So you're saying that none of the $15 for the bag tags are going into the club?
Even I took out the standard weekend TDSA charge of $2 per person for the "All CTP" weekend at Chandler.
I thought raising money for the club was one of the reasons for selling bag tags in the first place. :(
Maybe we would be better off setting up lemonaide stands to raise funds for club functions then.
twoputtok
Nov 12 2007, 11:57 AM
The first three years I did tags, I donated $500 back to the club each year. I charged $10 entry the last year to raise the payout for tag owners that were in the match play.
Even with the extra $10 entry, I still usually went in the hole around $250 with the CTPS, beer and trophies.
I'm not sure how Dan is doing it, not sure where all the $15 for tags went. Maybe they paid for one or both of Justin's fenders. :D It doesn't matter, Dan was willing to step in and handle bag tags this year and I thank him for it. ;)
I just didn't want to do it myself. With time, I'm becoming more and more like you, I don't want to do anything I just want to gripe about it. :o

Nov 12 2007, 01:05 PM
I don't know if I would go that far.
I think that tags and minis support each other. Some players come to the mini for the tag match some come for the mini. While I am known for watching the bottom line "Whats in it for the club?" I think the tags just bring more to the members as a benefit of playing in club events. Dan is a member in good standing, that has taken his time and his money to run this. I don't remember the club putting anything into it.
The club does need to make money but I don't feel it should be at every event. What about charity events?
Do you think the club should be taking a cut of their action also?
Birdie
Nov 12 2007, 01:08 PM
Great emotional argument Dave.
And most would agree that the bottom line is no.
But in principle they should...but not a sizable one.
We need to start thinking about how events benefit the club with the NT going now....

I purchased a tag with the premise that the funds raised would go to the club. Now your telling me that Dan can do whatever he wants with the money?
I trust Dan's judgement, he is an honest man.
It would be nice to know where the money is going.
m_conners
Nov 12 2007, 03:10 PM
I'm pretty sure Dan is putting all funds generated from bag tags into the payout. Obviously he needs to be reimbursed for the leather tags and rings he bought but the majority of the money should be in the payout. I think 1st through 4th get paid.
twoputtok
Nov 12 2007, 03:34 PM
It doesn't matter where the money is going. You bought a tag so that you could drop bombs on other players. Plus it gets you into the match play format.
You might be more understanding if you had to take the time to design them, get them made, pay for them to be made, sell them, collect for them, listen to complaints and run the match play. Its a lot more than you think.
You know me Jake, I always ask where the money went but in this istance, it's Dan's tag challenge, it's Dan's match play and if you win it then some of it will be your money then.
There is no conspiracy here.
Buy a tag
Don't buy a tag
Play in the match play
Don't play in the match play
It doesn't matter.
Just what do you want for your $15?
You've probably had at least 50 match challenges.
That works out to about .30 per match, its just not that much to worry about.
You know Dan as well as I do......has he ever done you are any one else wrong that you know of? ;)

The first time I showed up at Mac Tayor he threw a 90 degree shank during a CTP throwoff into the parking lot and skipped it across the hood of my new truck which was about 200 ft at a right angle to where he was throwing to. :(

And more importantly for your suggestions!/msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
Any particular reason you disagree, or are you just post happy?:o
We care for the courses to a point.
We are the only organization who consistently organizes competition on them.
We are the people who support and promote them.
I say we have some say in who gets to run tournaments there.
I remember I was driving to Arkansas with a buddy and we talked about this. And if I remember right, he would agree with me.
Obviously a "Charity" event would not have to give a huge chunk, but come on.....$1 a player minimum?
Getting money for the NT needs to be first in our minds. And silly negative posts will not get anything done, especially those that do not even offer suggestions or other input....
twoputtok
Nov 12 2007, 04:19 PM
I just don't think that ALL events should have to give to the club. I do agree about the club having a say in who runs what courses for the minis though. One item you forgot about when mentioning the club maintaning the course is, we also pay for any stolen baskets. The city or county has never offered to replace any stolen equipment.
As it is now, the majority of competitive players in town support the club on a regular basis.
The one suggestion that I have is to find a way to tap into a small percentage of the gate at Mohawk.
How is it that the Zoo friends receive all of the money for parking 8 months out of the year. Not everyone driving through that gate is going to the zoo. I also haven't see the zoo do anything for that park out side of their gates. We haven't been given the credit for removing some of the illegal activity that had been going on out there in the past but just ask Security about it.
We have become an asset for the park. We have provided new areas for people, horses and others to use, that were not usuable in the past. We have provided untold thousands of dollars in volunteer man hours, to clear and maintain the areas. We paid for and built a bridge that can be accessed by the local fisherman, wakers and disc golfers. With all of this we have done, what have we received since worlds?
Nothing, that right, nothing. We continue to provide a service and receive nothing for it. I'm not talking about thousands of dollars that we need. But we could use several good park benches and some trash cans. Is this TOO much to ask from the parks, or should I say Zoo?
sschumacher
Nov 12 2007, 04:21 PM
It's a public park. Anybody can run an event there so you will not be able to control it nor should you try. You already have Coberly gang doing mini's without the TDSA. You going to try and clamp down on them?
There's nothing wrong with a bunch a beer drinkers who play about the same getting together for a little DG outside the TDSA. Why let a baggin advanced to pro player in? They support both themselves and the TDSA. If they want to throw something back to the TDSA for advertising then that is a good thing.
If they are a TDSA member then they should have a right to do so without a donation if they want as long as they're not double-dating someone elses event.
You want to raise some money for the NT?.....Run a tournament and then donate all your profits to the TDSA. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Okay Red you know I love you right? :D My "bad idea" post was not mean to be negative, Charity events are the only tournaments in town that are not giving up funds to the TDSA and that should never change. Every other tournament held in Tulsa is backed by the TDSA and making some kind of profit from it. It would be in poor taste for the TDSA to try and make money off a Charity event. Your "idea" of making money on all tournaments is already happening. When you said "ALL TOURNAMENTS RUN ON TULSA COURSES SHOULD GIVE TDSA A CUT" is a very selfish statement. The ideal thing for you to do is come up with a more constructive idea in order to generate funds. On another note, I voted for you as an admin and it's good to see you trying to come up with money making ideas. Keep up the good work.
Also, later this winter I plan on making Baskets and Bowling an NT fundraiser...an original idea that will make a couple hundred bucks for the Green Country Classic in one day. Personally I would like to see the funds generated from B&B go directly to the Open Womens payout. But Joe can do what he wants with it. I am also working on one other idea that will help make some mo money for the NT! You see Red, you don't have to be an admin to contribute to the club...i've been doing it for years.

I don't think the zoo is going to cut DG'ers in for a percentage of the gate. They're getting ready to raise their zoo admission rates as it is. As far as the gate charge I think they only do that on the weekends for those eight months but I may be mistaken.
A few benches would be nice. As far as trash cans I don't think they are going to put trash cans in places on the course that won't be normally serviced.
I think if you become a Zoo friend then free parking and zoo admission is included. That might be a way to go if you play out there a lot during the pay to enter months.

Yeah do that...
And give them more money and STILL receive nothing in return.
Not saying Zoofriends is bad, and yeah it will save you some money if you are out there on the weekends during the paying season, but recommending that as an alternative to getting a cut from the gate?
Do you understand what Wise was saying?
He wants to see a little something back.
He wants to see some benches out there, and trashcans on the course.
He wants to make that park better with the money that we are (during the pay period) already giving them.

Nov 12 2007, 06:08 PM
Yeah.....You're both right. They are making boo-coo dollars off of us. In return now they've got people littering in the woods, not just the pond, and they've got to pay people to mow places that never required mowing before.
And we deserve a piece of the gate for that?....I already mentioned the benches but how much should the parks department kick back to the fishermen and the people that go to the nature center?...Maybe the parks department can provide some pumps on the course to pump all the water out during the rainy season? :)
As far as the bridge?...What until it fails and see some lame lawyer show up and try to sue the TDSA for faulty construction. :(
What type of "Silver-Spoon" planet did you guys come from?
I'm not saying I wouldn't like more benches but expecting a cut from the gate? Get real. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

We deserve a cut, as does the oxly nature center, which they may already be receiving a cut of the gate.
What I was trying to say is who decides that the Zoo gets 100% of the gate? I'm not saying we should get a huge chunk but lets say just even a dime per car. At least until the course is finished and funded the way it was promised. That would only be 5%. We were granted a much larger amount than we received, thanks to the 2025 catastrophie.
At 10 cents per car we could raise enough money for benches in 1 to 2 years, if not sooner. I'm unsure on the actual count of paid traffic through there but I would love to see the numbers on it. I'd bet its a lot more than most people think.
I would propose this as a funding mechanisim for as long as it takes to fund the rest of the needed equipment for the course. Including trash cans. I would be willing to service them once a month, as would Wagel or several others that call BlackHawk home, just to have them in there. ;)
Hey FurDog, why don't you spend half as much time trying to come up with an idea that will help instead trying to find something wrong with any idea that doesn't conern your precious little ant hill of a mountain. :o

Nov 13 2007, 10:06 AM
Did you just volunteer to be the trash man at Mohawk? Cool.
Here are some ideas for you.
If we were supposed to get more money for the course and we didnt then who ever negotiated the deal, you, Zooc, or whoever should find out what the deal is. I think it would be nice to get a cut of the gate but I dont think they are going to do that since they are raising the Zoo admission. Sorry buddy but the animals come first. On top of that waiting one or two years collecting 10 cents per car seems unnecessary when we could probably raise the funds quicker though club events.
What if the TDSA had a membership card that we could show at the gate and for every two dollars we pay to get in, one dollar goes to the course fund. Maybe we could bring in more members or at least get more of them to renew. Yeah, thats the same thing your talking about but how are they going to know who is there for DG without some type of club ID. The Zoo Friends have stickers on their cars to get through the gate. What could we have that would identify us?
It sounds like you want to take a dime off of every car that goes though the gate and thats not right because there are way too many people coming though there that isnt interested in DG. Why should they have to support the course?
Another idea would be to run an event to raise money for what is needed. Sell mulligans like Wayne does. I already told you I would co-td with you if we donate all the profits. Why are you running away from that idea? :(
If not that then why dont you take some of the big bucks youve been winning and buy some quality trash cans with lids so when the water rises and they start to float, the trash doesnt spill all over the ground. If you want we can even put your name on them as the "can" donor.
Ive got plenty of ideas buddy. Youre just not listening. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Wise is correct, we received far less of the vision 2025 money than what was allocated to the Mohawk disc golf project and other projects (whatever they might be) sucked off the rest. (the money is gone, bye bye we will never see it etc.) As always when dealing with political issues and government departments if you do not spend it all at the first whack you do not get it. (not like baseball where you get 3 swings before you take a seat)
There will never be an equitable deal in the offing so we might as well just moveon.org it.
After all even McClure cut off funding for the 00 this year after having reduced it each year for the past few and at a time when they had the largest account balance in history.
It is not a lack of money but a lack of respect for our sport and our players, good luck on fixing that unless you can figure out a way to stick our people on some park boards and get them to show up at the meetings!

Well ok then let's move to plan B and just procure some trash cans down at Riverside. It's not like we would be stealing them. We would just be re-locating them to a place where they could provide better service to the general public. :)

<font color="red"> </font> Not to correct you..... but... to correct you. we have been given several benches, and the CITY has replaced several baskets throughout my tenure. I know of at least two at McClure. I agree with the rest Wise one. :D

dont bring the mcclure lack of money into the 2025 thing. they did not ask in time for money and give enough reasons to why they needed the money. also, it could have been a callin vote by the council to gwt a last minute approval of SOME kind of money. I wont name names, becasue I dont know who all is in the council, but I used to buy pop for the machine, change the signs at least monthly, and help with coucil events. I think some may have thought we have enough $$ for the supertour and did not pursue furrhter. I understand as well. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Near Detroit there is a DG complex just like mohawk. They have 2 courses right next to each other. The city gave the DG club access to one of their garages on site. The club bought a golf cart and they keep it housed in that garage. Here is the deal; the city allowed the DG'ers to keep the cart in there garage as long as the dg'ers used the cart to empty all trash cans on the course. Nobody in Tulsa is going to empty trash cans at Blackhawk, we will have to find a way to do it ourselves. I have no problem talking to mohawk maintenance about housing a golf cart on site. Maybe we can revisit this after the NT next year.
FYI: Me and Wagle plan on making benches for the majority of holes at BlackHawk.
twoputtok
Nov 13 2007, 02:12 PM
Well I only personally know of 3 benches that were provided and I'm not sure the parks department even know about those. :o
As for the city replacing baskets, that was before my time. Since I have been involved in the club they have replaced nothing.
I would just like to see Mohawk brought up to speed with the equipment that is needed. I know we are going to build some benches, but here we are again. Giving to the parks department, our labor and materials.
I know they provide the land but I still say we aren't given the credit we deserve for the money and labor we put into the system and the money that is spent in the local economy when we host tournaments.
Zooc, I noticed you didn't address the fact that the Zoo retains 100% of the gate money for their use and they have done nothing for the park out side of their gates.
Does this park belong to the public or the Tulsa Zoo?
Please give us your opinion on this issue.

I think a dime out of every $2 at the gate is absolutetly fair. There is a certain element of casual disc golfers who think it's fun to deface our courses; Hunter, McClure, Chandler, Haikey, Dovillio and The Hawks have all experienced vandalism in the past year. Who get's stuck repairing and cleaning up after these people? FRIKIN WE DO! I think it's fair to at least ask for a percentage of the gate admission. He111 man they still owe us money from the OO when they charged 50 cars $2 to get in!!!!
Odds are we will continue to do this on our own, the city can barely afford to mow grass and keep the pools open.
Hey Wise, are those soccer field benches still available over by Hilti?
twoputtok
Nov 13 2007, 02:47 PM
Not sure about those, I haven't been over there. The soccer club no longer uses the facility and they were supposed to start construction. You may want to take a drive by and see if they have done anything.
Jerry Stacy said he would go by and get them, I had to leave town that weekend but I don't think he got over there.
Those benches would work, but I'm talking about the nice green ones like we have out there now but with one on every hole. The green ones seem to be the type that no one wants to steal or screw with.
m_conners
Nov 13 2007, 03:23 PM
Yeah the green ones are nice. But me and Wagle want benches on the majority of teeboxes before the NT. With 3 rounds going on out there a place to sit would be ideal.
I'll drive by Hilti sometime today. What soccer club was using the fields in case someone asks what I'm doing.
