suemac
Jan 11 2006, 03:34 PM
Yes, they are allowed in the parking area at the entrance, we camped that way for teams and it was great! There might be some rules about generators though. If someone parked up by the Ranch Road, the noise wouldn't bother anyone that was camping, IMO.

there are 2 motels in Blanco(about 15 minutes from the course)and the one in Wimberly is also about 15 away...lots of B&B's(some where you can get the whole house)...and a couple of RV sites that are very nice within 10 minutes...after that San Marcos would be the closest with chain Hotels(about 30-35 minutes away

South or West Austin has a ton of hotels and the driving time is about 45 minutes to Wimberly. I am planning on being there, but I have family in Austin, about 45 minutes from the course.

I can highly recommend the River Oaks Riverfront RV park, just down the road on FM-165 from the course. It was hot three years ago and swimming every afternoon after golf was fantastic.

gravel road, gravel pads, $20.00 a night, full hook-up. (price from 3 years ago).

I don't have the RV anymore but might think about camping out there for access to the water.

There is also a place in Dripping Springs, but I think it might be kind of pricey (though I have no idea why it would be :D). I'll try to find out the name of it, it is on RR 12, just south of hwy 290.

O-jones, The camping in Wimberly shouldn't be nearly as dusty as San Saba, unless this drought last till April.

There are designated camping areas but, I don't believe you can drive your car into the camp ground area. Not that far of a walk from the parking area but you should know if your planing to "taligate" camp.

I sent an email to Circle R Productions and got a response within 30 minutes!!! :D

As far as RV's go they recommended an RV park called Shady Oaks (5 miles from course). Shady Oaks has a bar, a BBQ restaurant and clean bathrooms. They did say parking at Circle R is first come first serve and that I could park the RV outside the fence by the road if necessary.

Now that is great communication!!

I will be playing some pro events this year, as I have the last three years. Last year was pretty much a fluke. We were all close going into the second day. We shot lights out in the 3rd round while everybody else shot fairly poor. We just kept the lead in the fourth round. (Unlike the year before). Am Worlds are too close to home this year to pass up. With my rating I see no reason to donate to the pros on a weekly basis right now.

Looking for partner to compete in this event my current rating when the new ratings come out should be about a 940. PM me if anyone is thinking about travel to this event and wants to team up. My game is more accuracy and consistancy, not overly long max out at about 335 ft.

Could be a lot of brother teams this year.

Just from the Austin area (at least one brother residing in Austin area), we'll probalby have: my brother and I are playing, Efrain and Erron Salazar (Eric left to fend for himself, I guess), Blair and Blake Nicholson, and Oliver and Keaton Larrabee.

Others possibley: Andy and Anthony Newberry, Terry and Andy Toolen, ??

That would be father and son, although he is getting so big, he could pass for my (taller) brother. We should be there!!!

I just played Circle R for the first time yesterday. It has got to be the best set of courses I have ever played. I picked up a new Star Wraith at the Pro Shop before we set out on the greatest disc golf adventure of my life. I played my best on the "Rolling Meadows" course and it lives up to the name with several holes that can be rolled. The new Star Wraith came in very handy once we reached the "Circ Hill" course, especially in the north wind with gust to 35 mph. It would challenge the best in any golfer. Navigating the fence approching the basket on hole #18 can be a "close encounter" at best. I loved these courses and can't wait to return. Thank you to John Houck !!!

John..I am assuming I already know the answer to this but will a 916 player and a 800 players be required to play MA1 this year since the update comes out a week after that for ratings?

We have 2 new players up here and one is a true NOV/AM..and the other stuck with a 916 rating because he has 1 tourney on last years rankings but will drop to MA2 the week after Worlds.

scoop
Mar 03 2006, 09:40 AM
Adam, sounds like the 916 rated guy should find another MA1 player to help him better compete in his correct division (MA1). The other guy should find a <915 rated player to team up with for MA2.

Seque...who are you playing with this year, Adam?

My partner from the previous two years had to run off and raise his rating to 941, so we'll no longer be bagging at MA2.

Robbie - unfortunately this guy only has 1 tourney currently on his ratings and shot a good round and a decent round making him Advanced right off the bat. This is his first full year of tournies and he isn't really a MA1 player, but they will figure it out I am sure

We've got a guy sort of like that here in Austin (Edward Palacios). He's played in one tournament at his home course, and shot lights out: 956 -- 977 -- 998.

After just one tournament he has a rating of 983, making him the second highest rated AM in the world.

How about hearing from some more GM's out there. Also, lets get at least 2 Senior GM teams this year! You guys must be out there.

The courses are in better condition now. You can see all the efforts to prepare for the Pros next weekend. The turf is starting to show more green than brown. Drought conditions in Central Texas has completely eliminated any water on the courses but, all it would take is a good gully washer to change that. Forecast are showing rain chances by mid week and even more for the weekend. Maybe the Pros will see some water flowing ???

So, are you still gonna plat INT ? I don't think that is fair to the real INT players . Or, are you scared to defend your STATE AM DOUBLES championship that you won playing Adv. Grandmaster division ?
Step up to the box and defend your title or, stay home and give the INT players a chance to win their own swag . I really don't wanna have to call ya'll greedy "BAGGERS" but , if the shoe fits ... :D :D:D

Just to let all the ladies know, as always Advanced Women will be the only ladies division offered. Confirmed this with Houck this past weekend. Apparently there was some confusion. Keela & Christin, I hope you girls will decide to move up and play advanced.

Mar 20 2006, 11:23 AM
Well Sue...if that is the only division offered looks like we might have to. It would be fun to play a lil golf with you and Dee!! However we just moved up to Int. making a jump to Adv would be a leap for us!

I've played in three events, and I can assure you I wasn't an advanced player the first two years! It was a great experience and I know I gained skills that made the step up worthwhile.

I know that Laura Hovey/Jenn Beazley are signing up, and so are Shannon/Michele from Austin. I am sure there are a few other lades out there. It would be great to see lots of ladies out there this year!

They have offered an intermediate mens division in the past, maybe the women's divisions are growing enough to talk about offering more than one division.
