A reminder...

We have exactly 30 pros and 60 ams. Funny enough, when we estimated the payout for ordering discs, that was the EXACT numbers we used

Anyway...

We have 54 Custom Stamped DX San Mario Rocs for part of the players pack.

6 of you ams will miss out! Get there early and get one!!! The last 6 ams will still get a good DX disc in replacement, but not a San Marino!!

And btw, got a 5th basket today. 2nd place in advanced will get one as well.

I'm also going to post this 100 times between now and the tournament but I want it to be clear.....

IF YOU DO NOT CHECK IN AT BUCKHORN BY 8:30 AM YOU WILL LOSE YOUR SPOT AND WILL NOT GET A REFUND.

All players will now also recieve a tournament T-shirt courtsey of Health Space and Dr. Hightower.

So now Am player pack will be
San Marino Roc (for first 54)
Wizard
T-Shirt
Choice of Sticker or Key Chain

Player Pack Retail Value is 36 dollars. Only 19 dollars of entry fee will be taken out for this. This still leaves a great payout.

The T-shirts for the pros will not have anything deducted from their entry.

Thanks

MTL21676
Jul 11 2008, 07:08 PM
Ok, it's time to let the cat out of the bag. Here is the BIG surprise about this tournament.

This years tournament will feature a layout NEVER played before. The Buckhorn All Star Layout.

JJ and I talked about it and we will not play the longs or the shorts, we will play the best hole each hole. To me, Buckhorn is a great course from both layouts but some holes just are better from a different set of tees.

Please note some of the holes (like 5, 7, 14, and 18) the holes we picked were merely for score seperation reasons. We feel this par 55 layout will minimize some of the holes and shots that players (and we) don't like and give us an opportunity to play a great course for the openning round. Also this shorter layout will speed play up some what. After lots of debating, this is the layout we agreed on.

Long 1
Long 2
3 (one tee)
Long 4
Short 5
Short 6
Long 7
8 (one tee)
Short 9
Long 10
Long 11
12 (one tee)
Long 13
Long 14
15 (one tee)
Short 16
Short 17
Short 18

We understand that some holes (like 6 and 18) are great holes from the longs, but we feel this is the best layout for this tournament.

Everything will be marked clearly and we are super excited to play the new Buckhorn All Star Layout!!

I will bring it to you this weekend Rocky. Your support of this event has been amazing.

We have had 4 people put in over 100 dollars into this event, which just amazes me. I knew when I came up with the idea for this event that it would be a lot of fun but never in my wildest dreams did I think it would turn into something this big.

I'm so excited - this is going to be a long week at work!!

A note to you 58 ams...

I have sorted all the players packs and man they are sweet!

As noted, I only have 54 San Marino Rocs. I know there will be 5 people who will not get them. My original idea and the fairest way I can think of to pick the 4 people who don't them was the last 4 people to check in.

B/c I know it will suck to not get one, here is what I have done to replace it.

The 4 player packs that don't have a San Marino have a DX Aviar Driver and a Gateway disc (2 have assassins, 2 have elements). All player packs have Wizards too, btw.

IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO VOLUNTEER TO GET A PLAYER PACK WITH 3 DISCS THAT DOES NOT HAVE A SAN MARINO, LET ME KNOW!

If no one volunteers, the last 4 to check in will get that package. If 2 people volunteer, the last 2 to check in will get that package, etc.

I can't think of anything fairer....

PM me, email me (robertleonard01@yahoo.com) or call me (919-389-5780) and let me know if you would rather the 2nd option of player packs.

Robert, You have a 108 as 1 under par. Yet a 109 is 1 over par. And there's a 110 as 1 over par too.

Pro, Advanced, Pro Masters and Pro Women played a Par 55 layout this morning. Everyone else played a Par 54 layout this morning. That is why the numbers are different, don't compare the Par or your score to other divisions, only within your division.

quote from the article.
"After playing in a poorly run tournament six months ago, Leonard and Jernigan figured they could do better. "

Do you honestly expect me to answer that? Why does it matter, it was what it was....

just curious MTL... i guess i wasnt wondering about the tourney so much as to what you didnt like or agree with (learning from others mistakes) ... whatever it was you & JJ did what others should do... instead of just complaining step up and run a tourney the way you think it should be run.

Have fun tomorrow everyone!

Round 3 update - the field plays poorly.

Hot round is 47 by Scotty Faison and it leaps him into 5th.

Schweb (49) takes a 2 shot lead over Johansen (51) in open.

Beave and Doc are still tied.

Joe Noble takes the lead in advanced.

Off to cedar for the last round!!

I may, (accidently), have taught The Pro how to do that shot. I remember a gorilla grip thumber there that hit point down and didn't skip as well or at all, as the Pro's. Ironically, I won a pretty sweet disc for sponsoring that hole this weekend. Thanks again to all the work Robert and JJ put in. Not only well ran, smooth, but think of running a tnmt of that magnitude, plus having to pick up all the gear, and move to another course every time. Wow.

Yes, I agree. I meant to mention something about that and it totally slipped my mind.

For those who don't know, Steve broke his wrist in his throwing hand but decided to still play lefty. He dropped down to recreational for the event and said pretty much anything outside of 15 feet he had to throw lefty. Not only that, but when he dropped down, he donated the extra money into the purse.

Not only did he finish, but he chained out an ace on hole 7 at Buckhorn.

That is what this game is all about - having fun.

This event would not have happened without the following people
Kevin Smith Stamp designer, website use
Mike Norris Ordered Discs, paypal
Jason Clark designed the gateway stamp, hooked us up with them.
Sarah Reeves drawing the sponsorship signs
Robin Jernigan - helped with check in
Chase Jernigan - sweeping tees, parking
Kirk Yoo - helped with payout, course work, water, ordered baskets and countless other things
Larry Leonard - got us a basket
RADL - donated leaderboard cards, let me borrow the scoreport and tables.
Wake County Parks and Rec - use of Buckhorn, all the work on the course
Raleigh Parks and Rec - use of Kentwood and Cedar Hills, all the work on those courses
Dave Mansfield and Ben Layton - Big Z guys - getting us reserved for use of Zebulon
Zebulon Parks and Rec - use of Zebulon
My folks - for putting up with all the crap in thier house for the last month or so
And of course

Asst. TD Justin Jernigan for all of his help.

Once again, the large payout was due to so many generous sponsors. Those were :

Jeff Kozak, The Vibram Open at Maple Hill, UNC Disc Golf Club, Hawk Hollow Disc Golf Course, Jason Snapp, Matt Kulp, Mike Norris, Jason Clark, Robbie Dunn and Well Dunn Homes, Carlton Howard, Tim Wrenn, RADL, Scientific Disc Golf, Brandon Wrenn, Frank Murray, Mitch and Marsha Sonderfan, Brian and Ashley Schweberger, Kevin Smith Andrew Coggin, Wyatt Cogin, Rocky Geist, Dawn Geist, Susan Leonard, Donnie Leonard, New Hanover Disc Golf Club, One to Zoo Pet Sitting, Greenville Disc Golf Club, Play it Again Sports, Lowes Foods, Gateway, Innova, Scotty Faison, and Steve Mallinson.

Can't forget our 3 other 100 dollar sponsors
1. Kirk Yoo
2. Rocky Geist

And without a doubt our title sponsor, Dr. Hightower and Healthspace.

I really like what the Beave said in his speech. We now have a major sponsor in this area - if you ever needed or wanted to go to a chiropracter, now you have a reason.

Anytime you visit Health Space, please let them know how much you appreciate thier support of this event and all disc golf events in Raleigh.

WOW what a great tournament. There's not a whole lot I can say that somebody else hasn't posted already.

Congrats to Rocky for a great tournament and solid win, he fought hard and held all of us off like a champ. I personally think he's a pretty good rec player ;)

Thanks to MTL and JJ again for running this tournament, TD's cannot run a tournament without everyone else, but somebody has to be in charge or it doesn't work and they did an awesome job.

Thanks to everyone who sponsored the tournament, the amount of cash for the pros to play for was great and the discs the am's got were very nice too.

It was a pleasure to be in the group and see Stephen throw a lefty backhand on hole 7 and barely chain out at Buckhorn. What a shot! It looked good all the way.

I loved all the groups I played with, everybody was a great competitor and a lot of fun to hang with.

See ya'll at the next tournaments!

I took you off ignore for today b/c I was curious as to what you would have to say about an event that you didn't even attend.

No surprise to me, it was 100% negative.

First off, the tournament was 14 months ago, so that was incorrect.

Secondly, the words "figured could do better" were the authors, not mine. What I told the author was (loosely) "some things happened that we didn't agree with and felt the best way to handle it was run things our way instead of complaining about it like most people did that weekend." I could not control how the author chose to word the article. I chose the high road by doing something about it rather than complaining and I will continue on that high road so I will not mention the tournament or what happened.

Thirdly, if anyone thinks I contacted the NandO to glorify myself, then wow. I simply contacted them b/c I knew it would be a good thing for our sponsor, Health Space, to get his name in the paper and that would be a great starting point towards building a relationship with Dr. Hightower and his company for future events.

Fourthly, I guarantee most players if not everyone had a blast this weekend and I even asked players in the awards to please tell me anything they didn't agree with or something they thought should be better. If I was out to "boast myself" or anything silly like that, I doubt I would have said that. My goal for this event was and is to run a quality event with the players in mind. JJ and I are both players who have played lots of golf all over this country and we both have lots of knowledge of things we like and don't like at tournaments. We applied that knowledge towards this event and I would call it a successful one. In fact, I have already started towards next year. I already have about 200 dollars in added cash!

I'm sorry you are holding a grudge against me and have a problem with me. You are the one who needs to learn to do what I have done; ignore you. Voice your complaints with me and my tournament by not attending, don't do it by running your mouth on here and spilling out a bunch of crap trying to make me look bad about something I had no control over.

Welcome back to ignore!

Thanks for taking me off ignore, I think. What tourney were you talking about? Also, if a newspaper quotes you wrong, have them write a correction. The fact you won't acknowledge the tourney you dogged says a lot. I was really curious as to what and why, but you don't ever say. You just dog another with no evidence. Doesn't better the sport like you say you are always trying to do.

Oh and Bob, are you sure you didn't take me off ignore due to the manifestation of symptoms in lieu of meeting the diagnostic criteria for.............
