Just got word (no details yet though) that Texas States this year is going to be a USDGC qualifier!

Wow! This is great news! A great way to kick off the new season!

We'll be posting details as soon as they are available! :D

Feb 16 2006, 12:29 PM
All NT events are USDGC qualifiers.

Feb 16 2006, 02:18 PM
Yes I think that is right Easy. Reg.'s are rolling in. Don't miss out on getting in, esp. if you are an AM. Remember there are two more chances to qualify for the bonus payout from the LSS to be paid at States. Powell next weekend and Pecan Park April 1/2. Pecan should be HUGE this year! :D

We had the first batch of shirts and discs available for sale at The Moffitt Show this weekend! Wow! The logo came out fantastic and really, really looked sharp! It looks better on the black shirts than on the white ones.

Susan also had a batch of custom tie-dyed white ones that came out very well too.

I'm holding out to see what the Incolor discs look like, and will probably give one of my white shirts to Susan and have her tie-dye it.

We sold a bunch of the discs we had displayed, and about 6-7 tees as well. This is going to be classic logo!

Please start thinking about getting your registration in early...you aren't going to want to miss States this year...there's lots of local buzz around town so we are expecting a high turnout rate.

Check out the logo on the website for Texas States at: Texas States website (http://www.texasstates.org/)

Mar 07 2006, 01:46 PM
This sucks; I was planning on playing Texas States this year for the first time in over 7 years dang it. Dallas (my son) is bridging that Saturday from Cub Scouts to Boy Scouts. That is something that I had better not skip. The Cub Scout pack usually does this on Athens weekend. (Why I have not gone the last few years and why I only ran it once) I just now noticed that Athens was moved and Texas States was put in on this weekend.

Oh well, maybe next year.

ching_lizard
Mar 09 2006, 12:09 AM
Oh man Pizza!!! I thought you were finally going to make one of these things!

I understand the family committment thing, but I sure am sorry to read that you aren't going to make it this year! This is one to catch for sure!

The discs are selling like crazy! I carted 5 more up to the Snow Farm last weekend and sold all 5 by Saturday night, and had players asking me for more!

There is a good buzz going about for this event, and I'm encouraging all of our local players to register in advance for this tourney. Do it online TODAY!!! With fixed size pools, the Ams are the ones most likely to get squeezed out of this tournament! Online registration for Texas States can be handled at: TitleDisc Texas States registration! (http://www.titledisc.com/Events/FlynHighDiscGolf.com_2006_TXStates.php)

This is going to be one wild west shoot-out! There are a lot of really cool "extras" floating around this event.

Signed up yesterday and still not showing up?

The players list is probably only updated every several days or so... Given that the tourney is still more than a month out.

I'm really looking forward to this event, it's hard to believe that the last time I played Texas States was in 2003. :(

JIO
Mar 14 2006, 01:16 PM
I'm signed up. Can't wait to play in my first PDGA sanctioned tournament. I have no idea what my rating is and I'd like to get an idea, so that's going to be interesting.

Sounds like it's gonna fill for sure! Hope ur ready for a bunch of whiners that didn't sign up on time!! We just went through that in Victoria. I better get mine sent in this week! Can't wait for this one, it oughta be a blast. I'll be in Beaumont working then, so it's not that far for me to drive. See you all there..

JIO
Mar 14 2006, 09:07 PM
Not far a drive Jay? Heh, it's almost not far a walk. You won't be spending any money on hotels, that's for sure. An hour drive, tops.

J_TEE
Mar 14 2006, 09:41 PM
Depending on contractor traffic and what time I drive. It has taken up to 3 hours to get to Houston from Beaumont before. Just can't drive during those hours!!!! I'll probably stay in Houston anyway.

How many poker players have we got comin' in for Texas States?

We are going to host a little poker on the Friday night before States. Folks that are coming in from out of town can check into their hotel and then scoot over here and do a little "power relaxing" before heading into competition the next morning. Last fall, we had about 8 disc golfers over here - I think one of the Readings may have ended up in the cash line for that one... :D

We had enough fun with it to do it again. If you are interested, please let me know in advance so we know how many to start planning for. We'll run one tournament at an easy $10 buy in, and probably have a cash game on the side.

It should be a good way to unwind after your travel into town (or even if you're already in town! :D) We'll knock off at about 10:30 so everyone can get plenty of sleep before the tournament.

PM me if you're interested, and I'll get you directions and a phone number.

Mar 16 2006, 09:49 AM

Texas States has had a bad "rap" for weather. Okay...maybe it was deserved when we held it in September, but I'm a HUGE fan of having it moved to the springtime now!

Below are a few weather facts that I've culled from some Internet searches...April has the 3rd lowest average precipitation of the year with February and March being the two lowest average precipitation months.

Although the wildflowers are just now starting to come out in a few places, I would expect that we'll still have plenty of wildflower colors on display when April 22nd rolls around.

Here's the weather info:
<table border="1"><tr><td> Houston April Weather Factoids</td><td>
</td></tr><tr><td>Average High</td><td>79
</td></tr><tr><td>Average Low </td><td>61
</td></tr><tr><td>Average Precip.</td><td>3.46 inches
</td></tr><tr><td>Record High</td><td>94
</td></tr><tr><td>Record Low</td><td>22
</td></tr><tr><td>Sunrise on 4/22/2006</td><td>6:48 a.m.
</td></tr><tr><td>Sunset on 4/22/2006</td><td>7:52 p.m.
</td></tr><tr><td> </tr></td></table>

I particularly like the 72 degree variation between the record high and record low!

5 time OKIE state champ at DDC, and never lost a match in Massachucets with a first time player that happened to be a girl. So I'll take all you suckas on in DDC. I'll just find a bum from downtown H-Town to be my partner and we will WIN!

Yes, I'm wondering the same thing. Larry, where has the table tennis table(s) been in the past? Cause I'm ready for anybody. Does everyone know that an "official" game is now played to only 11 points? Could get a bit windy outdoors playing "ping pong". :)

Mar 21 2006, 11:17 AM
Dude I will be catching your weak tosses with my teeth. Might even do the ole toothbrush tooth stall freestyle move, while I'm waiting for my 200 foot lob shot to come down to double yourass up!

BEEEEEEEEELIEVE IT! :D

ozdisc
Mar 21 2006, 11:24 AM
Now that is funny. :D Last time I tried a tooth stall I sliced my lips open. I will be watching the 200 foot lobs for angles while you are trying to stop your nails from bleeding.

Who else wants to line up in front of Kev and I? It is DDC right and not guts? :D

Table Tennis outside is not too much fun. Where are we playing?

Mar 21 2006, 12:02 PM
Sorry guys - but I don't have any information about a table-tennis match.

The DDC is another matter although I'm not the organizer of it. I will get more solid details from Stephen about it, and I'm going to try and sell Stimpy on being a referee for the Australia/Oklahoma match-up at least! :D

The Guts exhibition is intended to be a World Record attempt to catch the fastest throw. Nez is going to be on the receiving end of those tosses! :D (I'm just going to be out there with a video camera trying to capture it!)

Table Tennis is in jeopardy, but I haven't given up yet. The host hotel, Hampton Inn, had a room they were giving us for Saturday night, and I have a portable table to move in there. But looks like the room is booked for a training class, and alternatives are slim. I am checking to see if the room can be free'd up, but no guarantees at this point.

Add em up right now, and we've got a lot of talent coming in for States. That I know of, there are 5 World/National Title holders so far...(of course I'm considering Feldberg as one of them...)

This was actually fun looking at...

Dave Feldberg - USDGC Champion
Des Reading - Worlds (3 or 4 time winner now?)
Jay Reading - World Doubles and USDGC Putting Champ
Avery Jenkins - USDGC Distance Champ
De'atra Edwards - Am Women's Master
Vinnie Miller - World Doubles Master Champ
Barry Schultz - Worlds Champ (2 time)

Am I missing anyone with World or US title that's signed up so far?

If Coda comes back again this year with Kev, then we'll also have last year's States Champion too! There's gonna be some mighty fine disc golf talent out there.

Seems odd that we don't have many Masters signed up yet...1 in Pro and 2 in Advanced. Wassup masters?

Mar 22 2006, 12:20 AM
Hey, FYI this is also a Junior friendly event! We will run juniors on 18 holes in between rounds on Saturday, and then then play 18 holes at 8am on Sunday to finish while the rest play 27 on tee times. We always have cool stuff for Juniors.

And Pro Open Women's entry is only $90, while payout will be based on $110 [Texas States is funding the difference!]

Come and Get Some!

Me and Dee won World mixed dubs and so did Jay and Des :D

Hey, FYI this is also a Junior friendly event! We will run juniors on 18 holes in between rounds on Saturday, and then then play 18 holes at 8am on Sunday to finish while the rest play 27 on tee times. We always have cool stuff for Juniors.

Hey, Dave. Jarred and I will be playing States and are looking forward to it. We won't miss his Sunday morning tee time this time! :D Your son will be playing?

So, do you have the ping pong table and were gonna load it in a truck and bring it to the hotel? That would be so cool if that worked out, cause I've got serious game!!! :D But I don't currently own a paddle.

NEZ,

Two bridges are needed on the wilmont/tourny and what is up with the no Trophy only option for Ams who want to play up? I have heard from like 7 guys who were planning on playing Open until they heard of the $120 entry.

Mar 26 2006, 11:53 PM
$120 is set by the PDGA since this one is a NT. Trophy only should be limited to our non-feature events imo. Maybe if enough people were to ask for it we would add it in the future, but as it stands right now no one has said a word about it until now.

ching_lizard
Mar 27 2006, 12:30 AM
First I've heard of anyone (other than maybe Brackel) that wants trophy only option...hmmmm you know, I could see some folks wanting it, but not the players that are most likely to win a trophy though...

...Anyway...I played the Wilmont yesterday in the mini. The course is looking great. A pair of bridges would be nice, but there wasn't any water in it on #17...only water I saw was in Clear Creek and the West side ditch. (Yeah...I had one that found it.:D) The Willy was trimmed up very nice.

Speed Golf update. Right now we are going between 1:00 and 4:00 on Friday. Here are the rules:

1. Players will be spaced out at 3 minute intervals. (if we use a flex start, I will give each competitor at least 3 minutes separation)

2. There will be a starter and each competitor will be timed from start until they cross the finish line.

3. Each competitor will be assigned a number that determines their start position and that will be used to track them, and their strokes through the course.

3. On drop-ins you don't have to release the disc, only touch two chains, however, the stance must be legal, i.e. no falling putts! (a falling putt is a stroke as per the rules)

4. In the event that a player catches another on the course the player who caught the other (hereafter known as the out player) has the hole. The out player must clearly call fore before driving. The in player does not have to yield the hole, he simply has to avoid getting hit by the drive. In the event that the in player interferes with the thrown disc (is hit) he will receive a one stroke penalty. It is the duty of the out player to make sure the in player hears his call but it is the job of the in player to avoid the hit.
a. If both players approach the basket at the same time, the first player to their disc has the hole, the distance of the discs from the basket does not matter; however, if the players arrive at their discs simultaneously, the out player has the hole. In the event that the first player misses the putt, the second player putts before the first player putts again.
b. If both players approach the Tee at the same time, the first player to the box has the hole. However, if the players arrive at the Tee simultaneously, the out player has the Tee.

5. There is no O.B., however, a player can at their own discretion declare a disc lost and re-drive with a one stroke penalty. All lost discs can be picked up and remain in use. (note, this seems like a free pass, it's not, the cost is significantly more than 15 seconds)

6. There is no limit on the number of discs a player can carry (disc management is a skill).

7. Each stroke over par adds 15 seconds to your total time. If you are under par each stroke takes 15 seconds from your total time. The best time wins.

8. You may use the thrown disc as the lie or any disc in your hand to mark your lie, no mini is necessary.

9. There are two divisions, Men's and Women's, cash payout will be according to the PDGA Pro tables.

10. The two meter rule is in force. However, the rule is as follows, if the player can reach their disc without climbing on the tree or pulling themselves up on the tree, the disc is in play. It is O.K. to get the disc down (although a waste of valuable time). Of course this favors taller players... bummer. All other PDGA rules are in force.

11. A lost disc requires the player to re-drive from the Tee or lie. If the player drives and feels their disc is lost but isn't sure, they should throw a second disc and play it.

12. This event is on the honor system. Each player is responsible for keeping track of their own score. Scorecards will be located on each Tee sign and scores from the hole before should be recorded there. If a player forgets to score they will be given 10 strokes for that hole. Also, there will be officials on the course keeping track of strokes and any player caught cheating will be disqualified from the entire event.

Two other points to consider:

We will be running this on the Powell. I desperately want to run it on the Wilmont but after a lot of discussion, I realize the Powell will be better; fewer opportunities for lost discs, shorter course, easier to watch and maintain a good environment.

Second, I am adding $100 cash to the pot and guarantee to pay two deep. So even if it's just you and me, you should come out ahead. :)

It'll be hard to top the player's pack at Bowling Green this last weekend:

A tourney stamped SuperColor Discraft Spectra, a tourney stamped Star Wraith, a tourney stamped Gateway Element, a DGA Squal mid-range, a CE-aviar tye-dye stamped mini, a tournament T-shirt, and a micro-fiber towel.

4 discs, a mini, a t-shirt, and towel. More than the actual entry fee.

I'm such a bonehead! :D I forgot to mention (AS OFFICIAL SPOKESPERSON FOR DAVE NESBITT:) that the very unique and special item for this year's player pack is a deck of playing cards with the Texas States and PDGA logo on the backs, and one of the top 52 disc golf players from around the world.

This is a super-cool one-of-a-kind item available only through Texas States. One deck of these beautiful, high-quality playing cards will be included in every players pack! And that isn't all either!

Gimp will be giving us the estimated added cash amounts when he has them available. :D(Don't kill me John!) But it's looking like this year's event is gonna rock just in terms of the player's pack alone! WOW! Check it out: The Ace of Spades playing card!!! (http://www.hfds.org/assets/TexasDiscGolf_Back.pdf) ( I sure hope this link works!)

Who is that un-masked man??? Who else could it be? There is only a limited number of these decks made...when they are gone, they are gone! Come and get some - register for Texas States today! (http://www.titledisc.com/Events/FlynHighDiscGolf.com_2006_TXStates.php) Who are the 52 going to be????

Why is every tournament recently taking money out of payout for players packs?

It is part of the PDGA guidelines for B Tiers and above now. The TDs are required to provide a players pack ($10 for B-Tiers and $25 for A-Tiers) to all Am entries. They are allowed to count the cost of the players pack as part of the payout.

'06 Tour Standards (http://www.pdga.com/documents/td/06TourStandards.pdf)

Some other important info I forgot to post about:

Bring extra cash with you to the tournament for raffle tickets and the fly-mart. We have a ton of stuff for the raffle prizes, at least a few vendors selling their wares at fly-mart. Although the tournament is taking care of lunch on Saturday, Sunday will be a different matter...we are still working out the details for food on Sunday but whatever it turns out being, you will need to purchase your meal on Sunday.

If we are successful in obtaining an adult beverage sponsor, we'll also be requesting donations for that too!

As always, we'll have plenty of Texas States stamped merchandise available for sale as well. Everyone has been really jazzed about the Discraft 4-color discs too! I've sold out of them at both events where I took them - Moffitt Show and Texas State Doubles. I will be carting a few with me up to World Doubles in Wimberley this weekend...if you want one, please let me know...I would like an idea about whether I need to bring an extra lot of them up with me.

The tee shirts we have right now still do not have the sponsorship logos on the back. The are all to be gathered up next week to send back to the screeners for having the sponsors added to the back...if you want one without the sponsors on it, then this weekend at Wimberley is the last chance you will have to get one that way.

Larry, or John, what exactly does this mean? Does this potentially mean that at an NT, pro players will be getting turned away so that the various am fields can expand?

Y'all have complicated my decision by not having the masters eligible for the chance at USDGC. I am not complaining about that, but honestly, I am waiting to see the field of open players that are presently unqualified for USDGC before I make any decision.

Apr 06 2006, 12:53 PM
Yes, pros need to start signing up. The Masters field "may" be moved to pool A for instance which I am guessing would please you. These decisions are yet to be made though. Get your sign ups in!

Pros will be missing out on a huge opportunity if they pass on States this year

Apr 06 2006, 03:22 PM
I doubt we will have that problem. An open player that gets shut out will not be affected by the Ams, they will be affected by their fellow division-mates who signed up earlier.

The A pool limit is 72, and currently only open to MPO & FPO, as required -- and neither division can be moved. Any shuffling of people into that pool cannot happen until the day of (I think).

Apr 06 2006, 03:28 PM
A N.T.event turning away a open player..........that would not float very good in the disc golf bowl.
IMO

35 open spots in pool A will not happen either - the easy answer is sign up now if you are a Pro player and want to play.

There are rules to this stuff that we are following. We are sending the message, sign up if you want in.

The volunteers have put a lot of blood sweat and tears into raising this money on a short turnaround. How about we put the focus on all the pro players who are not getting their entry fees in (what we are trying to do btw so they wont miss out). It is always easy to accuse staff of doing it wrong Vinnie. Are you playing?

There is a lot of cold hard cash and love going into this event, get signed up so you wont miss out!

Maybe it will not fill and it will not be a problem at all. We shall see

Apr 06 2006, 03:36 PM
FYI - that is incorrect information Tony just gave. We will be looking at pool assignments in the next few days. There should be plenty of spots for everyone - get your entry fees IN!

I didn't do that....I just wouldn't want to be the one explaining why a open player didn't get in. We should all sign up early! Makes it easy on everyone. And yes I am playing.
I will say if a N.T. is to highlight the elite player....why is there a rec division?

Maybe we need to change the name from recreational for Vinnie (not that it would make any difference to him). I am sorry we don't all have the same abilities and able for all of us to play Pro. I enjoy playing the game and I like to be able to compete with others of my same ability. I think that is the purpose of having different divisions. I also enjoy playing in tournaments. I don't just come out to watch you play. I still can't figure out why you are so down on recreational players.

Apr 06 2006, 03:40 PM
Vinnie - NT events only guarantee slot availability until two weeks before the event after that, the TD is free to adjust pools as they want.

Let's see...we have Advanced Am players waiting to hand us money to play (in advance of the event) and the possibility that we might have another couple of MPOs that might decide they want to play the day of the event...tough choice there, eh?

If MPOs want to play in this tournament they can sign up in advance...if they don't want to, then they take a chance that there might not be room for them when they try to do so on the day of.

It has always been the practice of Texas States to squeeze in as many people that want to play as possible. We have a good track record of doing this pretty successfully too although it does move Ams into the A-pool. We've always managed to clear the waiting lists before the first tee time...we'd probably even make room for an MPO if one wanted to get on a wait list! :D

This shuffling around of divisions and pool assignments hasn't been kept a secret. We've been vocal about getting the A-pool registrations to us in order to ensure availability of space. April 8th is the day that we get to start juggling it around. There isn't a wait list yet, but there will be by the end of the weekend.

Larry, I understand what y'all are saying, and I intend on signing up tonight, but this NT is very different from other NTs in that y'all are possibly going to have 2/3 am, 1/3 pro split set in stone by this weekend. Like Vinnie said, while it all might be on the up and up, it's gonna look kind of weird if pros get turned away at an NT with three courses, while ams get in.

Vinnie - I'm very disappointed in your remarks about this. It comes off as sounding very "elitist" to us non-Pro players.

Just because the PDGA chose the unfortunate moniker of "Recreational" for the lowest skilled division players doesn't mean that those players are any less passionate about the sport. And, any who take the time to sign up in advance certainly are exhibiting much more professionalism than a "Pro" player that is still trying to register on the day of an A-tier (or NT-tier) event.

I can think of many recreational-skilled players that have a far greater professional approach toward (and in support of) our sport than most "Pros" that I know.

Now...are you going to act like a Pro and get your registration in, or are you going to act like an "elitist Pro" and act like this is a recreational tourney? :D

Good 1 larry!
we need to figure out each division should have their own weekend. A rec. winner on a rec. weekend would fill like the number 1 winner. Instead of the winner of the lowest division playin that weekend. we could run multiple events every weekend in different locations. Most of the gallery for disc golf is playing in the tournament.
But I didn't come up with this idea....I think it was the P.G.A.
And I know there will be people who say we arn't there yet.
But we are growing much faster than that ball golf thing did. And the first step has to be took. Join us at TWC and you will see what I mean.

Apr 06 2006, 04:25 PM
Wow, look at all the debate!

Let me try to be the arbitrator...

I see Vinnie's point about having a "recreational" division at a National Tour event. I agree it might not be the best idea. That is, for non-PDGA members using recreational divisions to try out the tournament scene. For seasoned tournament players that just aren't as skilled and talented as the Vinnie's of the world, it seems alot more necessary. I think this problem is solved by requiring PDGA membership to participate in such a large event.

I like the fact that major's (Am World's) only have the advanced and age-protected divisions, but I'm unsure if NOT having the lower divisions at NT events is a good thing.

The NT's purpose is to promote the touring pro player, so they should be showcased. That means that they should be SHOWN...to the am and casual-playing world. I like how TX States does this by teetimes with pros starting last. I think an even better idea would be to stagger the start so that AMs all start shotgun-style early, and pros start shotgun style later on, so that amateurs can watch the pro's play more holes, and still get the 63 holes of golf in. Maybe that's an idea to look at for later on or for other events; I think it would work quite well.

To summarize:
1. Rec is a crappy name, but dedicated players participate in those divisions, although many new [true "recreational"] players do as well.
2. Pro's should be showcased; that is the point of the NT.
3. Reserving spots and then releasing them to get more players (be it am, pro, whatever) is not a bad thing; ample time is given, and pre-reg'ing HELPS EVERYONE!

Apr 06 2006, 04:29 PM
I just looked and there are plenty of NT's run in conjunction with an AM event... There are a good number of NT's that draw in the 70-85 range for the pro divisions which sounds like about what we will have if some pros get off the fence :p

So now Vinnie we are going to have a tourney pissing contest lmao. I heard your event was awesome last year, but lets keep talk of it on your own thread lmfao

Apr 06 2006, 04:32 PM

Fewer people would be able to play - the current set up maximizes participation and leaves lots of people for the gallery if they want to watch the pros.

BTW - people look for links to titledisc, added payout numbers, divisional breakdown etc need to go back up to before this debate started in the thread lmao :D

I think the lack of rec divisions in other areas is because those players playing at that level play up..I think not offering the rec division will only make the other divisions bigger!! Vinnie, do we have that many TD's? Which one will handle the Pro tourney, which one the Masters, etc. Will a TD be willing to run a "B" tier for 10 to 15 Pros? It seems like there is a problem already having enough weekends for the different tourneys. Maybe it would be feasible and advantageous to consider on down the road, if this continues to be a problem to look at seperating and having two different tourneys like Pro and Ams. I don't see it as that big of a problem yet, only in some cases. How many tourneys get filled and have to turn away people. I think they did at Victoria, but I am not aware of any others. Would it be profitable to seperate the divisions?

When States took on the NT designation, it became for the Pro's and the other divisions' importance greatly diminishes. Rolling over any non MPO or FPO players into the A pool now isn't a good idea, IMO.

It is not a bad thing to fill pools, and start wait lists for the filled pools.

We could always move the Rec divisions to Moffitt. :)

Is that true?

Is there a "grace-period" after an update for players ratings? If so, where is that stated or written (not trying to stir a pot, just genuinly interested).

What about a sub-955 player who has accepted cash and signed up in Adv, but his ratings on the 18th shoots up above 960? Would he still be allowed to play Adv?

Apr 06 2006, 05:59 PM
You could PM Chuck, I would look but trying to find something on this site is like pulling teeth.

From my understanding the ratings update is meaningless that close to an event. The only thing that it could do is let a player move down by choice if the TD lets them switch. I imagine for States letting someone switch wont happen because of the pools filling.

{edited because i think i said the wrong name}

Apr 06 2006, 06:02 PM
The reason there is a grace period is for exactly this reason. Events that fill with set pools etc. No clue where you can find that written, but I am 99.9% sure it is true...

It effects people like Ryan who are rated probably unfairly into Advanced off of two rounds to. His rating could drop but it is too late

Yes, my source said they were nearly side by side, and they also said they provided different lines. Presumably, one would want to practice those lines before money is on the line. James - I played the Wilmont last weekend and saw this:

Most of our tee boxes (where the tee sign is at has a set of Blue bricks buried at grade level...even though they were new, they were difficult to pick out on some tees. We scraped off both sides of the brick markers where they needed it. There was usually a corresponding set of brick markers (in red or something...)on the opposite side of the tee marker...and the distance to the pole looked relatively the same. I never saw a 3rd set of bricks although I did see one brick painted 1/2 Blue 1/2 White...

they wont and cant be bumped...only by choice (assuming there is a spot for them if they want to)since the update is so close.

Chuck, are players subject to play in their respective divisions the following weekend after a ratings update? In other words is their a grace period after ratings updates?
from chuck kennedy:

"No grace period. That's why we update between Sunday-Tuesday. The TD gets an email from the PDGA with current members and their ratings on Thursday right before the event so they have the latest info."

That is good (ratings bump)

Yes, there should be no problem with Rec's playing states.

I understand why some tournaments don't offer them. They cause the most problems, but they have to start somewhere.

Gimp, you are about to get mail.

Apr 06 2006, 09:26 PM
Where did you send that too?

Apr 06 2006, 09:26 PM
Well then that presents a problem and contridicts what has been said in the past.

Apr 06 2006, 09:27 PM
That last one was to EC not Pizza...

Apr 06 2006, 09:53 PM
From Chuck "Wait! I found the grace period. It's on page 7 of the Tour standards. As long as your player is preregistered, they lock down their division for the two weekends following the ratings update. It's then up to you if you wish to change someone but you don't have to."

We have plans to accomodate 108 pro players if they would sign up as req'd. Texas State past history is less than 60 total pros over the past few years. Right now we can accomdate 72 MPO/FPO players. This may be reduced to 48 if we move 24 MPM spots, or we could move approx. 8 MPG spots, leaving 64 for MPO/FPO. There is no guarantee we are moving MPM into A pool. We will NOT be moving any amateurs into A pool.

Note also we are NOW a qualifier for the US Amateur Disc Golf Championship! These spots will go to the top 10% of B pool scores

Texas States, like other NT events, is a combination event. The pro side is an NT, the Advanced side is an A-tier and the Int/Rec side is a B-tier. We flex based on our market, but what I can tell you is that this group of Houston volunteers has done an outstanding job in very short order to bring you an event to remember for all players, Pro and Amateur alike!

I'm sorry, but I have to belly laugh at those suggestions about running Texas States on separate weekends...

It is always a struggle to get enough volunteers to staff once...much less twice! Ha-ha!

Most big tournaments are utilizing 2 courses and large card sizes. Our forte in having a facility like we have out at Tom Bass, is that we have 3 courses in a single location. We can hold Ams and Pros at the same time. This allows many more people the opportunity to share expenses with someone in another division and we believe it to add tremendous ambience to the event.

Ams want to play and are willing to register far in advance...I've actually had one player pre-pay me for the following year's entry! With the way the pools stand currently, there are 8 tees out of 18 occupied for A pool. Do you think we'll let them stand unoccupied if there are people on a waiting list in the Am side B-pool?

The important point to take away from all of this is that you need to get your entry into Gimp or TitleDisc if you want a guaranteed slot ...Ams or Pros because like it or not, this is a mini-business (running a tournament) and cash in hand talks...

Can you imagine how much easier it would be to run a tournament where you know all of the financials in advance so the day of the event, you'd have all payout done in advance??? Wouldn't that be awesome???!!!! The problem is this: Texas States always kicks all the money it can back into the tournament itself and into payout. A good year is when we run a completely break-even event with a few hundred bucks left over for a staff "thank you" dinner!

I personally don't like Pro only events. They always seem so small. We just can't get the traveling pro down here anymore so why bother.

Speaking of traveling Pro's, who all is signed up from out of state?????

one of the changes that came with movingto the springtime was to make Texas States exactly that - only Texas players allowed!

I'm surprised that we haven't seen a registration from the guy that shot a "perfect" round out here during 2002 Pro Worlds yet...I'd kind-of think he might be interested in playing on these courses again! LoL! :D

Personally, I love having AMs around at the bigger tournaments. They are always fun to talk to, make a great gallary, etc.
The most dis-heartening thing I find going on is the lack of Texas MPO representation. I think we have to remember that A) Texas Pros are notorious for signing up last minute B) People don't read the message board and don't know what is going on

When Texas States was being touted around the state all was really mentioned is that it is going to HUGE and we have three courses. That would tend to let most people think that three courses can easily accomadate everyone.

Time to call your local Pro, make announcements at mini's etc. The word is not getting out and we all know many Pro's who have said they will be there. It would be a travesty in the National Tour system to have Pro's turned away beacause of a co-weekend of A-Tier and B-Tier, but you can't blame the tournament for taking cash waving players.

Get the word out, let's go :DIf we can't support the biggest tournament Texas will have on the tour this year, what do we want for nothing?

Where are the big arms from Dallas? Are they too good to leave their home courses? The Dallas area, for some reason never has players at any of the tournies I have played. Even when I played Waco last year, there were more people from the houston area than the Dallsa area. Whats up with that?
