wonder what the winning score for hobson 1st round dubs was..

i'm guessin 45

The winning score was a 43 with a 3 way tie for second at 46. Really light turnout only 6-8 teams, but it was fun though.

The Mace Man just left Flotown (Florence, AL) after a Mace Man Doubles Tour this evening. I say evening because we finished in the dark! He left for BG about 8:45 p.m. and it should take him about 3.5 hours to arrive. Your's truly and his partner Steve-O shot -11, only to lose to a -12! We had 11 teams and it was fun. A good warm up since I intend to practice tomorrow! ;) Thanks Mace for bringing the tour to Florence! :D Hope everyone has a safe trip.

BTW, I'm still looking for a ride in the H (Adv. Master) Pool Saturday after the meeting! :p rWc3523

Lets hear some stories of the first day. The throw that got away? How was the wind? :)

JHBlader86
Mar 31 2007, 11:03 PM
I started off on the back nine on Ephram White, and after those holes I was at a very pleasant +1 after 3 birdies. Then the wind just came out of nowhere, and it screwed everybody up. I mean everybody, and it kept getting worse. Only one person shot par which was amazing! Hobson was alot better. My drives were really good, but the wind wouldnt allow me to go for the birdies so I had to lay up and settle for alot of pars. Not that I'm complaining, but alot of birdie holes just werent able to be reached.

During the final 9 there was a bunch of people throwing the ultra light Raging Inferno Dt's. They were getting crushed too. Amazing how they fly so straight and overstable for being 136 grams.

There will be no "good" ratings until they are official in the June update. It's not worth the effort to do all of the pool stuff necessary for events like this to produce unofficial ratings. So it's just done for the official ones just like last year.

First off thanks to all the course officials and helpers I had and especially Terry Miller who helped by filling in for a sick official on Sunday. Next thanks to all the sponsors who help make this event great. Thanks to all the course sponsors that were out there running doubles and selling merchandise. Thanks to are parks departments which help get the courses looking great. Last but not least thanks to all the players that came and your patients with us for this extreamly huge event.

On that last note I will appoligize for the problems we had at a couple of courses getting the parks open, and that caused some of the long delays in getting all the scores sorted. Sorry to the award winners as we really didn't get to have a awards ceremony with everyone wanting to get headed home.

Congrats to all the winners and we hope to see you all next year. As always any questions comments, complaints can be sent to me as I listen to all and somtimes even make changes based on them. Once again thanks for coming. [email protected] if you want to send me any comments at all.

I will gladly pay postage rounded up to get it returned.

I have a quesstions about the ratings. In 2004 i shot a 60 at White for a round rating of 912. this year is shot a 61 for a 878 rating my buddy shot a 60 for a 889. Why is there a disparity in the ratings or are these not official yet and may change?????????

These ratings are very unofficial and have nothing to do with what a 60 was rated in 2004 or what a 60 was rated Sunday morning.

Apr 04 2007, 09:40 AM
Yeah, right now the unofficial ratings have everyone is one pool playing the same 4 courses at the same time. If you look at it closely, a 54 is rated the same for an Advanced player, an Advanced Grandmaster, an Intermediate player, or a Junior. Basically, it's a lot of work to try and do all the pool splits just for the unoffical ratings.

I think it takes Chuck and Gentry a solid week just to figure out pools and do ratings for the real update. Not only are there different pools on different courses, but you also have to worry about people who switched pools Saturday night, etc. It's a real hassle.

hmm yikes.
I played doubles in his group at Franklin and did not notice it. I also caddied in his group at Keriakes and did not notice it.
Usually I notice that and confront the player, or at least pick up his butt myself. I could have missed it tho. That would have been weak of him if he did litter on those beautiful BG courses.

I have played with Steve many times, and never seen him litter his cig butts. When I was caddying for him during the final 9, I had a cig and asked him where I should put it, and he had a spot in his bag with a bunch of cig butts in it. I'm sure if he did litter a butt or two it was not on purpose, sometimes people just forget, or they set it down meaning to pick it back up and finish it, but can't find it or forget it. I know it's happened to me plenty of times.

Nice, I woke and was confused because I was sleeping on a tangerine and 2 sugar packets. I understood later.

Dustin- I didn't see him litter throughout 2 rounds, but was not watching him closely. Judging just by playing with him those 2 rounds, I would say he is not the type that would make littering a habit. That is all I can say and I am going to stay out of this one now.

Apr 04 2007, 05:12 PM
I would hope that it was not done on purpose but i saw what i saw and that was cigarette dropped to the ground stepped on and then player walking away. To me that looks like littering but maybe others would look at that differently. ON another note, he played well and deserved the win, Congrats Steve.
If i do notice this again in a tournament i will step up and make the call. Like i have seen posted on this board before rules do not call themselves.

I figured I would send you this personnaly, Shawn your course official informed me that you guys were going to be getting back late and didn't think we would have time for a final 9. Since I wasn't there to be able to determine and was going on his opinion I told him that if that is what he was figuring that to make sure and inform you guys before the last round that you wouldn't have a final 9. He never told me of any complaints but said everyone seem to understand. I am sorry if you were looking forward to one or if I got the wrong information. My plan was to have a final 9 and am sorry that didn't happen. I will try and plan to make sure we can next year.

A funny story from the weekend:

A couple of us were in the I-65 Liquor store near the host hotel buying beer. We put several assorted six-packs of Bell's and Sam Smith on the counter and the guy behind it just kind of looks at us for a second. He then says (in the appropriate Kentucky twang, )

Him: "Y'all 're disc golfers, ain't ye?"

Us: "Um...yeah. How'd you know?"

Him: "Aw heck, it's easy. I can tell from the beer. Y'all drink the good stuff...I ain't sold a case of Bud Light or PBR all week!"

Hey who's the guy in the white t-shirt?

He was practicing before the final 9 at white. We were playing #5, he was playing #6. He threw an upshot from the left side of the fairway, then went over to his other drive on the right side of the fairway. He deuced from that shot with a 250 footer or so. It was funny, because both him and his caddy looked dissapointed. I told him he should've saved it. He agreed.

Got a question about Flymart.
Is it a trademarked name? Or is it just the generic name you give for all the vendors attending the tournament.
Also do the vendors pay you a fee to set up shop and if so whats the percentage of sales/fee that they pay the Club/TD?

Thanks for any info

Not true. All the tournament director had to do was upload the pool information into the PDGA Online Tournament Scoring System. You just upload pool as another column, just like PDGA#. You can then assign which pools played which courses during which round, and the unofficial ratings calculator will calculate ratings accordingly. The tournament director or whoever uploaded the results either didn't know how to do this or chose not to.

And please don't use ALL CAPTIAL LETTERS next time! :D

This is what we deal with when we do Pro Worlds. The software will keep track of the pools before and after the shuffle.

Not trying to take anything away from overworked & underpaid volunteers who do an amazing job at running a weekend event with 743 competitors, but the unofficial ratings with pools and a shuffle can be done properly if desired.

I did. 505 was the measured D when it hit the tree, and we had about a 7-10 mph headwind. The mark isn't that big for me, but considering the field we were throwing in, it was plenty enough to win. It was more like an golf-distance contest because of the trees and OB. No real chance to throw up a big bomb....

Oh well. I still took home a basket. Thanks to poorboydiscs.com from Dayton OH for sponsoring the D contest and hooking everyone up with some sweet giveaways (and my basket). And a HUUUUGGGEE thanks to Fred Salaz and The Equalizer - http://www.discntucky.com/index.html - for my new sponsorship and helping me win the D contest. The Equalizer really works - I picked up a frisbee for the first time in summer of 2005, and now I have legit 550+ distance.

Now, if I can learn how to putt!

The decision to drop the final nine for the women was not made until Sunday Morning. The cards for the D - pool never came in quicker than 4 hours. With that in mind there was no way the women could have got from Franklin to White before 5:30.

Juliana and I decided to call the final 9 off. I personally told the top two cards of the Adv women and told every other woman I saw Sunday morning at Kereiakes. I apologize if anyone was not informed of this. As Larry said he is going to do what is necessary to make sure the women get to play the final 9 next year.

As it turned out Juliana and did not get back to White park until after the Mens final was over. So there would not have been time for a womens final.

Does anyone else think the round ratings are still all jacked up?
55 @ whites is a 926?

That is strange

I'm quoting myself from upthread on 4/4:

Yeah, right now the unofficial ratings have everyone is one pool playing the same 4 courses at the same time. If you look at it closely, a 54 is rated the same for an Advanced player, an Advanced Grandmaster, an Intermediate player, or a Junior.

So they won't be right because they weren't done by pools.

Once Gentry gets and processes the TD report, at least the unofficial ratings will go away until the official ratings are processed. Don't know if Dave even has the report yet.
