I am going to go with timing, and possibly height control (if your leg is that high, then you have to be pivoting your body toward the ground). Of couse, i am just guessing.

There's a hyzer line low along the hill that hits dirt/rock above and short of the basket that will slide to the pin.

Based on what I've seen, I'm pretty much sold on NEVER playing this course. A 30-foot wide fairway mown into waist-high grass? Sounds like lost disc hell. Also, I don't know what the situation is with ticks down in TN, but that kind of hole would be tick city (lyme disease) if it were up here in the northeast US.

Another carving in the park http://www.kdgc.com/images/photogallery/eagle4_s.jpg
If you ever go on a road trip to BC be sure to check out Rose Hill!
Nice sweden and rose hill pictures.
I love how the yellow swedish poles make the basket stand out. Man it's a nightmare for me to try to find a DGA basket in the woods/dark when you don't know exactly where it is. Also notice how much a sculpture/art piece can add to the character of a course. Two things for course pros to consider, if you haven't already.
As far as the gallatin TN "lost disc" hole goes, it doesn't look THAT bad.
Just:
1. double the width of the fairway from 200-350ft.
2. make a few paths into the grass to aid in searching.
3. have the most accurate player in the group throw first, then run down the fairway and spot.
4. a few flags would help.
Should be no problem at all, since I'm not doing the work :)

Gallatin is a sweet course. I've played it in the winter and the grass is definitely not that long. Finding discs wasn't a problem. Half the course is mostly short wooded holes (that one pictures is probably the hardest/longest) and the other half is open and long. Makes for a fun variety all on one course. The best part about Gallatin is you can drive another 15 minutes back towards Nashvegas when you are done and play Sander's Ferry in Hendersonville (quite possibly my favorite course out of the 36 I have played).

Yo Kurtbayne,
we have 3 carved pieces of art in our Park/course at Rose Hill including a massive bench that looks like it came off the "Alien" movie set. I think it really adds to the character of the place, and it also instills a sense of ownership by the users. We hope to get more carvings whenever the opportunity presents itself.

The A tee on that hole is closer (in the tree tunnel). That is the mando shot. You have to run the tunnel from the A tee.
Primetime, that hole has mando written all over it, even during recreational rounds. Looks pretty intimidating. we had one similar for our Canadian Nationals temp course. Less woody but more terrain involved. Cool hole!
That hole looks like a blast! Cant believe someone would go around the tunnel. I would empty my bag out on that tunnel just looking for the best D for future shots to have in the bag. Someone should deffinately put the Mando sign up and some steaks to represent OB for sure.

The B tee is mando now at Tournaments. There is a flag 75ft down the tunnel. If you went OB before crossing the flag you had to throw back around the flag and start back down the tunnel.

For the record...
There is a REAL OB fence along the road...what you see in the pictures is a dinky post or two that I think is used to define the shrub line, not sure though.
Anita: The A tee is actually out of the trees by the road.
The pictured tee shot is the B tee, and YES it is a mando.
The C tee is about 30' behind B and more towards the left. From C all you can do is hit a huge hyzer like the one in the picture.
From B the best I've managed is a putt at a 3....a LONG putt.
And from C, I've had birdie putts....goes to show the toughness of the mando.
(Maybe the mando shot should be labeled the C tee....would make the scores more appropriate)

Gallatin, Tenn., Good example of a "True" disc golf fairway. The hole is over 500' I believe, fairway about 30'-40' wide, and the tall grass is about waist to chest high depending on how tall you are.
Gallatin, Tenn., Another tight fairway shot.
Yeah, I got 2 ticks from playing one round, my buddy found a couple too, they were everywhere. Shawn (my friend) threw a brand new 10X Teebird into the rough and left it there after finding a tick nest right where the disc disappeared. We think the ticks ate it.
Holly cow ... don't you guys know how to scale down images for the WEB? JeeZ. LOL
NO! How? I have tried in a different thread. I scaled the pics to 3"x3" before I hosted them, and they were still huge. I ended up just providing a link to them, where they were too small. Any help?
Adobe Photoshop. Just resize the image to the pixel size you want to use. Also there is a html script you can plug into the line that will tell the browser how to display it. I think it is [image source H=400 W=300] Try different #'s till you get what you need. Give it a shot. I know in the Hieght and width you can also put a percentage which will scale it down from the original size.
The day Natalie got bit buy the DG bug. I love this game!!! Austin TX

In Photoshop, Under File, There is a "automate" command,
Choose "web photo gallery" Then choose the folder of photos you want to resize. Photoshop does the work for you.
you obviously dont know what you are talking about by posting that big asss pic!

Thanks Jake, I'll give that a shot...
Oh man.....burn, I'm just a busy mutha Nix, No time. But yeah there are always more than one way to skin a cat. But dont listen to me cause me just a dumb redneck........duhhhhhh
Ok this example " url is not html. I tried to edit the post with some html and this board does not support html scripts probably for security reasons. The images posted on this board are specific to this board. Might have to contact the admins to go that route. I would stick to the adobe and resize the image and host it somewhere like I stated. sorry I am stuck on photoshop 5 yall. I dont htink I have that short cut in my menu.

Dec 08 2004, 02:31 PM
Photoshop 5 does not have the web photo gallery option.
WPG was a new feature in PS 6.
When you get the Choose propt, you must choose a destination folder
I suggest creating a new folder on the desktop.
Inside folder you will find folders containing photos, thumnails (could be used
as avatars) and the 'ready for web use' page.
Good luck.
PM me with questions.
MMMMMMM.......maybe this redneck does have an idea of what he is talking about. :D:D:D:D
I re-sized them and uploaded them again.
I use photoshop for some automated web design stuff and advanced image manipulation, but more than not I will use Irfanview (http://www.irfanview.com/).
Nice progie. I like the fact that it is simple and free. Joel, what ever happened to the upgrade you wer going to do?
No time right now. I've built the database and am starting to propigate it, them I need to learn well php enough to modify or build my own script.
Soon, but maybe later :)

Sharp eyes, primetime :D
(I was actually just wondering if someone would notice... ;) )
The Lills Open tournament, where that photo was taken, was played in May 2003. Before joining Innova Team Champion later that summer, he sometimes carried an elite-x X2 driver in the bag. (And that hole is only 145m (476ft), so he probably didn't need a Beast anyway... ;) )
SwePeter, I like those swedish tees with the speed bump in front, but have you heard of any/many injuries with those tees?
[sorry for thread drift guys]
That photo of Birgitta on the latest DGWN is a great one. The action is coming right at you. The photo that comes to mind for me was a shot run on the cover of Disc Golf Journal back in 1996. This was when the publication was a large tabloid-sized newspaper. Ken Climo fills the entire page and is holding up seven fingers the photo was taken minutes after Ken won his 7th title at South Bend.
Another unique cover photo from DGJ was when they interviewed an Amateur player who happened to also be a professional skateboarder ugh, I can't remember his name, but he was from the Cincinnati area. Super nice kid. So we set up a shot where he jumped over a stack of golf discs.
Those two really stand out for me because they weren't the run of the mill drives and putts pictures.

Apparently no problem with the front board, I haven't heard of anyone hurting themselves on these tees. (And this wouldn't be the PDGA board if there wasn't some at least some thread drift, would it? ;) )

Methinks the picture has been doctored. There is also a shadow on the thrower's leg that follows the shirt in front. Someone was having fun with Photoshop.
But I could I always be wrong and the shirt is on inside out. :-)

and that is a picture from one of my nightmares, and add water to either side and it's the twilightzone.
nice pic.
This is hole 4 at Nockamixon State Park which will be used for Pro Worlds 2005. The hole is somewhere around 460-475 feet long. There actually IS water on the right-hand side of this hole. If your disc were to turn over badly to the right, there is a steep slope leading down to a small creek about 10 feet wide that is OB. With a headwind often blowing, this happens all too frequently.
The best move on this hole is to throw a Roc or other midrange to land on the center of the fairway about 200-250 feet out. From there, the hole actually opens up significantly for a shot of about equal length to the polehole. Aggressive play with a driver on this hole usually leads to disaster. A birdie three on this true pro par four hole is quite an accomplishment.

I wish I could, but I don't think the "funds" will be available to go. I want revenge on those courses. I played horrible last year. But if I do, I will be sure to look you up. How many of you guys are going to it?

This is hole number 11 at Ozark Mountain and is 760ft. downhill through a 30-40 foot wide alley. There is a 70-80 ft. elevation change. It is sometimes referred to as "1-800-Collect". This picture is taken from the bottom. I actually par'ed this hole with a dx classic roc.

Hole 18 at Kereiakes in Bowling Green. The basket is about 30 to 40 feet to the right once you make it out of the tunnel.

Jeff, not really this is the hole where I threw a roller and it rolled up the base of one of the trees and went OB 8 feet up.
Cost me 4th place at Bowling Green. Instead I got T-7th
Looks like a perfect backhand roller hole to me! :D

The hole isn't that long. A straight flick with a crush got me a 30 foot putt and I can't even flick that well. Great course though....definitely coming up for the big BG tourney this spring.

I got a 3 on hole 15 at Walnut Ridge , but it was in a practice round with Feldberg and Hammock. I got a much worse score on it in the tournament. I will be at Bowling Green also for the first time in April!

It is a GREAT BH roller. The grass is a little long around the basket, but no one else is going to have that problem off the tee. :D

You might end up with more lost disc penalties than you ever had 2-meter penalties by challeging the Keriakes cedars.
Maybe not a great shot in terms of X's & o's, but it showcases our Ashes, and quite appeals to me: http://www.centxdglove.com/uploads/ELDO_Sunny_Shade_2K4.jpg

Your pics has to be available somewhere on the net. Then just click the "Image" button under "Instant UBB code" on the msg edit page, and enter the complete URL address to the pic in the pop up field. That should do it...
Here are some of my own favorites from the discdragon/area46 vaults. I'm also planning to make more of these available as desktop backgrounds in higher resolution at area46.tip.nu in the future.
Click on the pics displayed below for larger (800x600) photo view:

Does anyone know how he got the thumbnails to work like that? I think it's a great idea instead of posting big pictures.
I'd sure like to know myself...those thumbnails are all 'but' 3-7Kb. Some of these big photos must take ages for the dial-up folks to load. I seem to recall a suggested size of 30-50Kb [from old board days]; some of these [on the thread] are many times that.
Did you try a PM to SwePeter, Chris?
...yet another earmark....
chris

eh, I figured it out . . it's a lot of extra work, but I think it would be worth it.
chris
Jan 10 2005, 05:09 AM
You have to first up load 2 different sized pictures, one regular and one the size of how big you want the thumbnail ( his are 160x120 pixels ) then just put the address of the small picture as the hyperlink to the big picture.
I'm just a chimp at the keyboard, parroting others...hyperlink?
First, do they have to be loaded at the same location? The last few above, I loaded the big pic on Joel Sims' site. On "my" [PPA] sites, I just use a thumbnail, and get there that way.
After the two sizes are loaded, how do I do the magic?
...can you tell me slo-ly?

Nice, it works! I tried typing out the code to do it but since it's a url, it just hyperlinks the code instead of actually listing it out. um . . an easy way to learn how to do it is just quote my last post, then insert your pic address over mine. . . .
In your example, Pic #1 is the larger, and Pic #2 is the thumbnail, which is contained within the "[image]" bracketting. I don't know if I can do that "from scratch", but I'm going to save that code as a textfile, and try subsituting some photos of my own.
...in the morning. It must be 3 AM in Dairyland, Mr. #6; how come you're up?!? :o
chris
Jan 10 2005, 06:01 AM
Well that's how I figured it out, I just copied his and re-typed it. Took a little work at first, but I got it down now.
I don't go back to school until the 18th, I'm still on break. I've been staying up till around 5am every morning. It's going to be hard to switch back to school time next week :(
