Most Masters played in 15-25 wind on Sunday BUT Open played with practically NIL
and saturday was the exact opposite, Masters played in nicer, calmer conditions @ Fountain and Open played in constant 30MPH winds....
Hence the 1075(50)rated round by Oates and the open hot score was 52, in much windier conditions

Gentry is looking into doing ratings by groups of divisions by testing what the SSA would be for each division by itself and combining those that are close. Since he was there and did the groupings, he's in the best position to help. We'll see what he finds and proceed. If we can separate the field into groups having similar weather conditions for ratings, we'll do it.

Sure the LEAD cards played in "little wind".....More tha 3/4 of the Masters played in similar conditions as the Open.
The wind DID finally "calm down" with 4 or 5 holes to go in my group....
Its the first 5 that KILLED me :p
BUT that goes back to my point as to WHY cant each division (in an event this large) be calculated seperate. It would bring the rating more in line with the conditions that each faced.....
Its not fair for Open ratings from the Fountain to be "grouped" with the Masters....
The conditions OVERALL were VASTLY different.. :p

The good news is that everyone will get the same rating for the same score in a round.
How is that GOOD news???
A 58 at the Fountain Sat Morn is equal to about a 52 in the afternoon with the way the weather changed....
Same with Vista on Sunday..........but switched....
The event itself was AWESOME...as always...I just wish I could keep my disc between the lines... :(
Thank you.... thank you mike....

Maybe this game will grow and be mainstream when the RATING system is accuate... (and bigger sposors, but who wants to sponsor a game that has flaws, lol) but who would want that... like, come to california and see how your rating fairs... look at my rounds out of state compared to cali... 2 rounds right now below my rating (out of state) out of how many?... HAHAHAHAHAHHAH TELL ME THERE IS NO FLAW PLEASE, I WILL LAUGH IN YOUR FACE. same with andrew rich and local oregon golfers.

Wind was everywhere. It was also swirly meaning it was hard to get a read on it sometimes. One hole would be windy and then it would be gone for a hole and so on.

He's already LOST a bunch of money on side bets this year........ /msgboard/images/graemlins/ooo.gif
He doesnt want to start off '07 in the HOLE
I havent been on in a while!!! How about 5 5 5 and 5................5 For each seperate round and 5 for total???
I was thinking something more creative. How about something like this:
We count total score only, whoever loses has to give the other one the disc they used as their primary putter and they have to write, "I got beat at the 2007 Memorial by ____." And then sign it and hand it over!
Shouldn't be a big loss for you if I win 'cause your sponsored by Dcraft and whatnot! What do you think?
Ill have to think about that!!! I just got my putter nice and beat in the way I like it........Id be willing to bet like ten total and the loser has to buy a 2007 Memorial Supercolor disc and write the same thing on it???

Question Chuck or anyone.
I played the Memorial and I missed my tee time but I took 7's on every hole, I did play the last two rounds now shouldnt I get points for everyone that quit and shouldnt my first round be 126 and not 999 since I played the rest of the tournament.

Mar 23 2007, 08:56 PM
Players have to play at least the last hole of the first round or they have DNF'd for the event. There's no such thing anymore as a round with eighteen par+4s. It's a 999 at that point. No other rounds are counted for ratings even if played after a first round DNF. You'll have to ask Dave at the PDGA office to overturn that policy for you.

Dave's preliminary check by isolating division ratings calcs hasn't shown as much of a difference as some might think. It looks like the Masters might have had a different wind factor one or two days by one throw SSA. So, some division ratings will be calculated separately when we process them starting in a week. We are also looking at checking the Gentleman's Club ratings by division also.

at the memorial the earlier starting(suckiest :D) masters definately had wind for the entire rounds whereas the better(non-sucking)masters only dealt with it for 1/3 of the round to no wind on sunday....
at the vegas event the wind was CONSISTENT throughout the day for the PRO divisions with almost no wind ever for the am divisions every morning...
vegas ratings for sure need to be adjusted...
the opinion from someone who spent the entire 6 days in vegas and memorial at the courses pretty much from earlier tee times to near the end of the day...

Here's a course that was affected by sustained 45 mph winds. Can you tell which year? :)
For the record this course was made 2-3 shots easier after Hurricane Rita redesigned it, so it would probably play right at 8-10 shots easier without the wind. (2004 was played in wet conditions.)

C'mon Bender even was 1000 rated out at PI in the wind and it is easier than Moffitt now with the Rita redesign so in calm conditions -10 to -11 would be 1000 IMO.

That is exactly what I'm saying. Throw out 2006's wind and 2004's rain and the SSA is about 45-46. Lose 2-3 more shots and you're at 43-44. (My 8-10 easier was in comparison to the wind-aided 2006 SSA.)

True , some always play, no matter what the conditions , some DNF or quit during the tournament to preserve their ratings or choose less difficult tournaments to play in.
Some , honor does not exist in this sport.
