Well, well, well, we're back in the saddle again!
Man, the Live Oak Summer Open is such a special event to me. It was great to be part of the 1st ever 2-day PDGA Sanctioned event at one of the best courses in Texas with the most supportive City staff working for us last year.
I'm proud to announce that HCF is back on track and that the 2nd Annual Live Oak Summer Open is back on our schedule.
The details are just now coming together, but here's what I know so far.
July 24th-25th
4 Rounds of 18 holes on two 18 hole layouts
HCF Flex Dubs Friday 7/23 from Noon to 5 p.m.-ish :)
HCF $100 "Where's My Red Wildcat" Distance Challenge
No golf carts this year - Sorry
As for other items of interest, I should be announcing a hotel deal soon. Hopefully we'll have the same deal for lunch we had last year. Look for there to be free adult refreshments again. The famous HCF Raffle 'O Wonder will once again be in place.
And, one more little item of interest:
THE ISLAND HOLE WILL BE BACK! (insert evil laugh sound here)
Okay, much more to come soon.
Its great to be back and I can't wait for THE LOSO!!!
As usual...STAY TUNED! :D
Is this going to be a sanctioned tournament?
Gary, yes, it will be a sanctioned event. I'm not quite sure what tier it will be as of yet. That's what I'm working on right now.
With the changes in sanctioning this year, last year's B's are equivilent to this year's C's.
I'm leaning toward C. I've never taken my 15%-25% that the PDGA allows out of payout to pay for tourney expenses (15% for B and 25% for C) but without it, its difficult to do a mandatory players pack.
We've always had stuff to give away and money to add to payout, without it being mandated or coming out of what our players get. We'll see, but the smart money is on a C-tier. I have no problems with the sanctioning terms, but C's just seem to work best for me now, since they're virtually identical to what we did for B's last year.
As for everything else, there should be no changes from the 5 B-tiers I ran last year. Added money, lunch available, great payout and free stuff. Those will always be some of the hallmarks of an HCF event, regardless of tier.
One more item of note, regarding the PDGA. One Am player, without a PDGA # or a current membership (either), who finishes the highest in their division, will be awarded a PDGA Am Membership, sponsored by HCF.
I need to take some squids to see Harry Potter now, but I'll be back on here later today with more info.

allright back on track!!! whatwas the turnout last year??
If you can get it to be a B tier you might get more people to travel down to play.
Efrain, here's the stats and results from last year.
1st Annual Live Oak Summer Open results (http://www.pdga.com/schedule/event.php?TournID=3719)
HOPE to be able to go, wont know till much closer to then, of course.... :(
Check your PM's Cong, my friend. You just ran out of excuses. Hahaha! :)
Hopefully by early next week I'll have info on a Hotel Deal.
All the registration info just got sent to that redneck Ben Poole, who except for being a member of Team Rebeloseshun, is a pretty good guy. He also runs a little service you may have heard of. Its called titleDISC.com! :D
With the success of last year's event and the large number of people who have now placed this on their calendars as an annual "can't miss" event, we're sure to have a big field. Please make all our lives easier and register early on titleDISC.
The sanctioning agreement has also been sent to the PDGA and we will be a Sanctioned PDGA C-tier tour event.
I hope people have come to trust HCF well enough by now to know that when I say the value of the event that you as players will receive in our C-tiers is identical to what you would have experienced at all of our B-tiers last year, they believe me.
There will be money added to both Pro and Am divisions, special activities (including the $100 "Where's My Red Wildcat" Distance Throw-off), lunch on the course both days and the return of the Famous HCF Raffle 'O Wonder.
No matter where you live in Texas, or anywhere else for that matter, this will be a not-to-be-missed event that weekend to play in. I know the Texas schedule (especially) is so crowded that you can't swing a stick without hitting a weekend with multiple events these days. I support Brian Mace and his Games of Texas event, once again sharing a weekend with LOSO, and wish him and his players the best. Between these two events, if your not playing tournament golf that weekend in Texas, you're missing out big time.
There's much, much more to come over the next week so, as usual...STAY TUNED! :D
(God, its good to be back with a good schedule of events to promote...and no, I won't be playing.)
Check your PM's Cong, my friend. You just ran out of excuses. Hahaha! :)
<font color="red"> Done </font>
(including the $100 "Where's My Red Wildcat" Distance Throw-off)
While I find this Hilarious, I wonder if Seehorse will.....
LMAO.....
:D
I asked C-dub yesterday about it, but evidently he still hasn't seen it. Or, he really doesn't think its funny.
C-dub, luv ya bro. :D
Below is a 1st draft list of those who have already stepped up with offers of sponsorship which run the gamut from added cash to merchandise for the World Famous HCF Raffle 'O Wonder. :)
Circle R, Wimberley
Live Oak Disc Golf Alliance(LODGA)
ZiegenLight Texas 10 Charity Tour
Lone Star Disc Golf Alliance (LSDGA)
Arlignton Disc Golf Association (ADGA)
Third Coast Disc Golf Club (Corpus Christi)
There are several more folks that I'll be calling, but if you'd like to be a part of this great event, and have your banner/logo displayed all weekend at tourney HQ, be a part of the promotional efforts for the event or generally be associated with a great PDGA tournament, I encourage you to contact me at 830-385-9682 or email me at mark@hillcountryflyers.com

add the Dragons to your list of sponsorship in some form. and yes the $100 wildcat contest should be a GOOD ONE. :)
Thanks to the Dragons. Vinnie had also said that he would beat the LOSO drum for us. Thanks to both of you guys and to ROUND ROOOOCK. You guys have always stepped up for HCF and its appreciated.
And thanks for your good sense of humor C-dub. :) BTW, for those who are curious about the "Where's My Red Wildcat Distance Competition," its free to all the paid LOSO participants and the $100 prize is sponsored by HCF.
Been burning up the phone lines for LOSO today. Should have something new to report to everyone on a couple of different topics soon.
If y'all remember, this was one of the most fun and talked about events last summer. I'd love to see it grow into one of the biggest events in the state. The City of Live Oak deserves that, for all the support they give our sport and all the tournaments that take place there.

The ZT10 Tour is very happy to support this event but I just have one question. How do you spell the Z word? :D
Looking forward to this one as a player. Now I just have to find a caddie as for some stupid reason the PDGA won't allow golf carts.
Mark, please don't forget I like my steak well done.
Thanks
Chris
Thanks for the support mate, but I'm not sure what you're talking about?
You want your hole assignment? I have a special one planned just for you. ;)

Last year's LOSO was a great event. HCF, the City of Live Oak, and the players made it happen. Kat and I had fun and expect more of the same this year. Can't wait to finally play the long tees... ;)
Do we have to throw a Red Wildcat for the distance competition?
<font size=1>The preceding message was not a paid endorsement paid for by Hill Country Flyers, but was coerced via PM in the form of not so subtle hints. Any resemblance of this message to a shameless plug is in fact legitimate, although I'll deny it outright in public. The fun mentioned in the message actually did happen and is expected to happen again. Mark Atwood still has no game and is going back to TDing to protect the innocent from witnessing the spectacle of his "playing."</font>

You're more than welcome Dave, this is a very special event to me and I'm glad to be back in the saddle for it.
I see you found the thread. Nice work. :)
whats up rev. Hopefully i am back in texas in time to play this event.
I hope so too, CEVG. :)
Man, I hate when the board goes down like that. Throws my world into chaos. :D
Should have some stuff to get out later on registration and lodging. Ben at titleDISC said yesterday that he'd get this up soon.
I also have added a few sponsors since yesterday's list and will be posting an updated sponsors list this evening.
...STAY TUNED! :D
By the way, The Promoters of the Live Oak Summer Open support Houston Disc Golf and all their players and organizers.
<font size=1>Whew, that was close.</font>
Hi All,
I've been told that we'll know something about our food sponsor by the end of the week, but as anyone who remembers how great our lunches were out there last year can tell you, if its the same deal we had it will be both a good value and a great meal.
Still working on accomodations, but that will come together in the next couple of days. At least we have a few options available to us this time around. :)
Still talking to folks who want to be on board for sponsorship and there could be some positive changes in this event as a result. I know that's a little cryptic, but be patient. :)
Here's our current sponsor list:
Circle R, Wimberley
Live Oak Disc Golf Alliance(LODGA)
ZiegenLight Texas 10 Charity Tour
Lone Star Disc Golf Alliance (LSDGA)
Arlignton Disc Golf Association (ADGA)

;)
Good Morning from LOSO HQ!
Here's some updated news for y'all on what promises to be one of the most fun 2-day sanctioned events you'll play all summer.
"Houston, we have FOOD!"
For those who were there and remember the great meals we had at the course last year, and those who look forward to some more great grub at LOSO '04, I'm proud to announce that Texas Roadhouse is back on board. They will be bringing their rockin' cook trailer set-up out to the course again and will be serving great food for just $5/plate, like last year. If memory serves me correctly we had a healthier type entree (Grilled Chicken breasts, etc.) with veggie sides on Saturday, with awesome burgers and dogs on Sunday. This will be the same menu for '04. Texas Roadhouse does a lot of great work with events in the Live Oak community, including disc golf, and is proud to be along for the LOSO this year. When you're in town, be sure to enjoy the food and great atmosphere of their Live Oak Location (http://roadhouse.know-where.com/roadhouse/cgi/site?site=00085&address=), at 13830 IH 35 North and call ahead at 210-967-4998. Tell 'em you're a disc golfer. They'll appreciate it and so will we. :)
"Get thee to titleDISC"
The 2nd Annual Live Oak Summer Open is now live on titleDISC (http://titledisc.com/Events/LiveOakSummerOpen.php) for pre-registration. As you know, this is the single best way to make sure you're in, make your tournament staff member's lives easier and have a hassle free Saturday morning while you warm-up and see the great courses in Live Oak City Park. Ben Poole and titleDISC, are great supporters of disc golf everywhere and continue to offer a great service to tournaments and players alike. Thanks Ben.
(Thanks and apologies to NASA and Brian Schmidt for the quote thefts above.)
Hotel info should be coming down the pipe today, as I've already been on the phone this morning regarding our accomodations.
More sponsor news is also on its way and there may be a little surprise involved for the event and our players as part of that...shhhh
As usual...STAY TUNED! :D

"Houston, we have FOOD!"
We are very supportive of Texas Roadhouse. :D
Wow...Four rounds of 18! That is gonna wear my ***** out! This course always looks good, but with all the rain we just got, i bet the course will be close to looking the best it ever has!!
Can't wait! So who is comin??
Hey Mark if I go what time do you think everyone will hit the road back. It's a long drive from L-Town but it is well worth it for those courses....my vacation time is drying up on me. :(
Well, with no players meeting on Sunday and likely an earlier start to the day, I wouldn't think you'd have a problem being home in time for a reasonable bedtime. ;)
Seriously, I can't nail it down for you, but I wouldn't think we'd run late. I'll try to remember or find where its written what time we got out of there last year, but if I remember even I got home at a reasonable time. And, I stayed well after everyone else had left.
Congrats to John Eaves for winning the free tourney stamped disc for being the 1st one to preregister. It pays to sign up early for HCF events! :)
So has anyone guessed what this little "sponsor related" surprise is yet? Details tomorrow, I hope. :)

I know but I don't count :D I just got home from install if you're wondering why the hell I'm posting at 3:30AM :(
Well, I promised yall a little surprise related to sponsorship. My reputation as a putter may be questionable, but when I promise a surprise, I deliver.
Thanks to the offers from several people to help rustle up the needed sponsorship, and a little bit of reaching out by yours truly, the 2nd Annual Live Oak Summer Open will now be a B-tier PDGA Event!
What this means is a minimum of $500 added to the Pro purse and a $10 value Players Pack for all Ams. At the rate were going, that minimum could be just the beginning, and there will be added cash to the Am divisions as well. Thanks to all the folks who stepped up to help us make this happen. Theres quite a few folks and groups to thank, and I will list them all soon.
Registrations are live at titleDISC, so dont wait. This event should well surpass the field we had last year, which at 99 for a first year event competing against an Am Worlds within an easy drive, was not too shabby. :D Guru has told me that this is the only sanctioned event on the schedule for that weekend so make your plans and no excuses!
Heres a few other details.
A free PDGA membership will be given away by HCF to the highest finishing Am player without a current membership.
A free LOSO entry will be given away by the LODGA at their Live Oak Wednesday mini on June 30th. This will be done by a CTP throw off.
The Wheres My Red Wildcat Distance Competition will take place immediately following the 4th round on Sunday, at the pavilion by #1. There is a $100 prize sponsored by HCF for the winner and all paid participants of the LOSO are eligible to compete.
The merchandise for the Famous HCF Raffle O Wonder is pouring in. For only the cost of a $1 raffle ticket, you could walk away with some pretty cool stuff.
Please welcome our newest merchandise sponsor, Discichick! If you are a disc golfing gal or a guy looking to score some truly cool items for your discin' lady, Discichick has the stuff you need. Contact Danielle Vargas for more info. Thanks, Nelle!
Theres much more info coming, so, as usualSTAY TUNED! :D

Yes C-dub, but that was the entry fee before. No changes in entry fees will result from this change in tier status.
All our Evolution Series events last year and so far this year have had the same entry fees across the board, including the Flying Solo Memorial which was a C-tier.
Pro Divisions - $65
Advanced Divisions - $45
Intermediate Divisions - $35
Recreational Divisions - $25
Ace Pots - $5
Two days and 4 rounds of golf at Live Oak - Priceless!

oh- you musta burned your eyeballs!
Yep. Island hole will be takin plastic!
Having a fried home PC and being here on this slow AOL using, disconnecting one in the Temple Office is making me nuts. I have LOSO work to do!
Yes, the Infamous Island Hole, #4 on the Lake Course, will be in effect and offering everything from birdies to the occasional quad circle 8 or higher. ;)
Not sure what Nix is talking about though, it won't actually take your plastic. You can walk outside that rope to retrieve your discs Josh, just don't throw 'em there if you can help it. :)
Its just an easy little shot anyway, why does everyone get so skeert of it? ;)
Should have a menu from Texas Roadhouse soon, as they said they are working on finalizing one for us for both days. I'd also like to get everyone to tell them how much we appreciate their support since they have offered to put together bags with coupons and Texas Roadhouse goodies for all our players too. Winners will be posted sometime Saturday (by lunch) and paid out after that. If you have not picked up your Dubs payout by the time we pack up on Sunday, well, just do it, okay? :)
Just got off the lodging call I'd been waiting on, but I'm not satisfied with the rate. I'm contacting others right now and hope to have something more acceptable by day's end.
Also, hope to have the tourney page up and running today on this here website with the players list of those registered so far (about a dozen, I believe). Yes I am going to the party. Who said there were no trophies?
Did I say something about no trophies? I was just wondering what brought it up?
Anyway, last year for some of our events, we gave out color stamped trophy discs with division name on them for first place winniers. In Vic last year we gave out those ceramic trophies for 1st-3rd in all divisions.
The trouble with trophies, to answer your question, is simply finance. They are expensive, should really be pre-ordered, can be over-ordered unless you have a full pre-reg field, etc.
I love trophies and I love to give them out. I'm working on something to help provide them for LOSO, but nothing's certain on that yet.
Input is always appreciated though. :)

Don't worry Mark I will take a date with the Red Bull girl as my prize. The 1st place cash will help pay for dinner. :D
Can't wait for this tournament, it's close to the Outback for me. 4 rounds at Live Oak is awesome.

Ironically Team Billybob member Mark Vargas took the CTP last night. Don't thank me, Lady Nelle, thank the good folks of the LODGA. Heck, thank yourself while you're at it. :)

Just a note to pass along.
There will be a new special edition item introduced at the Live Oak Summer Open to raise a little more (well actually a good bit more) money for the Chance Ware College Fund. This is the same fund that the Flying Solo Memorial benefitted.
The actual item is top secret and as such I can not describe it until it is unveiled at the players meeting. I just want to get the word out so players can plan to bring their $10 to the players meeting.
At least $6 of every $10 will go directly to the charity. If we are able to get matching funds, that could climb to $12 out of every $10.
Please continue to show your support of HCF and the Chance Fund.

One thing I'd like to add is that these items will not be available until LOSO, except for the select few that preorder. In a top secret matter such as this, it's hard to preorder what you can't see. After LOSO, we expect to have many more to sell, and at that point I will make them available on the web. We have a couple of partners in this, one of whom will be adding these items to his Fly Mart table at Worlds in Des Moines this year. A select few of you know what we're talking about, and please don't let the cat out of the bag. just keep the secret for 2 more weeks and the whole DG community can find out.
If you want to be one of the first to own one, and one of the first to learn the secret, come on down to LOSO.

These items will be unveiled during Saturday's players' meeting, and will be available all weekend from myself and Mr. Gary Duke. gnduke
Jul 19 2004, 03:50 PM
This is a motovational tool that will fit into a bread box, but would need a large pocket to be carried comfortably in a pocket. I will easily fit in the side pockets of most tour bags, and is not very heavy.
If your game is slipping, just refer to the device, and it should offer enough motovation to get your game moving back in the right direction.

So, to add to the fun of this whole idea....
First person to guess what the "motivational tool" is gets a free one. But WAIT! there are conditions to this contest:
1.) You may only guess by PM to me. Any guesses posted in public forum will be completely ignored by myself and Mr. Duke.
2.) You cannot already know what it is, (duh!)
3.) The first person who guesses correctly (judged by PM date and time) will receive one free "motivational tool". If another person subsequently guesses corectly, but is more specific (by my judgement) they will also receive one free. Winnings to be paid out at the Saturday Player's meeting of LOSO. NOTE: you MUST be present at this year's LOSO to receive winnings. If you cannot be present, you cannot win :( but you can still buy one :)
4.) Once a correct guess has been made, I will notify the board. If the winner discloses the identity of the item, he or she will forfeit all winnings and be publicly flogged.
5.) anyone who already knows the identity of the "motivational tool" and discloses it in public forum (or in private) will also be publicly flogged. Remember... I know who you are
So... PM me your ideas and win a *@#^#$^ [Edited for content]
P.S. remember this is for fun and for a good charity. Please don't be an arse and spoil it for everyone :)

this is true, but garry wats misspelled my name :) come find me at the players' meeting (we'll be making the "motivational tool" announcement) and I'll take care of it.
Hi all,
Sorry I've been inundated with real life crap over the last several days. I hope you didn't think I was disappearing on ya. :)
Aaaaaaaaaanyway, players list should be up this afternoon and the titleDISC entries are rolling in hot and heavy over the last 2 days. Get yours in now before the cutoff (I think Thursday, but could be tomorrow, I'll check with Ben).
As for hotel deals, I'm hearing from folks that that $70 rate at the Topperwein LaQuinta is actually a pretty good deal compared to what else is out there for this weekend in that area. If you can do the Priceline thing, I'd recommend it.
More later, so as usual...STAY TUNED! :D

I don't have a problem with hitting the chains, it's staying in the basket below the chains that I have a problem with.

Yes Chris there is a Wednesday mini but this week it was changed to Monday because Brian will be out of town. And we alternate between UC and Live Oak. Next week it will be in Live Oak. If you were thinking about making it down Wednesday you still can. There will be some guys playing the LOSO format for some $$$$$$$. So if your not scared come on down. :D

BTW, I just booked the Motel6 in East San Antonio (less than 12 miles from the course) for 41.99+tax for Fri. and Sat., and 29.99+tax for Sun. night. pretty good deal, i think.
