I know it should be sanctioned for Ams, but I can not answer with authority until I hear back from the TD. Perhaps Bob submitted the paperwork incorrectly. Again, I am waiting to hear from the TD.

The PDGA Tour Director has said results will be inputted soon and will hopefully be included in the September Ratings Update.

Related to Waller, is there a way to enforce a final 9 if it was clearly stated on the flyer that there would be one? 4 strokes with 9 holes to go is not impossible, I just wish I would have had a chance to try.

As Rhett said, darkness was approaching. TD's do like to provide what is promised on flyers, but sometimes circumstances beyond their control cause things to change. Birdie Bob had a volunteer lined up to assist him with the event. His volunteer failed to show up on the day of the event without any notice and Bob was forced to go it alone. This is the main reason the event started late, and why the final nine did not take place.

Bob has said he would like to host Waller Pines again next year, and has even set separate dates for Pro and Am weekends. However, he has also said he may not do it because he recieved so many negative comments this year. He wonders if it is even worth it to dedicate so much time and have so few players thank him. Bob is practically the only promoter in the Santa Maria area, and if he decides not to run the event next year, it may not happen at all. Bob probably could have done some things much better, including more timely reporting to So Cal and the PDGA, but that is a fraction of what it takes to put on a successful event. Bob put in countless hours scheduling this event with a non-cooperative parks department, did all the fundraising and the course preparation.

If you would like to thank Bob for all he sacrificed to make this event a reality, here is his email address: Aimnfrthchain@aol.com

I got there 2 hours early and set up 18 tee signs on a course that I had never been to, I helped him organize the score cards, I helped set-up the tournament central tent, I unpacked the equipment, and most of all I THANKED HIM AFTERWARD and offered to help with the online submission of the results.

It seems to me that some of the local players should have helped with this. If I were him I wouldn't want to run the event next year either.

Sep 08 2005, 02:33 PM
I personally don't care why things didn't turn out the way they were intended. The issue for me is that they didn't.

If Bob isn't up for the task, and no one wants to take his place, Waller shouldn't even make the schedule next year (lest we have another last minute cancel on the socal schedule).

That said, there are people willing to help, but we need to be made aware of the need.

Ryan - I am sorry you are upset about having two events cancelled, but these were hardly last minute cancellations.

The So Cal schedule was set in November of 2004. We could not forsee that the Mountain High course would not be installed on the mountain. I did try to reschedule Wrightwood by trying to have the course installed for one weekend only, but I was turned down by the new owners.

We had no way of knowing in November that the TDs (that volunteered to bring Summertime Open back to the So Cal schedule for the first time since 2001) would not be able to host the event afterall. They did an awesome job of refurbishing the Sylmar course and did not have the time nor resources left to raise proper sponsorship for the event. Bamba also welcomed a new baby to his family this summer.

Please don't forget that Fling IX was added to the So Cal schedule during the year. Also, So Cal still offered 13 events this year, an increase of four PDGA events over 2003 and 2004.

i had asked to not have you on my card several weeks before the event as to not hear you complain about playing "in the park" like i had to at golden state all round long...
but mark horn sets the cards and tim didn't see it before they were put on the boards....
i saw it and asked to change it...

and i'll be at every big so-cal event like i have the last 4 years...so if you don't like it...

Dicette,

Can you think of any way to let a 917 rated player play intermediate at the SoCal championships? I have played INT. at all tournaments during the year and would like to finish the year playing against the guys I have competed with all year. People can call me a bagger if they want however I am not trying to play other tournaments in a lower division, just this one. This tournament is the culmination of a series and I would like to see it through in the same division is all.

Patrick -

So Cal has recieved a waiver from the PDGA regarding this issue. The waiver allows Intermediate and Recreational players that have played in these divisions throughout the So Cal Series to remain in these divisions. This means that if a player's rating has risen above 915 for Intermediate and 875 for Recreational, they may still compete in these divisions for the last two events in the So Cal Series: Ventura and the So Cal Championships.

discette:
should rhett still be allowed to post on socal threads when he is selling discs other than INNOVA?

Keith - I thought this was a question designed to get a rise out of Rhett and not elicit an actual answer from me.

However, since you insist: I do not moderate the So Cal threads. If I did,I would not ban someone from posting here simply because they choose to sell or throw discraft. Besides, if it were not for Rhett there would be no So Cal Disc Golf Association and therefore no So Cal thread on here.

Why is it that SoCal member Jeff Kennedy from Nevada is pre-registered for the SoCal Championships, but Wannabe-Be president Keith Johnson isn't signed up?

Because Wanna-Be So Cal President, Keith Johnson is retiring from disc golf this Sunday. Since he will be retired, he is not eligible to compete in the Championships.

However, Keith is still going to be a sponsor of the So Cal Championships. I thank him for his generous contributions to the sport of disc golf over the past years. He will be missed as a competitor and an organizer. He has still threatened to stay on the message board.

However, since you insist: I do not moderate the So Cal threads. If I did,I would not ban someone from posting here simply because they choose to sell or throw discraft. Besides, if it were not for Rhett there would be no So Cal Disc Golf Association and therefore no So Cal thread on here.

How quickly they forget.

if it weren't for rhett???
i didn't know he was THAT old
i was under the impression that socal disc golf existed before rhett...we know (thanks to you)that it exists after rhett....and yes we ALL(except a couple of people probably)

Dear Discette,

Q1: Have you received any self-nominations for SoCal BOD positions yet? Are the current nominees posted on the SoCal site anywhere?

Q2: The SoCal Points page states the following: "In addition to bragging rights, the champions in the larger divisions earn a very special Series Champion trophy.." Can you define the term "larger divisions"? Or better yet, can you list the divisions that will have trophies for the Series Champions?

Q1: The current BOD are the only ones expressing an interest in any positions. Only one other person has expressed an interest in helping the BOD. They will either be helping Tom or taking over as Communitcations Director. They have not actually committed yet, so we can't put there info on the site. If there is only one person interested in each position, can they really be considered nominees?

Q2: I can't answer fully at this point. However, the Open, Advanced, Intermediate and Recreational are the largest divisions by far. Unlike years past, there will be a nice payout to all the top finishers. I think all divisions will have a trophy, some nicer than others.

Absolutely! Listing the current nominees in real time has, IMNSHO, many potential benefits. If positions are empty, there is the chance that someone sitting on the fence might step up because they can perceive the need for them. Also, if they see that there is only one nominee for a position and that person is not desirable to them, they might feel that it is their duty to step up.

Q2: I can't answer fully at this point. However, the Open, Advanced, Intermediate and Recreational are the largest divisions by far. Unlike years past, there will be a nice payout to all the top finishers. I think all divisions will have a trophy, some nicer than others.

For what it's worth, I personally think that all Series Champion trophies should be the same. Otherwise you are valuing certain divisions over others. Plus, the Pro Master Mens division in the points standings is far larger than the Rec Mens division. And don't forget those Advanced Masters either. They are the same size as the Rec division! :)

Thanks for the answers.

The So Cal Championships is starting to fill. It is limited to 144 players. If you send your registration on Monday, you should be ok. You can view the current registration HERE. (http://www.pdga.com/tournament/tournament_results.php?TournID=4891)

I just recieved another registration form for an Advanced woman that has not been added to the list. If you decide to play, there will be at least five Advanced women. You can be assured that when a woman runs an event, it is "Women friendly". I hope you can make it.

No, once the PDGA recieves the tournament report they will know you are no longer eligible to compete in Am events. This is because you have accepted cash and your rating is above 955.

If you renew your PDGA membership in 2006, it will be up to you to check the Pro box and pay the higher fee. If you went Pro earlier in the year, you could have played Pro all year for the price of an Am membership.

Good luck at the So Cal Championships, hopefully you can keep up your 100% cashing percentage.

I have decided that I don't have an extra $30 bucks to spend. I also don't want to force you to go pro if it is not your time. When the time is right, and you feel good about moving up, that is when you should play Open.

Maybe some of the other thread readers would like to kick in the cash to see you move up? Perhaps some Advanced players that are askeered of you or some Pros that would like a chance at winning your dollars.

Discette,

I want to look my best for the SoCal Championship so I need your womanly advice. Ryan was all "I got like this cool pink collared shirt, for the first round, I bet you don't have a sponsor for pastel shirts"
See Discette, the thing is I don't. So I have two options; I have Bolt blue or Viking violet, which shirt should be worn on what day.

PS. I have matching hats, so no need to mention accessorizing.

Wear the Viking Violet on Saturday. I would suggest wearing the So Cal Tournament Polo on Sunday. It is "True Navy".

Hope this helps.

LmaO I'd have to go with Ryan's advice and rock the Pink one and a Headband instead of a hat!! Just my $o.o2 :D

Has anyone sent the Ventura Open scores to the PDGA yet?

I don't know the TD, to ask him, but the Socal website has results posted already, so I would think they should have been sent.

discette, why has donny gone from using the quote button to reply to posts now, to just cutting and pasting which looks even worse?

can't he just reply when he is just adding info and quote only when he is referencing the quote?

could you PLEASE speak with him this weekend at the championships since i won't be there to ask him to PLEASE STOP IT?!!!!

thanks for your quick response as i'm going insane trying to follow threads now :p

Discette,

Would you be open to donations of unthrown tournament stamped discs for the AM payout? If you are, I have a few that I would like to donate. Also, could you post hole assignments for the SoCal Championship if its not too much trouble.

Discette,

Can you post hole assignments at the course on Friday?

I don't think she can do hole assignments until Friday night when all the withdrawls and wait-list changes have been made.

With as many divisions represented as there are, it will take a lot of mixing and matching to fill the cards. Changing the sizes of even two divisions (one drop, one wait-lister) can easily change what the best mix is, let alone if several people drop.

What's the hurry, anyway? You will play both courses each day. Does it really matter which course and which hole you start on? That can wait for Saturday morning, IMHO.

The hurry? There is no hurry. Why do you care if I want to know what hole I start on?

Anyway, Discette you mentioned that you might have a chance to post hole assignments, so if you can, some of us would like to know.

Thanks to everyone who registered early. I may post hole assignments next week. Not really sure if I want to do that or not.

Thanks Discette.

The hole assignments willb e posted at the course Friday afternoon, but are subject to change.

The main reason I do not want to post the hole assignments is they could change several times between now and Saturday.

Pools will alternate between the two courses.

The Pro Pool will play the Backside course first on Saturday, then play Lakeside in the afternoon. The Pro pool will play the Lakeside course first on Sunday and Backside in the afternoon.
