I began playing Frisbee back in 1983 when I was just 15 years old. Since then I have traveled to over 40 countries, competed in 7 countries on 3 continents, won many Australian titles and even a World title. I have lived all over the world and experienced many incredible things along the way.

I have lived in Texas for the last 8 years and had a great time, living and working disc golf. 6 years ago I started the Texas 10 Charity Tour and nothing has been the same since. My involvement with the Lance Armstrong Foundation has been a strong motivating force in doing what I do. I am very proud of what we as Disc Golfers have accomplished in terms of support and donations for the Foundation.

This week I was honored by the Lance Armstrong Foundation and was asked to become a LiveStrong Mentor for the 2006 fundraising season. I will begin training in a few weeks to work for the LAF to assist, motivate and inspire other people in their fundraising efforts. This is an unpaid volunteer position but one I am very honored to be asked to do.

That is the good news. Now, my other news.

After 8 years in the USA, the US government has decided that I need to head back to Australia. As of mid October this year I will return home. Both my visa and passport expire early in 2007. I very much doubt I will be returning to the USA anytime soon. After much thinking and soul searching I plan on leaving here in mid October and stopping off in Japan to visit some friends and check out the work market. I will then head home to catch up with family and friends. After a Summer of getting back into the swing of Australian life I will decide what to do.

Disc Golf in Australia has slowly grown in the last few years with a few new courses. Maybe if I am lucky I can make some real money and apply what I have learnt here to help Disc Golf in Australia. Maybe even host a major international event in a few years. It would be awesome to see all my US friends on my home soil.

Before I leave in October I plan on making the 2006 Texas 10 Charity Tour the very best yet. I hope to give away at least $30,000 at the finals Hole-in-One, along with many other cool things. I hope that you will help me make 2006 the best year yet and let me go out in style. In the coming weeks I have meetings with a couple of large companies that may help make this year the big one. I will persist in seeking the support these large corporations until Disc Golf gets the attention it deserves.

Before the year is over I will be selling the Disc Golf Thunder, all my merchandise, naming rights to my events and my online websites. If anyone is interested in these please let me know.

Please note that I plan on making 2006 a great year and making it a year to remember. I honestly dont know where I will be this time next year but I can guarantee I will be still involved in Disc Golf.

I certainly wish you the best Chris, but man I'm really sad to read that you're moving away. Wish I could afford to buy it from you Chris...our discussion at MacGregor was very encouraging!

From what I have heard from several people, including myself, it is because of Chirs and his user friendly tournaments that gets average players to step up and start playing tournaments on a regular basis. It has been and still is a learning experience for me. Chris you may not know how many people you have touched and or helped. Your love for the game and help to LAF will live strong in the Texas area for a loooong time. Is Live Oak going to be a big enough course to hold the final tournament of the farewell tour? You might want to register early for that one. You will be missed but never forgotten.

sad news indeed for the state of texas and disc golf. like many others i played my first competitive event at a himing event. tx 10 in lubbuck nearly 4 years ago. since then, these and a few other events a year are the only tourneys i play. thank you chris for all you do and have done for disc golf in the state of texas and for the lance armstrrong foundation. youve heard this before but here it is again. we will miss you and your great events. if not for your desire to make disc golf a major sport, we still would only have the ice bowls and worlds biggeys to play in. great luck in all you do and hope to see you soon at tyler.

Now that you'll have a home base so close to the awesome Live Oak courses maybe you will actually have a chance to get out & play a bit. (I think you should play your own finals this year)

sorry to hear you are leaving the country ...but glad to see and hear about the great things you are/have done so far this year.....

three things to ask...
1) do you still have the tsigns from waterloo that lou/gordon gave to you and the tsigns/sponsorhip/players package form the t-10 finals i didn't get to attend as i was moving eastward across the country?

2)if i end up buying the stuff you are selling would you be mad if i gave it back to texas like the banner i bought a few years ago

3)when you get your list together would you pm me along with your other insiders ;) so i can make you an offer?
seriously...you know i'm good for it!

p.s. why isn't my tournament listed on your list :(

Hi Keith,

Firstly let me apologise for not telling you personally that I was leaving. It all came up fairly quickly as I was right in the middle of my Tour de Disc Golf.

You know I will take care of you with what ever I have. Consider some stuff coming your way as sponsorship. I will also look to see where the signs are. I still have most of my stuff in storage that I haven't moved yet.

What I do hope for with my trailer, names, dates and stock is that it goes to someone that will do good with it. Believe it or not I have had people offer that know nothing about the sport and think they can make a quick million. We have all seen this before I am sure. They also have no clue to just how much stock I actually carry. As for you Keith I trust you completely and to do the right thing if that was the case.

Again thanks for the support and I will be in touch. I think you should book that plane ticket now for the FINAL in September, it will be a fun one.

Ciao,

I crashed and totaled my truck in one of the recent rain storms we have been having in the DFW area along with the "play disc golf fight cancer" sticker on the back. I need to dress out the new ride. Will these be in the THUNDER when it arrives in Tyler? I need to stock up.Are you going to continue to support Live Strong from the other side of the world? Hope your doing okay Chris. Consider a brand new "Play Disc Golf - Fight Cancer" sticker on your new truck when you get to Tyler.

The Thunder will be there along with all the latest cool discs.

I am enjoying myself doing the work for the LIVESTRONG Challenge. Just yesterday I was upgraded to a Fundraising Specialist and am looking forward to the meeting this Friday where we get our first list of people to mentor.

Once I go back home I am sure I will continue my work and fundraising for the foundation. I already have a few ideas in my little black book.

I have had at least 6 people talk to me interested in purchasing the Thunder and the rights to everything I do here. I am sure a couple of those were just fishing for info and prices but thats okay. I will do my best to make sure it all goes to right person.

Don't forget to mark the Tyler date on your fridge. I will have more info soon.

That HIO design that was on the Glow Orcs last year was pretty sweet, in fact earlier today that disc chained out for an almost-ace on a very tough hole at Veteran's Park (#7). Not a tough hole, but a tough hole to ace!

Just confirmed that the $30,000 Hole-in-One will happen again at this years final in Live Oak. Same hole, same requirements etc. We just need a sponsor now. Any takers?

To keep people informed of what I was trying...I was extremely close to securing a Hole-in-One attempt for 4 people after the event for a huge $250,000. The insurance company got scared (we are due I think) and jacked my price up at the last minute to a point it was just not worth it. Maybe sometime down the road we will have the $250,000 HIO at a Texas 10. :D

We do have two courses, side by side, so we should be able to handle around 144. Or if forced to, we could go to 180 with 5 per card.

Plenty of spots left for Tyler but don't let that stop you from getting in early. Thanks for the entry.

I would love to hear feedback from people about the new "Trophy Only" divisions for the Texas 10 Finals in Live Oak. Go to www.titledisc.com (http://www.titledisc.com) to see the info.

All Ams that signup for Trophy Only will see recieve a players pack, be in the ace pot, and get PDGA points. The only thing you don't get is a payout if you cash. The question I am sure people will ask is about the tour bonus. Yes these people will be awarded a tour bonus if they do well. That is only fair I think.

All Pro's paying for Trophy Only will recieve PDGA points, ace pot entry and with what is left that money will go to the Pro Payout in that division.

You still need to be a Texas 10 Member to be in on the $30,000 Ace.

Thanks
Chris

The Trophy only option is GREAT. I am just below ADV. rating, and might make last cash if I have an exceptional day. Now, I can play the same event at half the cost...and, if I 'cash', even better. My focus in DG now is just to get better, so I want to play with better players. Now I can without dropping down so much cash with virtually no chance to get anything back. I will even play the Pro event on Sun. with the TO option. :D

I hope this sets a precident for TX events. Thanks Chris

Gday Everyone,

The 2006 season is well under way and what a great start it has been. The 1st event of the Texas 10 Farewell Tour was held in Waco on March 4th in perfect weather. The 2nd event in Tyler is just a few weeks away so start making plans.

Here is an update on things to know:

Tyler Texas 10 Saturday, May 27th
 Austin Texas 10 Date Change
 Trophy Only Finals Options
 Latitude 64 Swedish Discs
 $30,000 Hole-in-One
 Event Calendar

Tyler Texas 10 Saturday, May 27th:
Only 90 minutes east of Dallas this town hosts 2 great courses in the same park. The courses offer everything from short, long, elevation change to some very nice wooded holes, and of course that great east Texas hospitality. Plans are under way to provide food at the course along with a very close cheap hotel deal. For many of you DFW players you can even drive in that morning. The signup deadline has been moved back to 9am with a 9:30am players meeting so you have more time to travel that morning. To make life simple for everyone please enter early at www.titledisc.com (http://www.titledisc.com)

Austin Texas 10 Date Change:
The much anticipated Austin Texas 10 has changed dates to August 19. This is now the week after Pro Worlds. It had been scheduled the week before Pro Worlds. I have accepted my invitation to represent Australia in Augusta and will be back in time for the Austin event. For those wondering which course it will be played it is the yet to be completed Manor course. Lots more details later.

Trophy Only Finals Options
Are you tired of playing high entry fees just to go out and have a fun event with your friends? Well now you have all the options you need. Check out the details at www.titledisc.com (http://www.titledisc.com) for the Finals Events in Live Oak. All divisions both Am and Pro now have trophy only options. The Am entry fees for trophy only are around 50% off the normal price yet still include a players pack, PDGA fees, ace pot and a guaranteed good time. For everyone that is tired of paying over $100 to play Open Pro you can now enter the Trophy Only Open Pro option for just $40. Of course this still covers your ace pot, PDGA fees and the chance to play with some of the worlds best players. So now all Ams can afford to play Ams on Saturday and then play with the big boys in Pro on Sunday.

Latitude 64 Swedish Discs
The latest new quality discs have arrived in the US from Sweden. Made by long time Swedish champion players this range of currently 4 discs are the real deal. Super durable plastic, great grip and great distance in the drivers. I have been testing the discs for the last couple of weeks and they fly great. See me on a course or at the next Texas 10 to get yours. This first lot are specially stamped first run editions.

$30,000 Hole-in-One
The $30,000 Hole-in-One is back with the same details as last year. I had been trying to get the insurance company to increase the amount but they got scared. The odds are now in our favor for some lucky person to make history and walk away with the largest prize ever in disc golf. Will it be you? Only the first 250 people as Texas 10 Members will have the chance to do it. When you enter a Texas 10 event on Titledisc dont forget to become a member. I am also looking for a sponsor for this promotion so if you know of a person or company that wants some great exposure please let me know.

Upcoming Events
May 6-7: Live Oak Summer Open
May 27: Texas 10 Tyler
June 10-11: Waco Charity Open
June 24: Texas 10 Wimberley

See everyone on the course soon.

Yours in Flight,
Chris Himing

The Trophy only option is GREAT. I am just below ADV. rating, and might make last cash if I have an exceptional day. Now, I can play the same event at half the cost...and, if I 'cash', even better. My focus in DG now is just to get better, so I want to play with better players. Now I can without dropping down so much cash with virtually no chance to get anything back. I will even play the Pro event on Sun. with the TO option. :D

I hope this sets a precident for TX events. Thanks Chris

Thanks Jerry. I think this is the perfect balance and gives players of all levels the option. If you want to put up the cash and play for the big rewards you can or if you want a cheaper entry to have a fun event you have that option.

I have a feeling the Pro day on Sunday could be huge. There is now no reason why many Am's of all levels won't play on Sunday as well.

Thanks for the feedback.

Ok Chris, I have signed up for all the events that I should be able to play.

Two questions.

1st, was I exempt from having to play 4 events to qualify for the bonus cash at the finals.

2nd, If I am unable to play one of the events, will my entry fee be donated to my division or will it be donated to LAF. And if question number 1 answer is no, does paying for the 4 events qualify me.

I am worried about making the Cedar Hill event. I may be doing something else that weekend.

The June date is also going to be a problem, but I may be able to work that one out.

Lewisville and Austin should not be a problem.

gnduke

Everyone is exempt from playing 4 events to qualify for the bonus. According to the web site, You only need 3 of the Texas 7 events to qualify.

ozdisc
Apr 28 2006, 10:29 AM
Thanks for the entries Bryan. If you have paid for event in advance and let me know early I can refund it. If you let me know the day before the entry will go to the LAF. If you don't let me know it will likely go into payout.

Gary is correct. Because there is only 7 events this year (not next year ;)) you only have to play in 3 of the first 6 to be in the bonus money at the final.

Regardless of the bonus or not the final will be event to be at. Things are coming together well and with the new trophy only option except to see all sorts of new players in different divisions. Sunday I think could be huge.

Who wants $30,000?

Looking forward to spending a weekend in Tyler in a few weeks.

Thanks
Chris

May 22 2006, 09:16 AM
Danny you should know the deal. I expect the normal crowd, the same pro's and lots of fun. Because it is a holiday weekend I expect 80-90 players of which 12-15 should be Pro. Get you and your buddies to signup then there will be more than that. Is JD, Giggler and those guys playing?

The players meeting is at 9:30am but don't think you will be able to enter then. Last signup is at 9am sharp. It is already later than normal so no excuses.

Both courses are right next to each other and the Thunder will be parked between the both in the main parking lot. If you can't find us then you have a problem. :D

Go to www.titledisc.com (http://www.titledisc.com) now to enter and make it easy for everyone.

Doubles will be held, here are the details:
Pick your own partner
Flex start between 3-6pm
$10 per player
Am's merch payout, Cash Pro's
Which course? Not sure yet.

Back later, I am working on re-stoking the Thunder ready for the trip.

Sadly I must admit that I am the player that will not be there. I made two commitments for that weekend without realizing they were at the same time. One of the commitments caused my mother-in-law to cancel a trip so that we can stay with her in Norman. Since the ire of a mother-in-law is much greater than the satire of my fellow disc golfers I have choosen to put up with you guys/gals crap instead of hers :p.

When you get to the course, please track down Jeremy Lockwood, David jones, Lawarence Nance, Mikey, Kyle, etc. and other Rose City Disc Club members and thank them for the work they have done on the course. They have spent quite a bit of time cleaning the course up, adding benches, etc the last couple of weeks.

I expect Titledisc to close taking entries on Thursday night so enter today if you can. I will say it for the 1003rd time...just because you can not enter online does not mean the event is full. Get out of bed early and get to the park early and all will be good. Just do it!

Hey Chris, what course will be played Friday for doubles? i would like to play the other course before that.

ozdisc
May 25 2006, 10:47 AM
Not sure of the name. One is called Red and the other Blue. The doubles course will be the one on the hill. From memory the first tee is up near the main road. The Thunder and HQ will be in the bottom parking lot near the 1st tee of the shorter course (plenty of room) Friday and Saturday. The Hill is the tougher course and longer.

I am leaving San Antonio around lunch today to play some Ball Golf in Waco then leaving there Friday morning. If I am not on the message board much for the next 2 days please be patient I will see it sooner or later.

The Thunder has all the latest stock as normal including the new Latitude 64 discs from Sweden. I also just got a new "Golf" dice game that is very cool, easy to learn and addictive.

Thanks

May 29 2006, 12:12 PM
Thanks for a great event everyone. It was a very easy and fun day in Tyler. The turnout was only small which I am sure the holiday weekend didn't help but we all had a fun day.

Thanks again to everyone in the RCDC that helped out. The courses looked great and everything was smooth.

I would have loved to stay in town for a couple of days to relax but needed to beat the traffic. The wind was terrible all the way back to SA so it was a long day.

No aces in Tyler so that means the I think $338 ace pot will carry over to Wimberley.

On the scores please be aware that the Int (MA2) and Rec (MA3) played short tees on both courses.

It was interesting to see the reaction of the Am's to the amount of the payout. Several people asked me to check the numbers asking if they were too high. The funny thing was that they are correct and normal. Everyone even got to pick their own payout.

Thanks to everyone again and I look forward to the next event and of the course the FINAL.

Here are the breakdown of the entries and the results.

MPO - $45 entry (taken out $2 ace pot, $4 tour bonus, $4 charity) $35 towards payout
MPG - $45 entry (taken out $2 ace pot, $4 tour bonus, $4 charity) $35 towards payout
MA1 - $35 entry (taken out $2 ace pot, $4 tour bonus, $4 charity) $25 towards payout
MM1 - $35 entry (taken out $2 ace pot, $4 tour bonus, $4 charity) $25 towards payout
MA2 - $35 entry (taken out $2 ace pot, $4 tour bonus, $4 charity) $25 towards payout
MA3 - $25 entry (taken out $2 ace pot, $4 tour bonus, $4 charity) $15 towards payout

While watching the Apprentice last night I saw a commercial for Pontiac where they are donating up to $500,000 to different charities all over the country. We get to choose the charities that get the money.

Click on http://apprentice.securepromotion.com/main.asp?n=1 and vote to donate to the Lance Armstrong Foundation. Choose "select charity" then click on "L" and then the LAF. It is that easy.

Remember this is Pontiac's money not yours so tell all your friends about it and lets have Pontiac donate a lot of money to the LAF.

Thanks

I am still getting the details from Circle R but give them a call and confirm. The number is 877-833-1227.

As far as I know there is a $5 per day greens fee (included in entry) and camping is free.

More details on Wimberley soon.

If you are a Circle R member and get free greens fee please let me know at the event and I will refund your $5 if paid online. If you are paying me in person I will not charge you the $5. Easy :)

Chris,

Being diabetic I have very interested in their energy drink and the amount of sugar that may be in it. I checked out the web site and I have to say that their energy water looks much better to me than gatoraide. If you get the chance to talk to them tell them that their involvement has already increased their customer base.

Actually Jake it is the "Out of Jail" hole.

There is also a great pic of Tony Bender putting with the sun reflecting off his disc on Alkatraz.

Other photo's include the amazing Horseshoe Canyon in Arkansas and some Americana I came across on the road.

The night mini at Hitchcock was a blast...do it Jake :D

The surfers made a day of it yesterday in the Gulf. Thank you Alberto! I heard Freeport got up to head high. We had a day of waist to chest high pealers. Yes, surfers are use to getting up early. The bus will leave at 5:30am. Better be some a good swell. ;)

OK Chris-Because this is YOUR farewell tour, I think it would be only fitting that you change things up a bit. For example, oh, I don't know, maybe, perhaps, a starting tee box less than 2 miles from HQ? At least in the same county!
See you there. :mad::D

This Saturday in Wimberley will be the first event we do that Vitamin Water will be at. I hope to make a good impression to them. What I ask of everyone is to please at least try the product (it is free) and give positive feedback.

The other thing I would ask is please be respectful to the brand and not drink RedBull, Monster etc around them. Vitamin Water is not a pump up enery drink like them but is going for a similar market.

Vitamin Water have committed to supplying all our hydration needs for the rest of the year. Even though no cash is involved all that free Vitamin Water and support is a great deal.

Thanks Vitamin Water.

I must apologise to everyone again that the 2006 Texas 10 Member ID Cards will not be ready by this weekend as promised.

I have been dealing with a company for 6 weeks now and all along they have promised me delivery today. Now I find out they can't even print the artwork.

I will do my best to arrange a replacement deal on the ID cards asap. At least once I get a refund from this company.

Please also know I will be taking legal action against the idiot staff member and thier company for complete incompetancy and lies. They messed with the wrong person. The guy I have been dealing with will be unemployed within the week.

Again sorry for the delay. I will post the cards to current members when I do get them.

Chris

Copy of last email from the soon to be unemployed idiot...

Chris.

This project has been our most challenging.

I have just been informed by the production department and its senior managers that we cannot complete your job within the time frame specified.

There are issues concerning the placement of the artwork on the proof which has left a considerable amount of white space to the left and right (please see attached proof).

As you can clearly see, the product is unacceptable. We have made several attempts, in the past few days, in trying to stretch, widen and even tried to un-layer the artwork in hopes of repositioning the artwork so as to provide you with a viable proof.

As a secondary protocol, we had secured a digital printer at our expense in hopes of completing your job. Those plans have fallen through.

At this juncture, we will not be able to meet your deadline.

We had hoped, from our previous experience, to make up for what had occurred last time. Please accept our deepest apologies.

Thanks to everyone for yet another great Texas 10 event. This one was again lots of fun. The terrible weather (except at the course ;)) really hurt the turnout but those players that did trust me had a great day of Texas 10 Disc Golf.

All morning all I heard was how much it was raining all over South Texas. On my drive in to the ranch at 6am it rained on me a little. I made the weather bubble call to arrive in a few hours. Then again at 8:30am it rained. The players meeting started right on time at 9am as the skies cleared. A little misting would follow for the next hour or so but then everything became all clear. By lunch the clouds were a welcome relief from the heat. The second round was done in nice sunshine.

Thanks to all the out of town players from as far away as Oklahoma, Corpus, and Houston.

Thanks to Brian Schmidt who helped me with payout and the guys who hung around to help me pack down everything. You Live Oak guys are a good bunch.

Congrats to Corey Peshcke on his first tournament win and also to Stacey Pereida for playing (and loving) her first event. Well done to 14 year old Paige Peirce for taking the win over the other 4 ladies. Look out girls Paige is on the run. Tara Deleon gave Paige a great run in the last round to come up just one shot short. The Ladies Final should be a blast. Joe Torres good job of holding off the field for a great win. Brian Schmidt also made a big come back only to miss by one over winner Chili Perez. Jayson Houston... :D

No aces again this weekend so we will carry the $474 over to the next event in Lewisville in 2 weeks. Expect an Ace Pot of around $700 in Lewisville. That should be some fun.

Congrats to Edward Palacious for winning the Innova Traveler Basket in the raffle. Thanks to those that also donated items.

During the presentations it was a real pleasure to look out at all the players and see the fun everyone was having. That is just such a great thing about the Texas 10.

Thanks to the Vitamin Water crew that eventually appeared just in time for lunch after truck and fridge problems. Thanks for the positive feedback and the support of this company. Nothing like having all you can drink Vitamin Water everywhere.

Don't forget Lewisville is only 2 weeks away. Always a great fun event and even better with an estimated $700 ace pot.

Thanks again everyone. 3 down and 4 to go.

Chris

Thanks Jerry. Kyle and I were talking about it at lunch and thought Joe's -1 on the Hill was about a 1020 so it looks good.

That INT player shooting a 979 seems high for a INT however :D

That is high, but he shot 9 strokes better than the next closest competitor. Maybe he should have been playing advanced. Now it is back in your court. :p

The 4th Texas 10 of the year is just a short time away. On Saturday July 8th we will be in Lewisville.

Lewisville is always a great event, great people and great in hot weather.

We will also have an estimated $700 ace pot for the taking.

Vitamin Water will be there again taking care of everyones hydration needs.

Signup now at www.titledisc.com (http://www.titledisc.com) and make life a little easier for me on the day.

More details soon.

Thanks
Chris

How many events do you need to play to qualify for the bonus payout at the finals?

ozdisc
Jun 27 2006, 07:51 PM
3 of the first 6 to be in the bonus money.

However please remember ANYONE can play the final in September regarless of how many events you have played.

See you in Lewisville for a $700 ace pot. See you in Live Oak for a $30,000 ace. :D

Since the finals are on two different days, how will the ace run be handled...you mentioned a mob of hecklers, but will that be both days, or just Sunday?

Won't make Lewisville, but I'm looking forward to Austin.

I am waiting on a call back from the insurance company Geoff to change the format of it. I want to make it a big throw off in front on everyone and not during the round. Not sure if they will go for it but we will see. Should know later this week. The insurance company just loves to play the numbers with me.

Thanks
Chris

Terrill and Barb will be down definetly. Love playing the Lewisville courses. How sweet it is. I'll pass the word on the ace pot up here.
I'm sure there will be some interested in it.

Chris - will hole #3 be played from the pad or the old money shot?

ozdisc
Jun 29 2006, 03:11 PM
No really sure Adam. I guess I will look at the hole and how much the trees have grown up and the water level to make that call. I have always liked the temp pad on the peninsula.
