Anyone going to the tournament interested in swapping for a used Innova Discatcher Sport? I am looking to get a DGA MachLite (can be used if in good shape).
*I know there is a trading forum, but I posted here in hopes of working out a face to face swap (ie. no shipping cost).

Larry, at the risk of being whiny, could you suggest to Maceman to move the Keriakes doubles back an hour? It would allow time for players to get from Franklin to Keriakes, and I would bet there are other players that want to play both. If not, I would be happy playing both doubles rounds at Franklin, as it sounds it would be near impossible to play at both courses as it stands now.
Sorry to be a pain.

We would be more than happy to move back our first round tee time to 11am to accomodate the players. I think we would've had plenty of time, but no problems here. Also, this just in - we will be receiving a fresh load of huk lab gear for this event, so be sure to swing by the course or check us out at the FlyMart on Saturday night.

PDGA links gives this as the directions:
I-65; exit, to Hwy 31W north, 7.6 miles to a left on Hwy 2326 (Ottor Gap Rd), 3.6 miles to a right at stop sign on Hwy 734, 0.2 miles to park on left.
* Which exit number on I-65?
* Can't find Hwy 734 on mapquest, yahoo, etc, BUT I can find Hwy 743. Is that sort of the same thing?

A question about the Am1 courses (Hob, Ker, Frank, White)...does play flow well at these courses during events or are there backups and slow holes? I hate carrying a stool but I will if it's a must. Are there benches at these courses?

Mar 22 2007, 10:44 AM
At the Nat's Halloween tournament, there was a pretty big backup on one of the holes at hobsen. I think it was hole #3, but it is the long one. We were also playing 4somes, and it looks like we might have 5 at the Ams.
I would suggest bringing a stool for at least that course.
I don't remember much backup at Ker.

Hobson will have backups. Stool needed
White park has benches

Mar 22 2007, 12:10 PM
White Park is the only course that a stool is not needed. However if there is a 5some, I believe one person may be standing. White flows very well so the wait will not be long. The only hole that is notorious for backups is #14, a 400' dogleg right. The turn is more than 90 degrees right, and canopy over the tee so you have to place your shot off the tee. There will be at least a 3 group back up there.
As far as the rest of the courses; if you like to have a seat while waiting for your turn at tee then, bring a stool (you'll be waiting).

Is this going to have to have to be capped at 720? I don't see any other way unless you put more than 5 people on each card... 5x18x8=720
That is only correct if all divisions are evenly filled. This tournament will split the divisions to play 4 courses each. So it would be 5x18x4=360 and 5x18x4=360.
Making the pairing looking something like this:
advanced+women=or< 360
masters&up+intermediate=or<360
or whatever combonation fits.

Sorry, 15-20 mins. south of natcher exit of I65 (exit #).
Or you can drive around 880 south from Hobson turn right on 31W, travel about 20-30 mins. south to a left on 1008 for 2-4 mins. where the course will be on the left. Those directions are a longer travel time, but might be less traffic and you'll be driving two lanes not six.

I shot a 56 which I am told is a hot round however I did have a lucky ace on the downhill #14 with the river directly behind the basket. With the exception of a few long holes theyre all par-able with a few ace runs. It's really the elevation on some holes that make it difficult and the wind doesnt help either.

Did you play the longs or the short tees, because I think they are playing the shorts in the tourney and if they are it is not as long as White. Even from the shorts I believe that it is probably a little longer than Lovers but not much. But the longs are probably comparable to Whites with a lot more obstacles and terain as well.

I played all the longs. On some holes you had to look back another 100 feet because I would walk towards the am pad first because it was the only one I saw. The holes are very spaced out in some areas, but I found the course very fun to play with a variety of shots needed even for such a wide open course. I really hope they dont play from the short tees. No advanced division and especially this one should ever throw from shorts if long pads are available. I think the longest walk from one hole to another was 10 to 11, it must have been close to 800 feet from 10s basket to 11s pad.

The course maps will be in the program for all the courses and yes you will play the short tees at Franklin.
Kereiakes is looking good after the parks did some work with building up some around tees and putting mulch around baskets.
Preston Miller now has nice brand new concrete pads just installed with nice course signs as well. This course was a little rough last year and we didn't want to use it but had to. Now it is in pretty good shape and for those that played it last year and will again this year. I think you will notice a nice difference.
Have some good news just finalized - We were going to give those above the 1st 500 at least a disc now they will get at least 2.

last year there was a 2 foot copper head (thats what it looked like) 1 foot away from my disc at hobson. My caddy tried to croc hunt it. Good times!

Saturday there was a snake on #9 tee. Larry stopped his run up smoother than I have ever seen anyone do it. I also saw a baby on #15. That was just enough to turn a duece into a bogey. But thats ok cause I just hit the ace on #13. :D

on the topic of snakes in KY, I'm over in Corbin showing some relatives Disc Golf outside there home when I let one rip with my buzzz. They all look on in amazement as to how far it goes and I explain to them that it was only a midrange. As I set out to retrieve it from the weeds my Uncle says to me "watch out for the snakes" I'm like snakes!! what snakes!! I didn't see one, but if I had I would of lost my buzzz that day, in more ways than one.

Where can we get a map of where all of the courses are?

Mar 26 2007, 01:05 PM
I made a few calls today, and got some information on addresses, for those of us who will be mapquesting to and from courses.
Keriakes Park:
1220 Fairview Avenue, BG, KY
Hobson Grove:
1200 West Main St.
Lovers Lane:
385 Lovers Lane.
White Park:
6487 Louisville Rd.
42101
I tried looking up Franklin, and was told there is no physical address, but that it is off of North Street (North Street @ community park).
Can any of the locals confirm this info?

At the top of the PDGA website page click on Course Directory. Then type in Bowling Green and select Kentucky in the search. The first 8 results are the courses we'll be playing on and directions on how to get to them, usually from I65. here's the link to franklin Franklinhttp://www.pdga.com/course/courses_by_city.php?id=1986 (http://www.pdga.com/course/courses_by_city.php?id=1986)
We'll get a course directory Friday night, but I might try to get last years posted online somewhere. Any suggestions on a site to upload it to? I was thinking maybe ebay as a fake auction, but that would cost me.

Mace Man Will be the only vendor at the Bowling Green Am weekend with X-out Champion and Star Roc's from the USDGC 2006!! The speculation is that the entire 2007 run of 3000 Champion/Star Roc's will sell out in pre-sales to partners before the release date witch happens to be next Monday, April 1. This still remains to be seen, but you will see some great roc's from the previous run that are ready to throw at $20 each in Bowling Green this weekend.

Kereiakes, White, Hobson, Franklin - Adv Men, Adv Women, Am Women
So, by my count that is 378 people on 4 courses (342 ADV men, 17 ADV women, 19 INT women). Are we just going to be playing in large groups... or is there some trick perhaps? Just curiousity, the answer won't change my plans, so the point is actually moot.

Larry, at No Foolin' last weekend, someone told me that he had heard that "pull-behind" golf carts are not allowed at two of the courses. Can you verify this?
robertsummers
Mar 26 2007, 07:20 PM
I don't know about them not being allowed, but they would be a lot more trouble than they are worth on Chalybeate. You have to climb up fairly steep steps to get to one of the holes, and some rough terrain. And it is a short course, so even if they are allowed on Chalybeate I still wouldn't bring one if it were me for that course anyways.

Adv Men / Adv Women / Int Women = 378
4 courses x 90 = 360
18 people over means 4 "ghost" groups or 1 per course.
Rest of the Pack = 367
7 people over means 2 "ghost" groups.
"Ghost" group means to insert an extra group (4some or 5 some) somewhere on the course during play. What that means is there would be two groups waiting on one hole to start, first group tees off and proceeds to play the hole. As soon as they are done, the "ghost" group tees off and plays the hole right behind them. What this translates into is some mighty long rounds of golf.
Be prepared to wait!!
But... Who cares!! This is going to be the biggest single event tournament ever!! You will be part of history!!
Hats off to Larry and his crew!!
Later,

I don't know if anyone has said they weren't doing this, but there is always the possibility of 3 flights per day on any course. I know we did this at Bowling Green in 2005 when only 4 courses were used. It was split up so you either played at 8am, 1130am or 8am 3pm or 1130am 3pm or something like that. I wouldn't mind doing that, then you wouldn't have to play with 5-somes. Although I know some people were ticked off that had to play at 8am at hobson grove, in the cold, rain and heavy wind, while the weather cleared up by 1130am for the group at keriakes. :)
I played in the 8 AM round at hobson and it was horrible but later at 11:30 my friend got great weather. Hope its warmer this time around cause that was BS.
Yeah, I thinking that same thing Dustin, but probably wont happen for the very reason the above poster said. Way too many complaints. I know my entire card had animosity for the 11:30 groups after we played Keriekas at 8:00.
topdog
Mar 27 2007, 12:53 AM
Is it really that big of a deal. We play 5-somes all the time in Norcal. Just deal with it and enjoy the biggest event ever.

Mar 27 2007, 12:54 AM
As mentioned there are no rules against carts being used, just a couple of holes would be fun to move up and down.
As for pooling questions - it will be tomorrow as soon as I can.
We will be playing 1 ghost group on pools that we need to in order to fit the players. Anyone that has been here before will tell you that almost all the courses play in 2 1/2 hours with 5 somes' so adding a ghost pool might push it to closer to 3 hours but that is better than trying to run 3 pools through a course and it allows us to have time in case of weather.
I have some good news for those that were above the 1st 500, Discraft and Gateway have offered to give me coupons for you to come by and get a free disc from them so you will get one disc of our choice and then the 2 mentioned. Many thanks to them and all our sponsors.
Players meeting has changed to 7:00 on Sat. to help us get through everything and get players out playing. Please remember you need to check-in or we won't put a scorecard out for you.

It is the same place, we plan on doing it outside unless it is rainning then it will be standing room. Last year they had table out and there is just no room that way. We will only be inside if it is rainning. Course directory - chalybeate springs sports complex (brownsville) - if coming from the north get off the smiths grove exit (dont know #) and use 101 to get to the course will save you 30min. time to go.

Chalybeate is the course that is in Edmonson. The directions on the course directory are fine but if you are coming from the interstate. You can get off on exit 38 in Smiths Grove turn right off of the exit and stay and follow the HWY 101 signs, turn left at the stop sign and take the first right toward Brownsville once again on Hwy 101. Then look for a sign that says 743 and I believe a sign pointing toward South Edmonson Elementary and turn left. That road will lead you right to Chalybeate Springs Sports Complex on your right. Hope that helps.

Also for those playing Preston Miller there has obviously been a lot of work done. I didn't play it until today so I can't compare it with past experiences but I have heard stories and that is why I didn't play it until today. It has brand new tee pads, the missing basket replaced, and the fairway I believe has been cleaned and cleared quite a bit. It is actually now a nice looking course.

bigThanks to Larry for organizing an unprecedented event
I would say White is better in the morning just because it always seems to me that the wind is worse in the afternoon. (Just my opinion though.)
A lot of Franklin is pretty wide open so a shot blown around by the wind can be recoverable (as long as it didn't blow you O.B. and there are only a few holes where that is a real danger).
Hobson is the most shielded from the wind with only a few holes being open enough to be affected. You just have to watch out for the 100+ trees on every hole.
Keriakis can be tricky with the wind. On several holes you tee shielded from the wind by trees only to drive and discover there's a fierce cross/head wind in the fairway.

Quite a busy afternoon, the courses are looking good as someone already mentioned - Preston Miller looks real good. They were mowing Lovers when I went by, Griffin is mowed and we have one tee pad they are fixing.
Now have another vendor for the flymart - I think that makes about 8 so you should have plenty of stuff to bye. As always will let you know info as I get it.
For those with pooling questions: I am sure we can get you where you need for the first day, just remember you may have the same problem the next day which I can't control so you might think about that before you go crazy trying to get someone to change with you. I am sorry I missed some of the pool request. I just have a lot going on and wanted to get stuff posted so players would know where they would be and could try and plan ahead. We will try and move players on Friday night at check-in as well if requested. It probably won't do you any good to send me anything Friday as I won't be home long and will have the cards printed by then. Anyway crunch time is coming and I still have some details and stuff to do. Please don't be afraid to ask what you need and we will try and do what we can. It is almost time to have fun.

What kind of disc is a Diablo???
scooop08
Mar 28 2007, 11:12 AM
The disc for the player package in bowling green will be called the Diablo-DT!
We are trying to get a slightly under-stable long range driver similar to a sidewinder. The 1st prototypes are getting ready to be test flown today or tomorrow.
It will be a shallower rimmed Disc like the RIDT with a slightly different dimple pattern. The pattern will have Dimples closer together so there will be more of them.
More dimples means less flat areas on the wing, which = more lift, less resistance and a faster, longer flight.
Dave posted that message about the disc.

Good question. I am also interested in knowing which courses people would recommend playing on Friday without having to join the doubles. This goes for both divisions.

Mar 28 2007, 01:24 PM
Well, this is the first year Advanced Masters were moved to the "other" courses and because of that, I'd never played them, except Griffin in the 1990s. But it's been changed. All I know about Miller and Edmondson are what my wife and son told me, which is why I intend to play them. If need be, I'll get on Edmondson BEFORE doubles begins and get ahead of the crowd. I don't think there's anything at Miller or Griffin. Now there ARE doubles at Keriakes, Hobson and Franklin, which might affect you advanced guys (and some ladies) you can bet with 750 golfers there will be a lot of folks on the courses Friday! But they should be open for practice! rWc3523

Q: Are all players required to wear collared shirts since this is an A-Tier?
A: Collard shirts are not required, just tastful attire is.
-------------------------------------------------------------
3.4. Dress Code
A. All competitors and staff are required to wear a shirt.
B. All competitors and staff are required to wear shoes or
other foot coverings. Players will not be allowed to play in
bare feet. Sandals or slides are allowed.
C. The following dress code for all competitors will be
enforced at all PDGA National Tour and Major Events. The
PDGA also recommends that this dress code be enforced
at Super Tour and lower tier events, but this decision lies
solely with the Tournament Director:
(1) All players in PDGA sanctioned competition and
tournament staff are expected to dress appropriately
and to maintain a clean and well-groomed appearance
at all event sites and associated functions.
(2) All players must wear a shirt covering their upper
chest area. A well-tailored shirt with a fold-down,
mock turtle, v-neck, crew neck, Henley, or zippered
collar, and with sleeves covering the part of the arm
from the shoulder to the elbow (commonly known as
the upper arm), shall be considered acceptable.

This post is in honor of all my fellow LURKERS.
I have nothing to say:
I don't need to swap pools.
I don't need a ride.
I have a place to stay.
I know where and when the meetings are.
I don't need to communicate with the TD thru this board.
And I don't plan on kicking anyone's butt.
I feel better now.
