so this is the viagra message board?
Jay: what we need is a laptop that makes it out to each mini, with that and excel we could not only track and post scores but every mini could have a mass bag tag challange, and no i don't own a laptop but i would do the work even if it ment not taking my crapy game out on the course. besides that would save me from having to lug a pooper scooper around the course to celan up some of my tree mendus hill acous shots.

I agree, theis has been somthing I have biatched about for quite some time and have even joked about it.

Like will this be the 6:30 mini with signups until 6:45 and start at 7:00 or will this be the 6:00 mini with signups until 6:15 and tee off at 6:40?

As soon as the TD's, (this will ruffle some feathers) stand up and CUT OFF sign ups 15 min prior to the published start time, then nothing will change. The same players will continue to call 5 min prior to start time and say I'm on my way. Now I admit I have done this from time to time, but I ask them to go ahead and sign me up, put me on a card and if I'm late thats my problem, I'll take 7's. Thats not what the others do, they come in late, sign up late and think nothing of it.

The first time the TD's start doing this, it will make a few people very mad, but I tell you what, they will either not play or they know that a 6:00 mini means they had better have their azzz there by no later than 5:45 or they know they might as well turn around because sign ups will be closed.

Now before the TD's chime in that they just want everyone to have a chance to play and it generates more money for the club, my response is BS . What about all of the people that showed up in plenty of time and now have to wait for almost an hour because 10 or 15 people know that if they show up late, its alright, "they'll still let me sign up".

So, the majority continues be be screwed by a few and its tolerated. Thats what burns my [I'm a potty-mouth!], is the fact that is okay, we'll just start later. Well screw that.............maybe thats why I'm not a TD, but if I was you can bet your [I'm a potty-mouth!] if we start late its not because of late sign ups. :o

****, that felt good. :D

twoputtok
Aug 18 2005, 04:48 PM
a thought.....why can't the TD, when hes taking sign ups, when he has enough people for a group give them a card and send them out. Does it really matter if the divisions are mixed? That way maybe, just maybe the ones that made sure they got there on time can get their round in. Winners can worry about pay out later.

Responses?

Disclaimer: I know I was not the best at this either, but I'm going to take part in the conversation anyhow.

Dave, staggered start is a small improvement. It just means you don't have to wait to play, but it still punishes those who got there early by having to wait if you cash. I say do it like you said, cut off registrations 5-10 minutes before tee-off. If they don't like it, just quote Dave Wise, and say "ukanphuqineetmee." :D

letho
Aug 18 2005, 05:16 PM
I remember once i tried to start a little early and a little bird told me i should wait a little.

When i do run minis i try to start off as soon as i can. Don't know wish i would've gotten feedback about my start times.

I would have no problems cutting off signups even 5-10 minutes before wouldn't be that big of a deal.

plus if someone bytches just tell them to go home. TO HELL WITH THEM. You are out there volunteering your time for them. if they want to [I'm a potty-mouth!] i don't want to hear it they can go home.

just my two pennies.

twoputtok
Aug 18 2005, 05:26 PM
The only reason it goes on now is because it has in the past. This does not make it right. If you knew you had to sign up by 5:45 no ifs, ands or buts, then you would make sure you made it in time, if you wanted to play. If not, then you would know it was too late. I just want to see the majority quit being punished due to the lack of concern by a few.

I know we all have times that we run late. Shiet happens but if this was a sanctioned tourny you either make it on time or you know you will not be playing because you know they are not going to hold the start time for you.

I just think that one or more TD's need to make a stand. After a while it will be accepted as the norm....if you're late don't bother.

Now I know sometimes when there is a big ace pot, we get every ***** in town showing up to try and collect. If thats the case then the TD's need to STRESS the importance of signing up early. If the TD needs help and I'm there, just ask I'll help. I just figure its their thing and they'll ask for help if they need it.

Cool, I'm glad I'm not the only one who cares...the only reason I brought it up is because the last 2 weeks at McClure we have finished IN THE DARK...that means we wait for payouts IN THE DARK...I doubt Joyle reads the thread but I think cutoff should be 5 minutes prior to mini start time is the way to go...If people are late that sux, bigger division, bigger payout, more people, blah blah blah....I rush to the course sometimes just to make it, and it is so annoying when I'm sitting there for 20 minutes watching people pull up and sign up like it's no big deal.............................................. ...............................SCREW THAT!!!

Sorry Wayne but the problem is not an earlier start time. The problem lyes with the TD's allowing late sign ups and until that STOPS you can put what ever youwant on the schedule, like a 6:00pm sharp start time and they will still show at 6:00 knowing they can get in.

Now think about his, if those same azzzholes can show up at 6:00 for a 6:00 mini then why the he11 couldn't they get there at 6:00 for the 6:30?

Sorry but nothing will change until the TD's get some brass balls and shut out the late comers. :o

When I started playing minis I immediately noticed the lack of, shall we say promptness of start. But it has never really been a problem to the player. I would agree that eliminating the "tee time rush" would be great for TD's and help them avoid awkward situations. Besides, who the [I'm a potty-mouth!] can't show up on time? We don't have any rock stars here; we don't have any congressmen putting around in their pin stripes. We have guys who have had so show up to work on time for the last ten years. deathbypar
Aug 19 2005, 02:28 AM
One possible solution that I have seen at other clubs is to charge a late fee of $3 or whatever. That money can go to the club, ace pot, TD's gas money, or whatever you decide. This will still upset people but atleast they will have an option. You will also begin to see mini's start promptly.

twoputtok
Aug 19 2005, 09:25 AM
I'm still not sure that will do it. I still think that it comes down to Jason's suggestion, the TD's need to get a sack and cut off the sign ups, allowing him to complete the cards, get everyone to their holes and start on time. I think that 15 miniutes would be enough time.
Even with this, it would require the TD to stick to his guns and turn the late ones away.

We only started 10-15 minutes late last night but we still had to finish the last two holes in the dark. That 10-15 minutes would have put everyone finishing at dark, not in the dark.

The TD's say that it allows everyone to play, boosts the payouts and makes more money for the club. The reasons do not justify the inconvience to the majority. The only other option the players have is to either ask for your money back, if you know its going to run late and go play a casual round or boycot the mini all together.
Now, I ask, how much extra does it boost the payout or make for the club if the players are avoiding the mini due to late starts and late finishes?

and don't forget my question from yesterday....................
If they can get to a 6:00 mini at 6:00 then why the he11 can't they get to the 6:30 at 6:00 instead of still getting ther late?
Because its the same players most of the time. If the mini is at 5:00 they would get there at 5:00. It doesn't matter what time the posted start time is, they know they have always been alloWed to be late so they will continue to do so until it STOPS!

So, I ask the TD's........................................
PLEASE MAKE IT STOP.

WOW. What a thread. I was away from things for one day. Here is my opinion.... There has not been one person that I can think of that has not come right at the time of sign ups, called to say "I will be there a few minutes late", or is throwing thier whole bag full of discs to prove thier manhood. These are the things slowing up teeing off on time in the minis. Personally I am all for cutting sign ups 5-10 minutes befor the tee time, but wouldn't that also start a whole new discussion of people complaining about not being able to play? My point is, it seems like nothing we do as TDs is good enough for everyone. With day light savings being pushed out this year, we need to make some definite decisions about what we need to do to address these concerns. But please remember everyone of you can help by doing your part.

feelfroggie8

twoputtok
Aug 19 2005, 10:37 AM
I agree with most of what you said, except the fact that it starts a whole new discussion for those complaining about not getting to play. They have no basis for their complaint. How can you ligitimately complain because you can't get there on time?

I just think that, we as a club, and I mean all members should address this issue begining with a set date for the changes to begin and all TD's comform to the new rule. This way the TD can say "its not me, its the club", sorry dude, sign ups are closed.

... you may recall when I last had several "weeknighters" on schedule at Haikey ... the mini-schedule showed 5:45 (that was last Fall) ... that time kinda stood out as an eye-opener ... usually had all cards out to the Holes by 5:50 - 5:55 after scribbling a few more scorecards or "blabbing" about upcoming Events ...
.
... Barr's comments ring true , from a TD's perspective ... some players are throwing drives or pitching putts and have been at the Park for an hour or so without signing up ... you see 'em in the background playing -or- chatting with buddies by their vehicles ; yet they haven't approached you to sign up ... or some will ask "how many Adv. are there?" -or- "how many Am. are there?" -or- "can I look at your plastic?" ... I'm not airing these out as complaints ; just telling it like it is ...
.
... an afternoon/evening at the Park with your buds playing Disc-Golf is supposed to be FUN ...
.
... as is usually the case , there are guys who offer to help out with the TD ... we just need to make good use of these volunteers ... let them write up all scorecards -n- be done 10 minutes before our schedule time ... start announcing CTP's , ace-pots , upcomings , etc. about 7 to 5 minutes till start ... late arrivals/entries get put on "mixed" scorecard(s) quickly & sent to their hole ... as TD's & Players (working as a combo) , we can fix this ...
.
... Fun ... enjoy ...

Mr. Forest. Always speaking on the part of the spirit of the game. This guy has the right idea about this sport. Its like the human behavior I have had the opportunity of seeing at Dead shows. Hippies or the like are peacefully minded. They wont react well to, "You are here at 6:06 and the signup deadline was 6:00, sorry but you cant play", it's just one of those things. "Can't you read the sign?" They will be kind of mad but move on quietly. But disgruntled players are a bad thing.
Thats why the approach of TD's working with players is such a good idea. We are in it together. Let's make something happen.

The only mini's that I see on the schedule are the ones at riverside. Is this some kind of a joke.

Why aren't we playing at the courses to be used for worlds?

With all of the courses in town why is there only a mini at riverside?

Who is in charge of the schedule?

twoputtok
May 30 2006, 07:42 AM
RIght now the reason is Worlds. The TD's of the other courses are usually working in the evenings.

We only have 8 weekends left until it all begins. Mohawk still needs some touch up, 68 tee pads installed and 36 tee signs.
Hunter needs all of it's tee signs installed. Dovillio needs tees signs. McClure needs a little dirt work around the tees.
Haikey needs several baskets moved and 4 tee pads poured.

Do I need to go on? When would you suggest we do these Jake? On the one day of the week that minis weren't usually scheduled, Friday?

No one is stopping you from playing the World's courses, we just don't have the time or resourses to do it all.
Volunteers have been in short supply, when you compare the numbers to the amount of golfers in town that were all excited about Worlds. Now where are they?
We have about 20 people that volunteer on a consistant basis and they are also the ones that run minis.

So what would be your suggestion?

Because Riverside has the highest number of casual golfers that play in minis. Most of them only play that course or Chandler. These are people that would never volunteer and they won't be playing worlds. Riverside is a funds generator for the club.Maybe not the answers you're looking for but that's the way it is.

If you absolutely have to play tonight Pardons are available!!!! .....If you show up at Mohawk tomorrow and guard tee pads or help pour tee pads for a minimum of 4 hours.

Any woman that shows up in a bikini tomorrow and guards tee pads for 4 hours will get $20 plus tips, free drinks, free misting, and their own Fur-bana-boy to rub sun screen on their back. :) .....Max number of bikini babes paid will be 18. A week ago I was approached by Denise Cleland. Evidently she is having a fundraiser mini on Thursday June 21st and 22nd at 4pm at Chandler Park. She and her husband live near Dovillo and play mostly casual rounds. They have invited their friends (mostly friends, people they work with, and people that dont play that often) out in an effort to raise money for Jeanie Baker Douglas. This girl is in her early twentys and is in need of a heart & lung transplant.

Denise basically asked if this would conflict with the TDSA mini at 6pm and I told it wouldnt and that we could share the shelter. She said that she was planning on cooking some hamburgers for her group and that her group may be interested in playing in the TDSA mini. She said anyone of our group that would be willing to make a donation in return for a a hamburger or such would be welcome. I told her I didnt know how many would but Im sure some might.

Sounds like most of the people in her group might not have ever played before so this might be a good opportunity to expose organized DG to some newbees and donate to a young woman in need. Im not looking to take people away from working but I could use a few ideas on set up and possibly a slightly altered format for those of her group that play.

Ace Pot Value for next Thursday will be $ 142.00 furbucks. It will be the last mini at Chandler at least until after Worlds. So if you dont hit the big one at McClure next Tuesday then you might be able to pick up a consolation prize on the mountain. :)

Special Notes:

Due to the flooding of local streets, getting down Riverside and across the 21st street bridge was a major hassle and I apoligize for getting there late. I also apoligize for not getting the results in the paper. I had some technical difficulties. :(

On a Positive Note:

Denise Cleland and her group ran a charity event to raise money for Jeanie Baker Douglas who is in need of a heart / lung transplant. Looks like a lot of the people that were waiting for me decided to go ahead and play in her mini. Thanks to all of you that played and donated money. If you didnt get one of those hamburgers then you definitely missed out. From what I hear a lot of money was raised for Jeanie. Lets all pray that everything turns out well for her.

Thanks again to everyone that came out.

Michael Strahan's divorce trial gets real ugly

By AUSTIN FENNER and DAVE GOLDINER
DAILY NEWS STAFF WRITERS

New York Giants sack king Michael Strahan grimaces in the stand yesterday during his nasty divorce case with estranged wife, Jean.
Jean Strahan
Michael Strahan's nasty divorce trial hit a new low yesterday - as his estranged wife suggested the Giants sack king and handsome married TV doctor Ian Smith are more than just friends.

After the couple's marriage collapsed, "Michael moved into Ian's one-bedroom apartment," Jean Strahan told reporters after another bruising day in divorce court.

"And you can say an alternative lifestyle sprouted," she added, though her lawyer stopped her before she could elaborate.

The blond mother of two dropped the bombshell after the burly gridiron great made her cry in court when he testified that he couldn't remember her birthday.

"He basically denied we ever existed," Jean Strahan, 41, said angrily. "It was devastating to hear."

Michael Strahan himself hinted at some controversy when he said in court that he wasn't sure whether one of his love letters was addressed to "Jean" or "John."

"I've been accused ..." Strahan, 34, quipped on the witness stand before cutting himself off in midsentence and flashing his gap-toothed smile.

Strahan's lawyer rejected any hint that there's anything more than a friendship between his client and Smith.

"It sounds like sour grapes by someone who doesn't like what's going on in the court," said attorney Robert Penza.

Ian Smith derided Jean Strahan's comments as "absolutely ridiculous."

"This is laughable," said Smith, a best-selling author and medical correspondent for ABC's "The View." "I am a very happily married man."

Later, Jean Strahan's lawyer tried to back away a bit.

"I don't think she's making a definitive allegation," said Ellen Marshall, the lawyer. "Couples have private squabbles. This is one of them."

Smith's name has come up several times in the bitter Strahan vs. Strahan divorce case, which seems to get uglier by the day - rife with allegations of infidelity and arguments over who's the bigger spender.

Jean Strahan said she was miffed when her husband brought Smith into the hospital room when she gave birth to twin girls in 2004.

She also charged that Smith hooked Strahan up with extramarital affairs with women in Los Angeles and Toronto - claims the NFL star has repeatedly denied.

When things really got ugly last year, Smith put Strahan up at his upper East Side pad after the athlete's marriage imploded.

The doctor insisted he was simply doing what anyone would do for a friend in need.

"Michael Strahan is one of my best friends and needed a place to stay after he was kicked out of his own home," Smith said. "I let him sleep on my couch as any best friend would do."

Smith, 36, wed his longtime girlfriend, high-powered Chicago lawyer Triste Lieteau, last year in a glittering candlelit ceremony at the Rainbow Room.

Even before Jean Strahan's explosive comments, things were already testy as the Strahans sparred over their big-bucks divorce in Essex County Family Court in Newark.

Her lawyer, Marshall, unveiled a string of sticky-sweet love letters in an effort to debunk Michael Strahan's claim that his wife abandoned their marriage.

"It's my first day of camp, I already miss you," Strahan wrote from Giants training camp in 2004.

In another letter, the 275-pound defensive tackle wrote the words "I love you" over and over - 24 times in all.

"Thanks for taking care of me," he wrote to her after an injury. "I promise to always take care of you."

Jean Strahan kept hundreds of gooey love letters to document their romance.

But she burst into tears when Strahan, sitting just 6 feet away, said he didn't know why one was dated March 22. It turns out that is her birthday.

He also said he didn't remember several cards, including one created from the ultrasound image of their twins during her pregnancy.

"I compiled them all because it's the only history of our love," Jean Strahan said. "That's going to be the only history of us together."

So I'm at the Vet Clinic with Frankers last night and I get a call from Kevin. He informed me that my wish of becoming the Course TD of Mohawk Disc Golf Complex has become a reality.

I'm pumped!

In the past I have been offered course TD duties at other courses, but I thought I would wait for the right opportunity to commit myself to it. Boy oh boy am I glad I did cuz now I've got the gem of Oklahoma Disc Golf!!

You can expect Thursday minis at Mohawk starting in July! We will start with RedHawk the first week and then I will get WhiteHawk rolling the next week. Probably flip flop the two week by week!!
