I, too, would like to see this fixed. Especially since the moderator has posted numerous times that it works. Either the mod was posting without checking to see if what he was posting was true, or else there is some kind of a config problem where ti works for some people and not for others.

The mods should refrain from acting like babies while doing the volunteer work they volunteered to do. I know that's wishful thinking around here, but it needed to be said...again.

Q: Now that avatars are enabled, why do some avatars appear enormously big? In the user control panel, it says that avatars must be a maximum size of 80 X 80 pixels or 19.5 KB, whichever is smaller. Some avatars are clearly over that.

A: The restrictions are in place now, however if avatars from the old message board were ported in, they can get around the restriction limits until the user edits their avatar.

We will allow a grace period for users to comply with the new restrictions. However, at some later point TBD, we will begin removing old avatars that do not meet the current standards.

This statement is simply not true. I just uploaded my avatar a little while ago, and the requirements were 150x150 max pixels and some max kb. There was no 80x80 requirement in the upload via the control panel. My huge current avatar is not a legacy avatar from the old board.

Since my avatar is not an "old avatar" I am going to ASSume that the mods stay true to their quoted words above and not remove my current avatar that was uploaded with the new software with no shenanigans involved.

Here's a nice feature of the new PDGA DISCussion Board software, if you haven't already found it:

In the "Quick Links" menu bar above, the "Today's Posts (http://www.pdga.com/discussion/search.php?do=getdaily)" will show all the threads which were active in the last 24 hours. It's a nice way of seeing where the recent activity on the message board is.

Once you've gotten to the point where you've read all the threads you are interested in, you can click on the "Mark Forums Read (http://www.pdga.com/discussion/forumdisplay.php?do=markread)" link. Then, the next time you return to the message board, click on the New Posts (http://www.pdga.com/discussion/search.php?do=getnew) link in the menu bar. Then all the threads which have received activity since the last time you visited the message board will be displayed.

Has anyone else had your browser hijacked after clicking a forum link? I clicked in the players area and it diverted to a tracking survey which is a tool for the advertiser to see if their ads are reaching the right people. It is part of the advertising partner contract that the pDGA entered into recently; if you haven't had your browser hijacked yet, you will. I called the company that tracks the surveys and they confirmed there are full page "link invites" which will pop-up and delay the page your trying to go to for 10 seconds. I run Mozilla with an ad blocker add-on, so it's not a problem with my browser...I should have filled out the survey, there's a chance to win $1,000!!!

On the old site it would have me log back in every couple of weeks, but I have never been "logged off" while using the site (old or new) On the old mess board, if I took too long to type a post, it would tell me something had expired and couldn't proceed. However, I could just hit the back button, copy and paste and continue. I have not had anything like that happen with the new site. I can now have posts "in process" for hours and don't experience the old problem or the new "log out" problem others are experiencing.

Could it be a browser problem? I use Firefox with ABP.

I am experiencing an intermittent problem. I like to use the New Posts tab. It will show all posts since the last time I marked everything read. The problem I have is when I am done with the first page and I click on page 2 or >>, it tells me no results match my search. Yet, I can go back to page one and see there are two or more pages of posts yet to read. Again, this does not happen all the time, but seems to be occurring more often.

Anyone else experience this?

It still happens to me almost daily. I've started typing posts in a text editor and pasting them into the box whole. At least then if it gets wiped out I still have a copy to paste in again.
Sounds like you have a restrictive cookie setting in your browser. Worth an extended look.

a simple way to figure if this may be the case is to use a default install of another browser such as Google Chrome.

...I have touchy BACK button on my mouse and have wiped out some posts being prepared. Clicking FORWARD doesn't seem to recover it...
depends on your cache settings ;)

Why would there be a cutoff date? That doesn't make sense. Wouldn't be the first time it couldn't understand what the PDGA was doing though. Sometimes i still don't even after they explain it. Seems like an easy enough task for any moderator to do. I'm sure it takes all of 2 minutes to do.

Nope, moderators don't have that ability. Only admins do.

So what happened to the ability to start polls?

Also how does someone post a photo?

Finally, I figured out where to edit to get the time stamp right, have smileys, fonts, etc available....

To hawkgammon, go into the USER CP on the toolbar, top left of the page. GO to "edit options" and scroll down. and down, and down. there, finally, will show the text editing option. You need to choose at least the 2nd option.

now, I wonder if the time will be right??

EDIT: NOPE! The options page says "all times are GMT -5" at the bottom, when in the selection box it's clearly -6. And, the time stamp on this message seems to be GMT-1.

what browser are you using?
how strict are your cookie settings?
how is your cache configured? (aka 'Browsing History' in IE settings)

I'm inclined to believe its a setting on your end, not having this problem here in IE, Chrome, FF, or Safari. Please let us know the answers to the above questions, thanks.

Remove the banner of the US Amateur Disc Golf Championship that's next to the PDGA logo on home page. It's over a month old!

I had a couple of recommendations for the "stats/player profile page" on the pdga website.

I think it would be cool to list what "tier" a tournament is on players' stat page. Maybe next to the "points column" ?

I also think the "city, state" of the tournament could be listed. I realize it's often in the name of the tourney itself, but not usually. It would give a good idea of where players play when looking at a players' stat page.

A "photo" option may be cool as well, for those who want their mugs to be seen.

Just my $.02. I'm a stats junkie, it give us something to keep up with. Where would baseball be without all of those useless stats?

Thanks

yeah, restricting posting here to PDGA dues-paying members has made this site a huge success and has brought boatloads of new members into the fold.

I have a couple issues with the new website. Both of them have to do with mobile web browsing. The new website does not work very well with mobile web browsers. I like to use a mobile web browser to access PDGA for two reasons. One, it would be great to be able to access the new and improved course directory from the field and find courses. My phone has a gps and it would be tremendous to find a course and get there via Google maps or some other software. It is very difficult to use most aspects of the website, including the directory, on a mobile browser. Second, I have the good fortune to play in a lot of Bruce Brakel's tournaments. His brother Jon has results posted so fast that the first round is often on-line before the second round starts. I like to go to the schedule to look up the results and unofficial ratings. The drop down menus on the schedule do not work very well with mobile browsers.

I have a Windows Mobile 6.1 standard device. I have Expolorer. However, I also have Skyfire and Opera Mini. These allow me a painful, slow and often unproductive access. That is better than what I can get with Explorer.

In a perfect world there would be a mobile website that had features that really work. Thanks.

I'm all for making money...I think every one should...capitalism works. And I want to see the PDGA bring in income wherever they can.

I just hope these banner adds are worth it...my annoyance meter starts to trickle up some times.

It used to be that any member's player rating and stats were just two mouse clicks away from their post. Click, click, back, back. Now it's a two-handed mouse and keyboard extravaganza.

there was actually a time when a member's PDGA rating showed up on the left side of all their posts just like their username and avatar. Then the powers that be cried FOUL and that short-lived innovation was hidden by the powers that be behind several curtains so that it could only be uncovered by a multitude of mouse clicks and an expenditure of an interested party's valuable time.

I can't say for certain that it won't be removed (unsure of previous reasoning), but I've added a link in posts just below the avatar and just above 'Join Date:' which now opens a new window/tab for Player Stats.

Now we just need to get Ciphent to correct the time offset error.

I fully applaud the change. It goes beyond being able to look at a person's stats or player rating - sometimes I just want to know who the person is and where they live. Previously, when someone's username was, for example, "discpro99" and they don't fill in a location in their profile, then you have no clue who it is and have to do multiple clicks and copying and pasting. Now with one click, I will know who said message board user is.

And also on the positive side, we can get Bruce Brakel to change his signature file. :D
