Here is the Email I got
Dear ZD Friends,
Calls and emails are steadily increasing in anticipation of the 2005 Champion Rocs. Things are developing daily and here are the key items you need to know:
*The original release date of February 1st has been pushed back. Innova wants to make sure every detail of this year's run can be posted before any purchases are made. The extreme collectability of these discs makes that a crucial step in the fundraising campaign.
*1000 Rocs were released at the 2004 Championship. There were 60 left when event sales were suspended. All remaining discs are now available to official Tournament Partners by calling 800.476.3968. Weights range from 165 to 175. Price: $25.00
*There are 1872 additional "standard" Champion Rocs. Half have of these have been stamped with the "Tribal" design. The remaining discs are waiting to be stamped. Weights range from 165 to 180 with the majority being 178-180.
There is an excellent variety of colors. Price: $25.00
*There were 208 Factory Seconds of the "standard" run. Those will also be made available at the official release. Price: $20.00
*We have 1872 Glow Rocs arriving this week. All are heavy weights. They will receive a unique hotstamp commemorating Ken Climo, the 2004 US Champion. They will NOT be packaged as they were last year. Price: $30.00
*Innova Champion is also producing an additional run totaling 2005 discs.
This is the primary reason the release date has been pushed back. These have been tweaked to alter their performance slightly, based on feedback from players since the October release. (Essentially it's a run within a run.) They will be less stable/straighter than the others. This gives people who are throwing Champion Rocs a new performance option. It should also provide us with excellent feedback for future runs. These will all have a unique hot stamp. Price: $25.00
*We plan to post a printer friendly page online that spells out all of the run details for 2005. This will be a first for us and something collectors should really appreciate. Collectors are encouraged to keep a copy of this document in their collection for reference down the road.
*There will be a limit of 50 discs per customer.
As you can see, the total number of discs will be much higher this year.
Last year there were 1870 standard and 1550 glow for a total of 3420. The total from above is 6957. Innova plans to make a significant contribution to the EDGE (Educational Disc Golf Experience) program with the additional revenues collected. The balance will be applied to the 2005 United States Championship.
Additional questions should be directed to Jonathan Poole at the Innova Eastern Sales office. Jonathan is the USDGC Event Director and is overseeing the fundraising program. He can be reached at 800.476.3968 or via email at jpoole@zonedriven.com.
Cheers,
ZoneDriven
isn't making twice as many as last year sort of lessening the collectibility of the CFR Roc?

Most definately,Im sure they will be collected but they wont command nearly as much cake as the early runs will in the future.I think this must be Innovas answer for all the gripe about Champion Rocs not being available to masses like the Buzz or element.obviosly the first run of 1000 will be the one to collect, though I will have one of each like many others.

LESS STABLE!?!
Being more stable/overstable then the DX/KC plastic was the reason I wanted a Champion Roc in the first place. The last thing I need is another turnover midrange. Oh well, at least discraft makes regular runs of the Z-wasp.
There will now be two more CFR Rocs available to everyone else since I will not be purchasing them this year.

Only a portion will be the 'run within a run' that is less stable. The rest will be the standard mold like last years and '03.
Are these going to be referred to as Roc-L's? Or RL's? Hey maybe they'll have the Leopard bottom like the TL's  :D:D

I'm assuming the 'tweaked' run will be more like the 2002 CE rocs. Those are my fav's anyway so I'm looking forward to picking up a few of those. Not a big fan of the more overstable 2003's and 04's. One thing I don't want with a Roc is a fade to the left at the end.
Esalazar hit the nail on the head. Plus, as shown above, some people liked the less stable candy rocs. This looks like a case of everybody getting what they want.

is this that "blunt nose" "sharp nose" thing that Dave D. was talking about?
I have some super rocs and some 11X KC rocs (same weights) and the super rocs are noticably more overstable than the KC's
if you hold them up next to each other, I think, maybe it's my eyes playing tricks on me, but the super rocs, seem to be a little more 'shallow' ??? sharper? I dont know what to call it, but under the nose, they seem to have a straighter edge, whereas the KC's are a little more rounded...
anyone understand/know what I am talking about...
Never thrown a CE roc, so I can't say, but it the run w/i a run is the diff noses, maybe that could account for the diff. in stability?

Thats all nice and well about the rocs but I have a problem with Mr. Poole. I have yet to see the discs that were part of the spectators package from the USDGC. I mean its been since October and still no discs. Im beginning to think I wont see them. I emailed Mr Poole back in December, I think. (giving them two months to get the job done and wrap things up from the event) I got a response saying something to the affect "It wont be long......". Well here it is the end of January going on Feb and I still have yet to see those discs.
I only traveled 700+ miles (one way), spent all sorts of money at the event in the 4 days I was there and played in both the Par 3 events ran by Maceman.
Hmmmm.....makes me wonder if I should spend the money again next year! Nice way to treat one of the few (less than 100 total I bet) fans that actually attended the largest paying event!
:mad::mad::mad:
I have a question for anybody "in the know". Do the "run within the run" less stable CE Rocs have a different stamp or are all the 05 CE Rocs except the glow ones going to have the stamp shown on Innovas websight?

Schweb,
I imagine being a top Innova sponsored pro, that you get your first pick at all discs, would those include the champion Rocs, or are the ones you mentioned all KC and DX rocs?
Or do you have to battle like everyone else to get a champion roc? I would hope priority would be one of the perks of sponsorship.

Jan 31 2005, 12:06 PM
As far as the Champion Rocs go, I would have to pay the same as any other person, because they are Fund Raising discs.

Whats cooler than cool? ICE COLD! Thanks for the opt to just look at it! Oh, my question...Was wondering if anyone had any idea as to the colors and quantities that were made for the run of 1000 at USDGC this year. Especially the red ones and the Opaqe red ones.
rickb
Feb 01 2005, 12:42 PM
2005 run of 1000.
Clear red was the most common color along with the clear yellow. Not sure on exact numbers but probally close to 150 to 200 in each of those colors.
As for the red opaque there were about 12 of those. All max weight and all were flatter, stable puppies. Flight characterisitcs similar to the 2004 glow and the 2001.
The other one to look out for was the 2005 max weight whites. There were 3 of these. The rest were 16? to 177. Again flight characteristics close to the 2004 glow and 2001.

But what if I want a 167 Glow Champion Roc? :p
Ok, so the standard rocs have the tribal stamp. Will they come in the USDGC stamp also or will the modified "run within the run" rocs will have the usdgc stamps or are the "run within the run" rocs the "special blend" rocs that zonedriven has listed in that link? Do you know Matt?
Nevermind. Upon closer inspection (actually reading what was on the page) I see that the standard series comes in two stamps (the tribal and USDGC i'm guessing) which leads me to believe that the "special blend" could only be the "run within a run" rocs.

You just make stuff that you think is cool, and sometimes something like a 2001 CE Roc takes off as a super-collectible.

I have a "night shift" blue pro orc and a 01 CE Roc in my hands as we speak [alright I know some of you are jealous] and the plastic is totally different. The POrc is grippy and squeaks when you rub it. Where as the 01 is smooth and grippy. It's too bad many of you will never know the pleasure of the 01 all I can say is it just feels right. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
i was hoping that the special blend would be like my 01 or like early run ce, but i asked dave and he said:
"crdiscgolfer, the plastic is almost identical to the other USDGC Rocs. The mold is different and the flight characteristic is different from the overstable Rancho. Although the special run says Rancho, it is actually an Ontario. I believe the "special blend" was referring to the parts and color, rather than the plastic"
sucks, i was looking forward to a nice taffy roc... :(

Even if these feel like the '01 Rocs, they aren't going to fly like them. From what I understand, the '01 Rocs are the most overstable of all the Rocs. These Special Blend Rocs are supposed to be straighter that the regular run of '05s. Therefore, people will still be spending piles of cash on the '01s.
All I have to say is Ontrario mold CE Roc. How much do you think people would pay for them in a couple years?

The ones Sugar had at DGLO last year were Proline Orcs. That was the first run of the Proline Orc that wasnt supposed to happen. This rung of Opaque Champion Orcs is not the same thing. The night shift mixed up a new blend of Champion plastc Hence the namce Night Shift Orcs and they feel like old CE plastic :D

First of all what do you know about old CE except for those Eagles you have and Romines plastic you have been fingering.
So for the last time the orc in question is stamped CHAMPION it is opaque blue 175. And I didn't get it from Shack at DGLO. In fact Shack had a box of them mostly yellow and blue.
For the record I KNOW MY PLASTIC !! Bizzach don't question it.

You both are right, but the confusion stems from when you called it a Night Shift pro orc, when you mean Champion, I have 3 of the night shifts

The first run of ProLine Orcs was a mistake and they didnt have a PROLINE stamp yet so they just stamped them with the Champion stamp so they could get them out of the factory. I know what im talking about on this one to BIZZZZZZACH!!! Id have to be that its a proline and not a NIGHT SHIFT Orc

I believe this to be true. I recently traded for some X-out Vikings that were mistamped with a Valk stamp...true diamonds in the rough!

Feb 11 2005, 09:29 PM
I have had x-outs that had excess plastic/flashing in the middle of the bottom of the flight plate around the dimple. Something about ejector pins or sprues or vents....my plastic injection molding is a little rusty :P. I've also had x-outs that had thicker rims in spots, but then again I've had that on non-x-outs as well :) None of those defects ever made a flight difference as far as I could tell.

Where to buy? ZoneDriven Pro Shop (https://www.zonedriven.com/proshop/) (new link as of about 10 minutes ago). You should read through the first page and the "How to buy Champion Rocs on the left side of the page.
When to buy? 12:00 PM EST. The early bird catches the worm.
How to buy? Visa, Mastercard, Discover, American Express, Pay Pal, check or money order.
How many can I buy? 50. If you try to order more your order will be cancelled.
How much? $25 for regular and special blend versions, $30 for glow KC edition, and $20 for X-Outs.
Even with a greater number than last year, your favorites may go quickly. Get your order in early, and just because it's in your shopping cart, doesn't mean it's yours until you check out.
Theoretically, 10 people could have the same disc in their shopping cart, but when a person checks out is when it is removed from inventory.
USDGC Roc 2005 Collector's Guide (http://www.zonedriven.com/2005_usdgcroc_collectors_list.htm)
Hope I've answered most of your questions.
Oh yeah, we should have DX Orcs and Champion Gators on ZoneDriven by noon as well. Enjoy!
are all the tribal stamps gold or what? (i.e. silver, rainbow, blue, etc.)

Feb 16 2005, 01:19 PM
Hey John - There are a variety of stamp colors for the Tribal discs, including Red, Blue, Silver, and White. I did not see any rainbow, but there may be some. However, we were not able to add stamp color as an order preferance this year - Maybe next year.

As you probably know, the USDGC Roc ordering system has been overwhelmed. This occurred before we could even finish the quantity upload.
We planned for 8 phone order takers and 2,000 simultaneous on-line users, but obviously we miscalculated. On behalf of the Championship, I apologize for the confusion, aggravation, and delay.
Heres what we plan to do.
1. Take the sever off-line
2. Reboot the server
3. Clarify the orders that were received
4. Bring the server back on-line with the corrected available quantities.
The time it will take to complete these steps is indeterminate. Theoretically, some on-line orders may get through before the system goes off-line. Phone orders can not be taken during this time as the phone orders utilize the same data base as the on-line orders.
Again, I apologize for the situation. Please be patient and we will get the system up and running as quickly as we can.
Take care,
Harold
Harold will you post once the server is back online and ready for orders?

I think I got a Tribal and a Special. I had my cart full before they were available though. Then, when they went on sale, through some serious refreshing and about 90 minuites, I managed to get these. I did have to drop the other two I already had in the cart because by the time I got to checkout, they were sold out. A pain for sure but it's a learning process. I think they should just sell a ton of them throughout the year and fund USDGC and setting up schools with disc/baskets/courses. They would not be as collectable but people would be able to use them.
I wonder if they will get here before I head to AZ in two weeks.

Look. This is not Innova's fault nor Zonedriven's. It doesn't matter if you wanted 1 or 50 Rocs. There are not too many servers that can take 2000 or more hits every minute or so. Enough hits and any server in a small time frame and I can assure you that ALMOST ANY server will go down.
If you try to order 50 Rocs, by the time you got your 50th Roc, a lot of the ones you wanted would be gone(like rickb said).
This is telling us 1 thing. The sport is growing and people want the quality *****. If you thought that at 12 you would have been able to order smoothly without any hiccups were living in a fantasy world. Like I said earlier...it didn't matter how many rocs you wanted...that didn't crash the server. The amount of people that wanted these discs did crash the server....

that may be cheat, but since some people were getting 20 or 50 of them you can easily do the math and see that some people will be shut out. at least if there was a 10 disc limit, more people would have a chance at getting a disc or two once the servers decide to come back up. and obviously you are mistaken, there are servers that can and do handle huge rushes to buy items. for example amazon.com. maybe they should sell them through amazon next year! leave the online retailing to the pros! ;)
Matty: You seem to know the most.
Will they be taking orders around the clock tonight or will the next chance to get them be during business hours tomorrow?
Of course that all is if they get it back up.

I understand what you are saying. But I am saying that it wouldn't matter if they were going to order 20 or 50 rocs. You could only do one hit on a server at a time(unless you were using multiple computers).
And yes, I agree that the numbers should have been lowered to no more than 10 or 15 per credit card.
