Larry, I don't think he was knocking your payout. Just letting people know that players aren't "bagging" just to get mounds and mounds of discs, which was suggested earlier in the thread.

Oh, and as for the player's packs. I mean, it's not like these guys can put together 600+ players packs in case they get the numbers. As long as there's no cutoff, the best they can do is offer to only the first X # of players. If I was to get in after 500, I'd be happy just to be able to play at that point, and I couldn't care less about the pack. Most tournaments would just turn you away if you were the 550th player.

the reason people bag in this event is because of the sweeeet payout.

I played INT last year... finished tied for 12th I think... top 10% of the field. I got two discs, 1 champ, 1 KC Pro. How is that a sweet payout? My friend finished around 4th or 5th and got about 4 or 5 discs. Again...

The payout at BG is in the player's pack. I felt stiffed last year because I was not able to sign up until after the packs were gone. Before people say I should have signed up sooner, I didn't know I was going to have the weekend off until the weekend before.

This year I am signed up, and I hope the player's pack is just as nice as last year...

But back to my point... I don't think that the payout is what I would call sweet.

I played a C-Tier in Cookeville where I think 3 (maybe 4) baskets were given away across divisions... I placed tied for middle of the field in ADV and took home two Star discs... that's a sweet payout for a tournament.

well said!!!!

I placed third two years ago and got three discs including a trophy disc. It wasnt about the plastic. its about the level of play. there is a big difference in a few local top fives and a notional top five!!!!

I am sorry you felt like you didn't get much but for $30 those that got the players pack which was most you got over that in value. For those that didn't you still got a disc for the $30. When you figure all those that got the sweet players package for the $30 and those that got just one disc, there really just isn't much money left over to try and payout the numbers needed. Actually I have to lower the figures for the INT just so I can have money to payout as without it I wouldn't pay any. So to say it is not sweet, to me is crazy. Anyway just thought I would throw that out there.

Larry, I understand that MOST of the players got a great package. I was dissappointed that I didn't, but I understand completely that giving out such great packages means that prizes have to be reduced.

In fact, I like most of the AM rewards being in the form of players packs.

The only thing I don't like (and this is at all events) is that players beyond the set number of player packs don't get the same value for the same entry fee. I was upset that after finishing in the top 10% that I got less than anyone who got the players pack. All because I was unable to sign up in time.

It would be nice if additional packs could be made up after the tournament and shipped to the players at a cost for shipping and time spent putting the packs together. I doubt this will ever happen at any event, but it would be nice if all players received the same benefits.

As in with MANY different types of events (fund raisers, concerts, etc) they want you to pre-register or buy your ticket ahead of time so the promoter can guage how many people are coming to an event. They offer benefits to those that do pre-register as an tool to do this. However, as you said you cannot because of work schedules, but that is just the way that it goes. They are not going to retroactively give you the same benefit as it defeats the purpose.

Sign up on time......

As said before, this was not possible because I did not know I was going to have the weekend free. As far as signing up "on time," I did, I just didn't sign up "in time" to get the players pack.

It's really a moot point. I had a great time and I am going back this year (yes, already signed up).

Bigs put it best:

"Larry, I don't think he was knocking your payout. Just letting people know that players aren't "bagging" just to get mounds and mounds of discs, which was suggested earlier in the thread. "

That was the intent of my statement. No doubt about it, the payout at this tournament is the players pack... and getting to play 4 different courses in one weekend!

Now back to constructive talk (as I really didn't mean to get the conversation into this)...

Pirate, I wouldn't say this discussion isn't constructive. Payout is always a topic of discussion in disc golf events. My wife was in the same boad a couple years ago in this event. I can't speak for Larry, but they might have agreed to refund your money had you paid up front and not been able to show up. I've heard the same thing from people about the payout, but the players package is worth the entry alone, not to mention four great courses (for advanced at least), the World class players party, blues band, fly mart, food (great wings) and $1 draft courtesy of the KofC and a big screen TV for March Madness junkies made up for any shortcomings. Like I said, I'll be happy if I finally finish near the top! :p rWc3523

One of the best disc golf families around too. If Blair has a consistent weekend I would have to say he would have to be one of the two or three picks to win Intermediate at age 14. And I would pick him to win an Advance title before he hits 18 if he stays Am until then.

There's kind of a 14 year old from around here that I'd almost be willing to put money on to be in the final 9 in Advanced this year...

ChrisWoj

This debate will always go around and around...

But let me ask you this Williamson:
When are you going to move up to ADV?
When your rating dictates that you must? after you've won an event? after BG?

For most people the answer is probably "when I'm ready". Don't you think you're ready once you won an INT event or two?

(I am still too in consistent in my tournament play to move up - I have a few 930 rated rounds but a lot of 880s. I'm moving up once my tournament and general play levels out.)

I am playing INT at BG this year because I want another run at the same courses as last year. I played like crap...I want to measure my progress over this first year of tournament play.

This chip on my shoulder is based on the fact that at a couple events last year the top finishers were openly bragging that they were going to place high and take all of the loot...and some of these guys already had won an INT event earlier in the year.

As background: I moved up to Advanced having never won an INT event (my record shows a win in `05, but I actually took 2nd and guy ahead of me was DQ for too high a rating).

It is my opinion that you should not move up a division as soon as you've won one event. That is purely inane. To win one event doesn't say anything about your day to day skill, it says more about how good you are on your hottest day. If you, on your hottest day, are only good enough to win INT (which more than 75% of the time seems juuuust good enough for last cash in ADV), then you should not consider yourself done learning at the INT level.

In my opinion the day to move up is the day that, every tournament you go to, you feel as though you're taking top three or four in decent fields in a division. At that point you're officially done learning in the division. The difference between a regularly cashing Advanced player and a regularly cashing Intermediate player is consistency. Once you've developed the consistency to finish right near the top of Intermediate every tournament, then you have nothing left to learn in that division.

Thats when you move up to Advanced. Where it comes down to getting yourself in to narrow your margin of error on every shot. And then again, once you're near the top every tournament in Advanced? You're out of things to learn.

Actually the bagging is worse in Advanced because you get a decent crew of players that are waiting out the year and all that so they can maybe jump into pro making a splash like an AO or a Bennett or a Scott-Wood.

Are all players required to wear collared shirts since this is an A-Tier?

3.4. Dress Code
A. All competitors and staff are required to wear a shirt.
B. All competitors and staff are required to wear shoes or
other foot coverings. Players will not be allowed to play in
bare feet. Sandals or slides are allowed.
C. The following dress code for all competitors will be
enforced at all PDGA National Tour and Major Events. The
PDGA also recommends that this dress code be enforced
at Super Tour and lower tier events, but this decision lies
solely with the Tournament Director:
(1) All players in PDGA sanctioned competition and
tournament staff are expected to dress appropriately
and to maintain a clean and well-groomed appearance
at all event sites and associated functions.
(2) All players must wear a shirt covering their upper
chest area. A well-tailored shirt with a fold-down,
mock turtle, v-neck, crew neck, Henley, or zippered
collar, and with sleeves covering the part of the arm
from the shoulder to the elbow (commonly known as
the upper arm), shall be considered acceptable.

According to the PDGA Compitition Manual only NT's and Majors have to and it is "Recomended" to all other lower Tiers. so it is at the descretion of the TD. So at least we don't have to just because it is an A-Tier event

Collard shirts are not required, just tastful attire is.

Adv Men should play the same courses they have in the past.
The only question will be what divisions will also fit on the courses with them.

As mentioned before the reson for having pre-registration only was so that I wouldn't have to move a division like I did the adv women last year the night before the event. This year at least everyone will know what courses they will be playing before they get here.

Soooo it looks like the top rated baggers so far this year are:

Jeremy Watts
Edward Palacios
Ziggy Bierekoven

I am picking Bagger Bierekoven for the win. He is looking strong after like 5 wins since Christmas.
But Edward just won his last 2 tourneys, including a win at ZBoaz against a large field, and must be confident coming in to BG.
Jeremy has the near-hometown advantage with much course experience, playing in many BG tournaments this year.
I think Scott White, who is improving, but has not played in any sanctioned event since September, will be a good pick to make the finals.

I won't pick Bagger (I love when nicknames I make up stick) Bierekoven to win... but I will say that judging by how he's played it is going to take 1000 rated golf average to win. That means 2.5 strokes better for the entirety of the main rounds.

I'm sure there will be some swapping. I didn't bring anything to purpously swap, but I did swap a heavy tourney Wraith for a lighter one. And we stayed at the Motel 6 next door to the White Castle and ate their frequently. And the beer store down the road had the BEST selection of beer I'd ever seen. Thought I'd died and went to heaven. Too bad I didn't have more money. Will be prepared this year. rWc3523

We should have some of the buzz's available, I just don't know how many. Yeah $8+ is a little steep for shipping I will contact them and see why it is so much and if that is what they normally charge.

For all those wondering about entries - I will update again this weekend. Please be patient it takes sometime for the credit card ones to go through and then come to me. Until we get to 400+ you shouldn't have to worry about being in the 1st 500. Once we get closer to the tournament I will update them a little more often but for now once a week it will be.

You will need to call Best Western. Their number is 270-343-2937. Tell them you're coming down for the tournament, and they should give you the rate.

I didn't cash last year. I was out of there by 4pm.

allchains
Feb 19 2007, 07:34 PM
The rate for the hotel is $55 + tax , you have till March 1st to get this rate after that the rate goes up to $89 a night.

Also if you don't make the final 9 or win an award you could be out of there sometime after about 1:30 or so. Other than that it will be closer to 4-5 depending on everything.

I will try and update before this weekend, but for those that are worrying we aren't close to the 500 yet and there is still plenty of time to get your money here.

What is going to be in the players packages for the first 500 to pre-register, and for the ones after the first 500? I've searched for a half-hour now, and have not had any luck. There are 397 pre-registered that are posted to date, and I just did the title-disc thing today. What are the chances that I am in the first 500?

The reason I'm asking is because I hope to do well, but considering the number of PRO level Advanced players that will be competing that weekend...getting the primary players package is my hope!

First of all ratings are just numbers of consistancy. Anyone can have their best weekend of golf ever or just hit one lucky putt. And win bowling green.
Also in Am1 there are 969,972,973, and 980 rated players. Its just means that they practice more and are more consistant. or just play their home courses and do good or just ams for life. :Dj/k
Dont worry about numbers, just play your game and practice putting. Everything else will come. Good luck

I will make sure and update and then will post the ones that made it in the first 500 on the club website www.bgdg.org (http://www.bgdg.org) so you can see if you made it.

Players packs: These are the ones confirmed a couple we are waiting to hope for something nice or new.
Discraft - FLK - supercolor surge - 2nd image on website.
DGA - Rogue
Innova - ??? will let you know once I have a confirmation
Gateway - ??? will let you know.

All Adv divisions will receive 4 disc and shirt and mini or two.
All Am divisions will receive 3 disc and shirt and mini or two.

As we always do we will still give a disc or two to all above the 500.

Just remember it is pre-registration only - there will be no Friday or Saturday signups - so please don't come expecting in - may have some room for some help if you do. :)

To see if you are in the 1st 500, go to www.bgdg.org (http://www.bgdg.org) and click the link that is in the middle of the page where is says "here is the list".

Those above 500 will get something but not sure what it will be and will probably vary between one player to the next.

I still have 4 I think to put in the 1st 500 but have a couple of things to still check out. If someone drops then the next player in line will move up.

Thanks!

This already came up...

Be interesting to see what courses the Advanced Masters play huh Russ??

With so many Advanced it looks like they will be taking up 4 courses almost by theirselves.

Unless they cut-off the field soon, they will not be able to play the Advanced and Advanced Masters on the same courses.

Should be interesting.

reggaB, we could end up like my wife and son last year, playing four courses they had never seen before! At least we would have advance notice, but I'm still not positive about getting up there Friday with enough time to play! And I know I won't be playing four courses in one day! One of them is a looooong way from Bowling Green proper! I'd really be bummed (and I guess about 63 other advanced masters, women and grandmasters would as well) about playing the other four courses. That basically reserves the four best courses for the advanced players. But I guess there's not much else they can do, either. Guess we'll find out soon enough! rWc3523

289 Advanced

Advanced Masters can always step up and play Advanced if they want to play the better courses, and the best courses should be used for the Advanced division.

Just to give a status update:
With current numbers the women should be with the adv men unless that division gets to big to fit on the main 4 with the women. The masters will not play the main 4 courses as their numbers are to high to go with the adv men.

As for the main 4 - due to input from here and emails this year and last year more than likely there will be at least 1 course of the alternate 4 used for the adv men. This means the "other" divisions will get to play at least one of the old main 4.

As for doubles I am still waiting for them to give me info - I know maceman and sunking will each have a round of doubles ( random draw ) going on. One will be in the morning the other in the afternoon.

I may have one more sponsor interested in that as well so will post as soon as I know.

If you switch one of the courses for the Adv. division you should do it for the NT weekend too. I played in the Adv division with a rating in the 880's so that I could play the harder courses. I too want redemption on all of the courses I played last year. Also, Adv men and Adv. women should get to play the hardest courses because these are the only divisions not protected by age or rating which means EVERYONE can play these courses if the step up to the top AM divisions.

If the ams do indeed get franklin.. we need to knock off White Park - that would be like 30 miles away from each other

Knowing that the tendency to use White park as the awards ceremony and final nine means the ADV players prolly gonna use White park and that means Chalybeate Springs with the OB in effect..

Which means.. one other course will be knocked off. It better not be Keriakes!!

personally I am quite indifferent towards the course distribution. I enjoyed myself last year on the intermediate courses, and I felt that they were a solid set with good variety. plus the length and difficulty was right for the top guys (which wasn't me... :( )

anyway what I wanted to say is if you do change the courses keep the juniors in mind... I think it would be a big mistake to try and put them on something as long as White. You would be better putting them on a shorter course.

Franklin was over 40 miles away from Chalybeate last year and that somehow worked out. White is by far the most Advanced to Pro course Bowling Green has to offer. Some of the Intermediate men and Jr.s and Intermediate women can't reach some of the holes in 4 full fledged straight drives from the tee pad. White should be the last course to be sent down to the Intermediates. Personally I had rather play White than Hobson because I can get out to over 300', but have trouble with accuracy so I actually do better on White than Hobson but anyone with any honesty would say that Lovers would be a better fit for Intermediate than White. And if it is Franklin that is going to Advance it is just a longer more challenging Lovers so the switch wouldn't be much difference.

You must have a cannon arm because according to the 2006 SSA's, White was the hardest (mean of 52.61) of the four AMI courses, and yes for all four pools. On the other hand, Lovers was the easiest (mean of 47.61) for the advanced players.

Well this is one way to get a lot of chatter. I have taken input as mentioned from last year's players and from players coming this year and here on the board. No matter what is done some will be unhappy. I have figured it is best to try and please the masses but sometimes it comes out about the same. Anway as for the course change. I am doing it for a couple of reasons:
1. it gives all divisions one course that is a little further to drive than others
2. it gives the so called other divisions a chance to play a course they wouldn't before

As for comparing it to the NT there is no comparing if we didn't have the numbers we wouldn't be using the other courses and if the NT could get this big then we would use them as we are now.

The course that will be moving will be Lovers for Franklin. For those that want to play the hardest then we are doing that now for those that want even driving arrangements we have a better split as well.

I have confirmation of another course sponsor and will be posting that info real soon. They will be 2 rounds of doubles on Thursday and a radar and driving distance contest on Friday.

I also have made arrangments to have food for all at the players party. Last year the idea was to have appetizers not to feed everyone and that was the problem. Players were taking more than we expected. This year we will have BBQ sandwiches, coleslaw and baked beans. Everyone should be able to have a plate and that is the goal.

Will update more info as I get it.

Mar 15 2007, 01:09 AM

The 8 courses we will play are as follows:
Kereiakes

Hobson Grove
Franklin
Lovers Lane
Basil Griffin
Chalybeate Springs (Edmonson)

If the Advanced and whoever they are put with play these 4:

That means the rest would be playing these 4:
Lovers Lane
Basil Griffin
Chalybeate Springs

I play 3 of them quite a bit.
Lovers most of the holes are around 300' give or take a little but there are I believe two that are over 400. There are trees on most holes but it is not a wooded course and there are several routes on most holes. Also no real OB to be concerned about I have only went OB one time in about a dozen rounds.

Chalybeate is a very short course because of the amount of land it is on there is one 365' down hill and one 300' and the rest shorter than that. That also puts some of the tees and fairways in danger of an arrant disc so if you hear four cover your head :D. About half is open with few or no trees and the other half is fairly tightly wooded using hills and even a couple of bluffs in the course design. It is a fun course to play but luck could play a part in how your day goes. Two identical shots could have very different results on some holes.

Griffin is also a tale of two courses about half of the course is either in woods or playing close to a lake. The other half is fairly open but there are some small trees and bushes and should actually start being pretty nice in 3-5 years. The ones in the woods and close to the lake are fairly short and the ones on the back nine are mostly around 300' with a couple of short ones and a couple of longer ones.

I have not played Preston Miller but am going to play it this weekend.

I have updated the list. This only includes the online registers should have the mail ones by this weekend.

Please don't take any comments on here to heart about what might or could happen unless it comes from me. I will let you all know as I and the club decide on what to do with the over whelming numbers we are getting. Please be patient and we will do what we can to make it fun.

Will post some more info on the doubles tomorrow.

Terry, It's rumored that the Advanced Masters will be GAINING Lovers at the expense of Franklin, which will go into the Advanced rotation. At least I hope that's the way it will go. It would seem nuts to toss us "old guys" on the longest course (White Park). rWc3523

On the previous page (pg. 47) Larry said that the pools would be switching Lovers and Franklin. And I think most that have played all of the courses and truly do want the four most challenging courses in advance would agree that is the way it is now. I would have to agree that Lover's is maybe a nicer course than White or Hobson. Although in my opinion Franklin is still probably the second nicest course in the area as well behind only Keriakes. Especially playing it in spring or fall when the walking isn't quite so bad.

If your throwing 360 - 400....move up :D

Man, I wish that were true. I throw between 450-500 but my midrange game is poor and my putting is worse. I live for the long drive and suffer where it counts -- putting. Technical courses have the tendency to eat me alive. I tend to eat long, open courses alive. There seems to be more technical courses...

So Mike D., does this mean you're staying in Advanced Master? I am. I'll get to play Lovers (one of my favorites) and two new ones since I played Basil in the old days. We should be able to get up there early Friday now that we found out the kids are out of school that day! :) We're staying at the host hotel. rWc3523

Russ,

I would really like to play Keriakes, so I might opt to play Advanced. Don't know if I could hang with those "young Guns" though. I guess I will decide when I find out what courses the Advanced Masters will be playing.

There is a group of us coming up on Friday afternoon also, maybe we will see you out on one of the courses! We are all staying at the Host hotel also so maybe we will see you guys there.

Later,

Mike D

Is this going to have to have to be capped at 720? I don't see any other way unless you put more than 5 people on each card... 5x18x8=720

Good Point. I don't think anyone wants to be playing on nine hole courses with nine baskets tossed up to make 18. This events turning into a monster! /msgboard/images/graemlins/ooo.gif rWc3523

Man if you are throwing 450-550 you should move up from AM1s. That is crazy. It would take me 2 shots to get it that far.

I would much rather play a guy that throws 500 than can make anything from 50 feet.

Any word on what number this is going to be capped at? Capped by division?

No complaints here about the switch, Larry.
I think that National Corvette show is going to be this same weekend. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but the traffic will be insane around Bowling Green in between rounds!

One request... Please don't have pools playing Franklin-Simpson and Ephram White on the same day. Thanks.

Where is the distance contest going to be held?

Sheila and I are kinda hoping that you have a mixed doubles division?

I might have a partner lined up so that we could create a mixed doubles division.
We're planning on attending the MaceMan event...

Anyone else for mixed doubles?

Larry, or someone from the club,

If you could post the address of each of the courses (or better yet the long/lat of the first tee) that would be great, I need to program the GPS

NC arrives in 11 days...
