FYI ... I received this email from the city yesterday.
We had some tournament play at the disc golf course this past weekend, which did not have park approval.
I am not sure if you can post anything.but it would be good to remind them that all tournaments hosted at our park must be approved with our park's director.
Thanks.

What is the deal with those folks? I'm of the belief that someone within the County group is reasonable and can comprehend that loosening their desire for a cut might actually bring them more money.
For one, a mini is not really a tournament, it is more like an organized get-together. The other thing is that somehow, the county needs to realize that more events at the course brings them more money. Having a mini there every week might bring them an extra grand at the end of the year at a $ per player. Having more tournaments will also bring in more income as well as increase the stature of the course, thereby also increasing play and income. In short, with a slight attitude adjustment, they could be making lots more money. This conflict is a crying shame, since it is the best course around.

Not sure why I've got this thread as a favorite that forwards replies to me via email, but I thought I'd at least say this, as someone who's played Wilco...
Just be careful to manage the relationship with this lady and the Parks dept. I find that I often give some people too much credit for having a business sense when they are actually very close-minded and it doesn't matter what you say to them. Be as nice as you can to them, and when you catch them in a good mood, explain things very rationally and straight-forward, and focus on how it benefits them. Sounds like you're headed in the right direction. I was very lucky to play Wilco...great course. Sux that the city is being so anal though!

when minis happen, the participants pay their $1 to play in the Wilco lock box already......just like the casuals. So is this the $1/person mentioned above, or do they want more if its a mini?

They seem to have different rates for different people...so it might depend on who is asking and who is running the event...For my 2 events there they wanted $1 per person and no one had to pay the box...I wrote them a check and they mailed me a receipt.

TWC..... the county got a $ per day per player and %10 of the entry fee.
And to the point the money paid goes back into the park......they have already gone throught 1000 pay envolpes.
The only thing they have done with the park is added the #ed tee sign to a rock....(they paid $100 each)they got raped with that price.
R&R paid for the concrete for the baskets.PuTT the baskets together and installed. And my tax dollar paid for the installtion of the course so I am trying to see where it is going back into the park. Heck my tax dollar is paying for the mowing.
Lets just say 1000 envolpes at $3.......hmmmm
Did I miss wear our governer said county parks can make a profit.....or is that rolled up with charging a toll for roads we already paid for

We basically have to treat this place like it's a private course. I really don't care if you can shoot baskets for free or kick a ball at no cost because that's not why I go to this park. To play at this course we have to play by their rules fair or not. I don't see the point in bringing up arguments about how discgolfer's are treated differently from soccer players etc. Everything will work itself out in time, remember these people are still learning the difference between a mini and a tournament. There probably are insurance reasons why the Park Department must approve tournaments as apposed to lets screw the discgolfers reasons. Mitch probably knows more about the Red Tape involved but I would warn against responding harshly to Benita's e-mail. This Sunday is the 1st Sunday of the month. Lago still seems unplayable/not mowed. I have spoken with the Williamson County Parks Department & we're set to run our 1st & 3rd Sundays @ Wilco - $1 per player to cash box (like always). This Sunday there's a large Labor Day soccer tournament & we've been asked not to park in our regular spots by the fields, but across the street. This seems like a simple enough request. Let's please do as we're asked as our relationship is finally developing in a positive manner. Thanx to all that come & enjoy the great course - we'll play Old Settlers if there's a rain out. Check here or call 943-3366 for rain out info.

Having heard about, but never seeing, the "bee tree" on hole #18, it is very impressive.
Played Thursday and I guess the group in front of me must have banged the tree, because when I came thru, I had No trouble locating the BEES.
From the tee, ahead about 250ft, two tree in the middle of the fairway form a "goal post" that I try to drive thru.
The goal/tree on the right, about 10ft high, has a branch cut off, on the right side, close to flush with the tree, 1ft + in diameter, the bees swarm out from a hole in the center.
Certainly added some drama to the end of my round, as I was hollaring for my momma, while I ran away.
On a brighter note, the course is mowed and looks great, not at all like my round a Circle C.

Take a bottle of talcum powder with you the next time you are out there and dump the powder down the hole where the bees are.
Bees breathe through bodies and their bodies are naturally moist. The powder clings to the body of the bee and acts like a suffication device. The real pest control powder has some other ingrediants in it, but talcum powder works on the same principal. It just might take a couple of applications to get rid of all of the bees.
Talcum powder does not require a license to use and so the parks department should have no problem with eradicating bees in this manner.
I do not know if Anti-Monkey Butt powder would work in this situation, but if it did, that would be 'killing two bees' with one stone. :D

the following is from the city and would like for us to keep an eye out for this camera. They have not found it. so if you have found a camera out there please see information below.
Hi my name is Dustin Graham, I was out there on Sunday evening April 14, 2008, and I lost my digital camera on the Disc Golf course. my phone (817-915-8723)
my email is (
[email protected])
It is a Casio Exilim the color is a purplish Blue color, It has some photos on it that mean a lot to me, It was getting dark and by the time I got to our vehicle it was missing out of my golf bag, I was with 5 other friends and they are all trustworthy, we all paid the entry fee and enjoyed the course, My friend Curtis lost his pink Mr. Jim's disc out there, and my other friend lost his tie dye eagle disc out there..
Please just keep in mind that there might be a camera out there.. I would be very grateful just to get the memory card from the camera, so any and all information you could send my way would be greatly appreciated, My Friends own a disc golf store, plus we have installed two disc golf courses in our local area in FT WORTH.
this is our website- www.inchesofmercury.com (http://www.inchesofmercury.com)
Thank you for your time,
I could work out a small reward (disc golf gear etc.)
for anyone who might find my camera.
