Nothing formal going on Saturday Tyson, but there should be plenty of folks on the course. All pins are in the positions they will be in for the morning round of the YST next Saturday. Hook up with some locals and they can show you where alternate pin positions will be for the second round, or at least the possibilities. :D Who all's coming with you?

It will be Me, my buddy TJ Fowler (will be playing YST) and Doug Cline (may play YST). We should be there sometime after lunch, say 2ish.

Played the course late Sat. (about 4:30 tee time). Looked and played great. It was two of my friends first experience out there. Pins were tough, I played Hickory's Saturday monthly earlier in the day, so worn out is an understatment. Anyways I love Yadkin and would like to say that you guys are doing a great job with new benches and all. Shot a 62, in fact we all shot 62s. Hopefully I can lose a few stokes between today and Saturday. Hickory was a great course as well, as it was the first time I had played there (it was longest the course had ever been set up).

I'll pass the message along from Tracey. Should Stack dress formally or casually? :D Moondoggy walking out of a Burlington Bojangles at seven in the morning with a chicken biscuit in one hand and pulling an open beer out of his shorts pocket with the other is one of those hilarious mental images that just burns itself into your brain.

Jun 17 2007, 09:06 PM
For all that missed the run, which is most of you, a new standard for roadtrips has been set. Played the new Richmond Hill layout in Asheville yesterday with Senator Glenn, Eddie Snody and the Stankster. Everything about it was as good as it gets. Sometime before fall we will be getting another group together to go back down. Do yourself a favor and don't miss it. Very, very cool course - challenging lines, elevation, best teeboxes I've run across, cool tee signs burned into locust wood posts, treated timber steps to help us old geezers climb the steepest steeps, literally tons of mulch carpetting all fairways and trails, and so on, and so on, and so on....... James Nichols and the whole Asheville bunch, and there obviously had to be a bunch, should be justifiably proud of what they have built there. And not just the physical labor either, the jumping through legal/administrative hoops to get the course back in the ground as quickly as they did. BTW, if you whine about the climbing at Ramcat and Cranberry Disco you will probably not want to reserve a seat for the next trip over there. The uphills are not necessarily as relentless as they are on Ramcat's back nine because they are layed out such that a steep climb is usually followed by a lesser climb, downhill or cross slope, but they will get your attention. Killer course boys and girls. Spread the word.

Awesome Matt, I love hearing of new courses in our area...I will be at the Ribbon Cutting in Reidsville on Friday at 10am. Do you know any others looking for a 1st Round? Also I know someone from Innova helped with the design of Reidsville, but do you know who? And designer for Statesville? Reidsville is 20 miles from my house, so if anyone in Cyber Space wants to throw, start a club there, run weekly events, let me know and I will do as much as I can to help...Thanks for any info you know Matt, AND GOOD LUCK AT THE KCWO, my pops lives in KC and the courses are extra sweet!!! Thanks again.

It's at location B on this map.
map (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=l&hl=en&q=parks+recreation&near=Statesville ,+NC&ie=UTF8&ll=35.801839,-80.847273&spn=0.03049,0.069609&t=h&z=14&om=1)
But it's a little tricky. The upper 9 is at the Disposal Plant Road entrance, and the lower (front) 9 are at the Soccer complex, which is over by James Way, Northeast of the B location on the map.
My guess is the dedication would be at the Soccer complex as that's the more public section of the park.
Lower 9 is mostly wide open, with 3 holes that traverse wooded areas, while the back 9 is more challenging, with elevation, more foliage, and much tighter fairways. Tricky greens and some beautiful drives make this a cool course. Holes 15, 16, and 18 are particularly awesome.

Just a little update on your local female discgolfher: I am in the White Mountains region of New Hampshire and me and my eldest son (Newbie) started our disc golf tour today starting with a course in Waterbury, Vermont and I have got to say so far this is definately the cleanest course (other than ours of course) that i have ever played. Met a fellow d-golfer named Ian Pray that was an excellent ambassador for us out of townie's! He was only able to play 14 holes but then OMG a girl named Christine (yeah ; a girl) and her littlen played the rest of the course with us! What a great course; just a shame that the local county will not let the club help maintain with mowing and such but other than that a VERY well designed course IMO! Very friendly folk!

Yes the weather has been just BEAUTIFUL but alas the rain be movin in tomorrow! Played a course in Ossipee, NH today (Steven Tyler's hometown BTW) Terrace Pines and it was a great beginners course. My son and me (he is new) played from the blue tees I scored a 56 and he a 57! I liked the course although they did not have regulation? teepads so there was no runup at all! I extended my thanks and all as it was a very nice course other than that. I think my son is thoroughly HOOKED! Now it is downtime for both of us as I will be spending time w/my grandaughter (3) for the next couple of days! Can't wait to see all you great guy's when I get back!

Hope ya'll had a good 4th celebration.
Spread the word about this weekend!
Saturday July 7th Borden Park Deuce - A - Thon, Kingsport Tn.
Sunday July 8th Winged Deer Park, Johnson City Tn.
Borden is a beginners course, absolutely pitch and putt. We may play 18 holes take a break and then play 36 straight holes. It is such a short course with shade about everywhere that taking long breaks between rounds is unnecessary.
Winged Deer has expanded to 18 holes and is still rough around the edges. The format has changed and there will be only two rounds (36 holes) played. The final nine for top 4 in each division has been eliminated.
Note limit of 72 players at each event.
What else do you have to do?

For the Yadkinians that haven't played it Borden is a little "Horizonesque" but with a couple of holes on the back nine that are much more challenging than anything at Horizons. Lots of fun to be had. And if you like the attitude of the folks you play with in Yadkinville you are going to enjoy the Kingsport boys as well. Jennifer Palmer from HP/T'ville as well as the usual female suspects from over east. Hopefully a lot of them will make the drive. There've been upwards of a dozen women folk at past HGT's. Tell her to come on. Worst case scenario is Frannie, some shade and a bottle, or three, of wine. :D

a bottle, or three, of wine.
If I can pull Wendy down there I think she would prefer sharing three bottles of wine w/ Frannie over playing anyways. :D If it were doubles then I think she'd be up for it.
Still highly unlikely though, she has to cordinate a few hundred people through the Local but state-wide River Cleanup (Big Sweep) the day before. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Did a couple of trial dyes on some used Star plastic last night with something special in mind for the Ramcat stamped discs. It's a work in progress but is pretty cool. Fun time at the ridge this afternoon. Weather was indellible. I think 18 souls. Shane took pro with an even par 54 (which is really a one down with 18 being a legitimate par four in todays configuration), Kevin second in pro at 55 and I think Ben 3rd (?) at 57. This dawg took Amish with a 56 (after starting 5,4,4) still working off the buzz you guys gave me with the Ramcat discs on Wednesday. Good times, good times.:cool::cool:

Thanks BS and T. It was a blast wasn't it. I'll post more detailed results either when I remember them or when Chuck posts them. :D But these are the some of the things I do recall - Ben Porter with a smoking -5 the first round took Advanced, Tong Ron Advanced Master to KevMo's second AdvMaster, Ron's absolutely sick CTP's on both #12 and #18, PosiTodd's Ace on #8, Shane Stevens Ace on the tree position of #14 making him the only person to ace both pin positions on #14, Pro Open Chris Howard (I think), ProMaster Ant Gale (great first time at the Cat Ant)....... And some old bagger guy won Am Master over a crowd of other old guys. :D
As always scoring, awards and the whole day in general went smooth as silk under the capable leadership of Chuck. Great job Chuck!!! And thanks to everyone with the kind remarks about the course and everyone who made it such a good day by being there. Can hardly wait until next year. And just a tease....... Cool beans on the hawk migration. Haven't done that in any formal way in years. Used to do the Mahogany Rock turnout on the parkway and one year we were at the top of Dolly Sods in WV for the Audubon survey. That one was pretty cool. Mist nets set out in the rhodo catching migrating songbirds and tagging them for release. Pretty fair bet I'll be watching migrators Wednesday afternoon too.... and pulling a trigger on 'em. :D Found a very active field yesterday afternoon on the way home from dubs and another one this morning on the way in to the clinic.

Yup, just set your lawn lounger out, cooler between you and your partner, binocs on your chest and gaze skyward. All in all a fine way to spend a fall day in the mountains. We need to do the hike up to the old cable tower area on the east side of the parkway. Pretty sweet little walk, especially in the spring. Fall ought to be good too. :D:cool: Some of the snakeroot I have here on the ridge is from seeds I collected on that walk. :cool:And the Air Bellows off-parkway loop......

Jamie,
i deleted my post becasue i answered my own question as soon as i posted it. thanks for the details on our thread. so it is going to be another 1 day event? that kinda stinks i saw that it filled last year which is great and looked like it was a 1 dayer in 2005. but just my 2 cents and i understand i am the minority here but i am only coming to this event for 1 reason and 1 reason only it is 100 point N.C. Amatuer Points Series Playoff Event. now don't hate on me i love the course but it is a long drive from the beach to support your tournament and until i see just 1 person from yadkinville register and play in the Azalea Tournament in my town (B tier that fills every year) i would appreciate no grief on why i am coming to the touney. i love the course it is great but plain and simple it is a long way to drive and sucks it is just one day and done. if i am coming that far it would be nice to have at least a 3 round event. not to mention it is a play off event and 2 rounds just does not seem adequatet to me. no big deal jsut wanted to throw it out there Yadkinville is Sweeeet and deserves better than a 1 day tournament we already had that earlier in the year. lets really put peoples skills to the test and have a fulltournament here.

Around here which is WI/MN/IL, the events got so big that the TDs split the fields with an event each day to handle everyone on one course. I think economics also entered into it with no more than one night lodging required for those coming from more than 2-3 hours away since the cost benefit of 3 or 4 rounds plus the time killed doesn't justify one or two nights lodging. Not me talking, it's been from surveys and feedback to TDs they've gotten regarding preferences. I think I posted a U.S. map showing the stark difference in 1 vs 2 day events in different areas. NC/VA was close to even on the number of 1 & 2 day events compared to here where it's 95% one day per division but 2 days for the TD.

growing up in N.C. and only playing in N.C. i guess i have become accustomed to big events automatically being 2 day events. i guess if you ask most traveling players here in N.C. it is not worth the expense at all of wear and tear on the automobile gas and lodging leaving work on friday driving all night paying for a hotel or crashing at a freinds house then getting up playing 2 rounds of golf and then driving 2 to 4 hours home. i guess in my opinion if i am going to all that trouble i would like to stay the whole weekend especially if i like the course which is the case with this clubs course. yadkinville is awesome. as to accomodate more people i see the point and don't really have a retort

I'd also like to see Yadkin Open a two day event (and it was last year), but if that's not the way it is, all I'm saying is respect that. Or, run the Tournament yourself! I don't like seeing any TD giving a hard time, it simply just isn't cool. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

That's your decision/choice, problem, and opinion. Sounds like a good one though. :D Maybe you should discuss this further with whoever voted on making Yadkinville a playoff event.
There are 90+ other people playing in the Yadkin Open this year, and most of us can't or don't care enough to play 20+ tournaments a year and compete for such an honorable award like the NC Points Championship. Most of us play in just a few events that are either close to home and/or we enjoy! Whether we like it or not, PDGA events aren't always fair. And again, nobodies forcing you to do anything you don't want to do. ;)

Todd,
I don't want to rain on anybody's parade but there are some real issues here.
1 - it is listed as and sanctioned with the PDGA as a 2 day event
2 - it is listed and has been for most of the year at www.ncdiscgolf.com (http://www.ncdiscgolf.com) as a 2 day event
3 - the TD agreed to be a 2 day event and to be on the NC Point Series
If that has changed then it would have been appropriate for the TD to contact the NC Points Series Committee.
For those of us that have spent a good portion of the year playing in most if not all of the NC Series events it really isn't fair to tell us that all of a sudden one of the 3 playoff events has now been reduced to a one day event.
If this is now a one day event the TD needs to contact me ASAP and let me know this so that we (the NC Point Series Committee) can consider our options.

If this is now a one day event I am not happy and a lot of other people are not going to be happy either!!!
Including the TD!!!

Hey Dave. Followed your sig over here. Got an e-mail notification of new posting on Yadkin Open, but site won't let me through for some reason. YO is 10-11 November with Pro/Adv one day and Ams the other. Ben Porter TD for our Spring thing and Todd Gillihan are co-TD's for this one. Not sure when they'll start listing regs, but will find out as well as trying to get a flyer posted. I'm almost certain Pro's and Advs will be at Ramcat on Saturday for a one round cash event, not certain of format for that one with Ben ramrodding. Should be fun and potentially profitable without getting you worn out with two Ramcat rounds and still having practice time in Y'ville. I think the main reason they wanted to split the field into two days and two rounds was to allow maximum fields without having to resort to auxiliary holes. Hopefully I've confused you as much about it as I am.
The above paragraph is from the New Hanover thread I think last Thursday. That's all I knew then and being the slow study that I am it's all I know now. Talked to Ben yesterday briefly and told him there was some potential consternation over one versus two day. He said, Todd G. is the official TD and it's his call. Covered up Monday. later on. I don't like seeing any TD giving a hard time, it simply just isn't cool. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
who in the world is giving the TD a hard time Todd? you can use all the emoticons you want but it isn't changing a thing. i have not said anything negative on here at all all i have said is i expected this tounament to be a 2 day event on the yadkinville course period.

You're alright dude, it's a discussion. ;) I also should of known better then to get on here and voice MY non pdga opinion too. Lesson learned again, this ain't no fun and a complete waste of time. I really don't care enough and got better things to do, like finish a course. ;) Glad to now know the truth though. ;) :D
Hope to see you in Yadkinville bro, should be a lot of FUN! Best of luck bringing the trophy home!

Well maybe not quite that bad, but....... A lot of you have been aware of extensive huffing and puffing over the format, and ultimately the fate, of this years Yadkin Open scheduled for the second weekend in November. Without wading around in the pit of all that's been said back and forth I'll simply say that the YO will be played, it will not be a part of the NCDGCS, it will be formatted with Pro/Adv one day and rest of Ams the other.
Beyond that I don't have a clue. The course will be in great shape. The folks playing will be challenged. And with any luck there will be some fun had.
Twelve folks at Ramcat yesterday afternoon with YO obviously being a major center of the conversation. Bottom line, the club was not privy to any of the events and misunderstandings that led to all the bruhaha. No one is overjoyed to have all this happen with the ultimate reflection coming back to a great course and a truly great bunch of guys who have spent at lot of time and effort to simply have a good, challenging place to play golf on.... and occasionally invite 80 or 90 of our best friends to play on with us. When all was said and done, last cold beer consumed and dark thirty rolled around, there were probably twelve differing opinions on the whole thing... but I think I can truthfully say all those opinions were exchanged civilly and without hard feelings between us. And THAT's why I'm proud to be a part of Yadkin County disc golf (cue up "America the Beautiful")....... All kidding aside I mean every word of that.
Some killer golf played yesterday afternoon as well. The team of Senator Glenn and Big Air waxed us with a seven down, no bogey round, Bear and I threw a three down which included my first ace on #8, Ben and Stank threw a two down on the strength of a smoking back nine, Eddie Snody fresh off of hernia surgery parked #11 with a beautiful Stingray turnover........... good times, good times.... :D

Ya shoulda all been there. Fun, fun afternoon at the disco. Indellible weather. Got's to be one of the last tank top Wednesday's. And some right decent golf played. We did two rounds of random draw dubs, with Stank and I randomly paired both nine's and ending up even par for the 18. A decent showing for two old farts. Gotta confess though. Old fart team of McGee/Snody beat us by a stroke on the second 9. :D

A killer First Sunday Singles, at least for one of us. Brock threw a -6....... with a five on his card on #1, and the five came when he doinked his 10 foot putt for a three off the basket lip, caught an edge and rolled... a ways. He also missed another eight foot or so opportunity at a bird so he had a legitimate shot at the course record of -8 set by the inimitable Jake Lautermilch. Of course Jake had to resort to an ace, I think. :D
And Mike Samuels took the $162 ace pool with an ace on #6, a pretty S turn over the gulley and through the trees into the mouth, only the second ace on #6 and the only one to not employ terrain features (i.e. trees Big Air)(although I gotta admit to a slight redirection using a tree when I took the ctp on #10 yesterday/msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif).
Wednesday afternoon round back at Ramcat this week.
Don't forget to make provisions to be at the Disco Workday Saturday the 20th of October. Daylight or thereabouts. Bring every freaking tool you own. We're going to try to knock out all the fairways in a day. :D:cool:

Very, very nice inaugural fundraising tournie for Fragile X Syndrome research. I'll post more accurate figures when I get them from Shane, but in the neighborhood of $5000 all told. Nice job Shane. You are the man! Shane worked his fanny off for this one coming up with some incredible CTP prizes and winner prizes including Panther-Colt tickets, Wake tickets, gift certificates from business' all over the area from $25 to $75. And never mind all that, the Chicken Stew afterwards was worth the price of admission all by itself. Lots-o-work turned out Saturday. Five fairways cut in and mostly cleaned by 12 or 14 of us, all of whom will get complementary "get out of jail free" cards as a hedge against one future yellow card. You are going to be astounded and amazed by the "dark juju" side of the Disco. Peril. Peril at every turn. Take your choice, bottomless pits or watery graves. Hmmmm, "Do I run at this one or do I perish?" Bwaaaahhhhaaaaahhaahahaahaha.......

Also things are going great guns at the Cranberry Disco. Rumor has it that six baskets have been hung on the back nine. Some chainsaw fairway work still needs to be done on the remaining three holes. If you have a sharp chainsaw and a couple of hours to spare holler at Stack and he'll get you busy.
And still at the wisp in the wind stage is the next Yadkin County private course. This one is barely beyond the rumor stage, but knowing Senator Glenn it won't be long before there is metal in them there woods. John Glenn has secured permission from his landlord to put a course on 25 wooded acres at his place. If you have a basket, target or just time to donate holler at John. I'm sure he would appreciate your help. Plan now is to accept "loans" of baskets for the lifespan of this course which might be a couple of years or fifteen. Tentative name of the course? "Borrowed Time".:cool::cool:

Fine, fine weekend of discing in and around Yadkin County. All that needs to be said about the Saturday Bag Tag thingy is that Brock took the #1 tag with the next closest #2 tag of twenty seven awarded being a distant six strokes back. All others were pretenders.
Brock slept with the #1 tag overnight before passing it along to Ben on Sunday at FSS at Ramcat. The ridge was pretty rough on most everyone except Ben with way more bogeys and double bogeys awarded than birdies.
At the Massey Palace HG event The Senator took Am Master third with Mo taking Adv Master 3rd, but more importantly Mo walking off with a new Discatcher Sport for his efforts in pasting the Adv Master field week after week through 2007. Kevin immediately turned around and donated his Sport to JG for use at John's new course Borrowed Time.:cool: Congrats and atta boys to KevMo.

Glow Bump.
First Friday Glow starts this Friday at 7:30 and will be every "first Friday" of the month until the time changes next spring. $6 with a buck going to light sticks, and the rest to payout. No ace pool, but it would be cool to bequeath a dollar per if someone should ace. Should be a big old time.

Good, good afternoon at the ridge. Weather blew out by noon leaving nothing but blue skies for the ten of us that made it out. Jeremy/Ben threw an 8 down for low doubles round but the really big new was an ace on previously un-aced #5 by Eddie. Just a killer perfect line down the middle fading at all appropriate spots and unaided by contact with anything but air and chains. Whole lot of whooping going on. Good on ya Eddie.:cool::cool:

Wow that's a Great hole to Ace. Was it a Barking ACE?
Yup, batteries re-installed and barking to beat the band. We were playing in two groups, my group on #6 teepad and heard the chains slam behind us on #5 and the hollering and barking began. Mike Samuels was spotting so got to view it from just a few feet away. I've personally seen Eddie hit dead nuts chains on half a dozen occasions at de 'Cat that didn't stick. He was due. Way cool.
You headed to Two-pillow?

Looks like the proprietors of the Disco and Ramcat are going to have to re-double their efforts at making their courses challenging. Ace on Ramcat #5 by Eddie Snody last Weds and an ace on the daunting Disco #5, creek hole, by Mike Samuel yesterday. Didn't see either of them, but heard the aftermath of both. Whole lot of hollerin going on.

Right blustery at Y'burn this afternoon. The hardy boys were out though. The team of Chuck/Brock took the team of Ben/moi after six hard fought playoff holes. Chuck sank a 50 footer in the wind while Ben and I missed our 40 footers. Lots of fun.
Back to Ramcat this Wednesday. Two'ish.:cool::cool:

Here is the format for 2 rounds of Dbls at Greensboro Ice Bowl:
Two rounds of Doubles is done like this...
Seperate the turn out into 2 pools A and B by ability, randomly draw teams and play round 1.
The high scorer from Round 1 in pool A is paired with the low scorer in pool B for Round 2.
After two rounds the person that has the lowest score for both rounds wins.
Sounds confussing, but it is easy to accomplish.

Big old day on the dance course. New Weds Disco record with 16 folks slippin' and slidin' away courtesy of the early morning rain, sleet and snow, and of course the afternoon Christmas trees. Kind of like walking in uphill beach sand, but different, if beach sand was slippery as cat snot. Best I could tell though, there were no permanent injuries. Permanent injuries require the imposition of both a red card and seven years bad luck. ;) /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif :D:cool: Mike Samuels flirted with that ultimate penalty today by destruction of the under basket rock cairn on #18 with an errant putt. I mean, some types of juju you just can't mess with without penalty. :D

I've had several inquiries as to the format for the New Years Day festivities - times, singles/doubles, etc. Bottom line, anarchy will reign. Come whenever you can get your eyelids separated, but I'm figuring most folks from noon until.......... Primarily a celebrating of the new year with the brethren. Enjoy !!!:cool:

A big time this afternoon on the ridge. Blustery and right chill on top but not overly bad on the south, as long as you didn't leave your coats at #4 on the way down the mountain. Ahhh well.
Back here tomorrow afternoon. Supposed to be blustery and nice again. I'll be out there and chucking. Come join me.

You and Pistol Pete shoulda been with us this afternoon Bradley. Weather indellible, clear, virtually windless, 57 or 58 degrees.... good any time of year and great in January. Several folks threw Ramcat personal bests today - Henri "Bear" Griffin, Pete Thorn, Krispy (tied a personal best), probably others I didn't hear about. 22 in the crowd with I think 10 Pro-ish and 12 Am-ish - mercenaries and the faithful. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif ;) Not sure how the bag tag situation shook out.
If anyone runs across YDGC BT #13, look on the same juju rattle and grab my Cranberry Disco Founding Father bagtag. That's the only thing on there I really want back.
