Discgolfers, sorry about the rain Saturday. Please mark your calendar for this Saturday the 30th of October. We will try again to have our player appreciation/Halloween mini. If you are not playing in San Antonio come to Pease for fun and compimentary cold beverages after the round. The mini will play as it always does...teeing off at 10:00am. Halloween costumes are encouraged. Tuesdays mini is the last 5:00pm tee off before we go to 4:00pm for the winter.
Thanks for the support this Fall, D.Moody
I am not understanding why the mini is starting earlier for the winter. After we roll the clocks back there will be an extra hour of light and just when the 9-5 ers have a break to start making the minis again, you change the time to even earlier. We do know " Fall back and Spring forward right?"

Fall back = move the clock back 1 hour.
You get to work at 8:00am, which was 9:00am the day before. You get off of work at 5:00pm, which was 6:00pm the day before. The sun sets at 6:15pm, which was 7:15pm the day before. Falling back=less daylight. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

CW - the Saturday Mini is currently 10 and 5. More than likely we will keep the 5 CTP ace on Sat as players seem to enjoy it. The reason for the poll on the 5 for pro's is to see if that might bring more fun and less aggression to the mini. The last few weeks have been fine but there has been a rash of agro b.s. in the last few months. I would like to see a return to a more communal feeling at the minis at Pease. Thanks for the input. She'll be there.
Read the following and then put in your 2 cents:
Mike and I have considered using an 18 hole layout Saturday. We would have hole #1 lengthened using #2's pin, this would give us 6 placements for #1. Then we would eliminate #8 and #9 making a tee down below the street level(south of 24th street bridge)using all of #9 and #10's pin positions. This would give us a face lift to the old 18 while still playing the new holes in the woods. The idea would be to test it out and see how players feel about it.
disctance00
Dec 15 2004, 11:18 AM
I always thought it would be cool to play from 1's teebox to 2's pin. I hope you do it.
scoop
Dec 15 2004, 12:22 PM
Dave...
Would love to play #1 tee - to - #2 basket (especially if the basket is in the long position to the right closest to the bridge). Would there be any mandos?
I'd hate to see #9 gone, though, as it's one of my favorite holes on the course (love the elevated tee-box).
Also, if you elminate #8 and #9, and use #10's position, wouldn't you also effectively be eliminating #10? (other wise you'd have players teeing from Alt 8 to #10 basket, while other players concurrently would be teening from #10 to #10 basket).
I would be for eliminating #8 all together though, and simply use one of the hill holes (15-17) as a replacement.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My 18-hole suggestion would be:
1 (#1 tee-#2 basket), 2-6 (#3-#7 regular play), (skip #8), 7 (#9 basket to #10 short pin), (skip #10), 8-17 (#11-#20 regular play), 18 (alt tee for #21 up on top of creek near the #12 long pin placement to #21 basket).
Now, that would be a fun 18 holes.
Not sure about the mando Rooster. We would judge that based on continued danger for the pedestrians. Don't worry about losing #9 altogether... We can use the #9 tee and all the pin positions for #9 and #10 instead of teeing down below. The whole idea is to work through some possibilities that take us back to 18 and eliminate a few danger spots(#10 tee). If we did this permanent we would close off the unused tees.
disctance00
Dec 15 2004, 01:04 PM
There really wouldn't be a need for a mando would there?
There really wouldn't be a need for a mando would there?
The only reason for the continued mando would be...
For example: If a roller or air shot turns over and hits the
cedar by the old #2 tee that could leave the player with the choice to throw a hyzer over the trail(the reason the mando exists). We'll see but I guess that this could happen often

The big dogs finished on this hole layout at Outlaws. It was kick [*****] to watch. Every so often I'll play that hole setup if there is nobody in front of me on #21.
Very fun hole going over the creek. Just gotta make sure the jogging path is well clear before you throw.
It is fun to throw off of the cliff for the last hole. We regularly used that tee on casual rounds when the course was only 12 holes. We will not be using that tee Saturday though, it would interfere with other holes and the over the trail deal is not real smart. The greenskeepers meeting went well yesterday and the course will be ready early Sat. morn.
How long has it been since the course was only 12 holes?
1990 or 91. The course went from 12 to 15 to 18 pretty quick. The original 12 were installed by Kevin Roberts in 1989. Why are there blank pages ahead of this page on this thread?

I thought you guys could spread the word to any ladies in your area that the Ladies Of Live Oak will be giving away a PDGA membership this Saturday 1-8-05 in Live Oak. We will play a full round of 18 holes starting at 12:30. We meet at hole 28 at the picnic table. I would love to see some girls from out of town come on down to play with us and try to win the membership. Spread the word.
Thanks,

We did have a very small group play yesterday (thanks Joel for running the mini-mini).
We only had four players in Advanced (Ric won...again. Todd and I tied for second). I think there were 3 AMs (did you win Metal?). Not sure who won Pro, but there were at least 7 players.
Joel won the CTP for the Ace Pot by sinking his shot from about 110'.
ETA: Todd, I found your Flash on #3. I'll give it to Moody next time I'm out at the park (probably not till next Tuesday)

O.K. - The first unofficial mini was held Tuesday aftrnoon thanks to Joel stepping up. Here are the scores from my card...Dagon canned 2 birdies in a row to finish the 18 holes at -4. I believe both Joel & AK shot -2 and I followed with a -1 (with 2 circle 5's )
Alex Downs bogied his last hole (#1) to tye Dagon at -4. I'm not sure what the other two scores on his card were.
Good luck everyone in 2005!
Must have been windy Tuesday evening. We'll look to encourage lower score next Tuesday with a beautiful sunny day with temps in the low 70's :). If your not in the tag tourney down at Searight make sure to check out the Pease mini on Saturday. Tee at 10:00am!

After playing the famous Tuesday Pease Mini, come over to Waterloo Ice House on W. 38th & Medical Parkway for the Waterloo Disc Golf Club meeting. Starts at 7pm, so plenty of time to finish the mini, hang around a little, and then come for some food, drink, and disc golf stuff.
We have some nice door prizes to give away too :D
Yes indeed, come to the Waterloo Ice House after the Pease Mini for an extended discgolf happyhour and Waterloo General Meeting. The folks have been nice to us and now its time to show up and be counted.

Dog Owner alert.
If you take your dog to any austin disc golf course, watch them when they are off a leash. I've been informed that Austin animal control is beginning to patrol disc golf courses specifically targeting disc golfers. Two golfers that I know of have already been popped with leash law violations, one at searight and one at pease, which happened during the mini tonight. FYI

We will be having the Pease mini Saturday morning. You will be able to make the Waterloo Ice Bowl as we will be starting on time. Tee off at 10:00am sharp. Do not play the CTP ace at the mini if you want to make the Ice Bowl! Below I have copied Gordo's info for the Ice Bowl. Enjoy a cool weekend of discgolf and support Waterloooooooooooooo!
WATERLOO DISC GOLF CLUBS
5TH ANNUAL ICE BOWL
Saturday February 5, 2005
Zilker Park Disc Golf Course (18 Hole Setup)
Signup Begins at 11:00 am
(at Polo Picnic Tables, by hole #1 of the north course)
Start at 1:00pm
As many of you probably know, the Ice Bowl was started a number of years ago to have a day of disc golf solidarity in the gloom of winter (well, ok it isn't usually THAT gloomy around here, but you get the idea). Every year, clubs and people from around the world gather together to help fight hunger within their communities and to have a day of fun playing disc golf no matter what the weather.
The rules of the Ice Bowl are simple: 1) Under no circumstances can an Ice Bowl be postponed or cancelled; 2) No wimps or whiners allowed; 3) There are no excuses for not attending!
We will be raising money and food for the Capital Area Food Bank. The entry fee is $13 and 2 cans of food (or $15 and no food). For that $13, you will receive either an Ice Bowl Disc and Mini or an Ice Bowl T-Shirt (supplies of both are limited - first come first choice; we will also have long-sleeve shirts, but there is an extra $3 fee for them; and some Z and Champion plastic for an extra $6). After that, we are playing for fun!!! All proceeds will go directly to the charity.
We will also have some CTP contests and maybe some other fun stuff. The whole idea is to have a great time while helping others out who really need it. If you have anything you would like to donate as CTP prizes, please let us know. Anything we receive, we will give away!
For more information about the Ice Bowl or about the club in general, please call Gordon Maxim-Kelley at (512) 858-0119, Mark McCrimmon at 478-1860, Dan Mueller at 293-7592, or Sheldon Parker at 416-1192. You can also email the club at
[email protected] or check out our website: www.austindiscgolf.org. (http://www.austindiscgolf.org.)

I think it was Daniel that hit the ace...it was a skip on #7 (in the long anyhyzer position near the bridge).
Ric Johnson is on a tear in ADV, winning again (-5). He had a bogie-free round going until our final hole (also #7). His putt for 2 went long and down the hill near the first concrete piling. He missed is three putt for his only bogie of the round.
Kyle G. was second in Advanced, with I think a -1.

I stopped by Pease to pick up my wedding ring, which was found by Mike Owens during the Red Rock Show. I'd been running around without my ring for 2 days, and just felt out of sorts.
Put the ring on, and then shot my best round at Pease (-4) to win a small Advanced field.
I think Joel Kelly split Open with a -5...after somebody picked up and walked off with his parked disc that he had just thrown on #14 (they found the girl and her boyfriend a few holes later...throwing a distinctly dyed Joel disc...)
Phillip hit the only ace on #7.
