I will do my best to keep the online community informed.

We can't sell regular inventory at the event as we do not want to compete with our sponsor, Lifetime Sports. They will have a lot of great discs available for the players to purchase.

Come on by anytime after 10:00 or so.

i just figure with the great stroh and his wireless usb goodies that he might be able to help with scoring and thereby accomplish the scores being online at the end of the day...

Has anyone sent the Ventura Open scores to the PDGA yet?

I don't know the TD, to ask him, but the Socal website has results posted already, so I would think they should have been sent.

This event isn't on the PDGA report of "missing" results - are they just being slow in posting them then?

Anyone?

It looks like they didn't use the PDGA On-Line Scoring tool to upload the scores after the event. It hasn't been 30 days since the tournament, so the TD Report can't be late yet. If they sent the TD Report in but didn't post the results, they won't show up until the PDGA processes the report.

Will the 2 meter rule be in effect for the SoCal Championship?
Are there any plans to upgrade any of the SoCal tournaments to A-Tier status next year?

There are players packs for everyone.

The two meter rule is not in effect.
The Championships will remain a B-tier event with the payout of an A.

I see Ice Bowl in Paradise is going to be SCDG/PDGA, and @ Whittier, which hasn't had an event for several years - do you know any details about how DISC pulled it off? Has the 'Parks' situation there shown changes; etc.

discette
Nov 25 2005, 10:13 AM
Slo -

The parks department in Whittier is anxious to bring back disc golfers. Big Arm Ted was finally able to get permission for leagues/sales this summer and the parks department has been very cooperative. Cliff called me and said he would not be able to host the Ice Bowl at Chavez Ravine (Elysian Field). I suggested he try Whittier. I am glad it worked out for the event. They must have eased up on the massive fee requirements or Cliff would not have hosted the event there.

While the parks department has been very friendly and cooperative with the disc golf community, local law enforcement have become very diligent. Two weeks ago, the police did a massive sweep through the park and issued many citations for alcohol and possession. Even law abiding golfers were netted and forced to wait "in custody" for an hour or so while police issued the citations.

Wow, it looks like parity visits the team tourney again.

I predict a three horse race between SD, LM, & RE. (LaMirada is doing some funky things with their order... flopping mark and bobby?)

When I go through the orders of those teams and try to predict win/loss matches... they come out 6-6. This could easily come down to points (again) to make the finals.

2 FPO
1 FPM
2 FW1

8 MPO
8 MPM
2 MPG (?)
1 MP2 (?)

6 MA1
2 MM1
4 MA2

I don't know if that's exactly the breakdown from the flyer, but it's close. You should be able to guess from the SoCal Points standings (total points) to see who gets the initial invites.

One FPM and two MM1s seem to have been added to the mix this year, after adding the 2 FW1s last year.

Dave -

I don't like anonymous posters. However, the better question might be, do I agree with the new policy that allows posts by members only. I have mixed emotions about that. As long as they are not anonymous, I think non PDGA members should have the opportunity to post, especially in formus like this. That being said, Grunion posted to every single Affiliate Club thread prior to being dismissed from the board, so a continued ban on non-members might be a good idea.

Anyone who truly wants to post that knows a current PDGA member, can have that member set up a user name and ID that they can use. So the argument that we are losing valuable posters is weak.

The new So Cal webmaster received the information late Monday. I think it takes some time and effort to input all the data. He may need time to get used to the current format, or perhaps he is creating a new one.

Daniel -

You will be able to see the Ventura round ratings after the next ratings update on or about December 20th. Unofficial round ratings only show on the PDGA site for a short while after an event. That information is removed while the ratings are officially recalculated. Please note round ratings are not available for any event older than one week and held since the last ratings update.

Second, the new site ROCKS! wow! amazing!! I have a question though. If, for example, Eldo on 3/11 and 3/12 is a pro/am tourney, will the pro day be 3/11 and the am day 3/12 OR are both divisions playing both days?

Hey Michelle - Thanks for the kind words. As much as I would like to take credit for the awesome new website, that was due to the hard work of Michael McNamara, So Cal's new Communications Director.

Steve Loken aka: Plasticpilot, (formerly known as Slo) will need to answer that question definitively. However, last year everyone played three rounds over both days. It was a nice format with the Pros playing two rounds early on Saturday and the Ams playing one round Saturday afternoon. Then the Ams played two rounds on Sunday, with the Pros playing the final round Sunday afternoon. Many players liked Steve's format, so he might consider doing it again.

You can now renew or join So Cal online. You can also purchase So Cal merchandise at our new online store.

We have also started a new Yahoo Group. It will supplement this message board and our website as a way for members to keep in touch. The information on how to join in the new egroup is on the front page. Also, new this year, So Cal members will receive a So Cal email address.

We are still in the process of updating some of the information that we transferred over from the old site, so keep checking back.

Let us know if you have any ideas for improvements. Please send an email to our new webmaster, Michael McNamara if you see any errors.

Uh-oh. I used Eldo as an example. Will every tournament be run differently? The reason I ask is my volunteer work in '06 is mostly on Saturdays but only one day. If these tourneys are going to be all mixed up (schedule wise) by each TD, that could become a calendaring problem. :( :(

discette
Feb 07 2006, 12:05 PM
Huntington Beach is no longer a So Cal event. PDGA santioning is one of the few requirements to be a So Cal event. The organizers knew this when they were in the process of making the decision.

HB decided against PDGA sanctioning because they did not want to change entry fees to meet the new PDGA entry fee requirements.

I wish the organizers a successful event and hope they will re-join the series next year.

Membership fulfillment packages will be handed out at So Cal events beginning with the Ice Bowl in January.

Any So Cal member can pick up their fulfillment items before ANY So Cal event through April(Not sure about Evergreen, yet). It would be most excellent if members could remember to pick up the items before the round. Otherwise, folks will have to take a chance at being able to find me during the lunch break. If I know a player wants to pick up items, I can make sure they will be available at tournament central. It is ok to have any other player pick up your items for you as well (I make a note who picked them up).

Just a reminder: there are two tourney centrals at ElDo. Pros need to go to the Pro course to get their goodies.

Is the Crescenta Valley Safari a B tier or a D tier? It's listed as a D-Tier on the SoCal and PDGA sites, but it violates a few tier requirements for D-tiers and is also much more in line with a B-tier entry-fee wise. I am assuming it's really a b-tier but would like to know for sure.

Tim confirms Crescenta Valley is a PDGA D-Tier. I think the main reason it is a D-Tier event is because this is a "new" course and the event is being held at the request of LA County Parks.

The Year End Banquet, So Cal Series Awards, full membership meeting and elections will be held at Riverside Golf Club again this year. The permanent Disc Golf Course has been removed, but we are renting the entire facility on Sunday, December 14. We will be setting up a temporary 18 hole course and hosting a "fun" tourney before the banquet.

We just finalized all the details with Riverside Golf Club this past Tuesday. Tim Selinske has designed a 7300 foot Course for the event. Entry fee will include green's fees, cart rental (for first 80 registered) and the banquet.

The entry form should be available on the So Cal site in a day or so.

David Hadder and other volunteers have been working on a new So Cal Series Points system for 2009.

Below is a summary of the current rules and the proposed changes.

Points are awarded on the following basis:

# You must be a Registered member of SoCal prior to the start of an event to be awarded points
# Participation Points: 5 points per round except for the final 9

PROPOSED CHANGE--
5 POINTS FOR EVERY 18 HOLES COMPLETED (EXCLUDING FINAL 9 AND ANY OVERTIME PLAYOFFS). THIS CHANGE BRINGS TOURNAMENTS AT SANTA MARIA AND WRIGHTWOOD (27-HOLE LAYOUTS) TO SAME LEVEL OF POINTS AWARDED FOR HOLES PLAYED.
EXAMPLE 2 RDS OF 27 OR 3 RDS OF 18 = 15 POINTS

# Performance Points: 1 point for each person in your division that you beat or tie

PROPOSED ADDTION
1 EXTRA PERFORMANCE POINT FOR FIRST PLACE TOURNAMENT VICTORY WITHIN DIVISION.

# Bonus Points: Players in the So. Cal Championships will receive one bonus point for every So. Cal Series event they completed in 2007, including the Championships.

PROPOSED CHANGE

PLAYERS IN THE SOCAL CHAMPIONSHIPS WILL RECEIVE ONE BONUS POINT FOR EVERY SOCAL SERIES EVENT THEY COMPLETED IN 2009 (THE CURRENT YEAR OF PLAY, NOT THE PREVIOUS SEASONS RESULTS)WITH A MAXIMUM AWARD OF 10 POINTS EVEN IF YOU PLAY IN MORE THAN 10 TOURNAMENTS.

# Championship: Bonus points will only be awarded at the So. Cal Championships.
# There will be no double points for the So. Cal Championships.
# DNF: You will receive ZERO points for the entire tournament if you do not finish every required round of the tournament

PROPOSED ADDITION

TIEBREAKERS FOR FINAL STANDINGS
#1 SERIES POINTS
#2 MOST TOURNAMENTS PLAYED (THIS KEEPS A PREMIUM ON PLAYING AS MANY SOCAL SERIES EVENTS IN A CALENDAR YEAR)
#3 TOTAL SERIES POINTS FOR THE SEASON
#4 HEAD TO HEAD RESULTS

Series Champions are determined as follows:

# Pro Divisions: Your best five finishes in a division are used to determine the champion. Highest number of points is the winner.
# Am Divisions: Your best four finishes in a division are used to determine the champion. Highest number of points is the winner.
# Top Finishers will receive awards

If you have any comments or suggestions, you can post them here or email Dave at boomshadowATaolDOTcom

To register online as a member of ANY affiliate club, go to the Pro Shop (from PDGA HQ dropdown).

Click on "Affiliate Clubs" on the left.

Then click "2009 Affiliate Club Memberships".

Then choose on "new" or "renewal".

You will need the PDGA password from your current member card to activate the "auto fill" function. If you do not have your password, or you are a new member, simply input the required information manually.

When you are completing your electronic application, select So Cal DGA (or your club) from the Affiliate Club drop down box to activate the $5.00 discount.

Please be advised there will be a $3.00 handling fee for not renewing directly "through" your club in a "batch". You technically still get the $5.00 discount, but since you are not part of "batch" processing, the handling fee reduces your ACP discount to only $2.00.

D,
What kind of cool stuff can I expect for a players package at the NorCal/SoCal battle of the water bucket?

Hi Discette,

Will you be at the Palm Desert Ice Bowl this Saturday? If yes, could you bring along SoCal renewal packets for AJ and I?

Thanks!!!!
