I've got one of the cordura SkySouth boards. Will that work?

Good Wednesday afternoon at Ramcat. One of our intermediates overthrew #18 long by about 25 feet. Found the mark where the disc hit the ground about a foot from the pin base. Right impressive. There were three or four deer standing around the short pin position for #18 at the same time as we were throwing our drives. They didn't get alarmed though until Matts drive went over their heads and hit the ground behind them. They ran a few steps toward the tee with the "oh shoot, we're surrounded" kind of look. Funny. :D

Thanks Brent. :D PP, a good showing and a strong day although I really think you were mostly running on new car smell. Cool wheels. You need to get some Ramcat dust on that dude. Way, way, way good afternoon at the ridge boys and girls. Big Air Austin got the first ace ever on #6 hitting the white oak to the right of the basket and dead in. That took he and Eddie as a dubs team to -8 for the round besting Chris and Bear at -7. Big old time.

Jake L
May 18 2006, 08:47 AM
Nice shot Bryant

But for the record.... I aced 6 off the fallen tree to the right of the basket. :D

I guess the first ace to hit nothing but chains should be the "first" ace on that hole. :D

riverdog
May 18 2006, 10:09 AM
Oooops. :o Sorry Jakester. Unintentional slight in the afterglow of a Ramcat Wednesday. And P2, they were both apparently landscape feature assisted aces. For me though, with apologies to Mr. Ed, an ace is an ace, of course, of course.

Good karma rolling all over the ridge yesterday afternoon. Lots of good golf shots. Star par for all three groups on #9, Eddie's drive on #12 wedged in the basket base, Bryant hit metal on #10, Chris made a run on #15's basket which was unfortunately about three feet too high, we had the "official" dedication ceremony for the bench Eddie donated for #3......... Ok the bench wasn't a golf shot but cool lever the ness. Plus an iron hummingbird and a stained glass hummingbird have taken up residence in the landing zone on #9. This as an appeasement to the PO'd hummer from a couple of weeks ago. No bad vibes on the ridge........

........gotta work. Frannie found me.

Big time at Friday night dubs and glow. Hope everyone else enjoyed it. Not as many fireflies as last time but it's not as late in the year either. Great job Kevin and Dave on "brightening" everything up, including the string trails across the bridges and glow on crux trees. Even glow fingerpainting on selected trash cans.

Got a lot done on the off day yesterday at Ramcat. Opened up the fairway overhead for the big rhbh anhyzer on #11, cut a dead cedar for a bench on #11 tee and opened an area behind #10 tee in the laurel and built a red oak bench for it. A sweaty day but a good one. I'll try to impose on some of the Wednesday crowd to pull the tree limbs out of #11 fairway as we go through. Shouldn't take ten minutes. See y'all Wednesday.

Lot of folks at the Barber Park PRDT, but a quality foursome at Ramcat. Teams of Bryant "Bad Air" Austin/Mike Stack and Ken Sizemore/me played the entire course to no real effect ending knotted at four down for the round. A good, fun round though with rare star birdie's on #18 - Team BA's on a twelve footer from Bryant after a great drive, ours on a forty five foot uphill putt from Ken. And BA I am truly sorry about the putzing with you before you badly shanked the twelve foot putt on #8 that would have given y'all the win. :o/msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif :D

Nah, no fairway alteration other than opening the overhead on #11 to wintertime clearances. Couple of new yard art pieces on the course obviously carrying strong karma. That and Chris and Matt were both hitting everything - drives, approaches (on the rare four times they needed them) and putts. Could have been a stroke better too as Matt hit #7 dead center chains and it spit out.

Richmond hills may have dumped some of their holes already for the park construction, not sure. You may want to find out before heading there, or go to Mars Hill. I'm thinking Saturday at the Ridge sounds cool for now. My plans seem to change every 5 minutes lately due to work.

Mr. Positive, get up with me for Saturday. I'm coming back to the QC for sure to go see the "Other People" at the Visulite. Jerry celebration, with members from Leftover, ARU, Moonshine Racers, Knewcastle Boys. Jeff Sipe, Cito, and it's a safe bet that Tom Constanten (former Grateful Dead keyboardist) will be up in the mix. Not heavily advertised due to a desire to keep not cool people away.

Had a big time at Mars Hill course yesterday with JG, Eddie and Shane in tow. Actually managed to find all the holes and walk a couple of layers of skin off my feet. Slaz had a big time too, but I'm pretty sure he was ready for some flat palmetto golf by the time we walked off 18. Hey Howdy. We was in the big city. Roadtrip weekend for several of us. A couple or three days in Kingsport, Tennessee area. Had a big time. Played Borden Park, Warrior's Path, Fossil Hill and Shady Glenn in that order.

Of all of us though I'd have to say Dave probably had the most eventful weekend. Dave said when he first started playing he got three or four aces in the first couple of years and then a twenty year drought before acing #8 at Borden on Friday and then another ace on #1 Shady Glenn on Saturday, both with the same Stingray.

Lot of good courses in that area we didn't get to. And some right good golfers too.

Same exit off I-81 as Fossil. Private course at Senator Glenns cousins house - 11 holes with baskets and two sets of tees for each making a 22 hole layout, mostly tight woods but a few open holes to rip on. Well worth the trip if you are in the area. :)

Absolutely, come on out. We usually don't get started as groups until five or so but there'll be folks showing up from 3:30 on. As long as you don't get stuck in evening traffic forty to forty five minutes from G'boro. Catch 421N on west side of WS, +/- 8 miles west of Yadkinville you'll go under I-77, take the first exit 3/4 mile past 77 at Windsor Road, take a right 200 yards to old 421, take a left on old 421 then a quick right onto Cheek Road, Cheek Road two miles to "T" at Rena Road, take a right +/- a mile to a left on Fletch Road, all the way out the end of Fletch, take gravel drive to left of mail boxes a mile up the ridge following arrows on discs at possible turns. Bring three times as much water as you think you need.... and a compass..... and a machete..... and a banjo....

Turned out to be a little of both - Special Guest was Dickie Bockras. Great seeing the Dickster out and about.

The Real BS took Pro with a 50. Jeremy Locke trailed in second at 55. Bear Griffin took Ams with his personal best at Ramcat at 56. Clint and I limped in with 59's to tie for second. Good time had for sure.

What did you boys in Blacksburg do?

JL19095
Aug 07 2006, 08:42 AM
a wanderer from Marion, Va

Here for a brief report. My name holds true as I missed cashing by one stroke but lost seven strokes on putts <20'. Made some 60 footers but couldn't hit the easy birdies.
Ben and BRock both beat me good, while big bagger Clemons took 1st in Adv. in a playoff with the guy that won Adv. last year. Looks like I needed more sharpening at Ramcat Saturday...the edge is still dull!

Kevin had a good day winning Master and beat me by one, so he would have cashed in Adv. Also, GaryC took 3rd...I think?

The reining 3yr champ, Vince W., took the open again. Other results will have to be found on the net.
It was a good crowd and we all had a good time...my only complaint is they don't give out any players packs., not even a mini. Although they did offer water, sunscreen, and bug repellent...which is needed in those bottoms. Lots of mosquitos!

Keem em in the fairway! :)

Big time at the ridge yesterday afternoon and evening. Some pretty decent golf played with Matt King and Kevin Morris shooting a ten down and winning in a putt off over Bear Griffin and Matt Smith. Good to see Matt Smith and Justin Jablonski making the long trudge from Raleigh/Durham.

Lots of memorable shots in our foursome, but probably the most memorable and certainly the most immaculate was Matt Kings power skip putt off a log for a birdie on #6. Never any doubt. :D

Not gonna make it tomorrow night myself and for a similar reason. Frannie is puzzling over downsizing from her "Half-urban" and we are running into WS to pick up a vehicle for an overnight test drive. Shoot, if she's got money for a new vehicle with better gas mileage I'll just have her front folks the 39 cents required for postage, pending outcome of the MTL fundraiser of course. Otherwise it's a loan, with interest. And she'll come get it too. I'm the mild mannered one in the family. She says it ain't so, but I think her daddy was a repo man.

Hullo Todd, PP, Bradley, Antroe..... Not sure how many to expect. I think we had 36(?) for last years Homegrown. Chief JL is heading over the mountain from Virginia. Even heard from Chuckster about making the trek from Sanford. I'm convinced it has to do with tides, the allignment of the stars, the pull of the moon and such. I think full moon is tomorrow night sooooo..... could be a good night for glow Satiddy. Bringing firewood for the pit is cool. I haven't had time to split any and probably won't until after Saturday's afternoon round. Ooooooahhhh, eeeeeeahhhhh, andale, andale, arriba, ooooahhh........... :D

Saturday. Was told I have plans already for Friday night. Most likely will show up Saturday morning hungover. Should be a normal road trip.

Got directions?

From US 421/I-77 intersection, first exit west of I-77 on 421 is Windsor Road, north on Windsor Road no more than 200 yards to OLD 421, left on old 421 then immediate right onto Cheek Road, take Cheek Road a couple of miles to the junction with Rena Road, right onto Rena Road for a mile to a left on Fletch Road, Fletch dead ends in a culdesac, go straight out the end of the culdesac to the left of the mail boxes and follow disc signs with arrows one mile (a full measured mile) up the ridge to the course. If you get turned around the home number is 336-468-8081.

Good deal. FF, keep your eyes peeled for Ben as well. Me thinks Brock has permanently defected to the Pro ranks. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif Should be a big old time tromping in the bushes and woods.

It'll probably be around five before I can shake loose here this evening. Early arrivers mosey on in and make yourself at home. If I'm not there by five don't wait on me for dubs so you can get a whole round in before dark-thirty. Hoooooahhhhhhhhhh. :)

I posted directions from 421/I-77 junction a couple of pages ago. An alternative is exit 79 off I-77, go south on US-21 about a mile to Rena Road, take a right on Rena, a mile to Fletch Road and a right on Fletch to the end, etc.

Sorry Todd. Registration ends 10:30. First tee time 11:00.

A quick note on parking. If being able to get in and out when you want is important to you, angle park off the sides of the driveway between the gate and #2 basket/#3 teepad or beyond #3 tee on the drive. A further note, if the grass growing is knee high and of uniform texture, it's a wet spot better to be avoided. The drive is no longer a part of the fairway for #2 so the only concern is keeping your vehicle out of line of fire for #3 entering the woods :oor a tail out on #2. RD

Really enjoyed the whole shooting match. Wish y'all could have made the glow last night BS. No significant injuries, I think primarily because most of the falls happened while we were bent over, hands on knees laughing our butts off at some silliness or other. Not as far to the ground when you are already half way there.

Justin, I'll check the driveway for your Orc. Drop me a note early in the week and we'll see what we can figure on Zigs.

Thanks Fran and Jaime. The course was brutal as always. First round got all the love, second round got all the trees glances known to man. seven shots worse but couldnt have asked for a nicer walk in the woods. Thanks again for the hospitality. still wanna hear about that 10 ant roe?

Yup, Tater, I think everyone had a pretty good old time. Frannie and I sure did. Thanks to everyone for coming and thanks to all the above-and-beyond contributions to the course fund. I know some of the pros contributed their winnings. Again, guys, thanks so much. Even with a C-note contribution to THCDGC and Boone Todd to help with their efforts in Jefferson there was $75 left over to go toward inner chains on the Ramcat baskets. Then maybe you could run a little harder at those downhill putts.....or not. :p :D

And a blanket thanks to Todd Gillihan and Chuckster for all they have done with the Eastern and Western Homegrown Tours. Looking forward to having them back on the same board next year.

I had a great time this past weekend at the world renown, wild and wacky Ramcat course/Funhouse. By no means am I refering to Ramcat as not being a serious course, it plays very challenging and Jamie's done an excellent job with the overall design and constuction. This course just defines the word, FUN! Nestled on top of a mtn. ridge in a beautiful wooded setting, Ramcat is a magical place, with thrilling elevation changes, and lot's of tree's! Also, being that it is a private course, there are no distractions, allowing you to focus on the 40ft. downhill putt into the abyss. :D

So, a big thanks to Jamie and his wife Fran, for all their hard work and very kind hospitality. It was an honor and a priviledge to throw my introductory course round with you. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to follow your lead. I was having a problem with my disc's leaving my hand to early nearly every drive I threw. I honestly think my disc's were just anxious to get there and see the next hole! Jamie, you might just make it on the box of lucky charms if you keep it up! :D Again and again, Thank you for sharing every disc golfer's dream with us all!

I also would like to say THANKS to Todd, Mike, and Chuck for all of their hardwork and dedication bringing the Homegrown Tour to WNC.

The biggest news by far though, has to be the very generous donation/contribution by the Yadkinville DGC and Jamie to help support the new High Country Disc Golf Course at Ashe Co. Park, in Jefferson, NC., by sponsoring a hole. So, another big THANKS to all the folks who have ever contributed to making the Yadkinville Disc Golf scene such a big success! You guys have 2 wonderful courses, and a great group of locals that know how to have a good time! I foresee a great friendship (or rivalry :D), in the future between these 2 neighboring territories ( the Foothills vs. the High Country). Much love for you guys always! Remember that! No matter how much we knock each other around someday. :D

As far as the hole sponsorship at Ashe Park goes, your 2 yr. sponsorship won't start until all 18 sponsors have been found. We can discuss in the near future what hole you guys would like to represent? So far, JG like's #4 or #8. Regardless, I guarantee you, you won't be sorry! All I ask is that you fancy the hole out with some of your good luck charms! :D

Sorry about the long explanation BS, I know how it drives you crazy. :D:) :p ;) :) That was very nice of you to kick down your winnings.

To sum it all up....
Homegrown Tour + Ramcat = FUN!

Looking forward to next year! :)

You are most welcome Todd. I don't guess I told you the whole story about putting a course together though. It starts out as mostly a selfish desire to have a course to play, then becomes a labor of love. Somewhere along the way it'll turn into an act of pure obstinacy just to see it finished. ;) /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif :D At some indefinite point after that you are rewarded with the kind of thing we had at Ramcat this weekend.:cool::cool: From Frannie and I thanks to all who came and made that part of the dream a reality for us.

And Todd, you are doing a great job. Hang in there! You've heard that good things come to those who wait? Well, this old greybeard will tell you that those who wait get the dregs left by those who didn't wait. Keep on beating the bushes and woods.

The Hickraw boys would like to thank Fran for the coffee and ham and cheese in the morning. ALso, Jamie for having such a beatiful place and especially sharing it with the likes of us. Richmond Hills needs help.
From an email I got Thursday:

"we really need folks to come to Richmond Hill to show the City of Asheville the popularity of disc golf. Please encourage any and all to be at the claypit of Richmond Hill park on Sunday at 2pm. There will be no golf played, but we will be ensuring future golf at Richmond Hill.

Oct 06 2006, 11:23 AM
I believe the city has shut down any progress on the park due to major erosion problem. Word is, the army of engineers did a crappy job of grading because they were shipped out to fight terrorism. Will get some more local gossip and pass on. How are the leaves your way? Disc Roast info anyone

Fossil
Oct 06 2006, 11:34 AM
I know that the North Carolina Department of Environment & Natural Resources closed the Richmond Hill facility because of erosion/run-off issues in August and was going to fine Asheville after one month if they did not correct the problem. All 18 of the new fairways were in and being prepared for the Cross State Doubles when the state closed the whole thing. Now I understand that every hole needs to be individually approved by NCDENR and possibly redesigned.
