Everyone is invited to come out and throw Barnette Park in Kinston. Most people don't come out in the summer but we have worked very hard to get the course playable. If you have ever been to Kinston in the summer you won't beleive the condition that it is in right now. Most of us play at least play 4 days a week. Log on to www.kinstondiscgolf.com (http://www.kinstondiscgolf.com) to register a profile and check out what we have going on. The forum has a list of up coming activities and is a great place to meet up with someone playing the course on most any day. Thanks for checking us out.

I got these numbers from the course page... Maybe you meant feet, not yards?

Yet another course in EasterNC that gets no recognition. Kinston is a Harold Duvall design (distinctly recognizalbe with the doglegs and enormous tee pads). If you've played Castle Payne, you'll know how brutal this course could possibly be. It's harder than Wilmington. Partially because of the rough before, but now that the local chuckers down there have cleaned it up a bit, sounds like prime time for golfin. Check Kinston out, it will make you better. I think my best round from the blues is like -4. All holes are par 3, unless you play rec league or something. Hole 6 will make you laugh (or cry, depending on your level of masculinity and humor). Go enjoy this awesome course, then come down the road to New Bern, it's just as challenging, and a way more scenic (minus the crap plant beside it, you can only smell it on a rainy day on 18, 1, 2, and 3). Come support EasterNC disc golf.

I'd say in proportion tp par (kinston is 58, the castle is 64) that yes, Kinston is much tougher.
But straight scoring average, the castle is harder

Hey MTL, the 12th is on Tuesday. Monday is my birthday, so I have been counting. ;)
So just to be clear, which day is dubs?
FWIW, I think it is great to see more interest in this course. Since the Castle is my home course, Kinston is an obvious favorite of mine. Maybe this could help build One Moe into a 2 day event, or even get another tourney there sometime. There just aren't enough days in the year to have tourneys at all the great NC courses. We are so lucky!

Thanks to everyone that came out today and played Kinston. We enjoyed it and look forward to seeing you at doubles on Wednesday. If you have anything that you would consider putting up for CTP or placings, we could use it. Being new at this we don't have any club plastic yet, but we will work on it. Those of you that handle tourneys and such, I would appreciate any advice towards obtaining club plastic and running an event.
Joseph
Jul 07 2005, 01:15 AM
Also, any information on club dues and bag tags would be helpful as well.
MTL21676
Jul 07 2005, 02:15 AM
I would charge 5 dollars a head, payout top third of the teams.
If you would like, I will be glad to offer a payout scheme the day of.
Joseph
Jul 07 2005, 12:20 PM
Thanks for the suggestion. I would like to see the schematic you have. Our club is having a biz meeting to discuss these items on Tuesday. If you could post it or e-mail it to me that would be great.
MTL21676
Jul 07 2005, 12:40 PM
Number of teams - teams payed out
1-3 1
4-6 2
7-9 3
10-12 4
So on so forth....
The winning team should recieve around 60 - 75% of the money and the team that finishes "last cash" (example - a team that finished 3rd with 9 teams) should get thier money back.
Everything in the middle is kind of filler.
Any questions, lemme know
Joseph
Jul 07 2005, 06:13 PM
Thank, and how do most clubs run Ace pool? What do you roll over and what do you put in the club account?
MTL21676
Jul 07 2005, 06:23 PM
well, ace pool should be rolled over and it should never be put into the club account.
I would have no problem with you guys taking like 10 - 20 dollars out of the purse for the club, and I don;t think anyone else would either
Joseph
Jul 07 2005, 06:35 PM
Yeah, we have got to start an account and we need to build up a little cash for expenses. We are hoping to initiate club dues soon as well. But as I said earlier, we don't even have any money to buy plastic. I guess it just takes some time and some weekly events to build up a slush fund. With that said I'll take any "more" advice you have toward raising money and getting a plastic selection.
MTL21676
Jul 07 2005, 06:37 PM
well, unless you do plastic payouts or take money out of the purse, your club will not make any money

If you ever do a monthly event, I suggest offering $1 mulligans(5 max) with the money going to the club. That is what Kentwood did when they needed a couple new baskets.
at kinston you could do 5 a hole and make a killing!!!
Joseph
Jul 08 2005, 12:17 AM
Could you explain that to me? I don't think that I get it?
MTL21676
Jul 08 2005, 12:32 AM
Basically if someone chooses to throw a mulligan, they pay a dollar. It's a fun way to raise money for a course
Joseph
Jul 08 2005, 12:56 AM
Yeah I got the mulligan thing...i was refering to the Five dollar a hole post.
MTL21676
Jul 08 2005, 01:09 AM
he was just saying that if you allowed 5 mulligans a hole (which I hope to god you never would) you would make some serious cash b/c the course is so tough.
Just charge 5 dollars, one of which goes to the ace pool, and take out 10 % of the entry from the 4 dollars like we talked about tonight and everyhting will be cool.

I don't know Mike but I would call him if you think he would be interested in making a donation or being a hole sponsor for our weekly random doubles. I order some stuff from the site, if that helps my case any. What is his last name and how can I get up with him? Maybe he would provide us some plastic as we are trying to build up some for our events?
Joseph
Jul 11 2005, 12:12 AM
Two things:
1. Can anyone tell me how clubs get their plastic? Does it get paid for by club dues, donations, sponsors?
2. Don't forget to make plans to attend our first random doubles event this Wednesday tee time 6:00 ....spread the word and visit us at www.kinstondiscgolf.com (http://www.kinstondiscgolf.com)
and if anyone happens to drive off to the right side of hole 13's fairway past the short pad.....keep an eye out for a blue/green tiedyed orc........reward if someone finds it for me cuz id really appreciate it!!

ok i make one exception to white/clear......tydied discs are ice clear and then have crap on top of them....so its still white/clear.....and that orc has j.mills written on the bottom.....if someone finds it just give it off to a greenville disc golfer and it will find its way home

The course looks great, but the best reason to visit Kinston is to sample their famous Eastern North Carolina chopped pork barbeque. The epicenter of this Southern delicacy is at a place called King's Restaurant where the King family has been fixing their gourmet cuisine since the 1850's. After a day of playing disc golf, nothing will top off the day like the taste of their Barbeque, black-eyed peas, collard greens, hushpuppies, and just about anything that would make a Southerner feel at home.

You guys dont know how thrilled I am to see this thread going on the board. My heart pumps for Down East disc golf, and I am so excited to see things moving in the right direction in Kinston. This course is one of our finest (I love them all). The more it is played, the better the course will be. I hope the Kinston folks know they will have all the support that the Knapps are able to give.
I have noticed that you're looking for suggestions on the growth of disc golf in Kinston. Running doubles is a great foundation. Our doubles is our foundation. If you can do it, make a points series for your doubles. It will draw intrest every week and add to the friendly competitveness that makes our sport so fun.
Joseph

Good to hear from you Scott! We are real excited about what is going on and the course has come a long way. Maybe you can make it out Wednesday for doubles? MTL21676
Jul 18 2005, 05:17 PM
There is one hole you're not gonna 2 - I saw someone hit the basket from like 150 out and that was the best shot at 2 I saw...I went 3 3 4 4 on it.....
There are a few holes with some OB (both creeks and artificial that was put up for the tournament) and there is some holes that if you miss you're line, you probably won't par.
Other than that, its pretty much straight forward - even when I played my best round (48) I 3 putted, missed an easy approach, and threw OB. Most of the holes require some disctance to get to, but some smaller arms can shoot good if they can duece the technical holes on the back part of the course.
It really is a fun course and has some shots that you don't see too often in NC.

Hey, I just wanted to let everyone know that I found out tonight that my shoulder is not dislocating....that is the good news. The bad news is that I tore the bicep tenndon that attatches to my shoulder ( repetitive forceful overhead throwing ) It is called a SLAP tear and I will be getting a MRI in the morning to see how bad it is. My orthopedic Doc says I will have to have surgery especially if I ever want to throw again. He recommends a surgeon in Kentucky and I may have to head out as early as tomorrow afternoon. I will keep you posted as to my evaluation and progress. Keep me in your thoughts while you are throwing plastic, I am going to miss getting to play.

excuses will get you no where joe you just gotta go throw
Joseph
Aug 17 2005, 01:09 AM
I will be going to Duke to get the opinion of the head of Sports Medicine. If he agrees with my Doctor, then I will have the operation to reattatch the bicep tendon. I hope that there are other options. I did go out to the course today and threw left handed. I only played a few holes it was frustrating and just made me more uptight about the whole shoulder injury. Maybe I will come out for doubles and see everyone before going to Duke on Thursday. Joey, be gald I am not playing......it is likely the only shot you have at winning. ;)

Joey and I have the course set sweet for the benefit tournament. I will be playing lefty again and possibly putting with the right, I'll have to see how it goes. I will be holding off on the surgery for about four weeks and then I will be reevaluated. Anyway, I am looking for a great turn out int the morning. We will see how many of our local disc golfers have a heart and those that just throw plastic.

It is days like Sunday that remind you of the good heartedness that people have. I am so proud of everyone that was invovlved in any way with the Robert Wynn Tournament. Obviously it was a huge sucess, but it should also remind each of us to live life to the fullest and be sure to always tell the people we love how we feel. There are no gaurantees with life, but I gaurantee that you will be remembered for your efforts toward this noble cause. You guys are my brothers, I am proud of you all.

Joe, are these the official dates for One Moe's? I haven't seen them anywhere else yet. Are they C-tiers also?
Joseph
Oct 28 2005, 12:53 AM
According to Knapp, these dates are a go, just waiting for the paper work to go through. They will be D-tier, however, I will be working toward a C-tier for 2006. These two tournaments will be seperate events. That is all the info I have right now, I will be talking with Scott more at the Fall Disc Golf Classic. Last year we had a huge turnout for the MOE in Kinston. I would expect it to be similar this year.
grateful24655
Oct 29 2005, 09:33 PM

C tier and D tier are very similar. It don't maTTa, they are tournaments. WOOOHOOOOO.
MTL21676

I believe the main difference is that D-Tiers do not charge the 5 dollar fee for non members, which is good for a small local PDGA event like this one.
Joseph
Oct 31 2005, 07:54 PM
I am going to be starting up a two-day tourney in the Spring hopefully. I may need to call on a few of you guys to help me out. Scott has already given me some valuable information. We are thinking about calling it the "King's Cup" not official yet though.

if you will do all the stuff with raising money and funding everything etc, I would be happy to run the tournament and handle that stuff. If you want this to happen, lemme know.

Gary can shoot, I have seen him so I know that he can. I am, however, still left with a little disappointment in him after the second round yesterday. Gary, shoot your game and let the rounds fall where they may. Everybody has a bad round, trust me on this. You are a good enough golfer to rely on your shots. I am just as competitive as the next guy but I won't do anyhting to move up or win.............be true to yourself and fair to others.
