I am a seasoned survivalist and get off to functioning without the help of outside influences. Yep everything I will be doing will be from the heart of the woods. Including posting how Nelle's game is coming along during the tourney. Wireless rocks. And AT&T's GSM network is blanketed across the US with one exception in Fredricksburg. Now go cut your finger nails off so you wont break one during a drive. :D:D:D:D:D:D
So are you saying that AT&T (GSM) has coverage throughout the San Saba courses?!? And that means that all Cingular GSM phones would have coverage as well since they merged...
In theory yes! I dont think all the of cingular is a part of the gsm network yet. They like to sell the future.
Grunion, you are thinking of Dee, and Nelle is talking about Deatra (sp?). Dee normally plays teams, and in 2002 went undefeated!

Nov 20 2004, 05:04 PM
Well... the champs have taken their first hit.
Arlington A 6, Lewisville 0
Pease 5, Windedale 2
Pease 4, Arlington A 3
Lewisville 6, Winedale 2
If Pease can take out Lewisville, they'll make the quarterfinals.
Tyler 5, Cat Hollow 3
Bart 7, Waco1
Waco 5, Tyler 4
Bart 7, Cat Hollow 1
Bart looks very strong but still needs to get past Tyler.
Lubbock 5, Round Top 2
Live Oak 5, Round Rock 2
Round Rock 4, Lubbock 3
Live Oak 8, Round Top 1
Live Oak dominates early -- can Lubbock pull another shocker?
A&M 5, Big Spring 1
San Marcos 6, Longview 0
Circle R 6, Longview 0
San Marcos 5, Big Spring 1
San Marcos looks much improved, but can they hang with Emerging big dogs A&M and Circle R?
Scores still not in for the B pool, but rumor is that Waterloo lost to Arlington B and was tied with The Woodlands with two matches unreported. No news on Circle C yet.
Incredibly, we got about half an hour of rain while most players were still at lunch. There's virtually no wind, so every thing is running very smoothly.

Nov 20 2004, 05:15 PM
Some surprising results from Pool B:
Arlington B 5, Waterloo 4
The Woodlands 5, Circle C 3
Waterloo 5, The Woodlands 2
Arlington B 5, Circle C 4
Arlington B is walking the walk. If they get past The Woodlands, they'll got to the quarters. The four Pool winners will rest in the morning... while everyon else goes to the Mixmaster.

Oh and to Ware's earlier post about a real division.......it's called Open because anyone can play in it, even a terrible player like myself :D:D
Here's your $$$$ totals in the "REAL" division for this year:
4 105 Texas State Doubles 14-Feb to 15-Feb-2004 209 $40
5 PDGA Professional World Doubles Championships 13-Mar to 14-Mar-2004 221 $225
2 60 Temple Open 08-May to 09-May-2004 184 $176
Looks like you had a great partner twice this year and somehow managed to make a few putts within 20' for a tournament :D:D:D:p
Nothing but love for you Ware...........but it is way to easy to pick on you when I have the opportunity ;)

Two pools wound up with three-way ties. Wow. Three teams all 2-1.

Arlington B goes undefeated!
Live Oak also undefeated.

It got nasty -- heavy rain and high winds -- during the afternoon rounds. I'm ready for a new career as a tow truck driver.
Here is the full scoop on Saturday:
POOL A

Arlington A 3 Pease 4

POOL B
Waterloo 4 Arlington B 5
Circle C 3 The Woodlands 5

Waterloo 4 Circle C 4
The Woodlands 0 Arlington B 7
POOL C
Tyler 5 Cat Hollow 3
Bartholomew 7 Waco 1
Tyler 4 Waco 5
Bartholomew 7 Cat Hollow 1
Tyler 5 Bartholomew 3
Waco 5 Cat Hollow 3
POOL D
Lubbock 5 Round Top 2
Live Oak 5 Round Rock 2
Lubbock 3 Round Rock 4

Lubbock 2 Live Oak 5
Round Top 7 Round Rock 2
POOL E

Circle R 5 Big Spring 1
So Arlington A, Arlington B, Bart, and Live Oak are sleeping in.
All other Established teams are in the Mixmaster at 8:00.
A&M is cruising in Emerging. Looks like the winner of Circle R and San Marcos will take on A&M in the final. The loser will play Big Spring in the 3rd place playoff.
Great competition and huge fun. Pray for no more rain.

Conditions were pretty bad during the afternoon. The dragons lair actually recieved hail. Our 4X4 got stuck a few times but we got out with the effort of other DGers
I won one, lost one, and tied one.

Thanks again, sir!!! You put on quite a show and we could never repay you for all that you have done for our beloved sport. Keep up the incredible work!

I need to send a special THANK YOU to Mark Bowman. He pulled my son out of the Colorado River after he slid in. Zack had gone over the fence on 5 (River Course) to rescue an errant disc. DRIVING rain, slid in the mud, wound up IN THE RIVER. Mark was the first to get to him. It took a human chain to reach Mark and Zack. Everyone was slipping and sliding. They made it out, thank God, but Mark's quick response made the rescue possible. Quite dramatic scene, during a memorable round. THANK YOU MARK, YOU ARE MY HERO!
Of course, there was 1 player standing at the top, arms folded, gritching about it getting dark, needing to get this round over with, wasting time, etc. I'm sorry if my son's situation caused you to have to wait.

What a great weekend! Lots and lots of fun.
I am sure John is at his desk (still muddy) reading about this weekend.
You did a great job and you were a great host.
It may have been muddy and wet. But EVERYONE had a great time.
The staff was great and the work to pull the event off was difficult. But you guys made it look easy. Round Rock had a great time and will be back next year. Pride was high for all the teams and the playful smack talking was fun, even John got his stabs in.
And to all you stacked / sandbagging teams..come on guys the fun is even better when its with the true players of your cities. Team golf is all about strategy not who can you get to sand bag down or who can you recruit. Strategy is why we won the mix master.
Congrades to all the winners and thanks again for a great time.
Well said Mr. Vinnie. Glad to hear all had a good time out there. I just talked to Siuda and he said that team Pease enjoyed themselves and competed well until the mix on Sunday morning. He also said he and Dion had a good time towing/pushing people out of their camp areas. Congrats to all the teams for not fighting like the Pacers.

It was great fun. Please, Mr. Houck, do something about the rain next year.
Thank you very much Metal Mike for finding and returning my very special putter from the water behind hole SB 4.
This continues to be the most fun event of the year. Even a torrential rain with wind and some hail could not bring down the spirits of the players!
I want to thank all of Team Cat Hollow for playing. We put together a hodge-podge team and everyone gave it their all. We had a great time, and we will be back next year!
Just a couple of highlights thru-out the weekend- The big bad 4x4 getting stuck- TWICE! Thanks to the help of some players we got it out. That bad *** truck needed some mud tires!! Seeing it get pulled out by an Aztec was ridiculous. I'm already tired of hearing Dennie tell that story!
Tasker playing best shot by himself, and still shoots a 34- mad props Takser- that is f'n awesome!!! Especially after seeing water flowing underneath the entire Circe C camp the night before- that had to suck!
Enjoyed camping with the Dragons. If you don't know- this club is what your club strives to be. They are tough, loud mouthed and obnoxious- but they have more love and respect for each other then I have ever seen outside of a family. You guys are awesome! Thanks for letting me be a part of the fun.

And you are right this is what a club is all about!

Still no mention of the only two aces out there this weekend?
Well, they were hit by a mother and a son, both on opposing Arlington teams.
Team A - Juli Steel hole 6 river
Team B - Josh Steel hole 16 meandering green (I think - I get it and GB mixed up)
An ace at San Saba is awesome and needs some recognition!
I enjoyed playing with all the ladies I got a chance to play with.

Laura, thanks for mentioning the aces.
And I believe you had a word of thanks for Live Oak... for a certain food item? Or would you rather I thanked them? We're still enjoying it today.
Josh, we generally mull over the spirit award for a while. I'm still taking input from captains on who was naughty and who was nice out there. Anybody with input should feel free to let me know. For example, I had no idea the extent of the river rescue effort until I read about it this morning.

I'll have to say that was the most fun I have had in that crappy of weather. Tom and I cooking (actually I was more watching and pouring beers from the keg) outside in the rain with umbrellas while a small stream was flowing underneath us was priceless.
I have to hand it to the rest of the team for sticking in there after our other two members "didn't show" on Sunday. Especially Martin and Emily. Martin played on his own for best shot; and Emily for playing so hard in the driving rain with no umbrella and coming back from 3 down to tie it up.
Thanks to Tom Tallman for volunteering, cooking, and pushing cars out of the mud until after dark. I hope your shoulder heals up. Thank you John and all your staff & volunteers.
Last and least to James - (1) I did win a match, (2) put your money where your stogey is, lets see how you play without your big buddy Olse backing you up

Thanks again John for all of your hard work in making this tournament happen! Thanks to all of the staffers as well!
Both Arlington teams had a blast as usual! It isn't just about the skill, it is about having fun too!
We also have two very united teams. They still prop each other up even if they lose a hole or match!
It helps when you know your team is backing you and rooting for you to win!
Thanks to all 18 players on Arlington A & B for my card! You guys are the greatest!!!
Hopefully next year we will not be seated in spots to play against each other in the Semis!!
It was good to see all the women out there! You guys played your hearts out! Keep it going!

Dear Mr. Houck,
I had a wonderful time at your Texas Teams Event this past weekend. Although I never got the chance to best anyone with a name other than "Chris", I still found the courses a delightful challenge and the company atleast tolerable.
Last, but not least, I vote yes on opening up a Recreational division in the Established team format so that Martin Tasker may fill the esteemed position of Rec. 2. Martin is a gentlemen, a true sportsman, and deserves to win a match every once in a while.
Sincerely
Mr. Michael Olse
P.S...... Would it also be OK if Chris Hicks was our Am Woman next year.......

And to all you stacked / sandbagging teams..come on guys the fun is even better when its with the true players of your cities.
You have to me kidding me? Vinnie I suggest you check the league results of Live Oak and Universal City to see where Jay, Des and myself play. When was the last time you saw the 3 of us play anywhere else? We live in San Marcos which is 35 minutes from both courses. We play in Live Oak! Maybe you start a team Garfield and follow your own rules?
Team Golf is about playing as a team, winning as a team, and loosing as a team, which we did, all with pride and enjoyment. Congratulations to Lewisville for beating us in the quarter finals and to Arlington A for the win.
By the way we all know Live Oak beat Round Rock but I didn't know that Round Top beat Round Rock. Now that must have hurt :D
Thanks to all the Live Oak players for a fun weekend. The atmosphere in our team was fantastic. Win or loose we stuck together as a team and enjoyed the time. Thanks to Wayne Atkinson for setting up the house, Des for a great T-Bone meal and again to Wayne for caddying for me all weekend :)
See you in Live Oak soon.

With a popluation of only 81 people (http://www.roundtop.com/roundtop.htm), I'm farily certain that at least some of the Round Top team doesn't actually live in Round Top (for that matter, I believe that the Snow Farm is actually a few miles from the city limits, if I remeber correctly).

As for living in Round Top, this may be true, but if you add the cumulative years of disc golf experience with ALL the Team Leapers, you may find that we top over 175 years experience. The avg. Leaper has over 10 years playing this sport and we have one that has been throwing flat plastic 21 years! :p (we love ya, Rich) Most of us can remember Houck running Big Fun at Zilker and standing on the table so he could see all of us. :D
It's not where we live , it's our disc golf FAMILY ! We sorely missed one of our family members, Father Dave Tayloe, who could not make it because of health problems.(but we talked about him anyway :))
You see, competition is fine! But being able to party with folks that have been around this sport so long is what Round Top is all about! You too, Gordo. We all know where your heart really is! :D
AND...some of our team beat Round Rock....so THERE!!!! :p
Not the Cat Hollow Intermidiate and advanced card in Mix master! :D:D:D:D:D:D
Very Nice.......and well said Rick!!
Man I wish I had made it this year. Sounds like it was a blast. John, you got a great thing happening down there. I'm gonna make it next year fo sho!!!
Secondly I'd like to tell Dave T. that Daryl was here for the VPO and told us of your plight and I want you to know you're in our thoughts, buddy. Hang tough, man, from all of us here in the ADGA and, I'm sure, all over this state.
Nice. Sorry Bart, I was rooting for you. Congrats Arlington. :)
Thanks, Grunion!
We had so much fun this weekend. John manages to make this event a blast every year, regardless of the weather. NOTE: A few tiny pieces of hail don't compare to the frigid temps and unbelievable winds from last year!
Gotta' say a BIG congrats to Arlington! Julie ROCKS!!! And congrats on the Steele ACES!!
But! Look out! Team Bart will be looking for a win next year!!!!

When you graduate from the first grade and learn to spell and write a decent sentence structure, come see me and my fellow Live Oakers. On second thought, please don't come... ever.
Next year, at least for the litter dragons ;), we will plan this out better. We plan on getting one of those big fat nice lodges some of the teams got. We will work on getting some sort of team shirts or hats or something. We will also have a better grasp on our strengths and weaknesses, and have a better all around strategy.
I think everone needs to step off the Live Oak team. They might have beat you, but they did not win, so how can it be that stacked?? (except for those bagging vargases!! ;))

Round Top, Round Rock, Red Rock -- who can keep them all straight?
I apologize for the error.
It was a great weekend. I have to head out this morning, but I'll put together more results and memories next week.
And if anyone wants to discuss who plays on what team, you may direct those comments to ME. I reviewed and approved all final rosters, sometimes after lengthy debates with captains. There were even a few roster moves that were NOT approved along the way. The buck stops here.
By the way, if anyone other than Round Rock wants to add C. Ware to their roster, I will not consider that stacking your team.
(Sorry, Chris. You didn't deserve that. You should actually captain Round Rock B. Round Rock really should have at least one sane captain.)

Hmmm....Mark Vargas is the top Advanced player from Live Oak...I don't know if he played Adv1 at Teams lat year, but I would bet nickles to dimes this isn't who you're talking about for three reasons:
1) He's one of the most respected guys in the disc golf community, and in every regards the model of what sportsmanship and stewardship of the sport should look like. Mark is the antithesis of "lack of sportsmanship".
2) Have you seen the guy? You'd have to be suicidal or just a freak'n moron to to even think the thoughts "I wanted to kick his a**"
I've heard people jokingly refer to the guy as Shrek...for both his size and disposition.
3) Actually, I only have two reasons. But they're pretty good ones.
Must of been one of them San Marcos hired-guns masquerading as a Live Oaker....you know how them San Marcos folks can be....

Thanks Chris for apologizing, that was nice.
Live Oak has always tried to represent itself in a sportsman like manner. I know exactly who played advanced 1 last year and it was our team captain this year. I find it hard to believe that he was unsportsman like.
Do you ever notice how these threads always find a way of focusing on the bad and not on how great a tournament this was?

I'm sure the guy didnt do anything unsportsmanlike, every post that I have ever seen this guy put on here has said negative about somebody. I guess that he is bitter about something, I dont know what his problem is- my guess is that he has been hitting too many trees at Z-Boaz. I have never had any problems out of anyone at Live Oak except for one guy but I didnt think that it was bad enough to post publicly that I was going to kick his a**.

i actually got OUT of a ticket for being a disc golfer in live oak. i know! the shock.
leaving the park going about 30mph and pass a cop who is parked on side of the street. pulls me over and i start to think of my illegal license plate cover, Tired of Loosing Your Balls? Try Disc Golf.
he asks me if i am a disc golfer after asking for my insurance and dl. i say, yes, and instantly think i am sooo going down or at least getting a sobriety test or car searched. he writes me a warning, tells me the speed limit in the neighborhood is 20mph and then kindly asks me to watch the speed limits next time i am in live oak.

Congrats Arlington A! You folks are the proven champions of this event.
Good try Bart! One of these years you'll make it over that hump and go home with the grand prize.
Thanks to all the members of Team Waterloo. We did well in pool play (and we did beat Circle C, the results just aren't corrected yet), barely losing to Arlington B and beating Woodlands & Circle C. We just totally sucked at the Mixmaster this year. The only good part about that was getting out of the mud and making it home by mid-afternon for some football and vegetating on the couch.
Thanks Team Leap for being such fun people to camp with. KT came up with a new yell for our joint campsite:
LEAPERLOOOOOOOOOO
(and yes Rick... in my heart (and in my skill level) I'm definitely a Leaper :D)
WOW! Who would have believed it possible to be that wet and miserable AND have such a blast! John did it again with another ABSOLUTLY unique golfing experience.
The only regret I have (other than giving a buddy a little too much grief about the 2 meter rule) is not rounding out the unmatched Steel family ace race. Juli with hole six on CR and Josh with 15 off the dam on MG. Has anyone ever heard about something like that in a tourny before? I know of a couple of back to backs, but not two from one family.
Oh! One more disapointment. I was really looking forward to getting a chance to play Des. :( Hopefully next year? :D Still, the fellas I did get to play were incredible. Thanks one and all for some great matches.
Woulda preferred a 1-2 sweep, but the 1-3 will have to do us for a year. I am sure Arlington can brag enough about that. Any more and we would have been hard to.. um impossible to... well... MUCH more difficult to put up with than usual :D
Thanks John, Alex, and all of those that worked so hard to make this another wonderful experience in spite of the weather. HIP-HIP-HOOOORAAAAYYY (Do people say that anymore? )
yeah it really sucks bad to get a bad [*****] 4x4 stuck in the mud especially when your 4 wheel drive clutch goes out and you are stuck at the mercy of an aztec!!!! Thanks for pulling me out though,,,,needed it!!!! Next time less chiefs and more indians!!

We have had computer problems, but I wany to say Mark, my son and I enjoyed playing on the Waco team, thanks Joey,
As for driving a Town Car, I won't do that again, thanks John.
And the one with her arms crossed waiting to finish her game while the boy was being pulled from the river, she must not have known how bad it was or could have gotten. If she saw the look on the boys face while he was in the water she might have been more helpful. Mark said he would have dove in head first if he needed to, the water was to the boys chest, very scary, glad it all worked out, cold but safe.
Great courses! I hope to play again next year,

Mark, We are sooooooo glad to hear your son was safe & sound after such a scare! We did not hear about the incident until reading about it here on the message board.
It was good to see you zooming up the road after being pulled out of the mud...good driving! It would have been easy to get stuck again. (I really like the big town cars - nice ride)
More on good (BAD) driving...John can drive a tractor pretty well...I went down Monday morning and STUCK IT in deep. Might be 2005 before we can get it out.
I think I'd better stick to crawling under and hooking up the chains!
It was fun despite the adversity. I've never seen so much unity, good will and sportsmanship amongst competitors at any event I've ever attended.
Mark, your completely correct and it's worth repeating...it's not always about the game!
Thanks again for all the fun and friendship.

a little confusion here. The boy was someone elses son. I am Marks wife writing. I am not sure who the boy was he was around 8 i'm guessing. I am just glad it all worked out, the water was rushing pretty good. Again we had a great time. Ginger
The boy was Zack Logan, son of Bobby Logan.

I found the earlier post
Great job Mark and all involved! I'm not surprised at Mark's actions as he dove in at the beast to save a couple of my errant drives(those proline t-birds do really fly straight)!

We had a family ace fest at this year's Waterloo. Brian Mikeska aced to tie his dad in the "total aces" category. However, Guy Mikeska then got one to go back in the lead.
I'm sure Brian was happy for his dad :D, but ****** about being behind again
