At least, that's what the LSDGA schedule says. I haven't heard back from anyone I've tried to e-mail. Anyone have any info about this tournament? It was always one of my favorites, but I didn't make '04 or '05. I'll be there this year.

Hi Rhett. Hopefully, it will be on titleDISC.com before too long since it's only about seven weeks away. :) I'm pretty sure this tournament usually fills (or close to it) every year. Are you gonna make the trip from SoCal so SoTex?
For shame, Matt.

Dec 28 2005, 06:54 PM
Who's the TD? I think two of us are going to invade SoTx and plans for that need to be made well in advance. I'd like to make sure I have a spot in the field if I'm going to go through all that trouble. Know what I mean? :)

Tommy turn your computer on. :D Does anyone else in Victoria have a computer?
The hotel used in years past has been the La Quinta out near the mall. It was around $50 per night and had plenty of restaurants next to it.
The Saturday night was normally a players party at the restaurant sponsors location to thank them for thier support.
If anyone from Victoria actaully read this thread does anyone have room for me and a friend to crash that weekend and have room to park the Thunder. I will be towing the Thunder on my little road trip.
Time to for some news Vic Boys.

Three weeks after major surgery, I don't think we'll be seeing Queen D in Victoria this year! However, I have already sent my money in, I would expect the Jenn and maybe Neal might be coming, we have a couple of other ladies who have been playing Rec who plan to play up this year. Trying to encourage them to head on down. And depending on Ian's BB schedule, Laura Hovey might be able to join us too. Tbender, will Kat be playing this year?
And as I recall, they have some strong local talent that should be playing Advanced with us this year.
Bottomline, this tournament is on my "not to be missed" list. Look forward to some new faces Megan.

Something to remember about the Open and Masters divisions in 2005. The PDGA moved Mace's Z-Boaz to conflict with Victoria, so all Pro's had to choose between the two events. This year there is no such conflict.

Don't tell me you are one of those rude tourney golfers who play with headphones on.
I think it should be a courtesy violation to play tourney golf like that. Seriously. You can't talk to the guy on your card when he is shooting out of turn, or ask him his score, or anything.
It's genuinely annoying!

I enjoy playing with headphones on too. I can hear everything around me just fine while I have my headphones on --- they're not cranked up full volume.
How is playing with headphones on any more rude than the player who won't shut the hell up the whole round?
Plus knowing that my wearing headphones would get into the mind of another player, I'd be all the more inclined to wear them...
rhett
Jan 10 2006, 10:09 PM
...did you seriously believe I don't talk on the course anymore?
I guess that is pretty hard to believe. :)
I've had a couple of bad tourney experiences lately with a guy who plugs in the mp3 player at the beginning of the round and doesn't take it out until the end. It seems like it should be perfectly fine to do, but it completely disrupts the dynamic of the card.
rhett
Jan 10 2006, 10:13 PM

No, that is at Live Oak. I think #13 is either a right hyzer knife if you are Vinnie, or if you want to ace the hole, throw straight at it. :p
I hit basket last year on the spike. The middle line had vines hanging down so it was risky.

What's the deal with the RV park as you are entering the park ?
Is it part of the park, or something different ?
Do they rent spots for a weekend ?
turk
Jan 13 2006, 12:24 AM
I don't thing it is actually part of the park. It is operated by the city. The good news is that space rental is really cheap ($10?) and is on the honor system. Only rule I know about is RVs only(no tents). I have always seen plenty of spaces on weekends so if its empty, its yours.

Jan 13 2006, 10:11 PM
Went and checked out the RV Park by the Park. They have 18 pull-thru spaces. All have full hook-ups (water, sewer & elec.). Fee is $12 per site/per night and is on the honor system. They do not take reservations. So if it's empty it's yours. There were 10 spaces occupied this afternoon. Probably half looked like extended stays and the rest overnighters.

Still working a hotel deal. So far the best I have is at LaQuinta. $63/night up to 4 per room. I still have 3 more to here back from. I will have a deal done by Friday.
Also, we are asking for donations for the infamous "VOC Raffle". I know for sure we will have at least 1 "Pull your own ticket" basket. Last year the raffle raised $480 for EDGE and TWC. Contact any club member for more info. All donations are greatly appreciated.

La Quinta Inn of Victoria is this years host hotel. As mentioned earlier the rate is $63/night for up to 4 people. You will need to call the hotel @ 361.572.3585 to get this rate and tell them you are playing in the "Victoria Open Disc Golf Tournament".
I am also working a food deal for lunch both days. Any requests?
Entries are starting to come in. I will begin posting a players list next week. I strongly suggest you enter early. Last year we had 94 players on the same weekend as an A-tier. This year we have a solo event date and I expect we will fill before the 18th. Besides, it will make my life less stressfull if we are full ahead of time. :)

Mike, Sorry I missed ya'll at the park. We got a late start, but managed to get a few badly needed things done. We wiil be moving some baskets just as we did last year. I got a call earlier today that makes all the hard work promoting Disc Golf in Victoria worth it. :) As a result we will be starting to work with the local YMCA youth in a new Disc Golf after school program. :D:D
The first thing we need to do is get them discs to play with. I am asking for players to donate used discs that we can give them. They have been playing Disc Golf at the course with frisbees. :p
This one of those rare instances they works out well for everyone involved. If you can, please help by donating one used disc. I know everybody has at least one disc laying around they don't throw anymore. The kids will be glad to use it. I will have a box at the Open for those that wish to help.
Many thanks to all :D:D:D

Great connection with the YMCA. Looks like we have another Texas EDGE grant to give. Tommy, drop me a line and tell me more about the after-school program.
