Mr. Duke, that would be grand. Historically, we have had the following participation:
2005- 2 teams
2004- 4 teams
2003- 3 teams + one staff group.
It would great but in order to have any type of field, I think we need to work on generating more female players, that's why supporting TWC is so important for the long term growth of the ladies divisions.
We appreciate all the support you guys have been throwing our way, and thank everyone who helps cultivate more girls on the courses.

Who cares which county its in, from one side of the street to the other, nothing really changes. Guys, we got rained on last weekend a bit, and my observation would be that a week's worth of gully washers would have to appear in order to elimiate the dry conditions.
Hey, the fire at Snow Farm was started by an electrical spark. Just imagine what a campfire could do at Circle R. I don't think everyone wants to melt their shoes stomping out flying embers.

RUMOR OR FACT?
Heard today that if the burn ban is in effect that there would be no camping at all at CIRCLE R for AM DOUBLES weekend. If so, could someone please send me info for other available campgrounds in the area.
Also does a burn ban in those counties restrict gas grills or Bar-B-Q pits?
My home county, BELL, does not restrict grills and pits during burn bans.

I totally understand and agree with the fire safety issues at hand but I am sure that myself and others who will be camping at the ranch do not want to eat cold steaks, chicken or whatever for supper.
May I make a few suggestions for options....
1. Have a designated cooking area for dinners. Everyone could bring their pits and grills to this area for dinner cooking. It could be close enough to a water hose for emergencies. I can also bring several fire extinguishers for this area that I would leave for you guys at the ranch to keep. (Yes my occupation is in fire safety).
2. Have a food vendor who could supply hot meals for dinner.
3. We could all cook in your kitchen...Ha Ha! :D
Even in a situation like this a safe and intellegant option is always at hand.
Please let me know your thoughts on this and let me know if I need to bring a few fire extinguishers.
Paul Taylor
Mar 23 2006, 10:02 PM
If the FIRE BAN is still in effect for AM weekend there WILL be NO open flames of any kind. That includes cig. butts on the ground, BBQ Pits, gas grills or even pit fires with plenty of water and extinguishers. This does not come from the crew at Circle R, but from the Fire Marshall in Hays County, and yes, Circle R is in Hays County. I ran registration for the PRO weekend and everybody had to sign a sheet of paper saying that they would support the burn ban or be ticketed by the Hays County Fire Department and risk expulsion from the tournament and grounds of Circle R.
If the Burn Ban is still in effect then you need to support what the governing body of that county has set forth. This is not a time to try and question or circumvent the rules. Over 800,000 acres have burned in Texas this year, including several towns. This is not something to be taken lightly. Do you want to play disc golf or ....
Hopefully by the time AMs weekend rolls around enough rain will have happened and the burn ban will be lifted and water will be in the creek, water fall and ponds.

Sue.....since you are stressing so much about the situation i already stated that if we had to move up we would. My partner and i both just want to play some golf and have a fun weekend. But why have divisions or ratings at all at tournaments and why OFFER different divisions if you are going to feel pressured to play above your rating and/or skill level? Christin and I are not skeert to play in the advanced division and like i said we just want to play.
No McCrackhead I'm asking for a updated list :Dstep away from the pipe and let the air clear :o:D

suemac
Mar 28 2006, 05:32 PM
It's not really stress my dear. It's the fact that Intermediate has never been offered before to the ladies, and after conversation with Mr Houck, I was left with the impression that this had in fact in offered in error, and would be corrected. Now, he's changed his mind, and opened the door for the division. If we were brimming with gals, I'd be the first to endorse the addition of a second division. However, we are thin in ranks, and it just doesn't make sense, IMO.
If you had played Advanced Doubles for several years, contributing each time and appreciating the experience, and then without any increase in participation, they diluted the group by offering a second division, I'm sure you'd have some of the same feelings.
I played the Pro weekend for the experience, and I'm glad I did. I won't be posting about this again, and just pray it works out for the best.
Bottomline, let's all have fun.

Sorry I've been silent on the women's issue. I'm currently in Tulsa reviewing the courses for Am Worlds. Fortunately, PDGA Tour Manager David Gentry is here with me in case I have questions.
Amateur World Doubles has always offered just one division for women: Advanced Women. This year we thought we might have had enough teams for two divisions, but that appears not to be the case.
So for now we will stick to the policy we've always used. There will be one division called Advanced Women.
I hope that in the near future we'll have enough women to make more divisions. And I hope everyone who has signed up will still want to come play.
We apologize for the confusion.
I'll be back tonight, and we'll post an updated list of teams by Friday.
By the way, anyone coming to Tulsa has lots of good golf to look forward to.
This is my first year playing tourneys...and I am not looking to make enemies in the disc golf community but!!!!!
This is an AM event...by only having ADV women division, we are detering AM women from playing. The only way the womens pay outs and competition will improve is by inviting more Rec and INT women into the CLICK.
Most women I talk to around the courses and tourneys have never played in a sanctioned tourney for 2 main reasons. 1 being cost (most have a partner that also plays) and 2 the average beginner or rec player doesn't want to pay $50 to $100 with little to no chance of winning.
Weekly minis are great experience and there again, I live in DFW and showing up to a mini and having another women there to play with is unusual. Tourneys are usually the only time women get to compete against other women...most of us INT women will pay our entries and have a great time learning...it would also be nice to have the opportunity to win at our skill level.
It seems to be about the money? Paying of dues ie; how many years before you earn the right to win? how many times does one get to hold the AM World Titles?
I may never be good enough but I will continue to try and all this insanity about divisions is @#$%. If the players are signed up and there is a card---there should be the division to support it.
I have never seen the INT men have to play ADV in a Major Event.
What about the women that have now signed up in INT, will it cost them more as they now are forced to play up.
Whew----I feel better!
suemac
Mar 30 2006, 01:07 PM
The price is the same no matter the division played.
If you plan to go to Tulsa this summer for Am Worlds, you will find the same situation. Luckly, some of us can hide in age protected divisions. But no intermediate ladies offered at worlds, period. And let's keep in mind that this is a World event, plain and simple.
<font color="red"> That's what so go great about up and coming events catering to the ladies like TWC. </font>
And I hope I have not come across like I'm mad about the whole situation, I don't want to create any enemies due to this whole mess. But a mistake was made, and has now been corrected. I too wish there was enough of us to support more divisions.
Now, back to the real world of disc golf. Bottomline, cultivate more ladies to play. Many times we have to beat the bushes to come up with a division. Like last weekend, thanks to both Kim and Baby for stepping up and playing advanced.

I agree with you 100% on growing the sport for women. The thing is that this is a World Championship. This is not just a regular tourney. If you look at Am Worlds in Tulsa there isn't an Int division for men either. There are other doubles tourneys that you can play that offer int women like a-z dubs and like Sue said there are tourney's that I can't even play in like TWC. Not that I want to because Dez will hand it me my butt.

Whew----I feel better!
how many female disc golfers will you be bringing to the TWC?? sorry for the thread drift!! :D

Here is a list of teams as of last night. Three more came in this morning and need to be processed.
We're oh-so-close to having enough women to make two divisions -- what other women want to come play?
The PDGA has relaxed the dress code for Am World Doubles. I'll post the exact wording and lunch details this weekend. Schedule will be ready Monday.

OK, why wait for the weekend? Here is the dress code and the scoop on lunch .
The tournament will be providing lunch both days at no charge. The Fajita King will be with us again. They will have breakfast tacos, migas, and coffee for sale Saturday morning and Sunday morning starting at 7:00 am.
The King is thinking about a pasta dish for lunch Sunday instead of fajitas both days. I'd be interested to hear if players would prefer that.
Here is the dress code:
Because this event is outside a busy city park, the PDGA has relaxed the dress code for amateurs. The main concept is to keep it clean and neat.
No cut-off or ripped shirts or shorts.
Sleeveless shirts are fine. Tank tops are not recommended for men, but theyre legal.
No bare midriffs.
No sports bras, unless they're underneath a conforming shirt. Tank tops and spaghetti string are fine for women.
Looking forward to another great weekend.
Thanks,
John

Migas (pronounced MEE gas) is a Tex-Mex tangle of eggs, bits of corn tortilla, and a host of savory ingredients, from black beans, chorizo and cheese to salsa, avocado and chiles. A dish that many professed egg-haters relish, it probably can thank its existence to thrifty cooks looking to use left-over tortillas, since tortillas are an integral part of the dish. The word, migas, in fact, is derived from the Spanish word for crumbs.
I had to look it up -- I'm figuring maybe some of the yankees attending would be curious too.

If it happens to be the same one that walked around on our card all weekend you better know the rules and you better be ready for him to tell you all of the infractions. This guy also if a group was playing slow he road them big time. This was a very nice person but took his job very seriously. It was the first time I have personally had a marshall watching the group from start to finish including the final nine. Keep in mind this guy was very nice but I also learned a few things from him. My guess it is the wave of the future and we are living in it.
See all you worlds dubs boys Thrusday and cannot wait other than just pushed 670 miles round trip from BG last weekend and now probably tripple that by a week from today.

Mark is a great guy.
Don't worry, he probably headed back to South Carolina- where he lives now.
When he lived in Fayetteville, Mark and I hiked hundreds of miles together in and around the Buffalo National River, Hurricane Creek, and many other Arkansas gems. He is a mule! A recovering Ultimate player, he's only played disc golf a little over two years. He got the bug- BAD! :D
Have a great time in Wimberley, Ron. There is a great Mexican restaraunt there. It's about 50 yards off the main road, at a trafic light that is near the bridge. Lit up with little tiki lamps and stuff. Good food. :D
Play smart, throw far. :)

The live online scoring (what the TD submits) still does not correctly handle doubles events. The official results page does. I haven't had a chance to get it corrected.

Here is the latest team list, with pool assignments. Right now we have 86 teams, which means we have room for 22 more. I would not wait until the last minute.
The biggest news right now is that the BURN BAN IS BACK IN EFFECT. Unless we get a bunch more rain, there will be NO FLAMES allowed on the property. No campfires, no charcoal/propane grills, no candles, etc. If you're planning to camp, please be prepared. If you violate the burn ban, you can be ticketed... not to mention the fact that you put the whole property in jeopardy.
We are looking at the possibility of establishing a group grilling area in the parking lot -- we'll see what we can figure out.
It's exciting that we are very close to having enough women's teams to make two divisions. One more team in each division would do the trick.
We're sending schedules and directions to everyone who provided us with an e-mail address when they registered. We'll also post that information here.
Looking forward to another great weekend.
Thanks,
John

Will the AMs need collared shirts, as the pros did, for this event?

Thanks,
John

Here is the letter we just sent to all registered players for whom we have an e-mail address.
Hi, everybody --
Looks like we're heading for a good weekend. The weatherman says no rain later this week, but Ill believe it when I see it.
If it doesn't rain -- or doesn't rain enough -- the Hays county burn ban will still be in effect. That means absolutely NO FLAME of any kind is allowed on the property. No campfires, no charcoal/propane grills, no candles, etc. If you're planning to camp, please be prepared. If you violate the burn ban, you can be ticketed... not to mention the fact that you put the whole property in jeopardy. We really appreciate your help on this one.
We are going to see if we can set up a communal grilling area in the parking lot.
The jumbo player package for this year includes two hot new drivers, a t-shirt, lunch both days, a mini, green fees, and free camping. The discs are Millenniums new Sirius Orion LF and your choice of a Star Sidewinder or Star SL from Innova.
Note that most cell phones don't work at the course. If you need an emergency number to give people, it's 830-833-1227.
If you need any help with lodging or driving directions, they're up on our website:
http://www.circularproductions.com/content/category/4/76/60/
Formats and rules are up at:

No bare midriffs.
No sports bras, unless they're underneath a conforming shirt. Tank tops and spaghetti string are fine for women.
The schedule is below. We have pool assignments posted on the PDGA discussion board. Basically, heres how it works:
Pool A is the first 36 Advanced teams signed up
Pool B is the first 36 Intermediate and Womens teams signed up
Pool C is Advanced Masters, Advanced Grandmasters, and overflow from Pool A and Pool B
Looking forward to seeing everyone this weekend.
Thanks,

And here are answers to popular questions:
* There are fewer than 18 spots left. If you snooze, you may lose. We will take registrations Friday night until 9:00. Register on Titledisc.com, or call us with a credit card. 830-833-1227. No Saturday registrations.
* Your team will not be in the tournament until BOTH PLAYERS have paid.
* My bad on Anderson-Brenner. They are in MM1, Pool C (not MA1 Pool A).
* No more waffling on women. If we have enough teams to make two divisions, we will make two divisions. We must have three in each division in order to make that split. Otherwise, there will be one division called Advanced Women. Obviously our goal is to get as many women as possible by offering divisions appropriate to their skill levels.
* In keeping with World Doubles guidelines and PDGA guidelines and the principles of good course design, Intermediate, Advanced Master, Advanced Women, and Advanced Grandmaster will all play from the White tees. Advanced will play from the Blue tees. This policy has nothing to do with anyone's age, gender, race, religious preferences, disc choices, or net annual income. It is merely about how far and how accurately people throw.

True, but I think the scorecards will still prove the policy sound.
As an example, hole #18 on the Rolling Meadow did give up three 3's Pro weekend, but it's still a legit three-shot hole for pros from the Blue Tees. It is more than a three-shot hole for Advanced Masters from the Blue Tees. Even more so for Adv GM's and Adv Women.
Sorry I don't have time to get further into this, because it is a valuable discussion (maybe Chuck can save me). What I did want to say is this: we hope to have a small number of fundraiser discs available this weekend.
If they arrive in time, we'll have maybe 40 brand new blank Sirius Omeags. $30 each -- all proceeds to World Doubles. Limit two per customer. E-mail me to reserve yours.

Three days of practice . . . .?? That would be nice -- maybe spring break will fall on the other side of World Doubles the next time I'm heading to Texas and I can get there early.
From what I've seen from weather.com the weather looks crazy good . . . .?? Is it to early to think the forecast may actually be right?

I was thowing one in BG with a 20 mph L to R crosswind and it held an overstable flight way better than the Star Wraith.

We have plenty of TeeRexes, including some with the World Doubles stamp.
Now here are a few more updates:
1. We will have 50 very special discs available as a World Doubles Fundraiser. These are blank, hot off the presses, Sirius Omegas. These discs are so new, we havent seen them ourselves. Theyre $30 each, and all the profits go to World Doubles.
2. Fridays events (Mixed Doubles and Worst Shot) are just for fun. They are not part of the tournament itself. You can register up until tee time ($20 per team).
3. We will allow campers to grill in our courtyard until 9:00pm Friday night and Saturday night. Otherwise, NO FLAME anywhere on the property. A flame anywhere else can get you removed from the property. We hope this accommodation will make your weekend more enjoyable.

Tough Shot is meant to be a fun practice round with a competitive edge. The format helps you learn where not to throw during the weekend.
We normally go with consensus on which course to use. If the players have a preference, we're happy to accommodate that. From what I'm hearing so far, it'll probably be the Meadow.
