A HUGE thanks to all those that came out last night, all 48 of them!!! I apologize for some of you needing a flash light to finish but we didn't expect so many people. Next week we will have the FREE CTP again. I didn't get it out last night since I gave away $75 in entries to all those that competed at Worlds and finished. Devan "No Show" Owens had to pay last night!
I hope the added OB wasn't too punishing. I will try to get all of the scoring averages done by the end of the week.
Next Monday we will begin flex starts at 5:00pm and the last card will go out at 6:15. No cards out after 6:15, you may not be able to finish in daylight. And as Always, all women recieve free mulligans and 100% payout!

That Chandler vanilla ice cream is paying for a big chunk of the two grand the club puts into the OO every year buddy.
Step on up there if you feel frisky.
Most of those novice guys were probably kids from Drew’s soccer team and you probably bribed them like you bribed the Worlds guys.
Either that or you’re just making some of these names up. Sounds like you need to start selling lights also.
Top Am Woman should have paid $12 not $5 and once again you failed to get results in the paper.
Seems like Frazer went out of his way to get his results in the paper while promoting your Monday event. The least you could do is offer a reach around for your buddy Treat and promote his event on Tuesday night. You don’t even have to call it in because they will take an email.

You’ve never had a problem accepting Am cash on the few times you’ve ever cashed at pro so you ask them.
You can’t sell mullies or drink beer at a sanctioned event so no I’ll never have one and players won’t have to pony up the extra PDGA fee either. The “no beer” part fits your course though and since you’re non-TDSA I don’t want to hear you about you wanting to borrow TDSA water jugs for your event either. Especially since you’re talking about starting a separate club up there. You should be able to afford your own water jugs buddy. I’m sure you’ll bribe someone to get your way though.
For the Record / Right there in black & white it says:
“Want to report a score or send in a notice? Call us at 581-8355 or 800-944-play or e-mail
[email protected]”
It’s no big TDSA secret like some might think though you might need a high school education. Believe or not some of your nov’s might really like it.
This Thursday’s mini will be the biggest ever.
So far I’ve got….
Bugs Bunny

Well they probably ran out of room. They don't normally get results from two courses in one night. Sometimes on a busy sports night they don't get them in at all.
Did you call it in or email it?
I used to call them in but email works best for me now because you don't have to spell out last names for them. I've sent them in as late as 10pm before and they still got in.
BTW, they used to but for some reason they never print CTP or ace for me anymore.

Probably, but just tired of having to dick with him. At least on the other site he has no posting privilages. They were removed by the administrator. :D
I'll probably copy them here but I am going to move more towards the other site. It is just more accessable to the majority of players. Not that many are PDGA members anymore, so the non-members can only read, not participate.
Perfect example: while I'm typing this post I get a reply on the other site from Thong Le. He can't get on over here and there are many more like that. With all of the new players coming in and many of those not seeing the benefit of the PDGA, they need a place to communicate with each other. It used to be here but sadly, those days are for ever gone.:(
Plus, no discussion moderators trolling the threads and removing anything they deem unsuitable.
In addition to that, I am trying to get everthing hashed out to establish a true handicap league, with a year end tournament and fat payouts.
A handicap league has never been done around here, that I know of.
This would be a totaly new concept. One division events! No age protection, no playing up one week then down the next. No more separation of players. You against the field.
I think the players around town are ready for something like this.
What would you think about some thing like that Paul?

I think you should still post results here too. I like this website more than the dg'rus one, personally.
Yeah a handicap league sounds awesome. I especially like it because I would consider myself an improving golfer. It would give me a chance to play above my current skill level. Plus I think a handicap system really shows how you stack up against others. If you need some help running spreadsheets keeping up with stats, I am pretty good at that type of thing.

I'm looking at setting it up with Discgolf U. They have everything. I have submitted the Owasso course but it hasn't been approved yet. Once that is done, then I can begin buliding the league. Not sure of all the details but you can be assured Paul, like when I told you not to worry about the Team event. I just like doing events that are a little from the norm. I think a league could be the ticket. Not sure if it would be at one course or a traveling league.
We need to get another match play event going also. I love the 64 man bracket format. Too bad you wern't around back then, it was fun. Everyone got a shirt with the logo on the front but they didn't get them until after the first round. 32 of them had "One and Done" on the back. You may still see one or two of those around some where.:)

sounds like a ton of fun. when I end up passing my CPA exam and I get settled down in a routine, i would be really interested in helping out with some disc golf stuff or help run some of these different types of events you are talking about. im always up for some variation, standard minis and tournaments are always fun, but things like doubles, team events, handicaps help make playing events more fun

Thanks to Wise Shuttle service for sacrificing his interior to get us to our car. In mine and Gary's case I don't think it would have mattered. We where soaked head to toe. Aug 11 2009, 08:47 AM
The Pro masters bailed on hole 9, the pros on hole 8 and other groups on 12, 15 and 16. Only two groups got wet. The rest of them waited at the barn and I shuttled them back to the parking lot. FurDog was dry.
Since no one finished, I'll either offer you a credit at my next mini or I am more than happy to refund your money. Just let me know what you would like.
Since it only rains in Owasso when its dark, I guess the storm was confused last night because it got real dark out, OR FurDog brought it with him. Either excuse works for me. The one up side is that an hour before the storm, the temp dropped from 95 to 76. If the rain would have held off 45 minutes, half the filed would have finished. Oh well.
Thanks to those that did come out. See you next week.

Aug 18 2009, 09:57 AM
It was Ricky Vaquez and Ian Hill. They rode together, got there a little late and I guess a little lit. I'm out on the course at hole 5 when I hear all this yelling and that they need an official RIGHT NOW! So about the time I drive that way to hole 8, WWF breaks out right on the tee pad. I get there and start trying to pull them apart, then Jim Tayor comes over and he gets in between them. He is one good referee! We get them apart for a minute and then they go at it again. This time I said screw it and told them to walk or I'm calling the cops out.
They acted like they didn't believe me, until I started dialing, and they started pleading not to do it. I told them to split up and walk or go to jail, doesn't matter to me because I'm not going to screw with them anymore, tired of it.
When it was over, one had a bloody mouth and the other had a busted nose, there was a body slam, spitting in the face, eye gouging going on, punching, choking and one of them hit the other in the face from about 5 ft with a disc, right in the nose.
They were DRUNK, plain and simple and are not welcome back.
Sorry for the NORMAN comment but thats where they came from and I wish you'd take them back. I know there are some great guys over there but you have to admit, you have some real bright ones also.

From what I understand, Ian borrowed a disc from squeeze, then his shot landed in one of those nasty thorn trees. He didn't want to get it out. squeeze made him climb the tree to get it, After that they started in on each other about who is the bigger biatch and I think Ian may have taken one of squeezes disc and chunked to who knows where. FIGHT ON!
I told Wilkes it was two OKC guys and he quickly corrected me to inform me they are from Norman.

Thanks for the details Dave. From what I can understand, I guess when I called you last night you were in the middle of breaking it up because I could hear a lot of scuffling and loud conversation in the background. You are "The Man"!!!! I can't think of anyone who could have handled that situation better.
To me it's really sad to see two guys show up together and then end up getting in a fight against each other.
You and I have gone at it for years and never once has it come down to duking it out. If those guys would have just followed our example then it would have never come down to this. I'm wondering if anyone in the housing addition got it on tape and would be willing to post it on U-tube. :)

So, I walked into the Tulsa County District Courthouse this morning (for work), and ran into a friend of mine (Scott) who just happens to also be an Assistant District Attorney. He lives in the neighborhood behind Centennial, and I have seen him running on the paths out there several times. He first greets me with "Good morning, Melissa", and then as if he's been dying to see me all week, he proceeds to say "so, I was running out at that new disc golf park on Monday evening and..." I immediately knew right where he was going with that statement! Needless to say, he witnessed it all and was completely shocked. I assured him that is NOT typical disc golf etiquette and behavior. He commented on the black Avalanche that came racing across the paths in no time to put a stop to the madness, calling Wise and others "disc golf officials"!
Unfortunately, one comment he made that stands out in my head is "yeah, we never had problems at that park until the disc golf park was put in". Uggggh! I told him that's definitely NOT the reputation we want out there and again I assured him that "the disc golf official in the black Avalanche" will most definitely be regulating out there, and he should have nothing to worry about.

Sorry they were offended. I should have just referred to them as out of towners. Not the best choice of description but I was PO'd. I have worked hard to get this course in and we are not that welcomed by the neighborhood. The bike riders think its their park, the runners and walkers think its their park and now they are both feeling threatened by the disc golfers. <O:p</O:p
Then on a nice evening out, with mothers and children, runners and walkers a drunken brawl breaks out. And as you can see from Melissa's post, a person of public influence and a resident of the neighborhood witnessed it. That was about the LAST thing I needed out there and I knew it when it happened.<O:p</O:p
<O:p</O:p
Again sorry to lump all of you together, there are some GREAT guys in Norman and OKC and I apologize but just like Tulsa we have some winners that neither of us want to claim. Its just that the Tulsa guys didn't come to your new park and jeopardize everything you have done to this point.<O:p</O:p
<O:p</O:p
Again I apologize for the Norman comments but thats all I'm sorry for and I may still see some repercussion from this little episode. The Norman guys should be as upset with those two as I am. The first thing they tell you is where they are from.
As for me being on the Norman shiet list, don't feel special, yours is not the first.

Well depending on who you talk to....
General Patton calls it "Tick Run".
Randy Wilson calls it "Chigger Run".
Those guys just can't manage to stay of the woods. There are only 3 short holes that run through the woods but I garrantee if there was only one there would still be people griping about chiggers and tics.
Believe it or not, I've never actually played all 18 on the Moose Run but I've played a full 18 on Cenntennial once and I like both courses so Hinds comparison really doesn't matter to me. :)
The only thing about Centennial is walking through the tall grass in the creek bed looking for a lost disc. Fear of snakes was probably the reason one of those guys didn't want to go looking for the other guys disc the other night.
I would be upset too if you borrowed one of my discs and threw it into the crap and didn't want to go get it.

Actually the Jack-Ace that the public sees racing across the paths in his black Avalanche probably draws more negative public attention than the fighting or other illegal activities. Try circulating flyers to the homes explaining DG, the course, the rules, and the benches and other amenities it is bringing to the park.
Perhaps include a free mini or DX disc to the houses on the north side within view of the park and encourage them to get out and play.
Talk about the large amount of money DG raises for food for the homeless and the United Way every year.
Mention the extra security disc golf brings to the walkers, joggers, and bicyclist by bringing more people to the park.
Try getting Owasso schools involved.
Stay at the shelter and keep your vehicle off of the paths and grass during the mini unless its lightening and you’re trucking people out. You driving around just to watch only draws attention to it’s self and since you never have any fresh water with you then you really have no need to be out there. Any walker or jogger will tell you that.
Otherwise, get a bike to move baskets because it’s more eco-friendly.
Also, cut out the blanket statements to your faithful about alcohol just because two out of towners screwed it up for you one week. No telling what happens when it’s just casuals out there and understand that the people that show up at your mini’s are there to show their support and are probably your best DG citizens and reps compared to what people see the rest of the time.
As we know from Billy and Brad, you don’t have to be drunk to get into a fight or wrestling match.

Doug told me yesterday that he lost it on one of the rounds at the HOTB, only to win it back in the final 9...so, he does put the #3 tag on the line at times...I guess it just depends on who he is playing with...
Well he must be playing with himself then because I've never seen him put it up for grabs in Tulsa. I can't imagine he would be afraid of losing it to me.

I didn't mention flex starts because I was there last week at 5 and no one went out until almost 6.
The Owasso course has its drawbacks, like location of parking, no alcohol, no tobacco and now no dog crap. The upside is, it is a nice course and provides a place for many golfers to play without having to drive to Tulsa, even with it's limitations.
Plain and simple........It is what it is!

Okay folks, the course is set up for all long pins tonight, come stretch out your arm a little. Hole 8 is in the short position and is the CTP tonight. One free mulligan tonight and I'll let you buy another one for a $1. There is a light breeze with some gusts, should be for a great night. Ace pot starts around $25 plus.
If you don't make it tonight be sure to make the last one next week before the Centennial Cup on Sept 13th. I will do something special next week and we will have some fun with it. All short pins.

Its called golf buddy, every hole shouldn't be throw and putt. Some holes should require a drive, then a well placed upshot, then a putt. If you can reach the short position, then the long should be an easy par.

Well that is a bunch of Ka-Ka!!!
Next time you move that basket to the short position I'm going to get a bag of Quick-Crete and cement the collar at that long position shut. You can dig a new hole for all I care.
How are you ever going to get the people that live in those houses to support the course if you keep forcing them to throw into snake hell?
It's not golf when you have to worry about your personal safety.
In the winter time that position is fine but in the summertime it's just a hazard.
Looks like you were ate up with the "Dumb Ace" when you thought that idea up.
What did you do?....
Walk around in the dark with a bag on your head and say "Duh!!!...This feels like a good spot. ".

Well then maybe you two should go ahead and come out of the closet and admit that Cenntenial is actually designed specifically as the "Donkey-Dave" course because obviously you didn't design it for the general Owasso public to be a part of it.
I didn't have a problem with any other hole out there last night and I actually got a four on # 13 but they don't mow the stretch in front of the hole because of the ankle breaker snake ditch you've got running through there. I'm sure after a heavy rain that gets even worse. That placement should be for tournaments only.
I don't expect it to be a Chandler hole, but it would be nice if the nim-wad who thought up that hole thought about anyone else besides himself. :(

Aug 25 2009, 12:41 PM
I was thinking about the golfers that can play the hole. Who said everything needs to be family friendly all the time? Courses need some difficulty and risk reward shots, thats what I provided.
What you don't see out there is me taking the time to move baskets to serve ALL that play out there, not just dad and the kids. You got to play and then leave, after you left, I had to go change all the baskets. The course is in all shorts now except for a few on the back and they will be changed this afternoon. Once that is done, you should be happy, along with all of the family golfers that you support.
The course will stay in the short layout for at least the next two-three weeks or until the tournament on the 13th.

Who are you talking to? I can't reach that hole and I don't try to. I play it to the short then across for a par. It was designed for the bigger arms to risk a shot. If they don't hit it, then they have a real chance of a 4 or 5 on that hole.

I just finished meeting with the parks department at the course this monring. They will be installing 4 benches and 3 trash cans this fall, once the mowing cycle has stopped. Concrete is being budgeted for next year.
They will also be doing a full mow job with weed eating around the pins and tee areas before our event.
Now get this.........................They also informed me that the local police found a disc golfer playing from his car. They said he would throw a shot, get in his car and drive to the next shot. I have no idea who this was, they said it was a small maroon car.

Try to be there and ready to play no later than 6:00 -6:15. The later you are the more likely you will have to finish in the dark.
Come on out and get some practice in before the Centennial Cup on Sept 13th.

See what I mean!!!!
The word is out in the Owasso religous community that the sinners are coming to town!!!!
The only way you can avoid them is to dress like one of them. That means black slacks, white short sleeve shirt, and a black tie with a bible in your hand. Traveling in groups of two is the best defense and carry a can of green pea soup in case they try an exorsizm.
Sing songs like "Michael Row the Boat Ashore" and "Shall We Gather at the River" also.
Don't be surprised if you land in the water and someone comes up and tries hold your head under water as a baptism.

It was brought to my attention that some locals may be going in the ponds to retreive discs. I would like to ask that you call me when you do this. I am willing to buy $$ back discs that belong to supporting players. If the discs have no names then they are yours but I would like to get discs back to the people with their names on them. I will pay a fair price or those players may pay for them or give you a new disc. Then again they may just say keep them. But I woud like the option to return them if possible.
You can call me any time and leave a message at 918-232-8562 or email me.
I will make it worth your while to return discs.

Dude??.... How many "locals" do you really think are going to read that??
Even then if they took the time to wade out in the snake infested waters do you really think they are going to want to give up their bounty for a few bucks?

Yes, they will. This was just copied over here from DGRUS, they do read that forum.
Most all of the locals call me when they find one of mine, I'm just aksing that they call me when they find any with names, especially if they are going in the ponds to get them. I have given away more plastic to the locals than they have bought, so they tend to work with me on these things. Some will, some may not but there is no harm in asking.

Cool, I appreciate Dave's efforts in getting back our plastic, I have an August Worlds Ch. Wraith in 18's pond, it is clearly marked with my info and the word $REWARD$, will make it worth while for anyone getting this back to me
This event was a blast, thanks to all involved with it :D
TwoPutt has done an outstanding job with this course, I love the way it can go from short beginner friendly to long and challenging

Don't compare CS to this deal.
CS has me for one thing which is just like having Elvis in the house and even with a 100% forcast of monsoon rain you'd still see 90-100 people there just for the grooving atmosphere. :)
I heard from about 30 people so far that said they tried to get to Craptenial to play but that the church people blocked the roads and diverted them all into Sunday school.

No I found the pair last night and talked to them. I went back to the parking lot with them and went through everything. I offered the guy 4 new discs that he wanted for turning these in. He still had several left but with no names on them.
I explained it this way. You can go fishing and keep all of the fish you want, that aren't tagged but you can still get a reward for the tagged fish. I told him as he gets better, these are the people he will be playing with and as he gets better he will have that one true "go to" disc and when he throws it in somewhere, he will then understand what it means to get a disc back.

yes, crowl does has had many bad shots out there. I am so glad to get those back though!! The glow one is a Firebird that was just getting beat in to the perfect stability. And then, splash.
Now i only have one more disc out there to get back. Orange 11x Eagle. If anybody has any new ones of these i would be interested.
Thanks again wise.

So Wise...
Have you decided on a layout yet for the OO? Is it for sure all LONGS? If so, are we going to have it set up in the longs to practice?
THANKS!
twoputtok
Sep 22 2009, 12:49 PM
That is not my decision. That would be up to the TD but I do recomend that layout.
Since they will only go through one round out there, we might as well make it as tough as it should be.
Any thoughts on Hole 8 being in the long or in the shorts with two sets of mandos?
The first set would be the two trees in the middle and the second mando would be the two trees right in front of the basket. Like a big funnel.

Sep 22 2009, 12:55 PM
This is a Supter Tour A Tier so I plan on chosing the tougher layout. Dave and I can decide on specific holes, mando's etc.
Pan on it being in the longs with more details to come..

That would be pretty cool. I would recommend that!
Also, I wonder is Mr. Treat would consider the use of some OB rope (kind of USDGC style) on the wide open holes like hole 2 and 11. Not totally necessary, as there is plenty of trouble and challenge out there, but just a thought.

FYI:
Dics are no longer for sale at the Shell station in Owasso. The owner of the store was a victim of a corporate take over and they bought his lease. I had to move everything out this morning as thats when he found out about it. The new owners have already talked to me about putting them in another one of their stores here in town. Hopefully in about a week we will have them for sale once again.
Thanks
