Hello Captain,
The Three Palms hotel was arranged to be the host hotel but they pulled out of the agreement all of a sudden. Dan Ginnelly is meeting today with another hotel and we will have that information up right away.

Sign up early, especially on the AM side. ( Will probably fill before end of Jan). We are taking less AMs than normal, due to scheduling issues. You can sign up online for the first time, and courses will be even better this year. I will get the course maps w/ footages up much earlier. Pin placments will change at the Fountain, and Vista will start and finish differently. I will update you when things are more set in stone. ( When Dano and I are done fighting over changes). Can't wait to see everyone!

Hello all,
We have worked out a deal with the Hospitality Suite Resort (http://www.hospitalitysuites.com/index.cfm) in Scottsdale, AZ. You will need to call them quick since they would only block a maximum of 20 rooms for the event. This time of year with baseball training camp as well as the beautiful weather it doesn't take much to sell out the hotels in the area. The details are below:
*****
Jr. King Suite One Bedroom Suite
$95.00sgl\dbl $119.00 (up to 4)
The Jr. King Suite features a king size bed with kitchenette; perfect for a single or couple. The One Bedroom Suite will feature a separate bedroom, with option of queen bed or two twin beds, separate living room with queen pullout sofa sleeper and full kitchen.
Booking Procedures:
Guests will need to contact hotel directly or use our toll free number at 800-445-5115 and refer to the "Memorial Disc Tourney", at that time we will take their own personal info and credit card guarantee, which is required by all.
Booking Deadline:
Deadline to book any rooms at our property will be January 10, 2007. Any reservations required after that date will be subject to availability and group rates originally extended.
Amenities Included:
Full cooked to order breakfast served daily 6:00am-10:00am.
Unlimited complimentary cocktails served poolside 5:00pm-6:30pm.
*****
We will still be working hard to get more discounted rates at other hotels for the event and I will keep you posted as that happens.

He's already LOST a bunch of money on side bets this year........ /msgboard/images/graemlins/ooo.gif
He doesnt want to start off '07 in the HOLE
I havent been on in a while!!! How about 5 5 5 and 5................5 For each seperate round and 5 for total???
I was thinking something more creative. How about something like this:
We count total score only, whoever loses has to give the other one the disc they used as their primary putter and they have to write, "I got beat at the 2007 Memorial by ____." And then sign it and hand it over!
Shouldn't be a big loss for you if I win 'cause your sponsored by Dcraft and whatnot! What do you think?

Think about it, I want your putter on my wall!
I love this idea! I'm a Florida State alum, and they have a little fenced in "turf graveyard" next to the stadium where they plant pieces of turf that have been cut out of the stadiums where they won road games.
Think of the taunts in between rounds: "How's my soon-to-be-new putter workin' for ya?"
Of course - I'd never make that bet...

Looking at my flying options, in order to get to Phoenix a day early to practice I would have to leave work at 10am on Wednesday and not arrive back until 10am Monday. And on top of that, that is flying stand-by so that I could afford it.

Mailed in registration needs to be post marked by Jan 11 to have a chance to get in.
The only sure way to get registered over the next few days is on line.
Mailed in reg. is first come first served until we are full, this process takes a few days after we receive your form. There will be a waiting list after that. online will close, and any requests after that must be mailed in.
This is only for the am side, we can and will take up to 200 on the pro side.
Gaff

Jan 10 2007, 03:38 PM
Am side is nearly full, mailed in registration that is in transit will probably fill in the last spots. I know of 12 mailed in registrations waiting to be uploaded onto the confirmed entrants. there are less than 20 openings left, minus what is in the mail.
online registration may also close as early as this evening depending on how many sign up today .
again this is only for the Am side of the tourney.
disregard that Jan 11 deadline as there has been a last minute rush online.
We will have a preview of the hole maps up soon. Vista is nearly done, and the Fountain should be some time after that. You will be able to down load both courses, with great info on distances, O.B., and distances to and from the pins from recognizable land marks on the course..
Those who may want to sponsor a hole on the coarse, will get their names on both the tee signs and on the players hole by hole map if you respond early enough. hole sponsorship is 100 dollars this year. If interested click on the sponsor link, on the memorial websight... disqman.com

I am NOT posting as an official tournament staff person but simply as a guy helping with registrations.
I would assume that a few people that have pre-registered will likely get bumped into different divisions since minimum requirements were not made. (Min of 4 participants to host a division).
For instance, Cindy Graham - 29169 will likely get moved into the Advanced Women division and NOT be in a division of 1 as she currently is listed. (Looks like her rating is VERY comparable anyway).
Also, Scot Jamison - 23278 will have a choice to make. Instead of him being solo in a division he could participate in Intermediate division or Advanced Grandmasters. It's not too likely but he could of course compete in Advanced and Advanced Masters as well. I'm guessing he'll move into Advanced Grands.
Again, these are just assumptions on my part. I will wait for final confirmation from these competitors (or staff) before I officially shift anyone around.
Similar scenarios will take place in the Pro Divisions but we won't worry about that until we get closer to a full field.
Looking forward to AZ in March!

Fountain will remain the same.
Vista will change some, tourney holes 3,4,5 are different and the ob down the west side of the course will be a little wider, except where it splits two fairways.
Will have a map up pretty soon.

Hey everyone!
So here is the deal I called Paypal earlier today and low and behold its officially a bug on their end. This known issue is currently being worked on but they have no idea when it will be 100% functional. The craziest part about these errors is that only a dozen have received them. In fact, it appears that almost 20 payments have gone through in the past 4 days while only 10 havent. There apparently is no rhyme or reason to it. It is definitely on their end and it has nothing to do with your account or my account.
I do have some work around solutions for online payment so please send me an e-mail or PM me if you have any problems with using the site. Again, try it first because about 2 out of 3 have been working just fine.
Again, sorry about this - darn Paypal!

Ill have to think about that!!! I just got my putter nice and beat in the way I like it........Id be willing to bet like ten total and the loser has to buy a 2007 Memorial Supercolor disc and write the same thing on it???

Remember, for NT events, there are spots saved for touring pros. I'm sure we will see those ladies & gentlemen who represent our sport at its highest level, considering this is the 1st 2007 Tour event.
From the NT Tour book...
4.2 For PDGA National Tour events, (24) openings in the field of play will be held for players holding a PDGA Touring Pro Card up to (14) days prior to the start of the event. These openings will be filled on a first come-first served basis

Jay,
I am not sure all of that still holds true for 2007. If you check the new competition manual you'll find this:
<font color="blue">
1.2. Tournament Registration
A. Pre-registration is required for PDGA Major & National Tour events and strongly suggested for
all other tier events.
B. A player is officially entered in the event when their entry fee is received at the tournament
address.
C. All openings in the field of play will be filled on a first come-first serve basis, until the allocated
places in each division have been filled.
D. The order of entries received will be according to the postmark of the package containing the
entry fee payment.
E. Entries received via an on-line entry method shall be date and time-stamped based on the
actual time the entry fee is received at the on-line entry point.
F. In the event that multiple entries are received simultaneously, the player with the lowest PDGA
number shall have priority.
G. Posting of the pre-registration list on pdga.com is required for Major & National Tour events
(see sanctioning agreement for details) and strongly suggested for all others.</font>

These 24 have already registered for the Memorial. These 24 would earn 2007 touring cards based on the standards used to determine the 2006 touring card holders. The 24 touring card spots should already be filled....no need to hold more spots for touring card holders...it's now totally a free-for-all.....well, that is if the same standards are applied this year (and I imagine they'll be close if not exactly the same).

Wow, the response has been amazing. This is the earliest we have sold out this tourney. The pro waiting list is at about 40 people, I don't foresee any getting in that are not already on the wait list. Hopefully we can accommodate Those on the list, but some may not get in.
Unless we can figure out how to accept more people, I believe next year may fill before January starts.
Thank you to those who used the online registration, that made our registration efforts so much easier.
A special thanks goes out to Terry Miller with Life Time Disc Sports for hosting the online registration. That was an all but unpaid job for Terry after credit card fees paid to paypal.

Since when can they give your spot away for not being current before the event? Last year they had a paid PDGA official taking renewals. I understand them not wanting to do that again, but what other reasons did they raise renewal fees?
Do they even have a right to do that? I think it is complete BS. I dont like it when rules are made up on the fly.
As a TD, how could you have the heart to do that? The people that pre-registered made your life easier. Now you are just going to kick them out of the tourney for basically nothing. Does not seem right at to me.
Sorry that turned into a rant...I dont usually like to do that. :D

I imagine many of these players have submitted their renewals to the PDGA and that the renewals have not been fully processed yet.
The rules say you have to be a member to play an NT event. They don't say you have to be current four weeks before the event to play.

I coundn't agree more with Cary. I have until March 1st to become current.
If I'm taken of the list because I'm not current 4 weeks before the event, I hope your prepared to refund me for all expenses I have already paid for.

I have a problem with this too. Is each individual on the list going to be contacted and told to renew? Not all PDGA members are DISCussion board junkies.
Also they may have just got done with holiday shopping, put the Memorial on a credit card and need to wait a few weeks to add this year's higher PDGA membership fee.
I support the PDGA and happily paid the higher dues this year...it's worth it to me. I love the Memorial and am so glad to be going again to such a wonderful and well-run tournement. But making players be current four weeks before the event is no where in PDGA rules. Some members can't renew online and there it would be hard for a membership to be processed by mail in that time. It concerns me if people really do get dropped even though they ponied up the higher fee (entry fee vs. PDGA fee) early because the Memorial was a priority. It seems too easy to arbitrarily drop some players and not others in this process. At the very least, the date to be current by should be moved back to 1-2 weeks before the event and all non-members should be contacted via email or phone if they are really going to do this.

This is a good problem to have...It's AWESOME that the Memorial is such a great event that we have this problem of filling nearly 2 months prior to the event. The sport is growing yay!!!
Yes it would suck if they have to release some people due to not being current but if you know your going, you know you have to be current....GIT'ER DONE!!!!!

Here's the full story.
Danny asked me to send out an e-mail to every single player that isn't current asking them to get renewed. He wanted to stress the urgency so that we could people renewed so the event could run that much smoother.
We then discussed the timing and I mentioned how the PDGA typically does a batch process for the renewals. For instance, if you mail in on day X, you might not get fully processed until X+6 because you just missed that week's batch. The deadline was set on that specific day for that reason.
An e-mail WILL be going to every single person that is not current (provided they have one). The intent is not to 'screw' someone out of their spot in the event but to ensure they are current PDGA members. As it's been stated, you MUST be a current PDGA member to participate in NTs or A-Tiers.
I think this is also to help avoid potential mix ups later. Let's say person Mr. T mails in his renewal to the PDGA on Feb 26th. It gets there 3 or 4 days later but MISSES the batch process for that entire week. Now Mr T shows up at the event and proclaims, "I'm renewed, I sent it in over a week ago!" Then the event says..."Well, it doesn't show you're current here so you either can renew right now or you can not participate."
Does that sound all too familiar? It should because every weekend of the year TDs are put in that awkward predicament. Really, it call be avoided by just renewing long before the event rolls around.
Anyway - I'm not trying to cause drama amongst anyone - Danny really just wants people to be renewed so it's one less thing for him and his staff to worry about.

I posted the below and then saw Terry's post. Sounds like you're all doing everything you can to do it right. Keep up the good work and hopefully this will help get renewals in earlier in future years.
Obviously you need to be current to play an A-Tier or NT. It's just that the "rule" of being current a month early were not explained well in advance. That's my problem (even though I'm current and excited to go myself).
I do agree that it's cool it's filled so early and this is even a topic of discussion...but let's be fair to those who got signed up first. If the proverbial "they" want to change or add a rule, do it in advance...maybe before next year starts.
Also...if you're not current, get off your duff and get you membership fees in so you get to play...it'd suck to lose out on playing the Memorial on a technicality, even if you think it's unfair.

gotta give em til the 15th at least. It's not their fault that it takes a while to register online. Unless it were completely automated, as in, you pay, you are immediately current, it seems you have to give these people some time.
Those who waited too long do not get the privilege of security that those who are registered early get. Lots of tournaments are opening their registration in January, and it's getting ridiculous that you have to register for a bunch of A Tiers in January. Who has a surplus of cash in January? I don't.
As a result I can't go to the Virginia Open. Too bad. I would have gladly paid for it if it weren't 5 months away. I also need to register for Marshall Street by the end of Feb.
Craziness I tell you.

You just listed zero (0) exclusive benefits that pros receive by paying a higher renewal fee.
The idea for improvement is to lower the renewal (and 1st-timer reg) fee. More people will be more likely to buy a cheaper membership. More members will better attract a national sponsor.
Another idea for improvement is to offer those who pay a higher renewal fee something in return for paying that higher renewal fee.

National Sponsor? For all you guys concerned about the over priced renewal fee... I hear the Tampax Open is coming soon.
Why do we need a "national" sponsor. I think Disc Golf is big enough. There are tournaments every weekend. What do you want? More Payout? ... It would be nice to get 10 DX cheetahs instead of 2.

Barley is putting every extra hour he has into creating those for us( probably to the detriment of his golf game). I had my priorities straight for this tournament. 1st paycheck, entry fee, so I KNOW I have a spot. 2nd paycheck, Airline tickets, so I know I can get there. Feb 15th paycheck PDGA renewal, because out of the 3 this third option is going to be there whenever I have the money for it before the tournament. Instead I got a post on my home town disc club website from MADMAX that we needed to get this done, so I got on and did it today (after borrowing 50 dollars from my mom, 30 years old and borrowing from mom how embarassing). I never received an e-mail that said anything about it. If I would have then it would have been a different story. Please let me know if I am in jeopardy of losing my spot.
Thanks
Scott Hoffman 27731 (I hope)

You will be fine scott, we are sending out email letters to those whom we have addresses for, we will contact the others any way we can.
The pdga office is working hard to process your memberships.
You wont be dropped without at least a notification.

Not trying to start trouble here, but the PDGA sanctioing agreement requires the TD to accept PDGA memberships and hand out soft-cards. How can people be dropped from pre-reg with this requirement in place?

Devils advocate: If an event is only pre-reg and sells out to players who will be current before the event, the TD would not be expected to renew them at the event. Now, certainly TDs should be open to signing up new or renewing members who happen to be at the event but not entered. That doesn't mean players should be dropped from pre-reg if not renewed yet, just that they take care of it before the event.

A closer, cheaper Motel 6 (http://www.motel6.com/reservations/motel_detail.asp?MotelId=1315&NOA=&aYr=&aMo=&aDa=&dYr=&dMo=&dDa=&BTR=M6ProximityResults.aspx?searchtype=AD&CP=&TA=&redi=)
I just booked a room for $60 Thursday, $65 Sat/Sun. This place is just a few blocks from Vista Del Camino.
Motel 6 has become a staple crash pad for the annual Tour de Rizbee. It ain't fancy, but it fits the need.

I find that the extremely noisy air conditioners at Motel6 are a blesing because they block out the road-noise that the paper-thin walls let through.

I don't believe one is POSTED anywhere. I am pretty sure that there will be an additional pre-registration update coming pretty soon. I'm waiting on Dan to get it to me and it will get posted immediately after I receive it. Give it another day or two.
Let's put it this way ... too many people shouldn't get your their hopes up. I know the fields aren't expanding by 50 people or anything crazy like that. It will probably be only a handful more.

My turn for "Devils Advocate"
If a player calls him/herself a PRO....and this is "How they make a living" as Ive been told.....
WHY wouldn't renewing PDGA membership be the FIRST thing done each year??
You dont wait for your DL to expire to renew that.....
Should we also wait to run out of TP before we decide to buy some more :o
IF I were a TOP PRO then maybe it would be more of a priority.....to me.. :)
But then I signed up for 5 years...... :p
:D
IMO - If you have to be a member to play..THEN you should be a member to be allowed to sign up....OR be given the opportunity to sign up when registering...(Pain for the TD, I understand that)
:D

If that's the first event a pro is playing "to make a living," renewing before the event is all that's necessary versus the beginning of the year. Correct, Mr. Devil? :p
crusher
Jan 30 2007, 03:23 PM
As long as you renew prior to the event, that's all that matters. It's when someone does not renew and causes a headache for the TD that is the problem. Whether you make a living playing events or it is just a hobby does not matter!

Ah..BUT if the requirement was that you needed to be a member to REGISTER...none of this would be an issue....
It also helps to be a TOP PLAYER then you can just be "forgiven" and get in anyway...right!
Ill NEVER name names....(anyone could easily research it themselves).........BUT somebody got the SHAFT from more than 1 of these players, Ill bet

Hi everyone,
Getting some great feedback on the SuperColor Buzzz-SS (http://www.sportdiscs.com/catalog/item/1688761/4138391.htm) Memorial fundraisers! This version of the Buzzz is a straight to turnover mid in the ESP plastic. Not sure how many we'll have left at the event so I'd grab them now if I were you.

Friends,
We have been trying diligently to gain more housing for the players coming to Scottsdale for The Memorial. I never realized how much "high-end" lodging there is there, but these are the venues that are contacting me (via the Convention & Visitors Bureau) interested in our business.
So here's a question...
Would any group of dg'ers be interested in staying at some top-shelf resorts for the event? I've been given some proposals for blocks of rooms, and the rates are approx. $250 per night.
Here are the places http://www.resortsuites.com/ or
http://www.copperwynd.com
I understand that is very steep for our crowd, but thought I'd ping the audience anyway to see if we might be able to get a couple travel groups together to fill at least 6 rooms.
Please respond here to inform, or, as always, you could e-mail me at
[email protected] or call directly 215.913.0569.
Thanks, and we'll see you in the desert.
John D.

Red Roof Inn Airport. Tempe.
$84.99. External entrances means not having a bazillion people traipse through the lobby to your "2 person" room.

I hope there be portable restroom facilities at both courses this year.
Last year there was only one restroom available at Fountain Hills and it was between Hole 18 and Hole 1 so there was absolutely no place to go during the three + hour round.
It would be nice if there were some portables at the Vista course as well. There is really only one restroom on the course, two if you count running into Dukes. I think there is one near hole four, but it is too far away to use during the round.

"Due to contractual obligations with the PDGA, the AZDGC must hold
50 player slots open for qualifying National Tour Pro's for up to two weeks before the start of this event." This is what the entry form says.
I don't see 50 National tour pros on the registration list, yet it's full.???
I know National tour events are only required to save 24 spots but it does say 50 on the entry form.
