a couple of times before you actually get their reservations folks on the line.

Okay, Rick asked me to call and confirm the hotel, and I just talked to The Quality Inn and they are the host hotel.

They have the rate, GOOD BREAKFAST and such from what Rick said. They have 50 rooms blocked off for us.

LoL...Good deal then if we've got BOTH hotels in Victoria givin up special rates for us!

I'm gonna have to chew on Bannister tonight...I called him up and specifically asked him if it was Quality Inn or LaQuinta and he was all over the LaQuinta gig as he's trying to nab them for sponsorship for all of the LSS events. He even asked me to post that info out here today for him too!

I think SeeWhere is right...something about those lunch breaks. :D

Yeah, when I made my reservation at the Quality Inn they said there was a block reserved and gave me one of those.

Ching is the only one saying LQ. Is the deal really set up with both hotels??? LQ was last year and the tourney rate was like $69. I pricelined it for $44 before the hotel deal was announced and lucked out that my hotel happened to be the tourney hotel. :)

I just got off the phone with LaQuinta here in Victoria, also. I spoke with the girl there and she said they would honor a $49 a night rate for Victoria Open entrants, if you'd rather stay there. Take your pick. LQ is across from the mall on the north side of town. http://www.google.com/maps?hl=en&output=html&f=l&q=la+quinta&near=Victoria%2C+TX&btnG=Search+Businesses

Not that Victoria is a sprawling metroplex, but it is long and skinny and it is a bit of a drive from the North side of town as I recall.

Figure Quality Inn answers their phone and was the original hotel. Liz, Rick said he deserves thirty lashes with a wet noodle for giving you the wrong information, are you going to volunteer? LOL

His bad and he apologizes.

LQ ripped everyone off last year with the $69, if you got it for 44. So everyone should go with the Tournement hotel "Quality Inn". La Quinta is spanish for ben dover :p
