Tony Ellis aka Nudediscgolfer hits his 2nd ace on hole 17 today. He aced the same hole yesterday.
Players party was a blast. Lavone Wolfe pulled a couple of cases of old discs from his closet and it was a feeding frenzy. There is a 6 hole course set up at the host hotel with one of the coolest shots ever. A short 80 foot shot but you have to tee off from your knees and shoot through a concrete pipe.
There were alot of players tossing around 80 molds outfitted with lights on the temp course at night.
The food was great, the band rocked and everyone was having a blast.
You folks sitting at home are really missing out.
Rick we are sitting at home because I don't recall anyone inviting "non players"... am I correct? If we had an invite maybe we would have showed some support for our Carolina peeps.. Many of us will be out supporting and cheering on the players Sat. and Sunday.. but who the heck will crash a party? Oh I guess that would normally be ME /msgboard/images/clipart/proud.gif.. Oh well.. I've never been known to go by invitation only.. but the Ideal Home Show was in town../msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

Lowe,
Don't worry about Zeph Carrigg's score. He is not here. The 71 was an error. He was supposed to have a 140 posted as a courtesy. The staff was expecting him to show late for the first round.
When he and two others didn't show up for the second round, the TD dropped them from scoring and stats.
Again, I repeat...Zeph Carrigg is NOT playing in the USDGC....No play, no score.

Maybe Nude Golfer's bum foot has turned into an asset in some strange way.
I had the privilege of following the lead group on Friday. Man, what a show? Ken is the King of Consistency and I guess that is what makes him such a great player. I've seen him play 3 majors at Winthrop and each time, his play is similiar. Don't make a mistake and get your birds when you can.(On one final Sunday, it was raining and windy and he still tore it up) I do think Cam left at least 5 shots on the course with some putts he could have made and a few errant drives. He could have kept up with Ken if he made those shots. Anyway, Friday was awesome and I hope the competition stays tight thru Sunday. On a side note, the course looks great. The crew at the USDGC have running a major tournament down to a science. Great Job!!

Great photos!! The one thing that seems apparent to me is that all the people involved at the USDGC truely love this sport. Thank You for all the work you guys are doing to keep everyone at work or at home up to date on what's going on.
You guys think Zeph is a waste, you should check out Arizona's act. They had 2 TD spots from the memorial and worlds plus the state rep. They assigned people for each of the 3 spots and none of the 3 went. Meanwhile, I'm sitting at home along with a couple other more deserving players that could've/would've gone.
I was critical of the lack of coverage at Pro Worlds, but hats off to the usdgc for all the coverage. The radio this morning was a great promoter as well as the photos.
Awesome job guys and gals.
Theo will there be a webcam? I heard it mentioned on the radio.

Oct 18 2003, 05:46 PM
I've never seen the par 5 eleventh hole, but something is definitely wrong with a hole when the best score today so far is 5, the worst score is a 13, and the average is roughly 7, which is what the entire second card took. Former world champ Cam Todd took a 9.
When the best disc golfers in the world are scoring that high, something is definitely poor about the design of hole 11.

Hole 11 is designed to make you pay if you don't execute or take more risk than justified. It's also a Par 6, especially on windy days, but Harold won't call it that. Today, Mike and Cam both took the risky shots and paid. Ron and Ken played conservative on 11 and didn't have trouble. Mike was in great position after two throws and went for the pin from 425 feet into the wind. The others laid up for a "safe" up from 250 or less. Mike actually crushed it past the basket but was too far right and OB.
Cam was 30 feet past and below the basket in four. I commented to Des that that position was a lurking 3-putt knowing that Cam would likely go for it even though the money shot was to lay it up with the treacherous pin position on the mound surrounded by OB if the disc rolls away. Sure enough Cam went for it, got metal and rolled OB. Got metal on the come back and rolled back where he was originally. Missed that one then put it in. Four throws to get 1200 feet and 5 more to get in from 30. That's Winthrop Gold.

Oct 18 2003, 11:44 PM
Hole 12 was back to its version from previous years and was nastier than normal in the wind. Ken played safe down the middle. The other three went outside left with huge turnovers or rollers but the strong right to left crosswind kept all three shots from coming back inbounds. They each made their next shots maybe 100 feet down the left side. Mike turned it over and went OB on the road a couple hundred feet further. Ron and Cam both were safe farther down the fairway on their shots. I think Cam made it across the parking lot safely but Ron tin cupped two on the lot before getting across but outside putting range. Mike crushed his shot almost too far past the basket but was IB. He overthrew his 40 ft putt and missed the comebacker. Ken's second shot was to the classic position to set up for an easy four. But his third shot clipped the tree as he threw to the pin and it came up short of putting.
I think the dynamics in the top group were that the three were chasing Ken and trying extra hard and getting penalized for too much risk. Ken ended up playing conservative relative to their play and beat them. But he didn't have to play that well to hold them off and that allowed players from the other cards like Barry to pull closer. There were at least 150 people in the gallery which I think may make the players try for great shots when the lay up might be the better play.

Barry's 58 today was a testament to the great palyer that he is. We talked about it in the morning when the winds started picking up that anyone able to shoot in the 50's was going to make a huge leap.
Holes 11 & 12 are fair. They make you play smart and are truly risk reward holes. Add in the winds that were blowing and you have what might be 2 of the toughest back to back holes in the sport. I was caddying for Larry Leonard on the third card and everyone in that group took their "safe" 5's with the exception of Leyva. He had the oppurtunity to crush his third shot and the wind pushed it down before it could come back in bounds.
This course is not about who can throw the fartherest or who's the best putter etc.
What it takes to succeed here is for you to be at the top of your physical and mental game. If you push the course it will push back. This is but one of hundreds of reasons why it is the premier event in disc golf.

Leyviar rocks again!! I think the guy may actually be Mr Gadget with a cannon in place of an arm. He's torn up the long holes:
Hole 5 (1093'): birdie 4, birdie 4, birdie 4
Hole 11 (1195'): birdie 4! (One of only for so in the first 3 rounds.), par 5, bogey 6
Hole 12 (888'): Birdie 4, Eagle 3!!, birdie 4
He's 7 under on just those 3 holes!
3rd place after 3 rounds is awesome. Tear em up Craig!

I added a bunch of video clips to my personal web space that should be cool viewing both of the course layout and some of the action too. I took this on Saturday with my daughter, Erika - watch out Juliana! (Actually Erika is my good excuse for not being a better player along with her brother and sister.)
The goal of the course footage is to simulate the helicopter flyby they do on TV. Some action shots are mixed in since they work great to give an idea of the holes layout (and my free space is limited to 80MB).
http://home.earthlink.net/~cya.discgolf/ Click on "USDGC Home Video" on the bottom of the page.
Enjoy it - I hope you dont have dial up
PS: There are a few files that have not loaded due to some issues that Earthlink is having. Hopefully I will have that fixed soon. Sorry.

Mike, I thought that you qualified for this event. Why aren't you playing? I would have been there in a heart beat if I qualified. And by the looks of it we'd have the largest 970 and under side bet pool in the history of disc golf!
Chuck, I think your explanation is the obvious one, but I don't agree with it. Most of these guys have had to steel themselves mentally and physically for years. They have played in big events and for large purses and in front of large galleries many times. In short, they are professionals. Certainly Ken may have some advantage in this area, but in watching the top players play this year at big events I have noticed that just as often as not a player willing to take risks and go for the knock out punch will win as often as the one that plays conservatively (as if that is even a possibility at Rock Hill).
It looks to me like Ken Climo is using the tried and true formula that ball golf greats such as Nicklaus & Woods use on tough major championship courses. Play conservatively - try to par all the tough holes, bag the birdies on the easy ones and let the other guys try the heroics - 9 times out of 10, they will crash and burn.
I watched Climo play the tough Michigan Cass Benton course in World's 2000 where he set the (then) course record - he threw conservative layups on the tough holes, got his pars, and took advantage of the birdie holes. Besides being tremendously talented, he also is one of the best course managers to ever play the game.

If I count right, that's 14 birdies in a row to finish between regulation and playoff. Uhhh, that's not bad. Of course Scott Martin's 8 in a row earlier didn't [*****] either.
Yes, birdies all around til the end. That was fantastic! I really hope they can get the 2003 USDGC Video out for sale ASAP. I will pay double, no triple, for some kind of early release!
Great job by the Live Scoring staff!!!
Danny,
we'll have t tell those guys to get us a 3 hour video from the event for this year. Yeah, I want FULL coverage, and i'll pay premium as well!
How far away was Ken's last putt?
Great job Theo -- thanks!
Barry and Ken were unbelievable.

Regarding video of USDCG play and the Course that I had announced last night:
I was courteously and professionally asked by USDGC to remove the images from public display. I complied immediately.
Several people told me that they really enjoyed them and that it helped bring the course (terrain, obstacles, sightlines, etc) to life in their mind in a way that still images simply cannot do - even the spectacular galleries provided by USDGC/Matt Peckham.
Until that time that I have signed a publication agreement, I have decided to invite anyone who is interested to come personally to my private collection to view the clips. Please email me at dave@marchant.com and I will let you know how you can access them privately and at no charge. I will try to respond to requests quickly - after I put my girls to bed and play a quick 18 at Cameron Yards.

wow, that was just insane. the final playoff should have been sponsored by Red Bull. 10 holes of birdies. 18, 1, 17, 18, 1, 17, 18, 1, 17, 18. It was like the speed golf competition at Toboggan. Exhausting, and I had to find a new way to show every shot...
The photos will be up tomorrow. I will have a few on the main section of the site.
Trust me, if you missed it live, you missed the most intense final round EVER. Barry threw 4 perfect drives on hole 18, made 3 perfect upshots, nailed 1 monster putt.
Get this. Barry birdied 15, 16, 17, 18, 18, 1, 17, 18, 1, 17, 18, 1, 17, 18. All in a row.
Talk about insanity. He almost aced 17 in the last playoff round. His spike hyzer hit the top of the rim and rolled 25 feet away.

Thanks should go out to the USDGC staff for the constant updates. As fast as the groups came in and turned cards over to TD Brian Graham, they went to Leila and Steve for the internet updates. And USDGC staff were out on the course using the PDGA's handheld scoring system to send continual updates back to the Championship command central, making sure that you all had the hole by hole scoring for the top two cards.
The course looked spectacular, the weather was amazing all four days, the staff on and off the course worked hard to make sure the players and spectators had a great experience, and the players acted professionally and put on the disc golf show of a lifetime.
Congratulations to Barry Schultz, Ken Climo, and all the other great golfers who made this a memorable week at the premiere event in all of disc golf. This is the standard to which all tournaments should strive. It's not just a tournament. It's an event. Thank you, Jonathan and Harold.

Thank you USDGC staff for making it possible to follow the action so well. This is the one event that has the chance to elevate disc golf in the eyes of the media - if that is ever going to happen. I can't wait to buy the video.
Congratulations to Timo Pursio and Jesper Lundmark of Team Scandinavia for their outstanding showings in their first USDGC (tied for ninth and tied for fifteenth respectively).

Hole 12 ("888") was configured differently for rounds 1 and 2 than it has been in the past. In all, it played over 1.5 strokes easier in rounds 1 and 2 than it did in rounds 3 and 4. For those curious, here are the scoring averages by round:
<TABLE BORDER=1><TR><TD>Round</TD><TD>All</TD><TD>Top20 </TD></TR><TR><TD>1</TD><TD>4.25</TD><TD>3.85 </TD></TR><TR><TD>2</TD><TD>4.16</TD><TD>3.60 </TD></TR><TR><TD>3</TD><TD>5.72</TD><TD>5.55 </TD></TR><TR><TD>4</TD><TD>5.94</TD><TD>5.50 </TD></TR><TR><TD></TD></TR></TABLE>
The staff of this tournament deserves a standing ovation. What a show they put on! The scoring, updates, and pictures were constantly updated as each player finished.
I think this is the first time ever I have read a thread without seeing the haters posting negative comments.

jinx!!!
Round 3 was more windy than the others. I would estimate 10-15mph during the morning. I wasn't there in the afternoon, but I heard that it calmed down a little bit. The National Weather Service in Charlotte recorded a highest sustained wind of 17, with a maximum gust of 21.
The wind was out of the NE. For those familiar with the course, that means mainly R->L on 5,6,7; head and side on 9,10,11; mainly L->R on 16,17,18; and almost dead downwind on 13 and the approach on 12. Of course there was swirling and variation for those that may have felt it differently.
The scores were up by about 3 strokes. Here is a breakdown of how each hole changed for round 3:
<TABLE BORDER=1><TR><TD>Hole</TD><TD>Round 3</TD><TD>Round 1,2,4</TD><TD>Diff </TD></TR><TR><TD>1</TD><TD>2.96</TD><TD>2.70</TD><TD> 0.25 </TD></TR><TR><TD>2</TD><TD>4.05</TD><TD>4.08</TD><TD>-0.03 </TD></TR><TR><TD>3</TD><TD>3.09</TD><TD>2.89</TD><TD> 0.21 </TD></TR><TR><TD>4</TD><TD>4.06</TD><TD>4.00</TD><TD> 0.06 </TD></TR><TR><TD>5</TD><TD>5.83</TD><TD>5.55</TD><TD> 0.28 </TD></TR><TR><TD>6</TD><TD>2.95</TD><TD>2.96</TD><TD>-0.01 </TD></TR><TR><TD>7</TD><TD>2.73</TD><TD>2.64</TD><TD> 0.08 </TD></TR><TR><TD>8</TD><TD>4.18</TD><TD>4.03</TD><TD> 0.15 </TD></TR><TR><TD>9</TD><TD>4.53</TD><TD>4.05</TD><TD> 0.48 </TD></TR><TR><TD>10</TD><TD>4.71</TD><TD>4.22</TD><TD> 0.49 </TD></TR><TR><TD>11</TD><TD>7.09</TD><TD>6.36</TD><TD> 0.74 </TD></TR><TR><TD>12</TD><TD>5.72</TD><TD>5.94</TD><TD>-0.22 </TD></TR><TR><TD>13</TD><TD>3.41</TD><TD>3.25</TD><TD> 0.16 </TD></TR><TR><TD>14</TD><TD>4.50</TD><TD>4.79</TD><TD>-0.29 </TD></TR><TR><TD>15</TD><TD>3.21</TD><TD>3.18</TD><TD> 0.03 </TD></TR><TR><TD>16</TD><TD>3.68</TD><TD>3.68</TD><TD>-0.00 </TD></TR><TR><TD>17</TD><TD>3.41</TD><TD>2.92</TD><TD> 0.49 </TD></TR><TR><TD>18</TD><TD>4.27</TD><TD>4.24</TD><TD> 0.03 </TD></TR><TR><TD>Total</TD><TD>74.36</TD><TD>71.46</TD><TD> 2.90 </TD></TR><TR><TD></TD></TR></TABLE>
Holes 9,10,11, and 17 accounted for over 2 strokes difference.
For the top 20 finishers, all 20 of them took a 2 on hole 17 in round 3.
(Note: For hole 12 stats in this table, rounds 1 and 2 were excluded.)
I am stunned! I had to catch an early flight out of Charlotte to make it here to San Diego and stopped watching the final round when Barry rolled OB on his 2nd shot on hole 11 with Kenny about 5 strokes in the lead. Barely made it to my flight, dragged in to the office at 6:30 AM and find out that BARRY WON??!!! Now I really wish I could have hung around!!
The USDGC is so far beyond the rest of the field that there is little comparison. This year it meant cancelling classes, taking frantic last minute dashes to airports to catch overpriced, overbooked flights, and dropping more than $1000 in expenses. Was it worth it? OF COURSE!!!!
Mucho thanks to Johnathan, Harold, Paul and Melissa Ashmore, and the rest of the staff for making us feel like professionals. Hope to cya next year /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

I wanted to share my observations about playing in my first USDGC. I received an invite as the NY State rep. Because I'm so busy with work and doing behind-the-scenes disc work, i get to play about 1 or 2 rounds of golf a month at the Warwick course. As a result, my game is horrible. I am still trying to figure out how my new plastic flies. My mechanics are terrible. My putting is scary bad. The Winthrop course is not a course for someone with "bad game". Having said that, it is by far and away the most fun I've ever had playing Disc Golf. It is by far and away the most challenging, punishing, mentally grueling course I've ever played. There needs to be a very specific purpose for every shot. I play one of the more statistically difficult courses in the country: Warwick blue-blue. But on many shots at Warwick, if I throw a wild shot either on a drive or approach I can salvage the hole by offsetting the bad shot with some good scrambling. At Winthrop almost every bad shot is immediately punished with OB, which automatically adds a stroke to your score. Winthrop epitomizes the notion of risk vs. reward. I finished next-to-last among all competitors who actually played all 4 rounds. I averaged 86 for my 4 rounds and I am extremely embarassed at my showing. I know I am a better player than my scoring indicated. But this course punished me. Fairly. I read all the posts and I'd like to address some of the questions and concerns about the fairness of some specific holes. And remember I am a player that went to Winthrop with a 950 rating and left a lot lower than that. THE COURSE DOES NOT HAVE AN UNFAIR HOLE, in my opinion. I waffled on whether #12 in the 888' position we played in rounds 3 and 4 was fair or not. I came to the conclusion that it is fair. Hole #4 is one hole that I would like to see a change regarding the O/B. A "yellow pond" separates the fairway from the green. Between the edge of the "rope pond" and the pin is a horseshoe-shaped stand of tall evergreens. What makes this hole arguably unfair is that if you clearly pass over the O/B and at any point happen to have your disc roll back into the O/B you have to go all the way back to the other side of the "pond" to the drop zone. For example, if you clear the "pond", and then on your next shot when you're putting the disc catches an edge and rolls down the slope into the "pond" you have to "travel back in time" and go back to the drop zone from where you came 2 shots ago. That happens. And it is painful. The layout of the hole itself isn't unfair. What I think is a bit too brutal is what the penalty is if you clearly pass over the O/B and then roll back into it on a later shot. Hole #5 is an awesome awesome hole. From the tee shot forward you're thinking placement. Everyone has a point from which they have to decide when and from where thay may decide to throw over the corner of the lake to the peninsula pin. Or even decide to go around the lake, which means extra distance and strokes. I got anywhere between 5's and 8's. I should be able to consistently throw 375' drives but my mechanics were so messed up that I struggled with this hole. Hole #11 is FAIR. If you throw 3 325' throws that are well-placed, you are left with about a 200' approach shot for you 4th shot on this 1150' Par 5. Winds, hard fairways, and lots of O/B make this harder than it sounds. Players get in trouble because they attempt to cut corners or throw over O/B areas and don't make it. I took a 7, circle 7, circle 8, and double circle 11 here. #12 is very difficult because of the narrow sliver of fairway protected by trees and O/B left and right for the first 500' of fairway. Play smart with 3 good accurate throws and you'll be OK. One poor decision or bad execution and you're a mess. I took a circle 7 and a circle 8 here. It's a very fine line here. #14, the Clown's Mouth, is a great hole, in my opinion. Playing safe isn't always safe. If your "safe" play to the mando slides a little bit left or right of center, you have a tough 2nd shot. Even if you make the mando on your drive, there is an O/B parking lot between the fairway and the green, and the stadium is O/B the entire last 150 feet to the pin. Pick your poison here. Play safe or aggressive and deal with the consequences of your decision. I had nothing to lose so I played aggressive all 4 rounds. I played this hole great, relative to my overall skill level. I made the mandatory 3 of my 4 rounds. I ended up with scores of 4,4,4, and circle 6 on this Par 4. I had 25' putts for birdie 3 on 2 of my 4 rounds on this hole. Hole #17 is a knee-buckler, because of the water, the hay bales, and all the horror stories we've heard. But every player that doesn't get their shot inside the hay bales walks away from this hole angry with themselves. There's 3 ways to play this hole: a sweeping high spike hyzer (for righties); straight at it; or slightly anhyzer or a forehand. What makes this hole "difficult" is that if you miss on your first shot the 2nd shot's importance and difficulty is magnified. Your head gets in the way. After 3 misses you go the drop zone 80' from the pin and you're throwing 7. I carded 2 triple circle 8's and 2 birdie 2's. For the top pro's it appears to be an easy 2. My week at Winthrop ranks right at the top of my list of the best disc experiences of my 29-year disc career. You must play this course! Thanks to Harold Duvall, Jon Lyksett, Jonathon Poole, and Brian Graham for a spectacular event and awesome course. And the action was pretty amazing as well.
This was the most AMAZING tourney I have ever witnessed. I didn't care if Klimo or Barry won..I just was glad they played perfect until the final 10 extra playoff holes..
I felt like it was Groundhog Day (the movie) on each hole, It was like after the 3rd set of holes.. we knew exactly were their discs would go and distance and angle..hole #18 Barry would go to the right a bit of the tree farther than Climo..and then Climo would hit that tiny tree and fall down below it..on their drives.. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif ...17, 18, 1, 17, 18, 1, 17, 18, 1, 17, 18 and then the birdie by Barry and the 3 by Klimo. I had walked back and forth so much at that point.. I missed seeing the doink by Klimo but I could hear it.. the crowd went wild and cheered Barry on.. and I'm sure he jumped 4 feet off the ground..and all I could see at that point was the longest hug between the two champs.. that is true sportsmanship right there.
Klimo's speech was so meaningful (what a first class pro)... I love to see a match when you have each player cheer the other one on.. makes the game fun to watch and the players.
Craig's speech was so sincere. First he thanked God /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif A man after my own heart as a fan.. then he thanked his wife and had tears in his eyes.. that was so touching.. Congrats Craig L. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif
Great playing by all the guys and ladies.. you guys were all awesome.. glad I went to see the top card play and we would stop and watch the other groups at times as they passed thru..on holes next to us.
With the VIP pass we even got an awesome Aviar putter w/ a sweet stamp on it ..it looked like hole #1 and I had Barry Schultz sign it (won't ever throw it i'm sure )and got a nice pic w/ him.. Way to go Barry... you ROC...
Way to Go Georgia !!!

What a great day to be a geek. DirecTV Football all day, and my laptop keeping me updated on my fantasy team (yick) and the hole by hole updates from USDGC. AWESOME. Congrats to Barry for the win and Ken for the usual show of skill and more importantly, class. Also congrats to Leyviar on his fine finish. You may not be an Texas boy anymore, but we still claim you. And just an inside for Craig, I'll let you rag on my "Donkeys" next time I see you. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif
Barry went 3,3,3,3 on hole 6, a hole that averaged 2.96 for the field, and 2.69 for the top 20 finishers.
Barry went 3,4,3,3 on hole 7, a hole that averaged 2.67 for the field, and 2.48 for the top 20 finishers.
Barry only had 3 bogies and 2 doubles for the full 4 rounds.

<TABLE BORDER=1><TR><TD>Hole</TD><TD>Average</TD><TD>Birdie</TD><TD>Par</TD><TD>Bogey</TD><TD>Other </TD></TR><TR><TD>16</TD><TD>3.33</TD><TD>56</TD><TD>22</TD><TD>2</TD><TD>0 </TD></TR><TR><TD>8</TD><TD>3.61</TD><TD>41</TD><TD>31</TD><TD>6</TD><TD>2 </TD></TR><TR><TD>18</TD><TD>3.66</TD><TD>42</TD><TD>26</TD><TD>9</TD><TD>3 </TD></TR><TR><TD>2</TD><TD>3.69</TD><TD>31</TD><TD>43</TD><TD>6</TD><TD>0 </TD></TR><TR><TD>4</TD><TD>3.71</TD><TD>37</TD><TD>30</TD><TD>8</TD><TD>4 </TD></TR><TR><TD>9</TD><TD>3.75</TD><TD>32</TD><TD>40</TD><TD>5</TD><TD>3 </TD></TR><TR><TD>10</TD><TD>3.79</TD><TD>26</TD><TD>45</TD><TD>9</TD><TD>0 </TD></TR><TR><TD>14</TD><TD>4.38</TD><TD>15</TD><TD>28</TD><TD>30</TD><TD>7 </TD></TR><TR><TD></TD></TR></TABLE>
I can't believe how easy the top 20 make hole 18 look. It is, in my mind, way harder than 4 and 9, and probably harder than 2 also. The full-field stats bear this out, as hole 18 only ranks easier than holes 10 and 14.
Par 5's:
<TABLE BORDER=1><TR><TD>Hole</TD><TD>Average</TD><TD>Birdie</TD><TD>Par</TD><TD>Bogey</TD><TD>Other </TD></TR><TR><TD>5</TD><TD>4.85</TD><TD>27</TD><TD>41</TD><TD>10</TD><TD>2 </TD></TR><TR><TD>12</TD><TD>5.53</TD><TD>13</TD><TD>11</TD><TD>6</TD><TD>10 </TD></TR><TR><TD>11</TD><TD>5.80</TD><TD>5</TD><TD>31</TD><TD>27</TD><TD>17 </TD></TR><TR><TD></TD></TR></TABLE>
As mentioned earlier, one could argue hole 11 really is a par 6, even for the highest finishers.
Scott Martin was the only player with 4 rounds under 65.
Ken Climo was the only player with 2 rounds under 60.
Devin Frederick shot 74,74,74,75. Walt Haney shot 65,64,64,65. (1 shot spread.)
Josh Connell shot a 93 and a 69. (24 shot spread.)
3 of the 8 players who shot in the 50s also shot in the 70s (Branch, Russell, Vesala).
Three players with ratings under 975 cashed (Kernan, Turner, Jernigan).
Eleven players with ratings over 1000 did not cash.

Who owned which holes? Below are the people who birdied (or better) each hole the most times out of 4 rounds. (For example, Parlaman and Haggadone were the only ones to birdie hole 1 all 4 rounds.)

Notes:
- Russell, Arther, and Sprague were the only 3 to get a 5 (or less) on hole 11 all 4 rounds.
- Michael Johansen went -5 for 4 rounds on hole 16.

I would like to express my gratitude toward Kelly Watson, the PDGA State Coordinator for Arkansas, for allowing me the opportunity to go play in this years USDGC.
For many of us, being the State Rep is the only way we will ever got to play in the USDGC. I was more than aware that I didn't "earn" my way in to this showcase, and I tried my best to act like I belonged. It is an awkward position to be in, but I feel like I earned my keep.
I'd also like to thank the many players, and others, that helped entertain my son, Caleb, as I had to "abandon" him during my rounds. Caleb had a great time!
So many others to thank that I won't even start for fear of forgetting someone.
I had a tremendous time, played with some great players, and am so happy to have had a chance to go.
Thanks Kelldog!!!

The tournament was a blast! Thanks for all of the kind words for the tournament staff. It was a pleasure to once again be working with all of the dedicated volunteers that Harold and Jonathan assembled for the event.
As Kenny and Barry were headed from basket 1 to tee #17 for the third time, Kenny's caddie, Rob Parlaman and I agreed that it was probably going to take an ace to end the playoff. Barry promptly slammed his disc off the basket on his next throw. Brian Schweberger almost fell off the bench behind the tee he was so excited.
Had Kenny hit the putt on hole #18 to extend the playoff, both players had agreed to start back at hole #1 and then on to play the rest of the course until it was decided.
Following the awards ceremony, I asked one of the Swedish players how he liked the event. In his best english and with a lot of emotion, he told me that is was better than he could have ever dreamed.

Matt, your pictures rule!
Congrats to 'Team Seneca' ... Craig Gangloff, John Gregory (JG), and Bryan Gawler all cashed! I'm thinking of changing the first letter of my last name to a "G" ... it seems to be the secret to success in my neck of the woods.
if climos 57 of 2003 is rated at 1049...what is his 49 rated at from 1999? is that round like revered as the best round ever in DG? or was the course different then?
Ellis, the course was way different back then.

Rodney,
You need to compile a list of stats showing who has hit THE TREE on hole #1 the most and how long did they laugh.
Forrest
Good stat Forrest.
Ryan Renz did some groundbreaking research in this area a couple years ago. His graphs were very telling.
So far, I have these totals:
<TABLE BORDER=1><TR><TD>Who</TD><TD>First Tree Hits </TD></TR><TR><TD>Forrest</TD><TD>2 </TD></TR><TR><TD>*******</TD><TD>1 </TD></TR><TR><TD></TD></TR></TABLE>
I haven't been cleared to release the name of the other known offender.
Chuck is working on a system for rating the ensuing laughter.

An interesting comparison-
Pete Middlecamp- United States Amateur Champion
PDGA #19026 Player Rating- 982 USDGC Total- 293
Jeff Ash- PDGA Am Worlds Advanced Master Champion
PDGA #17843 Player Rating- 948 USDGC Total- 299
I have no idea what the significance of that is, but there you have it.
Oh, another interesting Jeff Ash self-promotional note- I set a goal, and made it known to many, that I was going to break 300./clipart/happy.gif
I also like to put my name on discs that belong to other people./clipart/proud.gif
