I didn't count how many I gave away. If I had to guess it was somewhere around 50. I gave out 3 times as many the second round then the first...I couldnt make it on Sunday so I dont know how many were given away then. Keep in mind, that was one mini per person who went OB, not for every OB. I must have seen atleast 12-15 double circles and a couple of triple circles, no quad.

Was kinda awkward to give a prize to a player for going OB, especially when they went out 2-3 times :) It was fun though and it brought a smile to the face of 99% of the players.

BTW, sorry to the 4-5 people that I had to mark their spot next to the speed sign. Each time I was dreading having to go up and give those players a mini after having to give them that mark. They were all good about it which was cool.

I am glad everyone enjoyed the jellybeans. That is one of Pearlands biggest secrets.

I got some video while hanging out on Saturday. Mostly the top Pro card the second round. I got one name messed up in the beginning but the rest should be right. Hope the link holds up....

I was upset to see that people that went OB got a "I was eaten by the Dragon" mini, and everyone that got a 3 didn't get a "I slayed the Dragon at Texas States!" mini. Oh well, I'll take the three any day! Best hole of the tourney for me!

Next year... I'll buy you a beer! You'll like it Rhett, I promise.

Make it a Henry Weinhart's Premium Root Beer and I'll think about it. :)

While Henry's makes some very fine beverages, I'm a strong supporter of when in Rome. I think you should try a St. Arnold's Root Beer, it has a sharp edge to it, but a smooth finish. Definitely fine. :D

Happy B-day SeeHorse!!!

Sorry I had to leave before Payout started Sunday, my little Angel didnt get a nap that day, and she had had it......

Next year everyone triple check your card before turning it in, we had to penalize at least 10 people over the weekend....

Glad everyone enjoyed themsleves, and I am glad I got to meet a few out of towners I hadnt met previously....

Haven't played Waco yet, so I can't compare courses. Many Houston courses are admittedly substandard, but the courses for this tournament are pretty **** good.

The Bass courses are boring!!too long and open!!

This, to me, seems a mistatement. What the Bass Courses are is a mixture of long and wooded. That is, you have to have a big game and a little game to win. Furthermore, on most of the big holes, a big arm without enough control will get you in dutch in a hurry. Add in the prevalent wind and these courses are very good courses.

It is interesting to me, but I don't ever see this kind of bashing for other big tournaments. I've played some of the courses played in other NTs and I've seen others on video and none of them are significantly better than Bass. However, very few of them exist in the same situation; a State that has at least three disc golf meccas and several minor meccas. I suspect at least part of the bashing that goes on here is more about too much of a good thing. On the other hand, I've never seen a Houston player bash the courses out West or up North...

I also want to comment on the jobs Nez, Louis and Neal did. It is easy to see the fruits during the tournament, and often hard to see the labor that went into it. Over the past months Nez worked on this project almost non-stop. There was a constant barrage of ideas tested to try and bring out all the items that made this tournament special. Minis, art, books etc. Talk about a full time job for Nez and HFDS. Lest we forget, I play Bass pretty much every weekend and starting three months ago, I've not played a round where Louis and Neal weren't out working on the courses. I truly enjoyed playing this tournament and have never been so impressed with a vounteer effort as I have been with this one.

Thanks....

Gimp deserves more than a little thanks also and since he has broached the topic... one way that HFDS is raising money for this tournament is our regular Bass Mini. This mini runs on Saturdays at 9:00. $10 entry, $3 goes to TS, all cash payout. If you hit H Town come out and get a round on these courses; my goal for next year is $1000 raised (this year over 6 months we hit $400).

I'm a supporter of that, too, and when in Texas on business travel, I get my traveling mates to drink Shiner (which they enjoy) or Ziegen-whatever (not so much so) when they sponsored the Texas 10. :)

Local hand-crafted root beer rocks. There's a brewery chain out here called BJs that makes their own rootbeer and it's good. Every time we're eating dinner at any other micrbrew place I ask if they have any homemade RB and they all look at me like I'm crazy.

Anyone know why the Waco Charity Open is not yet listed on the PDGA tour page? I was told it would be Pro/Am this year, and I thought I read somewhere that it was June 10-11. Is that correct?

I know this isn't the right thread, but I didn't want to start a new one and I figured someone keeping up with this one would know.

Apr 27 2006, 12:26 PM
Correct according to: http://www.lsdga.com/sched/index.php

ozdisc
Apr 27 2006, 12:29 PM
That is correct. Just keep that weekend free to play the combined Am and Pro B-tier in Waco. I know Joey will post info later but make sure you do signup early when he does. With both Am's and Pro's on the same weekend this year it will surely fill.

Back to TX States...

"what I was told"

The PDGA has changed their policy on posting events on the calendar this year. Because event details sometimes change from year to year, the PDGA no longer will list events until it receives a sanctioning agreement for the event. The sanctioning fees can be paid at the normal time, but the paperwork must be filed early to get the tournament listed.

For the complete confirmed Texas schedule, go to LSDGA.com (http://www.lsdga.com) and select Schedule. I also have stopped listing events that I am unable to confirm with the TD. A few of them I did put on the schedule last year based on the previous year's info either did not happen, or happened on different dates.

how come the MM1 and Adv Women are rated differently from the Int/Rec players? they played in the same pool. but the same score in R1 is rated a bit lower for the Int/Recs, R2 is a bit better for Int/Rec and R3 is higher for the Int/Recs.

Probably has something to do with the need to separate out the NT, A-tier, and B-tier into 3 events when posting them online.

I would think the Ratings Committee will adjust them during their review for the next update.

sandalman
Apr 28 2006, 11:13 AM
yeah, i guess so. but it seems kinda ackward to have one pool consist of both A and B tier and to rate them seperately. i understand the need to shuffle divisions around to make everything fit on the courses, and i understand that ratings can only be compared if you playthe same course at the same time. but it seems the pdga is over-thinking this reporting thing by saying that if one player is B tier and another is A tier then their scores cannot be compared even though they played on the same course at the same time.

Apr 28 2006, 11:19 AM
I just did a tweak on the Int/Rec online course assignments. Is it any better?

tbender
Apr 28 2006, 11:38 AM
I don't think that's the case Pat.

I think the problem lies in the online calcs and the way the Am side was split into the 2 separate events. All the online calcs aren't set-up to handle this kind of split.

Like I said, I think Chuck and crew will see the reports and fix it by the next update.

ck34
Apr 28 2006, 11:46 AM
Well, you can now see how close they are on the same course at the same time with a different group of props. Looks like for the combined three rounds, the Int/Rec pool got less than 2 points per round lower ratings for the same score in the unofficial online calc. However, if they are combined in the TD report, they will all get the same official ratings.

sandalman
Apr 28 2006, 11:52 AM
i didnt see any change in the ratings after the tweak. looks the same to me at first glance.

yeah as long as the TD puts everything together by pool, it should work out forhte official ratings. no prob.

Me, too, Jason. 4 defenses and running on that #2 tag, though! :DWas funny to see Dustin pouting because I wouldn't do a playoff for the tag after we both shot -5. If I wouldn't have beat him by 8 strokes on our first round I just might have played off for it. :p

We had a re-cap of Texas States event at our club meeting last night.

Added over $5,100 to the Pro purses.

Including the players pack which went to both Pro and Amateurs some rather nice percentages were paid out to the players at Texas States this year...

Pros paid out above 200% of entry fees.
Amateurs paid out at around 220% of entry fees.

Wow! I knew that a good show was put on by HFDS this year, but I had no idea that payout reached those levels...very nice indeed. :D
