The first photos are on the KinstonDiscGolf.com site and the standings are on the Ice Bowl page. There should be more photos soon. Steve Spaanbroek photogrpahed the event for us and took a lot more photos than we currently have up.
Gary Goomis took first place in the competitive division. Thanks to everyone who came out in the drizzle to make the Ice Bowl a success. ICOR was thrilled with the donation that totaled over $500. Everyone deserves a hand.
I'm looking forward to the Greenville Ice Bowl this coming weekend, too. Should be a great event.

Say word! I couldn't make it out for I am a slave to my parents for the next couple of months. I am helping them pack up their belongings and clean up the house. They are building a new one and are looking to sell. If anyone is interested in a historic house in downtown New Bern, let me know. I might be able to get you a deal. The house is over 100 years old. When my parents bought it in '88 it was worth $80000. Now, with all the add ons and improvements it's worth over $300000. Trust me, it's worth it, 4 bedroom, 2 full baths, parlor, sun room, kitchen, dining room, and utility room. Garage out back. Very large deck with hot tub, yeah buddy.

N.C. Weekend, a PBS show that features various recreational activities in the state, is scheduled to show a 5 minute segment on disc golf August 24th at 9:00pm. Check your local listing to confirm the time and date. We have no idea how it will come out as it was very spur of the moment and everything was unscripted. The tape was shot in Kinston and hopefully will be a assest to disc golf state wide. I sure hope so......that's all I've got for now. Hope to see everyone this weekend in Greenville or Richlands!

Two-day disc golf tourney wraps up at Kinston park
December 18,2006
KATIE MARSHALL
STAFF WRITER
Disc golfers from all over North Carolina came to Kinston to finish a two-day tournament on Sunday.
More than 60 people participated in the One Moe Disc Tourney that started Saturday at Glenburnie Park in New Bern and ended Sunday at Barnet Park. It was a Professional Disc Golf Association (PDGA) C-tier pro-am tournament.
The PDGA is an association dedicated to the growth of the sport, which uses flying discs instead of balls and clubs. The association sanctions tournaments throughout the world, including the One Moe Disc Tourney.
Joseph Noble, the tournament’s director and a teacher at South Lenoir High School, said he wants to continue to have sanctioned events like this one in Kinston and New Bern.
“We want to continue to have the sport grow here,” he said.
Noble said the 18-hole disc golf course at Barnet Park is one of the best in the state.
“Kinston has a jewel in its backyard,” he said.
Noble himself participated in the tournament and like many others found out about the sport from someone else.
“Some of my students introduced me to this sport,” he said.
The same goes for Alex Keil, of Chapel Hill and Daniel Hillyer of Jacksonville.
“I just got hooked right away,” Keil said.
Kail met Hillyer, Donnie Shumate of Jacksonville and Dave George of Wilmington on Saturday in New Bern when the tournament started.
“I’m constantly meeting new people,” he said.
Hillyer also likes meeting new people and getting outside.
“This game gets you out on nice days,” he said. “But I’ve also played in bad weather.”
Hillyer described disc golf as “poor mans golf” because the game doesn’t cost as much as golf.
“The discs can get expensive, but you can pretty much play for free,” he said.
Like some of the other participants, Noble would like to see more women play disc golf. Of the 61 participants in the tournament, six were women.
“We’re working on getting more women involved in this sport,” he said.

I'm famous. The camera dude even had me take an extra 30' putt so he could take a picture of me canning a long one. I took my obligatory warning and moved on. I also took my only two birdies of the round while he was following us... then I took a really ugly bogie when the writer was following us. Apparently, I don't look as good as Daniel. It might have been the pajamas I was wearing.

Flipper,
I'm sorry to burst your bubble but it is not a warning.
It is a stroke.
Believe me, I got stroked for an additional putt at my very first Pro Worlds in 1996.

There are around 60 spots left for the King's Cup II. In addition, the baskets at the course are off the poles until further notice. We should be getting the new tops, chains and cages within a week. We also placed a bridge on hole five between the long and the shorts. I will post when we get the new baskets installed. Until then....get those registrations in! :D

I got to play the course this evening for the first time since the clearing. I think it's a real improvement. Some areas, like the goal area on #1 are now larger and more open, so you have a bigger area to throw into. However, it balances out because there's now about 3 times the exposure to the stream behind #1.
Number 16's left side is way more open, but there are still a lot of trees to keep it from being a clear shot out. If you make the mando on #16, you'll end up in the same areas as before. No new line, but nicer to hunt for your disc.
The landing area around #14's goal is a lot larger now, which means you can actually be facing a longer putt if you overshot the goal.
I'm sure there will be some discussion about the changes, but I think it's a definite improvement.
Nothing changed on 2, 3, 4 (not considering the storm damage that dropped a couple trees in the inside corner of the dogleg), 6, 11, 12, 17 or 18.
After you play round, I'd be interested to hear what you think.
