Talked with Stank and he is amenable to doing the Disco two weeks in a row, so back there this Wednesday for the first official eighteen hole round. Good job on the guys who got out there yesterday and punched in #17 to finish it off. Stack picked up the hardware to hang the basket for #17 so it will all be floating Wednesday. Absotively great afternoon at the Disco for first full "sanctioned" eighteen hole rounds of singles. Brockster took overall low with a -2, Barry Sealey threw an excellent 55 for Ams, and man-0-manishevitz for the rest of us it was just pure freaking fun. Good to see ya BS and Clint, definite disc hard cases with everything else going this weekend in general and Hickraw particularly. Good on the Hickory brethren. Shower and second half coming up. Wow what a weekend. Next time might need some rest and less Shine before getting there. That new7 8 9 sequence is unreal. I love how you get finished with walking up 8 then have to walk back down for 9 and do it again ya'll Yadinettes are insane. Still can't make that **** #3. Took me three throws again to get to the mando tree. Might need to stop trying annie around right side of tree but that would be no fun. Oh yeah I lost a Yeller Orc on #12 I believe. I tried the Big annie around the outside again but didn't work. On rightside of woods. Clinton also lost a disc on back. Thanks again Yadkinators.

Got my first look at the grounds at the Senator's place yesterday. Man, Yadkin County disc golf just keeps getting better. This is going to be a killer Homegrown style course boys and girls. John has played 70 some odd courses and has put a little of each into Borrowed Time. Gonna be tight, but legitimate fair, fairways. And don't expect a "tiki" short course either. There are going to be some big old honking tugs for you knuckle draggers. ;)
Supposed to be a little on the inclement side tomorrow, but come on out anyway. There are plenty of dry places to be and we can get some work done between showers.
On a related note, Jeremy had a good idea yesterday. When you are in junk stores, antique malls or the like, keep your eyes skinned for clocks to decorate the course. "Borrowed Time".......:cool:

Killer doubles round at BT Saturday turned in by Ken Sizemore and Mike Samuels, a smoking hot -5. Word is that they birdied 4 through 8 and parred everything else. Good shooting for sure.
And Ben Porter and Jim Gilbert turned in a hot round as well at Y'ville Sunday dubs with -12. Amazing round B and J.
Back to Ramcat for the Wednesday crowd. Main group teeing at 4.

All kinds or good karma rolling around on the ridge today, quite literally at times if you take into account the inevitable Ramcat rolls. The Ben/Chuck team turned in the hot round at -7. Wish I could have seen that one but they were in the other foursome. I did, however, get to see Jeremy/Eddie turn in a five birdie run on the back nine getting #'s 13 thru 17. Im-freaking-pressive!!! The rest of us JG/Vermicelli and Shane/me turned in workmanlike rounds and only the Senator ended up bleeding. Missed Stank and KvMo. Back to Borrowed Time next Wednesday as Mikey pulls track duty. Congrats on the wins Britney. Big time brothers. Thanks for coming. Wednesday afternoon golf rocks!!!!!!!!!!:cool::cool:

Hey Naomi. Good to see you out and about this morning. Better to hear you'll soon be back on the course. You missed a really fun afternoon at BT. I'm loving that course more every time I play it.
Back to the first of the month again boys and girls with this month's First Sunday Singles following the established tradition of playing Yadkin County private courses by playing our newest course, John Glenn's "Borrowed Time" - borrowed land, borrowed baskets, no telling how long it will be there - "Borrowed Time". Great course name John. Festivities will kick off at the usual 2:00 p.m. We have the option of playing the 13 existing holes twice for 26 holes total or playing 1 thru 13 and repeating 1, 2, 3, 17, and 18 for eighteen holes. Rumor has it Jeremy shattered the thirteen hole record with a -12 on Tuesday. :D See y'all Sunday. You're going to love it!!!

Back in Caroline. Cannot recommend highly enough that every PDGA member or non-member disc golfer make a pilgrimage to Appling/Augusta, Georgia to the IDGC. Great, great asset to the sport, and the best disc golf road trip you'll ever take. Both current courses at the IDGC are long but fair offering plenty of chances to get yourself in trouble. Loved 'em. We also played Riverview in N. Augusta and Lake Olmstead. The doubles team of Shane and Bryant threw a 45 at Riverview, a pretty freaking remarkable round for never having seen the course. Good golf, great group, great great time had.....

Good time indeed even with the rain. Yall missed soon good frolf on Sunday. I actually played two rounds out there. First round me and Rossta against Todd and Mikey on the longs. Team BSta shoot a hot even on the front to their -5. However we scorch the back with a -6 but lost by 1. (Controversial foot fault on their last throw but we let it slide).
Then we play the shorts Me and Chaingrabber against Todd and Montana T. Team t and t shoot a hot -8 on front to our -7. However we flip flop the back to both shoot -15s and new course dubs rec. Then we birdie 1 long for the win. Awesome weekend and Thanks Todd and Wendy for the hospitality. Love the new house. Now that's a weekend Paddle n and Frolfn
Oh yeah- Almost forgot the Ace Ron had during Glo friday night

Man oh man what a great county to be a disc golfer. Four 18 hole courses to choose from now - Yadkin County Park, Ramcat, Cranberry Disco and, as of Saturday, Borrowed Time. Big group of folks, looked to be 15-20, showed up with chainsaws, loppers, polesaws and strong backs and knocked out the last five fairways and teepads. It is not a course for the non-fairway inclined, ya gotta hit your lines, but it is very fair and very challenging. Case in point is new #15, 480' hyzer dogleg, 300' to the center of the hyzer turn and another 180' up slope to the pin. It'll remind you a lot of #18 at Ramcat, but a lot prettier. Shane Stevens inaugurated the hole with a string straight Orc drive to the turn, a Roc upshot and a 20' Aviar putt. Amazing!!!!
Tuesday twilight doubles stops at Ramcat tomorrow afternoon, teetime is I think 6:00. Ace Pool has not been hit on this years Tour and is at $166 and, for tomorrow only, I am adding a $50 bounty on any hole not previously aced at Ramcat, so the ace pool is potentially at $216 if you ace #1, 2, 3, 4, 9, 10(anhyzer), 11, 12, 13, 16, 17 or 18. :D Come on out.

Sorry for the SPAM, but I wanted to get the word out about the Sontag Open to our NC neighbors. I'll keep it short. Sontag disc golf course is south of Rocky Mount, VA and just a short drive from Greensboro, High Point and other NC areas. It is 7000' from the white tees, with elevation and sick par fours. I highly recommend it and welcome y'all to the Sontag Open in thirteen days.
PS--It's common knowledge that VA golfers suck, so come on up and take some easy money!

Honestly never heard who won yesterday, but in my mind we are all winners since none of us got struck by the lightning bolt that hit the Disco near the end of the round of First Sunday Singles yesterday. Unfreaking believable when you realize that it struck in the middle of the triangle of three groups of us that were still on the course setting fire to the tree it struck and throwing enormous strips of bark in every direction. Everyone had their own story but suffice to say it sure dominated the post round conversation. In retrospect we should have bailed on the round earlier, but most groups were either playing their last holes or right at it, making us push the envelope more than we would have otherwise.
Almost lost in the late round excitement was the fact that Jim Gilbert badly sprained his ankle early on in the round while retrieving a disc from the steep creekside to the left of #4's fairway. After Jim rejected the idea of building a raft and waiting for high water he managed to get back to the house with help here and there from other golfers. Yup, a right eventful afternoon of golf.
Enjoyed having a big Hickraw contingent with us as well. Brad's car will probably dry out by Thursday, maybe, because it was for sure a bunch of drowned rats that loaded into it for the ride home. :D
Almost forgot the shot of the day. Ben fairway aced #18 from the dropzone!!!!! Incredible Roc shot Ben. Score it as a circle 3!!! Amazing.

Just a little course update on Ramcat. Some of you had already caught wind of the changes that will be taking place at the ridge in the next couple of months. The 60 acre property next to ours is going to be clearcut which will affect play on #'s 3, possibly 4, 6, 7, and 8. Not sure at present how much each of those will be affected, but if you want to catch Ramcat in it's current "classic", soon to be historic, form then you need to get out there in the next week or so. Not sure when actual cutting will start. :(

Jul 15 2008, 10:42 AM
Boooo. So those holes weren't on your prop.Less trees to stop your disc from going all the way down the ridge.
riverdog
Jul 15 2008, 11:00 AM
They either run down or across my property line. Surveyors apparently marked the confines of the cut yesterday. With any luck I'll get to walk it this afternoon. Right now I'd say #3 has the potential to be affected the most, along with 6 and 7. We shall see. The property owner, who was always generous with allowing us to slop over onto her land, has offered use of the 11 acres on the north side of the ridge, which will not be affected by the cut. Maybe we'll need it. Maybe we won't.

Thanks Brad, but after walking the margins the cruisers/surveyors marked this afternoon, they were generous with my 100 foot covenant protected property line. I had talked to a couple of the surveyors when they were first here a month ago and one of them had played some disc when he was at NC State and was sympathetic to the cause. Good folks. The only hole that should be significantly impacted will be #3 and it should be pretty easy to make a pin position change that will make it a pretty cool hole, a little longer with maybe a tailing righty hyzer or tailing lefty hyzer even. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif Either that or I'll just run it straight downhill 600 feet so there'll be a 500 foot climb back up to #4's teebox. Gots to keep Craiger happy. :D  Even that massive chestnut oak on the fairway for #7 is outside the cut line and should be spared.:cool::cool:

Jamie, sorry to hear about the hassle. WTF are they clear cutting that property for? It'll be interested to see how the sunlight and winds effect the vegetation on the outskirts of holes 3, 4, 6, 7, and 8. Is that the East/southeast side of the ridge? Make sure they use some erosion control barriers and that they save all the turtles!!!! If you need me to protest and sit in one of the trees for a little while, I'm sure I could sneak out to play some disc golf while nobody was looking. :D

Thanks for the empathy Todd. I'm being as philosophical as possible about it. The lady that owns that property received it in her divorce settlement ten or twelve years ago and has not touched it since. Tried to sell, but no takers. She's a good person who feels horrible about needing to do this, but she's in her mid-60's, wanting to retire and just plain needs some income. We have been using my line with her land and slivers of her land with her knowledge since Ramcats inception and under the circumstances as much as I hate it, I can't feel ill toward her.
Basically after you come in the dirt road at the bottom of the hill once you pass the last house on the right it's all that land on the right side from there to #3's tee area, around 3/4 mile of my road. :( Gonna make the world from the top look a lot smaller. :p
I've already taken a complete inventory of Carolina Terrapins - 66 males, 69 females (gotta love that number /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif) - and we'll be taking regular counts. :D

Not sure. I think #8 one other time also.
BTW moved #14 out of the tree onto the rock ledge and moved #18 into the big cluster of poplars straight long. Ben parked it, but we had a small tree between us and the basket and we both chained out the putt. It's a pretty cool position. On #9 both Bryant and Ben had drives 35 feet uphill a couple of feet apart and all four of us hit metal on the putts but none stuck. :(

If anyone wants to head up the mountain to escape the heat, there will be a 2-day camping, drinking, and partying fest up in Valle Crucis. Oh right, and some disc golf at the farm while we're at it.
The tournament will be on the weekend of September 20 (I believe) and will be a fundraising event for World Camp, an organization founded by the son of the landowner to teach AIDS education to kids in Malawi and Honduras. http://www.worldcampforkids.org/
I'm not sure of the specifics yet (4 rounds on that course would be killer) or how much they're going to charge, but it should be a good time on an awesome course. All the camping you want is available. The farm is about 15 minutes outside of Boone.

Shacktown Road exit off 421S (this is the second exit past Y'ville coming from Hickraw direction), take right at end of ramp, and 1st DIRT left, then half to 3/4 mile and you'll see cars parked on right. If you are coming from Winston directions are the same but different. :D
