I'll have more tomorrow but for now, scores uploaded to PDGA and all fees paid online.

It was a blast wasn't it? I hope the players were happy with their payout choices.

Once again a class act @ Centennial. Where the hell was FURDOG though...doesn't he live in Owasso ? Anyway, had a great time even though my score didn't reflect it. Seems like the only time I really got into a groove the freakin' lightning started going crazy and we all played it safe and came in for 20. Then it was bogey bogey again, lol. Oh well what are you gonna do. Great Ctp prizes and donations, Ring o' Fire was SICK ! I along with a few others were amazed at the skills of a 13 yr. old collecting 20 from WISE on hole 19. (I barely made it across....the second time, lol)
Thanks to Team Slack for my delicious sammich. Also want to give MC a shoutout for hanging with me in dubs friday night, took along time to get going but we cashed ! Got 27 Arkansas State Tag, 27 Wafda, and 31 Tdsa...I'm out and good night !

i agree with hinds.
wise may run his mouth and be silly on here, but he puts on one helluva show. i cant remember the last time i played a tournament on a course as well manicured as centennial was. obviously i'm a big fan of "pick your payout" events and this was no different... except that he had most of his private collection to pick through! The rings were incredible, he had to have given away at least $1k in merch.
and hats off to kevin. in fact, the 40 players that got whupped by this guy (he's 13, by the way) need to take their hats off to him as well. his 997-rated first round was just fun to watch. This kid will be the next Devan or Coda, mark my words.
Hope everyone made it home safe, and I look forward to playing this tourney again next year, come rain or shine. :)

I don't mean to sound redundant but what a great job Dave, Pennekamp and Karla did. The course looked great and I wasn't sure that ring of fire was going to end, tons of stuff..
Lots of others pitched in so thanks to those folks too..
Thanks to everyone in my division for playing, I had a GREAT time.
I can't wait for the 3rd Annual Centennial cup in 2011!!!

Well I got to sleep in till 8 this morning and it felt good. I can't express enough that couldn't have done this without Carla Barton, Dave Pennikamp, Mike Treat and Dan Bougher. Andlets not forget the great lunch that Jay Slack had for us also. That was some good grub. These people made being TD of my 1st sanctioned event a breeze. Even if we had filled it would have run smooth.
Thanks to Gary Nail for his donation and for the tons of pictures he took. I'm sure we will see those soon.
For those that were on the fence due to the weather forecasts, shame on you. The players that committed to play were treated with beautifull weather, a geat layout in top condition and their choice of some very nice collectable discs. I know there were several very happy players. One player found a nice 11-time firebird for $25. I even let go several USDGC rocs for $30.
I think most of the players were looking forward to hole 19 more than the huge ring of fire. I only ended up giving out $80 on hole 19. One player came within inches of hitting me for $200 on that one.
The tournament ace pot was not hit and the throw off resulted in, our own Wayne Forest taking 1st for $100, Dough Duff $70 anf Kevin (the phenom) Jones getting $40. This kid also hit me for $20 on hole 19.
I look forward to doing this again next year. We will fill this event next year and it will be Am only, pick you payout. I am considering taking more that 90 and running tee times. Either way the players will be treated like pros.
Thanks to all of the players that came out. YOU made this a success. No complaining (expect for Treat when I didn't yell fire) and I saw nothing but smiles all day.
What more can I say? Thanks to all of you.

That was a funny deal. I hadn't faired to well in the Ring of Fire, hitting two in a row was the best I could do.
Then Dave put the traveler out there. Not sure why but I had that thing measured, 4 in a row no problem.
We were down to like 3 or 4 of us, ready, aim, then nothing, finally everyone else putted but me, and they all missed. So, everyone walked up, picked up their disc and acted like it had been missed so everyone was back in. I made eye contact with the two Daves, and I said"You never said Fire!!". I guess I looked like a sad little first grader compalining to the teacher..
I knew Dave felt bad but it was no big deal. I am glad Micky Brookshire ended up with it.
Good times...

This was a great tourney , I could of shot better rounds and given roger a better race but all the people I played with were great.I loved the course prep, the flags on every basket was cool.Dave and the staff / chef did a great job,and dave having some of his personal stash there had to be one of the highlights , thank God I didnt have a pocket full of cash.I did take a couple of sweeties home for my pay out though.Ring of fire rocked ,I've never been kicked out for doing anything too well . Hitting two in a row was cool but setting out and watching all this cool stuff keep coming up that I had no chance of getting was stressing me out. Then dave says I'm back in for Joe's Tourney and not only am I cold because I've been out so long we switch putters with are neighbor , I doink it of course.Dave says one more but he's rolling the basket away , then the traveler is brought in and on the winning putt it was so loud from the heckling I had to look at dave to see him say fire and throw at the same time . I cant believe it ,I played four rounds of the fire and won three . I hope this goes too my head.I came out with a full bag except the one I donated to the 19th hole.Next year cant get here fast enough!

Can I say something? I know that you all haven't heard from me since the ring of fire...:p:p:D.....but I would like to say....OFF THE HOOK, that only comes somewhat close to defining this event. Wise you put together a group of people (including the city of Owasso) that pulled off one of the most professional and organized events that I've participated in!! Events like this is why I love playing this game, THANK YOU to everyone that helped make this event happen...YOU ALL ROCK!!!
It does kinda suck for me that Teresa keeps rubbing in my face that this BIG *** Centennial Cup trophy on my coffee table is hers and not mine, but that just adds to the fun factor for me!!!
Mickey.....you should have been OUT of the ring...just like you should have been out of placing. Good golf, I enjoyed having you on my card, you lucky sucka..
Roger Knight, good win...I almost enjoyed your consistant golf game....and I will be coming after that #20 Tulsa tag that you took to Arkansas with you.
Last I want to send out a request to whoever picked the first run berry bosses out of the cherry stock that Wise made available for payout...could you give me a call and maybe make a deal!!
Wait wait wait...one more thing....I want to thank "The Phenom" Kevin for the putter that enable me to win the Twisted Tournament entry at the ring of fire...:D:D

Anyone interested in some Friday or Saturday night golf at Centennial?
With HWY 169 like it is in the evenings getting out here, it is hard to have a weeknight mini. I have purchased led lights for all of the baskets and am willing to run some night events.
I know we have a lot of night events now and this would just be another one. But since Wayne is done with the fundraising for Haikey, that should put us back to once amonth with Nicholson.
Interested?
If not night golf, is there any intrest in a 9:00am Sunday mornig mini?

Could you post water level of the Centennial Park River the night before in inches/feet instead of centimeters/meters? Some of us are not ready to convert to the metric system. Perhaps just a beaver dam height and location upstream or downstream report would suffice.

None of us have stepped foot in a church for a while and I was wondering if you could send some brothers and sisters out to offer fellowship to our group. Perhaps even baptize me and a few other in the Centennial River. Rose Bowl Throw July 24th Centennial Park Owasso, Ok
http://www.tulsadiscsports.org/rosebowlthrow.html
This will be a one day event to raise money for the Owasso Band to travel to the Rose Bowl this year. A local band patron contacted me about a disc tournament. I agreed to run it if they would provide all of the volunteers and do all of the fund raising.
They have done a great job so far. Many local merchants have gotten on board with prize donations. Owasso really supports their band and sports. I expect lunch to be provided also. You may hear some mouths running(or one in particular) that this is for my kid. They couldn't be more wrong, this is for about 80-90 of them. But I am very proud of my son for making the drumline.
Please come out and help them meet their goals. They will be giving a ton of stuff away. I will be digging ($$$) out of my pockets again for the Hole 19 adventure.
This will be a great event for many first timers to see disc golf in a tournament setting. With all of the youth in town behind it, I'd expect to see some more new disc golfers on the scene in a few months. It's real easy to get hooked on this sport.
For sign ups, please see the contact information on the flyer.

Nice pre-emptive disclaimer though I wasn't necessarily going bring it up here until you said something about it.:p

Nowdays the parents do the selling by just bringing the candy bars to work to sell to their associates while the kid sets home and plays video games.

Man, this is the best band fundraiser I have ever heard of. As far as I am concerned this beats the heck out of candy bars, Tulip bulbs, and car washes. Lets see, you're appointed, can be removed at any time upon the board's decision. Have multiple people using your facility for events. Contract out all your minis. If they ever get together, you're McCrystal'd.

Well Dave that is all good and fine. If you want to talk about TD's who aren't running minis don't forget to include yourself in that.
For someone that wanted to bring DG to Owasso for a year you did pretty good. Yet a year later when 169 turns into a orange barrel dodge marathon and you can't depend on the crowd from Tulsa driving up for your minis you quit your Monday minis all together because your numbers might be too low and you screw the locals who might have wanted to play anyway.

I also took into consideration that it would not conflict with any TDSA event and I will only have them if there is no conflict. You could do a lot for the club by just shutting your mouth for a while.

The Rose Bowl Throw, Saturday July 24th, Centennial Park, Owasso
Just a quick reminder that this event is coming up quickly. Kevin Hendricks, who is doing all of the work gathering sponsors has done a great job and continues to bring even more to the table. Subway will be providing a free lunch for the players.
Some of the local merchants that have provided merchandise or sponsorship support are:
Robertson Tires
McAlisters Deli
Rib Crib
Ruby Tuesday
Chili's
Logans Steak House
CiCI's Pizza
Delta Cafe
Allied Insurance
Farmers Insurance
Subway
Owasso Family Chiropractic
Mazzio's
Compadres
Lowes
Walmart
The merchants have donated lots of food and merchandise to be given away. We even have Lowes giving a $300 gas grill. Walmart with gift cards and best buy also.
We will have several CTPS and a raffle for the big prizes. Trophies wil also be given to division winners.
The course will be all shorts for the first round, since we have a first timer division, then the second round we will play some golf! And of course ring of fire and the now infamous hole 19 cash give away.
So come on out and help send the Owasso band to the Rose Bowl Parade. We may even try to have band members out with their instruments. This could be a great fundraiser.......you pay them a dollar to not play during your drive., or out bid someone on your card and pay them to play during his drive.:D

Those Owasso Band kids need to understand that there are no "free rides" in life and it sounds like some of the parents of these kids need to learn and teach the same thing.:p

If I give these kids a couple of bucks to play during Duff's drive, how do I know they just aren't going to pocket the money for their beer fund?
You should sell punch cards for $20 so all they have to do is just punch the ticket. That way the money is accounted for by the TD. Otherwise I'm going to just show up with my drum or my guitar and play my "Frito Bandito" song on the tee instead.:)
Also, are cash donations tax deductable like the Ice Bowl and the United Way events?
And what about song requests? Do any of them know how to play "Ride of the Valkeries"?

Yes, donations are tax deductible. They can be made to the Owasso band patrons.

Night golf is On! We'll tee at 8:00pm.
The course is looking great. We have trimmed tree limbs to open some holes up and offer a few new lines to throw. The course will be mowed, trimmed, baskets flagged and greens cut. We will have parking at the pavillion, so no long walks.
We are installing a permanent second practice basket between the pavillion and hole 1's tee. This will also be the new ring of fire basket.
The event is shaping up well. Lunch will be provided by Subway. With all of the added give aways, looks like most everyone will go home with something and some one with a new gas grill. I will also be putting up the private stash again for payout purposes. I'm going to make sure ALL players leave happy. I may have do dig out some $$$ to give away but you know I always do that. Maybe no Darrell dollars but we will have hole 19 $20's.

I just got back from the course while meeting with the city. Happen to see something in the back of the course, went to investigate and found a gourp of guys playing in a golf cart.
Real nice one too. Lift kit, 4x4, custom paint. Hated to tell them, that it won't fly out there. I told them the local police will hammer them for it. They told me they were Tulsa cops. I said, great, but this isn't Tulsa. Then they agreed, Owasso Police are much harder than Tulsa. They thanked me for the warning and said they wouldn't bring it back out there. I told them, since they are Tulsa Cops, go to Chandler Park. If any one asks just tell them FurDog said it was okay.
I would have to agree. Some one stole my lawn mower out of my garage a week ago. I found out about 5 minutes after they took it. Called 911 and they had them within 2 miles of my house. Multiple burglary charges and drug charges. They will pull you over here for 4mph over.

All holes are in the shorts. We trimmed several trees and hauled it all off. The new 2nd practice basket has been installed between the pavillion and hole one tee. The City's contract mower did not show up to mow the course. We had everything ready for you and just needed it mowed. So, with that I went out to the community and they came through in a HUGE way. P&K Equipment, the local John Deer dealer donated a commercial mower, with a 72" cut. Dam!!!!
Delivered it with a full tank of diesel and picked it up when we were done 8 hours later.
Your course now looks more like Forest Ridge vs a disc golf course. All holes have been mowed to 1.5" and groomed. Trash cans will be delivered today and the parking lot will be marked this evening.
WE ARE READY FOR YOU!!!!!!!!!!
So come on out Saturday for a great day of golf. Be sure to pay Furdog lots of money. He'll do about anything for money.
Sign ups will begin at about 8:00 with rules at 9:30 and tee of right after.
Lunch is being provided by Subway and Walmart donated 10 cases of water. We will have lots of stuff to give away out side of payouts.
Don't forget the $20 hole 19 adventure after your final round.
I'm going to make it a little interesting this time.

The Rose Bowl Throw, Saturday July 24th, Centennial Park, Owasso
Sign ups begin at 8:00am with rules meeting at 9:30.
Subway will be providing a free lunch for the players.
Some of the local merchants that have provided merchandise or sponsorship support are:
Robertson Tires
McAlisters Deli
Rib Crib
Ruby Tuesday
Chili's
Logans Steak House
CiCI's Pizza
Delta Cafe
Allied Insurance
Farmers Insurance
Subway
Owasso Family Chiropractic
Mazzio's
Compadres
Lowes
Walmart
P&K Equipment

Dave is right, took a look at the course today and it definetly looks more like Forest Ridge than a disc golf park. There will be some skips around the around the pins now instead of down and stuck. I will be thier for sure for the 1st rd. Probably not the 2nd seeing as how I need to coach my team at 2..... But everyone else should definetly come out. And bring an extra water bottle, after you have silenced fur-dog and finished teeing you can dump it on him without worry of distraction during your shot...:)

I just got finished playing the course. The friend I was playing with said, "It looks like a championship course."
The course is in awesome shape. The flags were a-flapping in the 25-30 mph gusts. Dave and Penny have gone above and beyond getting the course groomed. The mowed fairways still don't provide much of a skip, but I am sure that is because the grass is so thick from all the rain. Just air shot em all. :D
Thanks Dave and Penny! Looking forward to tomorrow.

Thanks guys, we have worked hard on it. I hope everyone enjoys it.
I also want everyone to remember this is a fund raiser. We want to make an impression on the band, so that next year they are there and we get even more support from the local merchants and they were very kind this year. There will be a lot of new eyes to disc golf out there tomorrow, lets welcome them.
I think that we may have a nice size first timer division.
I will be mixing them in the first round with other players, please help them along and be supportive. We may just gain a few more regular golfers in town. With the course being in the shorts, this shouldn't be a problem.
Also, NO retaliation on Furdog or Lil Moose for their efforts. Either pay up or live with it. I am very gratefull he is filling a gap and helping raise even more money for the event.
This is going to be a fun event. We've worked too hard for it not to be.
Look foward to seeing everyone there in the am.

Where do I start? First of I would like to thank Dave Pennekamp, without him the event would not have been possible. It took both of us working together to get the course ready. On top of that he handled registration and all of the scoring. Also a huge thanks to Mike and Matt Treat for their help.
Also I need to thank my wife Julie, she doesn't play but she was out there all day and said she had a blast! Without her, I couldn't do any of this.
All the players owe a thanks to Kevin Hendricks. Kevin did 100% of the fund raising for the event.
I hope all were happy with some of the prizes they took home.
Big thanks to Best Buy and Khol's for urging their employees to come out an volunteer. This allowed for an additional donation of $1,500. I would like to give an extra thanks to the Kohl's girls and FurDog. They worked hole 2 like it was a slot machine. Between the girls dishing it out and FurDog on the drum all day, hole 2 was the place to be. Had to be the most fun hole on the course. Thanks to Gary Nail, we should see some great photo shots from this hole.
The thanks could go on and on and on to all that helped make this a success.
But most of all I would like to thank each and every player that came out. With out YOU, this couldn't have happened.
With the players, the volunteers, the many great sponsors, hole 2 and the raffle, (by the way did anyone see Duffs new grill?):D
We were able to raise............................(need FurDogs drum roll)...................

I think the 1st timers had a blast. The winner, Bob Haywood, was very suprised. he paid $20 to get in, took home a $25 CTP, $50 in discs and a trophie. I made sure even the non-cashing spots all took a new disc home with them. We also held a separate ring of fire for them.
And I saw Haywood out there last night working with everyone of his new discs.:D

I want to thank Dave for putting me on the "Hottie Hole" with his wife and all the other ladies. Personally I don't think I would have raised hardly any money on my own but when the ladies showed up I didn't have to worry about it anymore.

Twoputt and staff did a great job with this event...It was nice to see all the different faces out there supporting the Owasso band! Everyone I spoke with was having a good time, and I spoke to a few people! It was nice of Twoputt to take care of the first timers the way he did, they are hooked!
The course looked awesome, but you know what really looks good...that new grill on my porch!:D:D And it works great. Teresa and I enjoyed a couple of ribeyes with baked potatoes last night! But we are really enjoying the fact that we won it, I'm glad Twoputt didn't get any raffle tickets. I was in Owasso earlier and stopped by Lowe's, picked me up a cover and a utensil set!
I want to give a huge thank you to Kevin Hendricks!! I had a chance to talk with him for alittle while Saturday, this guy did all this work aquiring sponsors for this event and doesn't even have a kid in the band... He just put forth the effort so that others could go and enjoy the trip! THANK YOU KEVIN!!

Hey Buddy. Connors probably saved that girl's life. You're just PO'd because nobody saved you from getting raped inside the gate. I know Nagele and Bud Johnson really appreciated you after that.:)
On top of that I didn't see you saving that girl that got raped at the car dealership in Owasso a couple of years ago. I guess that's that happens up there when you don't want to pay for the rust proof under coating.
All I'm trying to do is save my people from Tulsa that might be partaking in mind enhancement products tonight at your course. They will probably be leaving around 11pm and all will have to drive through Owasso to get back on the orange barrel welcome mat of 169 and if it's a slow night for the Nazi's then they will be looking to fill a couple of jail cells and Tulsa people might end up missing out of Duff's Doubles.
The least you could do is offer them some space at your house to camp out like I do.:)

Try this -- any of you. Take your local course scorecard and look at the distances. Work through the card with an imaginary player who has 100% accuracy up to 300 feet and 100% accuracy at 30' putts. Therefore, any hole up to 330' is a deuce, any hole up to 630 is a 3, any hole up to 930 is a 4...
You can also try this with a theoretical player who can only drive 250' and only makes putts 20' and in, but can do both 100% of the time.
Yes, this is a theoretical player, and we're not taking into effect uphill and downhill, trees, etc... but since any pro we're talking about can throw more than 300', I think this is a pretty good number. They will also make a lot of putts outside of 30', but for this exercise, we're using 300/30 at 100% as hard numbers. See what those players shoot and see how that compares to the SSA for whatever course you're looking at.
I looked quickly at three courses people would be familiar with -- Renny Gold, Delaveaga and Maple Hill -- and ran the numbers and compared them to tourney SSAs from big events in 2008.
* Renny Gold has an SSA of ~70, and playing 300/30, someone would shoot a 55 in that layout, about a 1085-rated round; playing 250/20, someone would shoot a 65 for a 1028-rated round.
* Delaveaga has an SSA of ~81 for 27 holes, and playing 300/30, someone would shoot a 66, about a 1091-rated round; playing 250/20, someone would shoot a 76 for a 1030-rated round.
* Maple Hill longs has an SSA of ~62.5, and playing 300/30, someone would shoot a 48, about a 1107-rated round; playing 250/20, someone would shoot a 54 for a 1062-rated round.
The theoretical, 300/30, mistake-free player above is averaging more than 50-rating-points higher than any golfer in the PDGA, and that's without landing any drive over 300-feet. The theoretical 250/20, mistake-free player is averaging ~a 1040 on those courses, which would be the 2nd-highest rating in the world right now. Definitely in the top 10 no matter how you slice it. So in theory, 250/20 could put you in the top 10 players in the world, as long as you can do everything right, every time, on pro-level courses.
Sure, driving farther helps, but accuracy and consistency are far more important to scoring well. I don't think not being able to reach 400' holes matters as long as you make sure you take ALL of the short birdies.
Test 300/30 or 250/20 with your local course scorecard, and see how that theoretical pro does against your best scores. And we know that ANY of us are capable of throwing 250/20... it's just a matter of doing it accurately, over and over and over and over and over and over and over...

there have been plenty of times that i havnt beat that score with my whole bag.

Brad, the article was not talking about playing two discs. Its you against an imaginary player and you throw your regular bag.
bravo
Dec 04 2010, 08:39 AM
what i was saying is that i calculated the distances with making all thirty foot putts and figured that a score of sub 50 was possible if the thrower accurately threw an average drive of 240 ft. the only reason i shot even is cause i didn't make all my first putts.
i believe that the scores can go much lower than 50 after playing the round.
