oh yeah, and I think that we're gonna be finding out that this event has filled all 216 slots.
It really is a cryin' shame that we can't all get carts to use out there for this tourney. They sure made practice rounds go quickly and smoothly today. The QVCC only allotted a certain number of carts for disc golfer use today.

Tony,
Nicole will not be able to play this weekend after all. This evening, we went out to a field to practice her throws, and she was feeling too much pain in her hip. She did some practice throws yesterday and thought she could play, but the pain is significantly worst today. I wanted to post this 2 hours ago, but I had a hard time convincing Nicole that she should not play. We were both really looking forward to this tournament. However she can't throw more than 125 feet without feeling pain. And the more she threw, the worst her hip hurt.
We still plan on being there as spectators. Good luck to everyone.
Thanks............Rick and Nicole

Wow! Where to start?
The tournament filled to 216 (max capacity) by the time of the player meeting! Great job folks! :D
I like the venue change - big improvement over Tom Bass! Lot of **** walking though! Too much! I've got two blood-blisters on the bottoms of both feet! Sheesh!!! :(
The informal surveying I did of players seemed to indicate that most have really liked what has been set up at Quail Valley. Great disc selection from 6-7 different manufacturers. Good tasty hot lunch too!
The weather was so perfect today that I can hardly believe it really IS Texas States! :D
*-*-* Anecdote: So our card of grandmasters teed off on hole #18 of the King Quail course this afternoon and all 4 of us thew OB on our drives! It turned out to be the only disc I lost the whole round though! (I had good company!)
Can't wait to see scores go up.

SeeWhere...you hush up dude!!! Of all of the Texas States you've ever played in, you should be at this one! Man! I sure am sorry you didn't come. Next time hire yourself a caddy!
It's a great facility to have a big tourney at. One of the coolest things I've seen is how many of the neighbors had chairs setup out on their patios watching as the rounds played by. They were very friendly and very curious about the sport. Wouldn't surprise me to see a few more players as a result of this event in their backyards!

Thank you to everyone that made it to Texas States '08. I heard mostly positive things about tournament and the neighborhood really seemed to accept us doing this (especially the folks having pool parties while the final nine came through.) Neal doesn't read the boards often, but a great big thank you to him of course... I started to make a list of the others, but it was bound to leave someone out and that just wouldn't be right. Congrats to Eric M. on the big win and to Jim D., Dixon J. on the great play. Final nine was awesome to watch. McCabe birdies the 500 foot #14, Orum birdies #16 with a really tricky hyzer line that really wowed the people in the backyards that he buzzed. Tracy and I had an incredible time and really enjoyed the company of Miles S., Liz L. and Eric M. at the house (especially since our son moved back to Miss. this weekend the house would have seemed really empty otherwise.) Congrats of course to Tracy and Tiffany on their wins. Oh yeah, and Jessica for her first birdie ever with a 10m putt. I don't think I made a birdie until I put it about 3 ft away from the basket. So much more thanking to be done and I will as time goes on. The guys that came from Dallas, the guys from Lubbock, the guys from San Antonio and Austin, the Corpus folks, thanks to you all. I had one of the best times of my life (maybe that's saying something about the quality of my life, but I don't think so.) See everyone at TX States '09. Oh yeah Larry K. and his $1000 raised needs to be mentioned anytime this tournament is.
I'm sad to hear about the news from ATL and will keep everyone there in our prayers. Maybe next year we can make sure to have all the biggest events on different weekends (a true tour) and we'll be in Atlanta for the Drew Eberhard Memorial tournament. Peace everyone and thanks for the memories, hope that I helped you have mostly good ones and on the occasion that a memory about me or my actions may have been not so great I offer my sincere apologies.

I have to admit, I had mixed feelings when I first heard that TX States wouldnt be at Tom Bass this year. Going forward, it will be just the opposite It will be a let down if were not at Quail Valley. I have been to many tournaments outside of the State of Texas that were NTs or higher. The atmosphere at Quail Valley this weekend was up with the best of them. Thanks again Neal and staff for all of your hard work securing this venue and putting on a great weekend for the players.

neil, conrad, bender, sue and everyone else that worked so hard on this tournament:
it was excellent. i wish that everyone that bad mouthed the move away from tom bass or that griped about collared shirts or no pull carts was forced to witness what a wonderful job you guys did. the facilities were top notch. the courses were an amazing design. the tournament ran smoothly. although i this is only my 3rd Texas States, i will say definitively that it was the best one ever.
and it was great to have actual bathrooms, not to mention full fledged locker rooms complete with leather couches, full bar and big screen TVs. seems like i'm stuck in a port-a-potty at every other tournament.

So true. The venue was tremendous. Too bad the best 2 courses are the temp courses. And everyone there was super friendly. Hopefully it was a win-win for us and the club so they host future events. I think those courses would be a great place to host a Match Play Championship. There where a lot of time that everyone was getting the same score. Plus it would be fun to watch there. hmmmmmmmmmmmm US Match Play Championships .... :D

I'd love to see a tally of the number of lost discs. Amazing how easy it is to "control" your shots when practicing yet somehow they seem to just be drawn towards the water hazards.
I lost 5 during the tourney, got one back & lost it again. Lost 2 practicing before the tourney.
What awesome courses...I like the fact there are quite a few holes that require sound decision making on the tee. I was bitten more then once "going for it" rather then playing safe. (well, it looked easy!)
Did y'all notice the FAT payout?
Great job - thanks for running this and for the change of venue. (saving me from having to play the last hole on the "Dragon"...priceless :o)

I'll talk to Neal and Tony tonight to see if they have a list made for lost discs. I plan to go swimming again at some point if possible. I know that I pulled 14 or 15 discs out and Dixon Jowers pulled about the same amount out on Sat. So if you did get a disc or two back you can thank him. I got a little frustrated because 4 of my discs were in a pond that Dixon and I completely scoured. If someone has kept any discs, I hope they get better and realize how much a returned disc can mean someday.
To add to the tally of discs I lost 8 and I didn't even play this weekend, just a really bad (wet) practice round and doubles on Friday in the rain.

Did the smaller sizes for the sake of loading time, but if you click below the previewed picture on the left you can see it in a new window full size. Ok guys, don't get your hopes up too much but I went wading, swimming, mud diving for a couple of hours on the Links tonight and came out with 26 discs. I figure that gives you only about a 1 in 10 chance that they're one of yours, but it's a start. I heard from local homeowners that there were some people looking Monday or Tuesday, but Neal said this that I gave him was the first batch turned in since Sunday. If you find others discs please get them to Neal, unless of course you see that person in the next day or two. I know that I lost 8 discs on Friday and not a single one was returned. I also know that particular pond is pretty clean now. Talked with Neal, and Jennifer Beazely will be making a list of the discs over the next couple of days and then we will post that here, hfds, and on TexasStates.org. So just be a little patient, but know that if WE have found them they are in safe hands and will be returned eventually. Others will just be left to the disc gods I guess.
A couple that I remember are Donovon Whiddon (2 discs), Eric Jubin (2 discs), Joe Torres, Neal, RB+, Marcus Ericson, Conrad (a Dave Tayloe I don't think you thought you'd see again.)... those are the only ones I really remember, but that's only 9 of the 26 that I found so good luck to all at the others being yours.

A Word To Our Sister Tournament in Atlanta...
The Disc Golf players of Texas and the TxSDGC would like to express our deepest sympathy over the tragic accident that occurred during the past weekend in Atlanta. Our condolences to all who were personally involved.
Although we looked at the two events (A Tiers on the same weekend) as a bit of a sibling rivalry, we know that we are all involved in the same mission and are always supportive of any successes achieved at any time by any disc golf event or entity. -- Neal Dambra, 2008 TxSDGC TD

Sue,
I am sure that the comparison of tournaments was not taken as an attack on Atlanta at all. There are people who feel rightly so that TX should have some USDGC qualifying slots at least one tournament. We would all hate for TX to turn into another LA as far as the PDGA is concerned (ok, so most of us would hate that.)
As far as the tragedy in Atlanta, I first read about it Monday morning and must admit that it put everything else into perspective. Nothing is more important than the time we get to spend with our family and friends and the loss of a loved one or a peer is hard on the entire community. I did the only thing I knew to do and expressed sympathy from the entire TX disc golf community, because I knew as everyone found out about the accident that they would feel sympathy and more. We all know you have a huge heart and keep everyone in Rand's family and beyond in your thoughts and prayers.
On a lighter note: Anyone else up for going swimming out at the links and trying to beat my 26 disc record?

I think it was my attempt at "hyperbole" for the sake of making my point. I really should look up what that means before posting, but I'm sick today and don't feel like it:) I just hope the National/Souper Tour is a little better planned as far as for travelling pros for next year. The pdga should have a board member that has to travel by Greyhound to all of the NT/ST events and see if the schedule doesn't flow a little better next year. Again, I'm using the sick disclaimer if anyone wants to call me out on things I'm saying.

I could say I meant Los Angeles, but that wouldn't fly. Seriously though, on the positive side I think we all are really hoping to see a USDGC qualifier in the state of TX in 2009. I love the great state of LA, and as far as DG goes there are plenty of great things going on there not SN related. BTW, the last SN tourney I played at Pleasure Island and it was very well ran and the payouts were great, so no complaints about SN from me, I just don't think pdga would be too happy to see SN events outnumber PDGA events in TX. I probably opened mouth - inserted foot - but it also probably won't be the last time. BTW, congrats on some great play this weekend Emily.

I've got the first list of lost discs all together now and posted on the Texas States Website or you can go directly here (http://www.txsdgc.com/Lost%20at%20Quail%20Valley.htm) and view it. I now request that people first contact me via e-mail if possible and let me know upcoming events, etc. that they will be attending and we will try our best to get them to you. For this week, we can find a way to get discs to Corpus and to Nacadoches. Let us know where your disc needs to be for you. I think there are still a large number of discs out there in the thick mud. Recovery will occur throughout the summer and I will keep people posted on the TX States website and here.
Note: Please use the Reference # in the list when telling me about a disc so that it's easier for me to find.

OK Guys... my redneck self got back in those nasty waters again and we've added about 45 discs to the list. I am just adding new bunches to the bottom of the list so I can keep my ref. #'s the same. BTW, I don't think anyone has really searched #9 on the links all that well or #15 on Valley Classic. I'm pretty tired of the mud, so it's someone else's turn if you want more discs out of there.

Matt H., Sorry I haven't found any of the dot discs yet. And yeah Neal I think is up there as are a few of the rest of us. I've lost a total of about 16 out there and so far have gotten 1 back. I have searched #1, #2, and #3 of the links pretty thoroughly at this point. I will be taking a break till after this weekend, so hoping someone else (that knows how to return them) takes over for a few days. #15 of the VC is difficult searching and I'm not sure if anyone has hit the Fountain hole on VC (although not sure how much is in there.) I have a few discs that are not on the list that have absolutely no markings whatsoever. If someone sends me a personal e-mail at petre@petris.com and describes the disc type, color, and condition (relatively well) then it is yours, otherwise these discs will be given to beginners or sold to benefit TX States (after a couple of months waiting period.) I am listing anything that has any markings whatsoever though (please mark your discs.) As you can tell I am doing everything possible to be on the up and up about this, but I'm not going to list 5 unmarked destroyers and then just let anyone claim them... They will be in the pile until adequately described.

For those heading to Corpus this weekend, let me know if you have a disc you want me to bring down that way. I will attempt to go through the list of registered players and match up lost plastic.
Will pick up stuff from Neal on Friday, so PM me if you are on the list.

Why would you lay up on #3?
3-6 are easy birds.

I've altered the lost/found disc list with a column that includes destinations for the upcoming week. This helps me sort the disc, but will also help you know where yours might be going. All unclaimed discs will once again be back in my garage next week.

I'm not at work, so I can't post to the lost/found list the 6 more that I recovered tonight. They are Pat Stallman, Guillermo A., Jim Davidson, Jose Ossa, and Randy Roland from #2 on the links. I went in there to find my pink 1st run destroyer and it was the last disc I found after 2 hrs searching. Hole 1 and 2 are getting pretty cleaned out from states (I'm sure there are more, but getting harder to find.) Holes like 9 and 10 are still full of discs I believe, but I haven't had a chance to get out there yet, and the wildlife seems a little wilder in spots. BTW, someone going to McGregor this weekend, I need to send the discs with you.

Too funny...I don't think the disc manufacturers / retailers like your fishing skills!
This was truly a tournament for the players! The fact y'all are still doing all you can to reunite plastic & players is awesome...thank you so much for returning my flippy Sirius JLS.
Amazing it was retrieved...my discs go deep!
If you happen to find any Toronto Maple Leafs stamps I've got a couple of 'em swimming around with Wally.
