basket?
No, that's your deal. Per our (me U & Jon's) discussion last night, I am to have it before 7am on Friday morning. I've e mailed Maggie & let her know that I'm prepared to have it to her Friday AM & I don't expect that you & Jon are gonna leave me hangin'. There's no room for error & I'm confident that all my work will not go unrewarded.
Went by to do some putting and B-hole is complete except for the basket. It has the hole dug and ready for pole and cement. Couldn't see how far down the hole was but hope it was at least 5 feet. So all thats left is place in the long post and pour in a few bags of concrete.

A huge thanx to everyone that helped make the new B Hole a reality (especially the cabinet members that make these things happen - thanx boyz)!!! I just left the basket (Thanx Vinnie & Jon) @ the park with the parks workers (Kenny, Xavier, & Raul) & the green is amazing!!! If you happen to see these men in the park, be sure to give them a big thanx. We'll be taking a club picture on the new hole soon - maybe Wednesday - to send to Rick in appreciation for drawing the green for us. (Thanx Rick & P Dub)
Just got off the phone with Maggie @ the parks & the city will be cutting the cable & installing walk ways @ all the regular hole crossings (4-5, 10-A, A-11 - no winter crossing yet) & will be working soon on the deconstruction of the silk fence on C/B hole. I'm hopeful that this engaging proactive behavior continues & that many more projects will be coming together soon for disc golf @ the ROCK!!
There is a picture of a putter with an LT on it in the chains as the workers finished! Virgin Chains! :D:D

Those of you that have said you want to & can help, the time is now - the tournament is a month away. There is too much to be done to wait until the last minute for the physical work & tons of leg work is still to be done behind the computer. There's no reason that with ya'lls help we can't start crossing stuff off the list a lot quicker. So, you can't help when the times are announced for course stuff? Get with Edman & see if there's something you can't take off his plate during your time. This is a Double R Disc Golf Club tournament - one person can't make an event all fluff and perfect. Players have expectations of tournaments in Texas & we (as a club) need to step up to the plate & show 'em what Round Rock is like!

Thanks V, Sheriff, Godbold, C-dub and I think I saw Carroll back there yesterday for going out with me on the SOuth COurse. That is going to be one tough course. We ended up making at least 3 holes alot longer. ROUND ROCK. If it's too long your too old, or your just a whiney *** b^&*.

Aug 22 2009, 06:05 PM
Almost forgot to thank Jimmie who was also there and helped really bring the big holes into perspective. Which means making them longer of course. Need your help tomorrow before mini. Tony Pugh has stepped up and is making the 9 sleeves we need for the front 9 this weekend. With everything he has going on he's going to make it happen and be sure to thank him the next time you see him. I need a couple of people to meet me at the storage facility at 8:30am to load all the baskets up in my truck so I can get the tabs welded on the baskets Monday night up at my work. I'll also need another truck to haul them from my work back to the storage facility Monday night. We will set all the sleeves Tuesday night.
edman
Aug 24 2009, 12:34 PM
Got all the sleeves from Tony Saturday. Just waiting to hear back from the parks dept. on the holes they are to dig. My buddy here at work is welding the tabs on the baskets today and I can't get them all in my truck to get back to storage. I'll need help loading them and hauling them between 5-6 tonight. Also need someone to run to Home Depot and get concrete or go with me to get the crete. We'll need about 15 bags so no small task. Big arm can you get us a discount from your work. Let me know if you can get them and the club will pay you back. And that goes for anyone that can get it. Just sound off so we don't get it twice. The workday is planned for tomorrow. Again let us know, I may need to recruit some others if we can't get a good showing. The parks wants the holes filled as quickly as possible to avoid anyone breaking their ankles. Lot's to do and I need everybody's help.
thanks,

Just curious as to why sleeves are being set, rather than using temp baskets. Is it easier to do the sleeves? Or is it that with sleeves in......makes it "easier" the NEXT time around? :D
I'm up for helping out tomorrow after work...you can put me down. What time?
edman
Aug 24 2009, 05:29 PM
The baskets the club bought are not portable. To convert them would be expensive and time consuming. Having sleeves in the ground will give us a "foothold" for the future of DG in RR. It's also a security issue, we don't have to worry about them while they are out there or have to haul them to and from the course everyday. We should be able to start at 5ish tomorrow.
your best deal would be Home depot..we sell concrete but it is really priced to high........they have more stores and buy more than we can.........and besides, they cut off our employee discount accounts last year...........so I know yall can get it cheaper at the depot!!!!!

My Welding guy had to run to the Hosp. with his son. I won't need help tonight. This will not stop us from doing the sleeves tomorrow. Just heard from the parks and the holes will be done by tomorrow. I'll let you guys know when I need a hand with the baskets.

Good question JohnE - Sleeves make it easier this time too. We could work to scrounge together 17 baskets of varied quality (years past @ Waterloo ring a bell for anyone) to pull together the south course. We could hope/worry that on game day all 17 baskets showed up on time & then wrangle staff to set them up Saturday @ 7a, pick them up @ 6p, take them all to the storage unit overnight, find people to pick them all up from the storage unit in the am & put them back Sunday @ 7a & pick then up @ 5p - hoping all the while that no one drove into the stadium parking lot & stole 3-5 of them & that no one dropped a basket on it's number plate & bent 419 in half (oops - yes it did happen) & then we could store those baskets that didn't belong to players or that people forgot or didn't have trucks to take them until we found a way to get all of them back to their rightful owners.
Instead, we asked the city to dig 9 holes & Tony was kind enough to make us 18 sleeves & collars the Saturday before he left to get married. Now all we have to do is mix a few bags of crete & set 9 sleeves pick up 9 baskets sometime Friday before Dubs & lock em in - then we go pick them up Monday am & put them back in storage. If the Hott Final is in OSP, we'll pick them up again in November, drop them in the sleeves & lock them down until Monday again.
I know sometimes I get frustrated with you guys & can come off like an *** - that's not my intent this time - I'm actually trying to give you a real explanation of how & why setting these temp holes is easier & better for the short & the long haul. If you can help tonight & can grab a bag of crete or 2 on you way there, we could sure use the help - if not, we'll see you in the fairway. Thanx for comin out.

I guess there is some confusion about this South Course. Don't know why, I have been very forward with my information and communicated clearly with the clubs goals for this course. This is a temporary course that can be used at any time in the furure with approval. This is not a one time shot at creating a 2nd course just for this years Outlaws. This is also a catalyst for the club to get a "foothold" on creating a permanent South Course. We would not be able to use that many of these holes if some day we did make a permanent South Course. But we have to start somewhere and since our feeling is it will be years before the city will approve a perm layout we have this to prod them with and show them that we can bring great events to the city.
As I have known in the past, the passion of a few can't carry a club. It's too bad we all don't want the same thing as far as tournaments go. If you can help great, if not just show up later and enjoy.

I wanted to throw this out there for youz RR peeps. Im not sure of his last name but a gentleman by the name of Kevin is planning on being the TD for a tournament at the Rivery on Sunday Dec. 13th. Kevin was the TD for the Hamilton Creek Open in Burnet, Tx recently.
Anyway he posted on the early birds that he is planning on having work days every sunday up until the tourney starting Nov. 1st. I know he is looking for all the help he can get for not only the workdays but also for players for a great turn out.
Here is some info from the earlybirds website (http://www.earlybirdsdiscgolf.org/)
From Kevin,
"Thanks to the effort of Manny Gonzales we will have all the needed materials to fix up the Rivery Park!!!
Now it's time to get the work in.. First work day will be Sunday, November 1st at 9am.
I have 1 Pick Axe, 2 Shovels, 1 Rake, 1 branch/briar cutter, 1 fold out saw, 4 5gallon buckets, 1 scraper (for the targets) and some sand paper..
We will surely need more tools and we REALLY NEED someone with a Golf Cart / Mule or whatever they are called. Moving granite gravel a bucket at a time is a unique form of torture.
Get with Manny Gonzales or with me if you have questions or have tools/supplies you can bring.
I will go ahead and get the date official from the PDGA for Sunday, December 13th...
Thanks,
Kevin"
From Manny Gonzales
"I spoke with Eric from the Gtown PARD and they are going to be supplying Mulch and Granite Gravel for the tee boxes for The Rivery. I will be speaking with a Operations Manager next week on the specifics. Told him its for a Tourney we are having on Dec 13th and that we would be working every sunday in November to make it happen. They really appreciated our help on this with The Rivery. They will get us enough gravel for 4x10 boxes and mulch for around the baskets. They will strategically place mounds on different parts of the course so we dont have to lug it all from the parking lot."
Anyway I just wanted to post that here so hopefully we all can work together to help out some fellow golfers.
Happy Hucking,
Jason

I personally think crushed granite tees will bring Rivery Park down a notch. I played there yesterday after heavy rains the day before and the tees were all playable and not slippery, which is pretty amazing.
What the Rivery really needs is some signage to make it more welcoming to first timers.
james_mccaine
Oct 28 2009, 04:53 PM
A point worth contemplating. Study Pease's boxes (Peace's boxes in dragonspelling) and then decide.
It might be that you have a different type of granite gravel; it might be that you will do a better job of constructing them; or it might be that Pease' boxes would have worked with regular maintenance, but I still would be cautious about using granite gravel given the Pease experience.
shannonator
Oct 29 2009, 04:14 PM
Rivery Park now has mounds of crushed granite near each of the tee pads that are east of the bridge (holes 1-5 and 13-18) and a large mound on the path between 3 and 4 which will be for the pads west of the bridge (holes 6-12) after it dries out enough to get equipment back there.
Workdays will start Sunday Nov.1 and go every Sunday until it's done.

Woody & I can help if you've got a trash picker for us. Played yesterday am & it looks BAD. I have a plan lined up for the Fing butts around the tee boxes. Can't wait til they get another course in Austin so these nasty peeps will go play somewhere else.

Edman contacted the parks last I heard - not sure if he got a reply.
Are we gonna bake some biga$$ pies? I'm having a hard time figuring out what we're gonna do with racks on a disc golf course. :)

Hey guys - if your free on Thursday or Friday - or both - we could use a little help with course set up & marking.
Blake & JD are working Thursday to install the final rope & flagging of the 21 hole course. Please let JD/Blake or Edman/Vinnie know if & when you can lend a hand Thursday with course marking.
Friday they'll be setting the 9 fixed holes on the south course - Please let JD/Blake/Ware know if you can help set the pins & mark the south course Friday afternoon.
We also need to replace 2 sleeves, they were removed when the water line was put in. Edman is gonna lead up the sleeve install Friday afternoon - please let him know if you can lend a hand with the sleeves. We're gonna ask & are hopeful that the city will dig & we'll just need a bag of crete for each sleeve, water, & a little man power.
Thanx for all you do!!!

I know not all of our club members use facebook, so I wanted to share this with those of you who still read the discussion board. The following was posted by Kevin Eldredge who along with Abel Gonzalez, runs 4TheChains disc golf:
"ANNOUNCEMENT DISC GOLFERS!
Just got off the phone with the main man at Georgetown Parks and Rec and he has given the OK to start initial work on CONCRETE TEE BOXES for the Rivery Park. I need some help (since I live out in nowhere tx) to get me an estimate on the square footage of concrete we would need to get all 18 holes done.. I will need volunteers to help install the boxes when the day comes! Score ONE for DISC GOLF!"
Lala has provided some information to Kevin that was used during the Wilco pour, to help get him started. A few club members have said that they wish to help with this project.
This will be a great improvement and help bring more tournaments to Rivery Park as well as enhance our casual play there. If you haven't been out there in a while, the city has been doing lots of clearing and cleaning of brush that has been left by the last floods.
We as a club have already done tons to improve OSP, Wilco, Cat Hollow, Rivery, as well as getting Northtown in the ground. This project will require lots of support to complete, and I hope that we as a club will make a huge effort to show that the Double R is still at the forefront of local course improvement. Stay tuned here for details as they become available.
