I know we made you guys and gals play too many holes last year in the 100+degree August weather. In order to help correct that situation, we have moved the event to the month of June, we are going to play 1 round of 30 holes each day and there will not be a final 9 this year. I will also have the Senior Citizens building reserved for the weekend, so we can all have an air-conditioned building to retreat to. Tournament headquarters will be set up in this building.
The course layout for this years tournament will be the same as last year with 3 more holes added in the back part of the course. We will have put more sleeves into the ground by then, so more holes will have alternate pin positions. All pin positions will be played.
I believe that this event was a huge success last year and will be even better this year.

30-hole rounds will not give players a chance to get high rated rounds. If there's a way to have scores recorded and reported as two 15-hole rounds each day, it will give the players 4 rated rounds instead of 2.

All divisions will be paid out shortly after completion of the last round. Having tee times will allow us to pay out each divison as they finish. This will also allow for more people to leave when they are finished.
Or it will give people a chance to watch how the pros play the course.

In fact, it's even more important if you plan to do tee times. This way we can handle problems rating stagger start rounds when/if the weather/wind changes throughout the day. Just set up your scorecards with a 15-hole Out total and a 15-hole In total and report the scores that way. Everyone playing will have played the same 15 holes in order. There's no risk of players starting their scorecard on the wrong hole which they might do in a shotgun start and mess things up.

If this will make it better for the players and round raters, I don't see any problem from an administration standpoint. It will be very easy to record and report scores in this manner.

The first 15 holes of this course will be the most difficult holes on the course. The last 15 are the shortest and the easiest. Could be some great rated rounds there.

If that is true then rating the tournament play could be tricky. You would have to call it TWO 15 hole rounds in order for it to be rated, no? Keep working on the topless caddies. I'm sure everyone would love to see Lammy with no shirt! :D

yes, i believe Chuck has already chimed in on that exact question on this thread, i think he even said rating it like two 15 hole rounds would make the ratings slightly higher.

Apr 22 2008, 05:24 PM
Ratings won't be higher with 15-hole rounds but there's a better chance to shoot a really high rated round. However, rounds with fewer than 18 holes will not count in the record books for 'best ever' highest rated rounds to keep it fair for comparisons.

Ah, i see the upstream posts about the 15 vs. 30 hole rounds now. Interesting points.
I could care less about the ratings. I just don't want it to be an iron-man tournament like it was last year. Two day tournies should be 72 holes or less.....especially in TX where the temps could reach 105+ degrees.....like last year.

Ya Kinter almost died last year!
The worst part about it was they made us wait like two and a half hours in the heat before they started the final 9, which was some of the longest holes ever played in a final 9 ever!

Hope Brice does not go crazy this year!

Oh i remember the wait. I limped out there to film the final nine last year for DGTV. It was supposed to start at 2pm so i got there at 1:30. I finally left around 3:30 b/c it hadn't started yet.
Jason and Clayton kept my camera and got some great footage but they were a little tipsy and all in all the video and audio was not DGTV worthy.
I know the work it takes to run a successful event such as this and i don't want to take that hard work away from anyone. I thank the people that put in the work so that the rest of the DG community can *have fun*.....b/c that's what it's all about for me......*fun*!

Last year happened to be the only week out of the entire year that the temperature was over 100 degrees. Last year it was in the middle of August, this year it will be at the end of June. June 28-29, 2008
The PIASO 2008 will be a B-Tier PDGA event as well as a Southern National Qualifier.
This year you will be playing 1 round of 30 holes each day. Each round of 30 holes will be split up into 2 15 hole rated rounds. On Saturday, everybody in the tournament will play the white tees to the short pin postions. On sunday, some will play the Blue tees and the rest will play the Red tees to the long pin positions. You will play 19 holes of the original course and 11 temporary holes.
We will have tee times this year as well. The ams will start off first and the pros will finish. On Sunday, when each divison has completed their rounds and we have tabulated their scores, each division will then be paid out. This is if the am players want to watch the pros play, then they most certainly can. If they want to go home early, then they can do that too.
Tournament headquarters on Saturday will be at the pavilion and on Sunday will be inside a big air conditioned building. There will be plenty of water and gatorade spread throughout the course in designated areas.
Many of the holes will have concrete tee pads this year. All of the holes with the bad tee areas will have been fixed. The course will be completely mowed and trimmed for the tournament.
Last year we capped the event at 130 players, this year there will be no cap on players.
Nolan Grider took home over $1150.00 in the Open divisionin 2007. We had 30 Open Pro players and hope to have more this year.
This is going to be a great event!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just a note: Payouts will occur within 30 minutes after the last card of each division has been turned in. What this means is, when all the Rec players have finished and cards turned in they can get their payout and either leave or stick around and watch the Pros. and so on for each division. We do not think it is necessary for the first divisions out to hang around an extra 5 - 6 hours after they are through unless they want to. With tee times, it makes things run much smoother and much more laid back. Those that want to see some great golf by the Pros can and those that have long trips home can go.
And yes......Brice IS the king of added cash.......last year he raised close to $3000.00 and 1st place Open took home $1,000.00 in cash...........This year I'll bet the payout is even sweeter...... ;) ;):cool:

Ya but I think it is a time issue. If grandmasters play the long set up it could cause a serious back up. Brice has made some course changes like on hole #3 that I don't think most of the old guys want any part of.

Brice has also been busting his ***** to secure sponsors for the event. So far, he has been told by sponsors that he should expect over $2,000. I know his goal is over $3,000 for added cash.
Now, all you who have bad things to say about last year, like how hot it was and how many holes we played, etc.......Last year is over and gone, FORGET ABOUT IT AND LET IT GO!!!!!!!!!! This year you will play 30 holes each day and you will have a tee time. When you are through, go do what ever you so desire and show back up on Sunday at you tee time. Water will be plentiful and so will the spotters.
Pre-registration this year is a MUST!! The winner of the Open Division, just like last year will likely get a payday of at least $1,000. That is good money no matter where you are. So, sign up early, do not get shut out, we can handle 180 players, but we can't have Saturday morning registration and also have tee times, it does not work. :(

We can have the players take a break if that is what's preferred.
With all players playing the white tees to the short pin positions on Saturday, I don't think most people will need to take a break.
Sunday on the other hand may be a different story. Most of the Adv. and Pro divisions will be playing the red(long) tees to the long pin positions.

Crowley will be around 5 hours a round, but if we were to play two 20 hole rounds we would be playing 6-7 hours a day so really we will be playing less golf.

Not necessarily near your car or refreshment area. I remember playing 27 holes per day at the Gran Canyon in Florida where there was a mandatory half hour break built into the flow after you played hole 18 or 27. It was something like if you started on holes 8-21, your break was after 27. If you started on holes 22-27 or 1-7 your break was after 18. Both 18 and 27 were right by HQ.

The issue regarding warming up again after a break was mentioned as a potential problem for some. Players could do what they want during the break(s) in terms of practice throws if this became a guideline. The whole idea behind more holes and longer rounds is to handle larger fields and in theory reduce the total time at the course during the day compared with two 18-hole rounds. Putting required breaks in there would still be less time than two 18s plus lunch break and make it more manageable for players.

I talked with Brice about this and he plans on sending 3 player cards out at 10 minute increments. When a 4 player card is needed to round out the division, extra time will be added between tee times. Also, there will be a lapse of time between divisions also. Flow will be smooth.
For all those who don't want to play 30 holes, STAY HOME and STFU, this tournament and thread does not concern you.
For the rest of you, this will be one great tournament, Brice has already gotten enough sponsors to guarantee $1,000.00 to the Open division winner if we have 30 open players. The Competition Committee was discussing whether there should be a requirement that whatever the minimum specified to be added for a tier, such as $500 for a B-tier, be apportioned equally per player to all pro divisions. Then any added cash beyond that amount was totally up to the discretion of the TD to add where or how they wanted. For example, if you have 50 total pros and $1500 added, all pro divisions would get $10 added per player to cover the first $500. Then, the remaining $1000 could all be added to Open, divided by entry fee purse per division or for skins or CTPs or however the TD wanted to handle it. What do you think?

I think that is a fine way to distribute added money. I have, in the past, used a similar calculation to reward the larger division....like if there were 15 Pro Masters, 10 Open and 5 GM, divide the added cash proportionately to the numbers like so...50% to MPM, 33% to MPO and 17% to MPG. But the proposal you set out above I think is also a very fair way to add cash and I would be in favor of such a requirement.

The main reason the question came up is that the requirements for tiers changed from a minimum percentage to a minimum dollar amount for 2008. This is easier for the TDs to get a handle on. However, some TDs have used this change to put all added money in Open when in the past the older divisions got at least a minimum percentage added. I think most feel that Open men and women should get higher shares than the protected divisions but perhaps only when the minimum added cash requirements have been met.

I do agree with you here Chuck, the required amount of added cash should be proportionately added to each Pro division based on the number of participants, then leaving the rest to the discretion of the TD. So if you are looking for support of that issue, you've got mine. ;)

Just a note to all you Open players out there, Registration will not be open past Thursday June 26, so sign up early. There will be absolutely NO Registration Friday June 27 or Sat. morning regardless of how many players are registered. Just know that the money is there so come and get you some!!!
We got the CFR Star Destroyers in and the are sweet. We have very limited numbers left, like only about 15 - 20, so get'em before they are gone.

Once we have enough money to guarantee $1000.00 to the winner, then we will make sure everyone else that cashes will get a very good payout. No worries Chris.....
You might want to try to set your goal to winning this event and walking away with the big money.

I agree this is a great tourney thats why I signed up as soon as I new I could attend! I think if the TD does not think it will fill then it probably wont but lets take a note from Josh Dannawana and his 1 day C tier that filled I think it doubled in numbers in a weeks time maybe less! Just saying it could happen plenty of DG in the area to make it fill and the longer they think they can wait they will so why not make them sweat bullets and think it might fill which might cause them to sign up early :D:DIf the TD says it wont fill makes a whole lot of procrastinators feel safe procrastinating. I just wish people where not so fickle about signing up for tourneys unless they think they will miss it! Thats another reason I think some times that if the cut off was set maybe a week or so away from the tourney then the weather watchers would not be able to drag out sign ups so long:D

While there is plenty of room for golfers, your time to register is ticking away. Registration WILL CLOSE when 180 players is reached -OR- Thursday, June 26 @ 11:59pm whichever comes first.
What that means is, full or not, there will be NO registration on Friday or Saturday. If that is a problem, call or pm either Brice or me prior to that time. If you wait until Friday to try to contact one of us, well that will be too late.

Hey Brice, just wondering if you know which divisions will be teeing off first on Saturday? Just wondering if I can leave Saturday morning and save money by just getting a hotel for one night. Looking forward to playing Crowley once again.
Tee times will aslo be posted by 1pm Friday giving enough time to make plans or lack there of:D

Did anybody notice that there is only 1 advanced player that is actually rated advanced.
Also, are we going off current ratings? By current I mean the ratings coming out in 5 days.

Britt,
Those ratings are what the PDGA is showing right now. Whether or not they send us the updated list, we will only know when we get it.
Does it really matter??? All those players signed up to play Adv. so it just looks like they are "Stepping Up"

You will get a new list with updated ratings either next Wed or Thur. However, there's a 2-week grace period that allows TDs/players to go off the older ratings to keep from disrupting the division assignments.

Thanks Chuck,
Hey Britt, is there someone you don't want to play? I didn't see anything wrong when I looked, did I just miss something?

Joe, I can tell you that the pros will tee off last.
Except for the Pro Grand Masters which will tee off first.
Yes!! That means that we can take our wheelchairs out there since we will have the entire park to ourselves. :D

It might have something to do with the fact that the pdga raised the Int rating from 913 to 935, which means that a lot of advanced players could now play Int but they are not sand baggers so they stayed in Adv.
