Thats right!! President's don't do the work, they order the work done...Just like Micheal Dell, your boss..Does he get his fingers dirty.....Does G.W. Hey there Round Rockers, I played Wilco yesterday and those tee boxes sure are rough. Not to mention they have been moved all over the place from there original locations. I have heard Wilco will be getting concrete tee boxes and would like to help any way I can. Please keep us posted on when workdays will be and what is needed besides man power. I know the course is maintained by Williamson County and it is not RRDGC's job to maintain the course. In fact the course looks great except for the tee boxes. Anyway, I would love to see another course get concrete boxes.

We are presently gathering material, I think we have enough wire, wood for the forms should not be an issue. But if you could load up some concrete in you car the day of pour /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif The double R will dishing the cash out for concrete (THIS WILL NOT BE CHEAP)
We are planning some fund raisers.
The big things will be building the forms and pour day.
We will need lots of manpower....and then of course tee box sitters.
The plan is to have concrete at Cat Hollow and Wilco before the end of the year.
So yeah we will need help.
And I am sure we will make it clear when and where.

Lala
Jun 18 2008, 04:41 PM
Vinnie - The concrete has been donated again. Read your e mails in more detail.

The big expenses will be equipment rental - some of this will be covered by Wilco, some by Waterloo, & some by the Double R. We will hold some fund raisers for this effort soon.

What we need more that anything is man power. Send me an e mail to [email protected] & you'll be included int the construction loop. Thanx for th eoffer of help!! :)

Today's the day. I'm submitting our proposal to the county for the new boxes @ Wilco. I hope I've thought of everything & will let you know as soon as I know something concrete. :) :) May need to move pretty fast on these to keep the cost as low as we propose - prices are rising daily on building materials. I've asked that in return for the over $10,000 of materials & labor that we'll be providing that Wilco give any volunteer with 15 hours or more time donated to this project a free year pass. Not for supervising, for actually working. We'll see what they say - worst they can do is tell us no. :)

vinnie
Jul 15 2008, 10:17 AM
great news and good luck!
Does your proposal include box size?
My concern is above ground box will need to be designed or big enough to keep from players adding a step up to the run up?
by the way I got yahs fancy duds from the berlinds.....shore like the shoes that fellers got :D

Lala
Jul 15 2008, 04:00 PM
Shoes make the man V.

OK - here's the news. Original box locations will be marked ASAP - by Mike Olse or John Houck. Tee box sizes to be location specific - narrow at the line with run-up for left & right handed players when space is available (Timmie, Goblin, & Edman). We will begin making forms as soon as we've determined each box size & shape (EVERYONE). When the county has completed the new Cedar Park Course (2 weeks), we will paint each box with the shape of it's form & they will scrape the tee boxes. We'll set the forms & pour the concrete in the 2 days to follow. The concrete people met with me today as well & we agree that we can drive to all but about 5 boxes & we'll have the county using the bobcat to fill those. The next day we'll remove the forms & backfill. The course will be closed for this entire 3 day period.

The county will provide the equipment & operators & all the rest is on us. Waterloo has stepped up to help with this project & boy will we be using them. Thanx in advance for everything this will take to make happen. As soon as we have dates - you will too. :)

Oh yea & they'd like us to assemble & install the baskets @ the new course like we did @ Wilco...

The boxes @ Wilco were marked on Monday. I'll contact the county - who is finishing work on the new Cedar Park 9 hole - Tuesday & see when they can start & complete the scraping of the tee boxes. As soon as I know when they're working, we'll have an idea of when the forms will have to be completed. We still need to collect more lumber, right now we have enough for 4 - 6 boxes (Russell/other wood people - let me know what you can do & when someone can come pick stuff up). I will send out form building work dates, box painting dates (day before boxes are scrapped), form setting dates, & pour dates as soon as they've been finalized. I look forward to seeing the family teamwork that we always bring together on these big projects. Thanx to each of you for what you've already done & will continue to do to make disc golf great in Round Rock & Central Texas!!

Jul 22 2008, 05:00 PM
OK - here we go, fast & furious, just like I said. The county is done with their work on the Cedar Park 9 hole the end of this week & are ready to start scraping the boxes Tuesday. So, what we need is to have the forms completed ASAP - no later than Wednesday. We still need some lumber & need to schedule a work day or 2 this weekend (I know Manor, but not everyone is playing & I hope Keith can take the lead on this for me). Monday night, we need to paint the size & shape of the boxes on the ground @ Wilco just before dark so they can dig. We have the paint & paint wand, just need a template to go by & I'm sure the form builders can give us guidelines. Tuesday night we need to set the forms and lay the screen & Wednesday we need to pour (hours TBA) & Thursday break forms & back fill.

Mike - is Tuesday OK for you to go with the county on the scraping?

Russell - can you secure enough lumber for the rest of the forms by Saturday?

Keith,Goblin, Tim - can you work together to coordinate a workday to build the forms?

Tim - can you schedule the concrete for Wednesday & send me the delivery time? 1 truck at a time please. Thanx

Waterloo - can you contact you members regarding needed support for this weekend & early next week?

All Club Members - we have a short time to make this happen. If you have time to help, we need every minute you have. Tuesday we'll need shovels, hoes (no not like that), cordless saws all, axes, sledgehammers, etc. Wednesday we also need concrete tools. Thursday shovels. Saturday, & or Sunday, we need people to help with the forms (maybe @ Keith's house). All 5 days we need bodies all over the place - if you don't have a shovel or a hoe in your hand, course clean up brings good karma - so let's make this happen.

I know this seems like short notice, but we've been saying it would be just like this for a few weeks now. I know we can do this & be successful. Thanx to all of you

Amount of wood needed is 594 linear feet of 2x6 to make 18 boxes. This assumes the box is 12 feet long and tapers from 3 feet to 6 feet at the back. And yes, all boxes should be the same size. I was at the park today and it appears that only the front of each box was marked. I will make myself available Friday to help with forms (or anything else) if necessary. I know some of you don't know me very well but when it comes to improving courses, I will give you all the time I can spare.

turbo.....That is so kind of you,a tear comes to my eye when I hear someone from Austin talking like they know tee boxes :D
This is going to be a logistic nightmare....we will have to do the corp.thing....throw as many people as possible at it

Lala
Jul 23 2008, 09:07 AM
They will NOT all be the same size Turbo sorry, yes in a perfect world, they would be. By Houck design, the course does not allow for this & limited supplies may also affect our ability for perfection. Around here, you do the best with what you have available & were pretty **** good. Now if you have an unlimited supply of $$, well build them however you want. Yes, only the front is marked as the actual boxes have not been engineered yet. Do not make any assumptions as you've not been in on the last project or the planning phase. Some will need 2 x 4's, not 2 x 6 based upon how deep we can actually dig. Per our engineers recommendation, we will cut & prepare, but not assemble these boxes until we're setting them - a team of cordless tools will make this possible (I know we've got some tools out there). Last time we could drive to each box, building at each hole this time will reduce labor & transportation needs. Thanx for the help & I'll post work days, hors & locations ASAP.

Current plan -
today Timmie & Edman to assess all tee box sizes. Keith pick up old forms.

Thursday PM - Sunday - start form prep, marking & bundling each form as it is cut. Make sample string forms to mark course for dig. Mark all 18 holes

Monday & Tuesday - assemble & set forms & wire as they dig. This will ensure they've dug deep enough & hopefully limit some of the manual labor aspect.

Wednesday - pour & finish boxes

Thursday - break forms & backfill

Next weekend play our asses off!!!

Just trying to help with calculating the lumber needed. I realize now that without clearing behind some of the teeboxes, 12 feet is more room than we have. I always told Mr.Houck he needed to think about the people with big run-ups, and he said "Why do you need a run-up?".

And Vinnie, I may be from Austin, but I have been enough places to know what a good concrete tee box looks like and it is 12 feet long and tapered.

So what everyone think of the new pin postion on #16?

Not bad........heck, if I can reach it (which I did but missed the 16' putt) everyone should......but it does bring the water back into play a little more than before......but then again...it would not be the ROCK unless it was long and hard :o:o:o

Me and Timmay went and marked the boxes this morning and they are marked at 4' in the front, 6' in the back, and 12' long. Only #5 has to be different. If they move it up 1'a 12' box will fit, if not we'll make it 11'. Form cutting party at Keith's house today after the mini. John Donaldson is hooking us up big time with the lumber. He'll be bringing to Keith's around 1. Get the word out, C-dub send this to all members if you get a chance. Waiting to hear back from the county to see if we can start dropping forms down tomorrow.

With what I have in the yard now.......we have enough lumber for all the fronts (4') and all the backs (6')........what ever John is bringing..DON'T......if its not 12' or better then we don't need it as what we have is enough for the fronts & back's.....what we need now is 12' for the sides and I don't have any of those.........so we need 36-2x6x12's.............If anyone has any of these....give me a call 784-7252........ :)

Truck arrives @ 3 with 10 yards of concrete & it will start to set in about 3 hrs. We should be able to finish 10-12 boxes today & start breaking forms & backfilling Thursday while the last few boxes are finished. The concrete truck will be driving onto the course over by 2's basket & we can start with 2,3,& 1 (bobcat to 1) at the same time if we have enough people to work the crete. We can have him move over to 4 & do 4, 11, 12 & 5 from there (bob cat to 5, wheel barrows to 12). I think he can drive the path & then down 10 to do 10 & 14... We'll need to have it pretty tightly cooriagraphed, but I know together, we'll make this happen. Thanx again for all the hard work - think about our 1st Sunday mini @ Wilco with concrete boxes... Just got off the phone with Edman. 10 yards arriving @ 3:00 with another on hold for us. If we can get enough people & wheelbarrows together, we'll be done pouring today & will have Friday to ourselves as we'll only have to breakforms & backfill Thursday. That's a tall order, but if anyone can, it's the Double R. :) Wheel barrows are a must - if you got one bring it. If you have an air compressor (the plugs into a cig lighter) bring it. Nothing worse than a wheelbarrow with a flat full of crete. :)

Ed's going to contact Brushy Creek Mud & see if they can store the forms & screen until that project comes up. My next thought was Jon D & then Keith as a LAST resort (doubt Lori would go for that). When we break them off, Ed will bring the trailer & we can figure it out from there.

As for money - Let's stop the rumors right here. No one is/has paid for the crete yet. There's still a VERY slight chance it may be donated & I'm actively working with the county (not the city) to see how they're able to comtribute to the unexpected costs. The club has not been committed to pay for the crete & Ed & I have paid for all of the supplies so far. If the cabinet/club members don't agree to cover the expense until we're able to recouperate the money, then Ed & I will pay for everything & Ed & I will figure out how to get the money returned to us. (Since from what I hear this was all my idea in the first place). Now, let's worry about the money when it's time (next week after we're billed) & focus on completing the project.

Things look great out there, but today will be a kicker - please get to the park ASAP. There will be TONS of work in addition to pouring the 6 boxes we have left. Thanx for all that you've done - this is the best club in Texas... [censored], maybe anywhere... ROUND ROCK!!

13, 15, 16, 17, 18, & 8 (as far as what I remember). Keith - that puts you on point for truck guiding, I'll cover the finish work you were doing & should be there @ 3. & Hell yea for Byron - this project would NEVER have gone so smoothly without Byron as our foreman (and main laboror as well). I think he deserve a gift certifacte for club merchandise. (Again just my opinion, not a decision).

Cat Hollow project??? Lets think about this for a second.........Wilco is not done yet.......incurred a few bumps in the road with wilco......I say before we even think about Kitty Kat we have in writing from the county/BCMud whomever that states they pay for everything up front which includes our CLUB being paid to this.. like a flat fee of 1,000.00 for the labor...should not do concrete pads for county's parks anymore unless we as a club get a fee for doing such service....I know, concrete is the way to go and the problem is everyone in the county knows we are the ones that can get it done.....we should stand our ground and just say..you want concrete, you pay for it........no if ans or butts about it.........we supply labor only and its not free.....Take Byron as an example.......has not worked all week...does not have a salary job....all he has done was lose money each day, a few others who do have salary jobs have skipped out of work for this project, taking a chance they could lose their jobs...any new projects in the future should be voted on by the WHOLE CLUB and only then would be think about doing the job........I just think that all these courses have seen or heard about our work and just think that since we play these courses that WE should put in the boxes for them..sometimes at our own exspence.....horse dunk.....they have more $$$$ than we do..and they should foot the bill and again..that includes US getting $$$$ for doing it......Not sure what to do about Byron....but plastic is not the answer.......this guy needs more than that.......I'm off my soap box now, and i hope no one takes this the wrong way..just looking out for the members of our club who havegone above and beyond on our current project..........

Thanks for your understanding

Your President Keith "Bigarm" May

How bout we talk about other projects if & when they come together. I was talking about where to store product safely that doesnt trash up a club members property and in fact, the club should have a storage unit instead of my front bedroom & garage, then wed have a place to store the lumbar & wire as well as all the stuff at our place. We have not gotten F'd by the county yet, as we don't know the end resolution to this project yet. Theyve help physically WAY more than the city did this project is just harder (& we all knew that going in). Everyone needs to settle down until we actually know what the end result is & stop Fing speculating what is going to or not going to happen. (On the Wilco or any other project). All the energy that's being put into trying to guess who's going to do what, how & when is wasted & frustrating for all of us. Just live with what we know factually for right now & when the rest of the facts (fact, not rumors or speculation) are settled, we'll address the issues that remain.

Just sent an e mail to the county stating we'd be done today & asking for the backfill & mulch circles to be comleted by them. I also mentioned the vandalism we witnessed & requested the contact information for "the right people" to talk to regarding county payment for the crete & memberships for the workforce. I also said we want to be the ones to speak with "the right people" as we feel no one else can present our case with the passion we posess for this project & disc golf. Ahhh yes whiskey skins on concrete. We don't need to tell the county anything, nobody carry there golf bag to the course till after 4:30. They'll be long gone by then, it's Friday. Those dudes are standing at the timeclock at 4:28 daily waiting to punch out. Doubt I'll be bringing the trailer today, I've drug that thing around enough this week. I'll probably bring it Sunday. That way the people that couldn't make it out to help this week can still help, they can load it for us while we all sit back and admire there stacking abilities. Bring out your dead today....and your $5 Carroll. My password quit working for a week now, I wonder if that moderator McCain had anything to do with it. He must be jealous that his courses don't have concrete on them. Just heard from Byron, we are 100% de-formed and the county is backfilling as we speak.

Me and C-dub were able to clear all the form boards from Wilco and get them to Brushy Creek MUD yesterday. Sorry you missed out on that JD. They are storing them for THERE upcoming t-box project in the fall/winter. Now is that project finally done?

Lala
Aug 08 2008, 02:56 PM
Yes - as far as the manual labor it's done. Still a bunch of administative stuff (getting money) to be done, but you boys are done for now.

Now - OSP boxes need some work before Outlaw's. We need to take an edger or 3 out there & edge & sweep all of them. I'm confident this list will continue to grow. Let's see if we can't get some help from people that were not able to contribute to the Wilco work days... Can't hurt to hope that it wont always be the same core group doing everything. :)

Kudos for everyone's hard work at Wilco. I finally got out there this weekend and the boxes look great.

On a side note, does anyone know if they're going to have concrete at the new Parmer/Brushy Creek course?...and are they going to put a whole 18 in all at once or just 9 and then come back and add 9 at a later date? I was out there this weekend and saw they've completed the tree clearing for about 9 holes....

Aug 11 2008, 08:46 PM
i think it will be a 9 then another 9 I think they want the DOUBLE R to drop in the baskets. so if / when that happens we will be looking for volunteers. Glad to hear you enjoyed the new tee boxes allot of sweat went into those (literally) :D

Spoke with David and he has assured me the dam project will be complete at the end of this month. We will have to wait till then to re-install #15 and # c baskets.
I will be moving # 2 back today and David will let me know when I can pick up the tee sign for # 16( we will have to install)
I would like to back fill some of the tee boxes before OUTLAWS.....if anyone has a wheel barrel....get with me so we can cordinate moving some dirt.
Wilco is ready...lets make sure the Rock is ready!

Wheel barrel?

Lala
Aug 22 2008, 10:19 AM
List of things that I know need to be done -

Some back filling on several holes
13 needs a snow shovel & eventually a retatining wall
all boxes need edged
dead tree removal around 8, 9, & 13

I have a wheel barrow, but I think it's got a flat - I could bring it out in the truck tonight if you want to wrestle with getting the tire filled. Just let me know. I'll be home no later than 4:30. Didn't see you last night, must have been done early - stupid Dell nerds never really work do they. JK :)

I have shovels out the ares at the house, but it'd be pressin' it to be home by 3:30 to bring them to you - wheel barrow just needs air, no puncture. Let me know what you want & I'll try & make it happen @ the park by 4. :) Then skins & whiskey.

Cleaned up # C's basket and bought new bolts. Going to assemble the basket today and looking to plant after work.
I am trying to get a hold of David Buzzel to get an idea what they are doing with the back of the dam. I am afraid I plant it on the up slope of the dam the ground would not support the basket.
But the plan is to buy concrete and plant today....hopefully a COMPLETE 21 holes for Wednesday.
Anyone with spare time that can weedeat/lawnmow the area around Hammocks rock pile and behind #17 basket would be very helpfull............if not I am sure I will get around to it next week.......thanks for EVERYONE's help and input

The parks department has not returned my call on what the final look will be on the back of the dam, so I am unsure if this is the end location for the basket....We will find out.

C Hole has been moved - played it last night. It's kinda on the ridge at the bottom with all the limestone.

The new order changes up the winter course a little, but we can either play b-hole from by C's basket (where the new box is) & by 15's basket (& then going to 4 - backward 12) making the winter course a 20 hole course or just play it from by 15's basket & go to 4 skipping C like before keeping the winter course @ 18 holes

I'm not disagreeing with it being put up in the air, it was liked by a few. It shouldn't of been able to be stolen so easily if that was going to be done to it. I'll call the pocketman and let him tell us the best way to install it if we choose to go that route again.

Your "mound" could have a base of those "[email protected]" lime stone boulders they used to line the street along the far right of #17.

Don't know where to get'em but I do not see any street truck backing into one of those. If the city provided those... maybe they have six or eight extra. Make you a hexagon/octagon "Round Rock" hole.
