Time to find a good trash can filled park and have a tournament. Practice round mandatory. Shouldn't be a big deal since the whole goal is to throw garbage away. Could even call if community service. "We walked around and threw away 6 cases of beer cans today at the park." Just fail to mention you caused the mess too.
He's not talking about disc's, he's talking about cargo room, which the revo bags can't hold a candle to a G-way tour bag when i comes to that.
Revolution should just come out with the Pimp Sack in honor of their #1 "sales rep". :D:p
I happen to know an Innova Team Champion member that prefers the Gateway backpack to anything else.

The Gateway Tour bag is like a trunk of a car. It holds so much stuff. I think the Revolution bag is a little better looking design and they are both very durable.
You can't go wrong with a Revolution or a Gateway bag.

Well Steve, I know you're just dying for me to respond to this. No telling what would have given me that idea. As a matter of fact I was going to respond last night after I read all the other new posts. Then I decided I was hungry and left my computer on while I went to get something to eat. When I got back, this was the PM I had recieved.
You going to respond to my post or are you just going to ignore it because i made you look like a jackass
Since you just couldn't wait for a response, I figured it would do you good to stew for a day or so.
I carry a Gateway Tour bag. It's my second one as a matter of fact. I won my first one when Stokley came to town running the Discraft Doubles the summer of '97. I replaced it as my main bag back in '03 (I think) with another Gateway tour bag. There was nothing seriously wrong with it but it was a little faded and a couple of the seams were beginning to fray. I still use it as my glow bag. It holds all my glow discs and a soft sided six pack cooler inside (I play glow at a private course so I can play discs and drink beer without upsetting any park guys or cops).
I don't use Quads. I had a pair of the older ones but they ripped after about a year of use. I have seen some of the newer ones and it looks like they have reinforced them to solve that problem but I'm not in a hurry to buy another pair after my first ones blew out. I have a pair of used GolfPak straps that I traded for and they work just fine. I will agree that they aren't as comfortable as Quads but why spend the money to buy a product that I don't trust after my earlier experience.
The reason for my earlier post wasn't to bust on Revolution, they make good bags as well, but it was in response to your childish badgering of Lowe when he was asking about a Discraft bag. Ask about a Discraft bag and here comes Pimp...
Save yourself the time and effort and frustration of buying a bag that you wont like or thats not going to hold up and buy a Revolution bag. This will be the one and only bag you will ever have to buy unless of course you want 2 bags or you cut this one with a chainsaw. If you spend the 150 right from the start and get the Carolina Team bag with quadshocks you wont EVER have to worry about a bag again. I have carried 3 or 4 different bag before my Revolution and I will tell you that i will NEVER carry another bag as long as i play disc golf.
Buy Revolution and you will not regret it. Plus on the new Rev bags you can hook the quads up how they were meant to be hooked up
and
Whats wrong with the Revolution Club bag???
and also
What about the Revolution Mini???
This isn't the first time that you've done things like this. It just happened that this time I was in the wrong mood. I think I may also have offended Lowe because of his revival of a very old thread. Lowe, if I did, I do apologize.
I'll go ahead and answer your other thread here too. If I had $200 to spend on a disc bag, I wouldn't have to judging from the length of time my original Gateway bag has lasted. But just supposing that my bag was stolen, or lost in a fire, or abducted by aliens, or whatever what if you can come up with, I'd get...
(dramatic pause)
another Gateway Tour bag. And I'm not sponsored by them or anyone else for that matter. Yeah I realize that Revo is the most popular bag out there. That doesn't matter to me. I'd say for my money that the Gateway bag is the best value. I don't have to have the coolest bag on the course and be like everyone else. It's disc golf not a fashion show. All I need is a durable bag that will hold my discs, towel, Gatorade, and cigarettes. But you guys buy what you want. I'm not a rep so I'm not going to suggest anything to anyone but will share my own experiences when asked to.
This is a bit off subject but Rodney I know what you are saying about the Quad shocks. The first ones seemed to rip a little quick for my taste but I bought some of the new ones and they are much better. Looks like they will be able to make it through at the very least a year of heavy use before ripping.
Rodney Gilmore
Feb 24 2005, 12:26 AM
I agree the newer Quads look more durable. I know my old Quads were quite comfortable while they lasted. But hey, my straps are doing fine, they will probably be replaced by some Quads when these die but the price was right for the ones I have right now. All I gave was 2 discs I wasn't throwing and were just taking up space in a box. I figured I didn't have anything to lose.

I love my Gateway Backpack bag. It is one of the older versions. I need to fix one thing though. One of the PVC pipes has come out of the frame. But that is easily fixed....i just need to get some PVC pipe bond/glue.
Ok..I lied. There is one more thing I don't like and that is the front putter pouch. The zippers unzip too easily if there are 2 putters in there and there has been a time or two that my putters have fallen out the bag when I go to pick it up off of the ground.

How bout you buy a nice 70 dollar bag and spend the rest of the money on some new discs thats how my thinking would go.
cbdiscpimp
Feb 24 2005, 12:39 PM
The problem with that thinking is your 70 dollar bag will most likely fall apart in a year then your going to have to spend another 70 to either get the same bag or you make choose to buy a Revolution and then youll spend 115. Either way you just spent more then it would cost you to buy a Revolution in the first place.
I have a new theory. I think Revolution is the best and so do alot of other people but from this thread im going to say the 2nd best bag is the Gateway Tour or the Gateway Backpack but i still reccomend you get the Revolution :D
definitely get the Revolution Carolinia, it's basically indestructable, it's made out of the most durable material any disc golf bad is amde out of, why would you want anything else?

My bag was not an option. Santa Cruz.
while talking with a player from Nashville about bags. He told me that after the bracings in his Revo bag broke (after 3 months), he gutted his Gateway tour bag and put those bracings in his Revo bag. He has had that particular setup for about a year with no damage. Of course you would have to buy two bags to get that combo.

I can attest to the durability of the Gateway bags! I won a Gateway Player bag at Am Worlds in 1998. I carried it for 6 years and did just about everything to a bag that you can imagine (kicking, stomping, covering with pins and patches, running over with a car, dropping off a bridge, lighting it on fire...ok, maybe I am exaggerating a little, but you get the point). The bag is still in great shape, and I still use it when playing some of the short, dusty local courses...that is, if I am not carrying my discs in a plastic grocery bag (long story...don't ask).
I am currently using a Gateway backpack bag (that I also won) because I can cram extra towels and discs into it. For the record, I fit 42 discs and two towels into my bag the last time I threw in a field. Also, since the Midwest is in the midst of the spring thaw, I don't care how muddy or wet my bag gets.
When the nice weather rolls around, I will get my Revolution bag out of the closet. I must admit that after spending $100 on a bag, I have become much better about not kicking my bag after the occasional bad shot!
By bracings do you mean internal frame? You can go to your local Lowes or Home Depo and find the material you need to make bracings.

Ya I'll never live that one down. It was a special hole at our halloween tourney. There was about a 20 foot ring around the basket you had to land your disc in or else it was OB and you had to rethrow from the tee. I emptied a bag and a half. LOL. I just couldn't seem to get it. Did in practice on like 7 out of 10 throws, but then coudln't in the round. It was pretty comical.

Yeah getting a bigger bag helped me with my temper. I used to have a small 8 disc practice bag until I moved up to a Innova Tour bag. Now I carry 25 discs. During a round where I threw into unnavigatable shule for the second time on the same hole, I kicked my bag square in the middle. Needless to say I broke my toe nail in half, but have yet to kick my bag again.

Back to the thread topic. Just played my first round with my new Carolina Bag. Love it so far. And the dual Drink Holders rocks. I could bring my water and another beverage with. What a great bag, and the frame works great keeping all your discs upright.
I love it.

I leaning heavily toward buying a Revolution bag. I guess Pimp is pretty persuasive. Nah, actually the vast number of positive comments and loyal support make me think that I can't go wrong.
I once saw a Revolution bag (I think it was the old "Casual") but I didn't like how you had to tuck in the flap and it seemed like a hassle when discs were in the bag. I'm just used to rolling up the top flap. Does this ever bother anybody else?

Bigg_Pimp_le bought his Carolina bag at Worlds last year, when they were first available. He also lives in a snowbound state, so, for him it may be that he uses the bag for only 9 months of the year, but honestly, he probably USES more than most, as he's constantly traveling to play tournaments. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
Lowe.
Buy a Santa Cruz. Extremely durable, plus you can carry ice cold Lone Star beer!
I have the Revolution club bag, and it is more than I'll ever need. Sometimes I wish that the drink holder was a little more sturdy like on the Texas bag, but it is still really nice, and holds a lot. I carry a lot of drivers, and it holds way more than the 12-14 it says it does.

revolution, or gateway. Both are amazing.
I'd go with revolution, better quality. If you only want to purchase one bag and have no problems and no complaints, then revolution is the way to go.
By the way, Anyone have any deals on the revolution team bag in Hot Pink? I want to get a bag for the girlfriend, and since she has finally decided to take it seriously, i figured I should reward her.
The Revolution is a sweet bag and the quality is very high indeed. However mine is approx. a year and a half old and the frame is starting to wear through the bottom of the bag. Right after I purchased mine I noticed they started to reinforce the bottom with some sort of heavy vinyl which might take care of this problem though.
The same thing that is happening to flick's bag is happening to mine. I still think revolution bags are the best though.

Not to sound like a broker record, but the Revolution bag is the best overall bag out there. They are expensive, but I know a lot of people who have paid $60 for a bag and they are falling apart after a few weeks of use.
I would also recomment getting Phenix Quadshocks for the bag. It is a dual shoulder strap that easily replaces the single strap that will come with the bag. Very comfortable, and makes carrying a bigger bag much easier on your back and shoulders.

The Innova tour bag fell apart on me less than 3 months after I purchased it.......the zippers quit working, the places to put your straps ripped off, and a few other little things. I hear they have redesigned them though.....wish i had waited 3 months to get a good quality one instead of wasting my 60 bucks.
discman, you might want to get with Innova if your bag came apart as you stated. I think it was on the "Ask Dave D." thread in equipment a couple other people had similiar complaints and Dave D. addressed them individually with replacement or credit towards the redesigned bag. You should probably contact him directly through his thread because he does a great job of standing behind his products.
What are some of the opinions on the PDGA bag? It seems to have all the features that the top of line Revo or Gateway have, but I don't know about the quality or materials used.

I've only seen the smaller bags and the materials are close to what they use on smaller Innova bags which is nowhere near as sturdy as the Gateway bag I have.

Exactly, I am now on my 3rd Tour bag since October. First time the strap connectors ripped off, second time stitching fell apart.
What was great about is, Harold and Dave both stood behind their product and replaced my bag free of charge, one time overnighting my bag so I could have it in time for the Bowling Green Am Championship.
What happened to me was I got the last bags of two different design flaws. Terrible luck, but with owners who stand behind something, I cannot help but continue to support Innova. And talk about the ROOM in the tour bag. Come on, you can cram almost 30 discs in this thing. But I only carry 20 because I want room for towels and other stuff. The Revo club bag is a tad smaller, but still a nice bag.
the bottle holder is coming off of my tour bag i got last summer

I've had my PDGA bag for over two years now and it's still going strong. I did find out that the little loops on the front aren't strong enough to clip the front two backpack straps too. They lasted about 4 months before I had to switch to the main loops.
I've been really happy with it, perfect size, goodly amount of pockets, plenty durable, and reasonably priced.

I've been really liking my Gateway Backpack...I'd use it regardless (Gotta support sponsors!!) but it makes the load feel so much lighter, not to mention it holds everything I need and is durable as hell.
In reply to everyone who is talking about the redesigned tour bag with reenforced strap holdings, I purchased one in March, and in May they started ripping. It was a new model red tour bag, and has started falling apart at the threads all over, that is why my vote is going for revolution at this point.
however i have been in contact with Innova, and we are trying to work something out. I love innova, and love the bag in terms of size, and everything, but I guess I have been an unlucky one also.
Revolution all the way. I am on my second bag. My first was great and held up to three years of golf without any big problem. The only problem I had with it was the frame did wear through the bottom (new ones have a stronger bottom) and I could only fit a 32oz. Gatorade in upside down. There was nothing wrong with the bag and I still use it as a backup/glow bag/cart bag. I bought a new Carolina at worlds for the new bottom and being able to carry two 32 oz. bottles. I got 3+ years out of my first bag and still could use it if I wanted too. If you buy one you will not be replacing it like you have to with other bags.
I've had a gateway Backpack bag for about 2 years now.. Aside from it not fitting on my back that well(just never sits right and i can't use the outer pouch for putters) IT has held up veyr nicely. I used to play everyday and it hasn't shown any tearing at all except for one padding of a strap just recently.
I would recommend the other gateway bags over the backpack bag though just on the fact that it isn't comfortable to wear, but it does last.

The "best" really depends on what size bag you want and how much you want to spend.

Sometimes you get what you pay for.
I like quality. Something thats going to last and look cool.
Good luck and hope you find what your looking for !!!!
there is a guy on ebay selling the innova super deluxe bag for 25....i bought one last year and it has been a great bag for a semi-serious golfer
I'm in the market for a new bag and can't decide which to get.
The choices that I am concidering are Gateway Backpack, Santa Cruz, and Innova Tour bag w/ quads. I am leaning towards the Gateway but have yet to see one in person. The Santa Cruz looks almost too big but has some neat features ie cooler, two drink holders. And the Innova because of price.
I wouldn't mind a revolution, but they seem just a little steep after tax and shipping. If anyone has any input or opinions to sway me, I'm all ears.
Thanks,

revolution is where it's at trust me...they have a lifetime guarantee on them.
I would have to go witn revolution as well...
ALthough
I have an older generationg Gateway Backpack(doens't have the inside putter pocket and missing the extra water bottle holder) and it's held up for over 2 years.. I used to play 3-4 rounds a day at least 3-4 days a week and it's held up well.
The only PROBLEM with it is that it isn't comfortable to wear as it never seems to sit quite right on my back, but maybe the new ones are different.. Try asking Shanest or williethekid. they are both sponsored by gateway and i believe both have the newer backpack bags.

I have a backback bag and I like it better than my old revolution one. To me it is very comfortable. Also the tour nag would be a good choice because we just introduced the new G-shocks which are as good if not better than Quads
Just downsized from a big bag to Innovas smallest bag, holds 10 discs, the rounds are easier now without carrying the 40 pound of junk everywhere. I limit myself to 8 discs now to lighten the load:
1 putter not 3, if I lose my putter I deserve it
1 beat X-Press instead of 2. If I lose that I have to anhyzer something else
2 new Orcs, gotta have 2. Hit one tree they are out of the bag.
1 Z plastic disc for rocks and trees so I don't ruin any discs
1 Roc instead of 2
1 super overstable disc like CE Firebird or Monster
1 10 X KC Teebird instead of 2 or 3 like I used to carry.
I'm so slick now with my lightweight bag. Holds only 1 beer though, but has a pocket for the gortex raincoat.

Revolution no doubt.
Love the carolina
: ) :
I have a newer Gateway Backpack bag and it works great. there is only one insulated drink holder, but there's another zippered pouch that might hold a smaller diameter drink (a 12 oz. can or maybe a 20 oz. bottle) if you really want it to. I've had it since this last winter and while I only play a couple of rounds a week it hasn't shown any wear yet. I personally find it comfortable and like how much space is in there. My only complaint is that the divider didn't fit onto the frame, but I really don't want the divider attached anyway, so it isn't an issue for me.
I also like that I could use it as a regular backpack if needed. I doubt I'll ever need it for that, but it's nice to know it's there.
Revo mini has been the best option for me. Its light and like anne said I dont haul around 40 pounds of junk now either.
I will tell you what- I had the Innova Tour bag for about a year, and the side pockets have huge rips where they connect to the main disc holder. Other than that, which is pretty much cosmetic, it held up nice.
But, yesterday I received my Revolution Carolina, and it feels like I am carrying 50% less weight than my Innova. Waaay lighter, and it looks indestructible. Definately worth the extra $40-50 for me.
Thats not all folks. Along with my Revo bag, they sent me a FREE PAIR OF $40 QUADS!!!!!! I don't know if they messed up or I got lucky, but I think it was a little of both. I would reccomend the Carolina all the way.
I just recieved my Carolina bag about a month ago; the rust is a lot nicer than it looks on the website.
The problem with Innova is that you will be replacing it soon; I've owned two of them.
On the weight issue, for some reason, the revolution bag seems lighter than my other bags. I used the bag for a week before my quadshocks came in. It may be the strap that comes with it.
I'm not sure about the Santa Fe bag; read up on it and make sure it is constructed solidly. I saved for 6 months to get my revolution bag, and it was worth it.

I am looking for a bag for about 8-12 discs and I dont want to spend too much. What kind should i ger?
Both Gateway ( http://www.gdstour.com/ ) and Revolution ( http://www.discgolfer.com/ ) are considered to be top quality. If either of them are too expensive, Innova, PDGA and Lightning all make compareable bags.
I've had a lightning bag for a year and it's in good condition. Got it cheap off ebay. If you're only gonna carry 8-12 discs you don't really need a bulletproof bag. Do yourself a favor though and get a mid quality bag so you have a putter pocket, zippered closures and a drink holder.
Ive had one of those small lightning bags for 5 years... it was only like $15, has a drink holder (big enough for a 40oz), zippered compartment and a velcro one on the other side.

I would assume one is for the bottow and the other 2 are for the front and back of the bag but im not sure.
I use an old duffle bag. Holds about 20 discs & has two zippered end compartments. One to keep drinks in, the other for keys/wallet/etc. Cost. $9.95.

Wood dowels and plexi_glass from Home Depot. It helps the bag sit better on your side or back and makes the discs easier to put in and take out and I would say yes it would exstend the overall life of your bag.
They are fairly simple to construct if you have something that will easily cut the plexi_glass

The only bad thing about a water proof bag is if water does get in (driving rain ie Texas States)it stays in.
very interesting point, I had not thought about that, and an accidental cfo spilling in there could cause some issues as well.
You could figure out a way to install a small grommet near the bottom to drain the water. Somewhere inconspicuous that won't allow much water or junk in, but is easy to drain water out. One or two small grommets (what a great word, say it with me, grommet), should be suficient.

Grommet, I do kinda like it! Grommet, Vomit, Grommet, Vomit. Thanks
Revolution is the way to go; I saved for 6 months to get mine. The previous bag I had before that was an Innova Deluxe. The sections you mention with the velcro are for making customized "slots". Like for a putter or something.
My Deluxe bag did not last very long. The bottom corner developed a hole very quick. Mine did not have the plastic yes to attach a revolution bag to since it was an older bag. It does hold its shape though.
As far as Lighting, my gf is using the lightening bag I bought back in 98 or so. They hold up well if you don't over stuff them. Perhaps the frame would make it last longer.
I get the dowel and plexiglass part, but what are you guys using for the part of the frame that covers the dowel, the plastic things with ridges? Isn't this what make the discs stand up?

Aug 26 2005, 02:37 PM
try using corrugated (sp?) plastic sheets for your side walls. That is what revolution uses for their frames. does a pretty good job.
If you can afford it I highly recommend the Revolution bags. I only have one complaint about my carolina edition bag...I'd like the water bottle holders to have a solid bottom instead of a single 1.5" wide canvas strap...my drinks fall out of the bottom all the time!

I agree with you 100% on both points..My Carolina bag is the best bag I have ever had and I have previously owned the Innova Deluxe ( falls apart), PDGA bag (falls apart even worse) and a Gateway Tour bag ( still keep it for backup).
I talked to him about the water bottle holders, but he said there were not any plans to change it anytime soon. I just put a coozie in each end or a towel and most cans will then stay in there...most water bottles or larger seem to do okay by themselves

Aug 26 2005, 02:44 PM
yeah, I've gotten 2 large 32oz bottles to keep int here and they don't fall out, but at really dusty courses (Lake Lewsiville in DFW and Moffit here) the bottles get covered with dirt as they start to sweat...I HATE that. This would be the perfect bag if they would just make that one little change.
My deluxe bag fell apart as well.
As far as the drink holder on the Revolution bag, it works well for a sports drink bottle or large can (24 oz), but it really does not hold a regular 12 oz can. What I do when I'm drinking from a can is I put the can in a coozie; I guess Revolution didn't anticipate us drinking beer at times. I need to get one that says Discraft, Gateway, or something.
My biggest problem in this dry climate is that the sweat from the bottle mixes with the dirt when I set the bag down and forms mud. So my bag is muddy even when its over 90 degrees out. I've tried to cut out a bottom out of hard plastic, but it does not stay (I haven't sown or glued it yet).
My birthday is coming up so I am asking for a real disc golf bag (currently I use an Ebonite bowling ball bag..lol) I want one that holds 10-15 discs, has pockets, a cup holder, a good strap, and one that is durable. Let me know which you think is good, and maybe which websites offer the best deals. Thanks
Let me just tell you what everyone is going to say....
Save up for a Revolution bag. It is worth it.
I personally think my Innova bag has held up well considering how much less it cost...

I would like some instructions on how to build a "base" that I could put at the bottom though.
A lot of people are gonna badmouth this, but I love my lightning "tour" bag...It holds everything I throw, has an insulated water bottle holder, 2 zippered side pockets, a zippered putter pocket, a velcro putter pocket, a mini pocket metal hardware on the very comfortable strap.
Now to why people will bad mouth it...I've heard they don't hold up. I carry far too many discs for me, throw it sometimes after bad throws, when i get tired, I'll drag it along on the ground, it's fallen down the stairs a few times(roommates fault) all of that and not a scratch on it.

Id suggest a Revolution bag myself. They are VERY nice and you dont have to spend an INSANE amount of money to get one, it depends on which one you get....
Gateways are nice too and Ive had a Gateway Tour bag before. The thing I like about the Revolution as opposed to the Gateway (the ones I had/have anyway) are the small zippered compartments for cell phone, wallet, keys, etc. My Gateway didnt have a smaller compartment for that sorta stuff. I had it for about 2-3 years and it ended up ripping but it had ALOT of use....
Good luck with whatever you purchase, although I GUARANTEE you wont be dissappointed with a Revolution bag.
Ok, ripping the dividers out for a 6 pack is a great idea. Although i want to buy a bag that will have the dividers and still allow me to carry necessities. Revolution sounds like a cool bag..discgolfreview.com doesnt have reviews of these bags. Anyone have a good link to buy them or just show what they look like. booya

Gateway makes bags as good as Rev. but cheaper. Gateawy forever!
I have a Gateway player bag that I think is great. It holds 14 discs with plenty of room, and 18-20 packed.

http://www.glowfoto.com/viewimage.php?img=10-051008L&y=2005&m=09&t=jpg&rand=1351&srv=img2
The tiles are 12 inch to give you a size idea.
The tubing is 11/16 outside diameter with press-on end caps with threading on one side.
The couragated plastic is very stiff. It came predrilled with about a 5/8 holes so that you really had to cram it in. The good news is after 3 years, it is still as tight as the day i got it.
Hope this helps.
I have an Older Model Gateway BackPack bag.
IT has held up for over 2 years and the only things that are Wearing out is my Right SHoulder strap(I use it th emost) and MY divider pipes are starting to come out of the Dividers.

I second either the Gateway backpack or the Weekender. For your situation, I'd go with the Weekender.
get some quadshocks with whatever bag you're eying... they're $40 or so but well worth it.
i did see reviews on discgolfreview.com for revolution bags... check it again.
i recently took the plunge and purchased the 'texas team' bag from revolution. it's awsome. plently of disc space and two BIG zipper pouches for herbs, beer, sandwich, beanie, long sleeve shirt etc... they think of it all... like having a little pocket for your minnie, the putter pouch holds 2 putters, a pad on the back for your back, and even an umbrella holder which i'm sure to use this fall. anyways, i'm happy with my purchase, and adding quadshocks was a good move, too. this setup is actually even easier to carry than my small innova bag with a shoulder strap that would always fall over and spill my discs when i set it down on any incline.
U can't even compare revolution bags to any others..they're the best disc golf bag by far REVOLUTION BAGS (http://www.discgolfer.com/)

I have the gateway tour bag and love it. I only carry 14 discs in it, and could easily get by with 12. In fact, on a casual round, it holds 12 discs in the main compartment, a putter in the putter pouch, and a 12 pack of bottles.12 pack fits in perfectly between 2 innova 6 disc accordian dividers, one holds the drivers, the other holds the mids.

I have a newer Gateway Backpack bag and it had plenty of zippered compartments and I find it very comfortable. I haven't tried all the bags out there but as it is right now (I've been using the Gateway bag since the beginning of the year) I have no reason to try anything else.
I chose the Gateway Bag over the Revolution bags because of cost, capacity and disc access. Pretty much all I had to go on was pictures, lists of features and online reviews. I thought the backpack bag looked like it was easier to access the discs and the listed capacity was larger. It was also cheaper (especally when you factor in a dual strap) and praised just as much in intelligent reviews ("Only ever buy REVOLUTION, it's the RULZEORS!!!!" doesn't count).
I don't doubt you'd be happy with either the Gateway or Revolution bags if you want to spend the cash.

I have had my Revolution Texas Edition bag for over a year now, and I couldnt be happier. I have used it for Disc Golf. I use it in College as a backpack (kinda starting a trend). And most notably, I used it as my carry-on bag during my 15 day trip to Europe.
It is just the best made bag I have ever seen. :D
No, I dont work for Revolution.
RedHaired:
You forgot to add:
"Only ever buy REVOLUTION, it's the RULZEORS!!!!"
:D:D
It depends how much you are willing to spend. I still have the original small lighting bag I bought about 8 years ago, and it is fine. But it is a tad small.
I have gone through several innova bags, so they are fine if you do not get attached to them.
One of the most interesting comments I heard from one of the locals that is an Innova advocate was: I like changing gears every so often. If this describes you, then those bags work well.
I'm more of the mentality: I paid 40 bucks for it, why did it last less than a year.
Having said that I love my carolina edition Revolution bag; it comes with solid strap (got the quad shocks). Due to past experience, I can only in good conscience recommend Revolution.
Please note, I have not ever had a Gateway bag, so I do not know how they would hold up.
Right now i cant find a bag that really suits me.
i will cary at most 12 discs, and most of the time i will keep it under 10, so a big bag is not nesessary. although, the Revolution Mini bag is a Bit to small for me, unless it would be possible to ocasionally shove more than 10 dics in it. this is the bag i want the most really.
the other bag i was thinking about getting was the Gateway Backpack, but i use a plain old book bag to carry my discs now, and i find myself carying it by the top handle most of thew time any way. im not going on a 3 day hike, its at most like a 10 second walk from hole to hole, putting on straps is not nessesary.
i dont know what to get. i wish i could design my own bag. 12-14 discs, 2 cup holders, messenger bag style strap, indestructeble frame. does it exist?
That design sounds like the Revolution bag.
I like backpack style bags, but you're right about carrying for only a few steps. If the next tee box is nearby, I just put one strap over one of my shoulders. The quad shocks are still more comfortable when used in this way than a regular strap.
As far as a backpack goes, it is only really necessary as you bag starts to get heavy. I try to keep at about 10 or less discs myself; I find that it is other equipment that gets heavy, i.e., sunblock, bug repellent, first aid kit, and especially two 32 oz sports drinks. On the bright side, I find myself staying hydrated because I drink often to reduce the weight of the bag. :)
but if i got the Mini Bag, would i be able to cram the ocasional extra few discs in there? i dont want the pro bag which is twice the cost for the extra dsics that i never really use. Does anyone own the mini bag? id like to know how many discs it can really hold........
I just looked at the price of the mini bag; it is about the price of the Innova Deluxe bag which did not last long for me at all.
I would definately buy it for that price; I may do so for a putter bag (storing all my practice putters). One drawback I see immediately is a lack of a drink holder. Perhaps I'm spoiled, but I cannot imagine a round without a drink holder (or two).
That is the reason I switched from my original small Lightning bag to the small Innova bag.
When I e-mailed Revolution about the difference between their bags, the response was to consider how much I was willing to spend. That may be what you need to do here. For around 40 bucks, the small bag sounds like what you may be looking for (that damned cup holder...).
I cram way more than 14 discs into the carolina bag.
the mini bags do have a 32oz cup holder

Do they have a true drink holder or just a mesh pocket that can be used for a drink holder? Maybe the previous poster can give you some more insight on his bag.
I have a deluxe bag I carry my spares in. I bought a second Innova bag after wearing out my first one (smart huh?). But, I kept dreading taking it out worrying about tearing it up. At this point, I began saving up for my Revolution bag. Only took me six months of skipping a lunch or two.
Even after having the money saved up, I hesitated spending the money; they are, after all, still pricey.
I think my decision was made while at Ingleside after I saw someone snag his bag on thorny bush and ripping a small hole in his bag.
Plus, I had over 100 bucks invested in Innova bags alone (not counting my Lightning bag and a Discraft bag that I gave away). So 124 didn't seem to bad for a quality bag.
I like the Innova 'Tour' bag. Good pockets, 2x bottle holders, good strap plus 4 mount points if you decide to add a quad strap. I got mine on Ebay for $50 total.
Thanks
don't load it down, as the backstrap hooks tend to break. In a short time.
They have redesigned the Tour bag so this shouldn't be a problem anymore. The first bags where very prone to the straps for the quads breaking, mine did the same thing. The new Tour Bags have a much better mounting point for the quad shocks, and should hold up for many, many rounds.

my gateway backpack has been awesome! i have had for about 9 months and ALOT! of rounds. during the winter the only water that got in it was the snow i left on my discs. hte padding on the straps is still just as comfortable as they first were. i would give it 9 out of 10. wider straps and a little more padding would make it near perfect.

just got a gateway backpack bag yesterday for an early birthday present; if there is a play it again sports near you then you should go there to get it, they had all gateway bags 10%off and gave me an additional 10% off and then gave me 15.00 for my completely ruined PDGA Tour bag and old quad shocks. bag was normally 139.00, I got it for 96.00 :D. As far as the bag, I havent played a round with it yet but a Nalgene water bottle (32 oz) fits perfect and has plenty of pockets and storage.

Thing is I can get the Best Revolution bag with Quad Shocks for $ 150.00 same price as a Gateway Backpack and my choice of custom colors with a guarantee.
It's really difficult for me to believe the quality is better than the Revolution bag. Is it made in the USA ?
Is the Gateway Backpack guaranteed and is it fully adjustable ?

I don't think you can beat the Revolution Bags for durability and design. I'm not sure what the Gateway bags are made of, it doesn't say anywhere on their site, but the Revo bags are one tough customer. They will last a lifetime. Great design with many pockets and super strong zippers.

the main reason that I didnt get a revolution bag is because you have to order them and then you pay for shipping, gateway bag was at a store down the street and cost $25 dollars less after 10% off and if you were to order the Rev. bag after shipping you would be paying around $165 at least. Both are good bags for sure, sure wish Revolution was carried in stores. but oh well, give em another try in 3 or 4 yrs. :D

Revolution Carolina Team Bag - $120 Shipping - $9
If you add the pro quads, its just $40 more, no extra shipping costs.
The Carolina is the top of the line bag, and mine came with the new Roll Cage injection molded frame. Its super sweet, and will kick anyone's bag.
Hard to beat great craftsmanship from a company that ONLY produces bags for this sport. That is what you want in a product, a company that specializes in that item, not like some one who outsources the task.

Gateway started out in 95' producing bags only and didn't even start making discs until 98'. Many top pros were given bag sponsorships in the 90's and Gateway still has the best quality bag sonthe market IMO. My 1st Revo bag lasted a little more then a year and then I bought a tour bag that lased for three. I currntly have a 1 year old Backpack bag tht is in as good of shape as when I bought it.

My Gateway bag lasted an impressive three years, however things on the bag started to rip out after the first year. The bag as a whole held up, but by the time I retired it both zippers were ripped out and the internal frame was ripping through the top of the interior lining on both sides of the bag. I just got a closeout Revo team bag and everything feels more heavy duty than it did on my Gateway bag, but only time will tell. I love the waist strap on my Team bag and I am disappointed that Revo is no longer integrating them into their current line. The waist strap easily takes 5-10 lbs off the feel of the bag on your back, and for play on long courses and especially elevation, the strap is indispensible.

Ive had mine for 3 years. Its still in excellent condition. It has been kicked, squashed, hammer thrown, rained on, snowed on, beat with my HukSit and still is in great shape. The dividers and roll cage went south a long time ago, but I had a custom cage made by Blind Crow ( blows the crummy PVC plastic/ injection molded crap out of the window ) and its back to near new shape.
If I werent using the Gateway Backpack bag, Id be using a different Gateway bag.

Although no longer available as part of the TEAM Bag line, the waist strap is now being offered on our new REVOLUTION Dual Pack. As you've found, it is a great way to take the load off your shoulders. And when you use it in combination with the chest strap that is part of the Dual Pack's backpack straps, there's the feeling of very little load on your shoulders at all.
Glad to hear you are enjoying your new bag. It is certainly alway great to see unsolicited feedback from satisfied customers in a forum like this.
Thanks,

wondering how many people have tried the gateway/revolution backpack and what they thought
The Gateway backpack bag is the best disc golf bag on the market.
If you have not tried one on, you do not know what you're missing. The weight is distributed higher on one's back...the way weight is supposed to be carried. Quad-shocks are popular because they distribute the weight evenly on the shoulders, but the Quad-shocked bags ride too low on most people. If you'll notice, Quad-shock users are usually hunched forward slightly to counter the weight bouncing off their tail end. Ever see a soldier packing weight by using Quad-shocks?
I'm interested in trying one of the new Revolution bags simply because of the backpack design. It looks like the Revolution bag may have a bit more storage space, but I'm not sure that bit of extra space will outweigh the difference in price. Gateway offers a great value for their backpack bag.
My first Gateway backpack lasted for over four years (I still have it and use it during rainy/muddy rounds). The new Gateway bags have improved with wider/thicker shoulder straps as well as thicker padding to the backside which is much more comfortable to wear.

The Gateway bags are made out of 1440 x 1440 dinier. The bottoms are made out of a ballistic material that is used in lawnmower bags which is shot with some caliber of steel ball for testing.
The entire bag is backed with a pvc material. A bag is only as strong as what it is backed with. The reason the innova bags fall apart so quickly is becasue they are backed with either vinyl or felt.
The zippers and hooks are all made out of metal. No plastic.
The water bottle holders are large and fit a nalegene or large gatorade bottle.
The backpack has more padding in the straps and there is padding along with a sitiffener in the back for better comfort.
Best of all the backpack weighs in under 2lbs with the frame.
The revolution bag is only 1000 x 1000 dinier.

Website is a little out dated. Which you can tell by the price of the bag.
The revolution bag is only 1000 x 1000 dinier.
Which bag are you talking about?
Carolina Team Bag:
The Carolina Edition TEAM Bag is the most durable disc golf bag ever made. With 1650D Cordura in the main compartment, great-looking 1000D Cordura in the side and front pockets, and an ultra-tough bottom made of two layers of 12 oz truck vinyl, the Carolina TEAM Bag pulls no punches and is ready for years of heavy use. Like all REVOLUTION bags, the Carolina TEAM Bag is MADE IN USA and features bomb-proof double stitching and nylon seam taping throughout.
Trust me, I know a few peeps who have some original, not as nice quality bags, and they are still kickin in great shape. Add to the fact that the center of the bag is a better material, Cordura .vs. not as durable Condura, plus the new injection molded rollcage that will reduce, if not almost elimated bag rubbing and wear on the inside and I have a bag that was very cheap over the long run.
P.S. Im not knocking Gateway, its just that the people who have 2 - 5 year old Gateway bags can only put discs in. All the zippers are broken, and several strap anchor points have had to be re-sewn so that it did not fall apart. But hey, the material still looks nice.

Thanks Shawn, I wasn't sure.
Talking about aesthetics, the Revolution bags are definitely the best looking in my opinion. I have had a Rev. Mini bag for a couple years and there are some small holes in the bottom where the frame would wear against the ground. Also I just noticed this weekend that the zipper for the main compartment is getting torn out a little on one side. This is after a couple years of pretty hard use. I've been quite happy with it and I will probably buy another Rev. bag when my Mini is finished.

In the QCs about everybody has a Gateway bag, mainly backpacks, and Ive seen only one that had the problems your talking about, and it was a first production backpack bag. Im not saying these problems dont exist, but I am saying that Im VERY CRUEL to my bag, and for 3 years its been nothing but a glutton for punishment. Still in excellent shape.

After extensive research I bought a Gateway Weekend Deluxe, and I've been totally happy with it. It's just what I wanted.
1) I don't want to lug around a huge bag, but it has all the storage and disc space that I need.
2) It's less expensive than Revolution, so it fit my budget better.
Ordered it from GottaGo GottaThrow and had great service.

I think that there are 3 kinds of bags. Cheapos, good bags and great bags.
If you ever have to replace a bag, it wasn't great.
Just find a quality bag that holds as much as you need. I think one of the problems is that people don't get a bag that is big enough. They end up packing it full and that is what causes them to strain at the seams. If you are going to carry 20+ discs, a couple water bottles, towels, mini, snacks, and in my case about a pound of loose change, you are going to destroy any bag except the high end ones.
Personally, I have a Rev. club bag. At $65 it was a good value. Looks like the day I bought it. It replaced my Wall City mega-cube only because I was buying myself a treat. The Wall City bag is still in great shape after many years of use.

When you use the front and back attachment points the bag sits right where it should, in your lower back. Most people make the mistake of not using the correct anchor points and use the top 2 attachment points with the straps too long. </font>
As I said, most people attach the quads to the bag like this:

I'm in the market for a new bag too, as my old Gateway Player bag is falling apart. I'm guessing their standard has gone up? Mine has plastic zips (which broke) and all the corners are worn through.
As I've been quite disappointed by the Gateway, I quite fancy the Revolution Team, but does it really only hold 12-14 discs?!? I carry 15 comfortably at the moment. 14 seems small for their largest bag!
Seems like I have 2 choices, trust that the Revolution is big enough, or trust that Gateway have improved... Given that I have to pay shipping to the UK, I don't want to get it wrong!

Bruce, in my Revolution Team I carry 8 drivers and 6 mids quite comfortably with a putter in the front pocket and a putter in the side sleeve pocket. Could actually carry another driver or another mid in the bag itself but it would be tight. Plus you could easily carry another disc or two in one of the zipper end pockets if you absolutely, positively couldn't winnow it down.

I am that friend and I had that bag for at least 6, if not 7 years! Plus your 2 years and me carrying 22-25 discs makes/made for one tough bag!
Now for a smaller replacement - as I wish to pare down my disc selection - I'll have to decide b/tw a Gateway replacement or a Revolution...decisions, decisions...!
To the original poster: If you manage to play 250 DG outings/year - then a $100 investment will cost you 10 cents/DG outing over 4 years. A new bag is an investment - as the comfort level and ease of use should dictate your choice. Over the years of reading threads like this one the consensus seems to point toward Gateway or Revolution from all the testmonials on this board. Do you want to risk being sorry...or satisfied?

I am not convinced yet Revolution is still pretty new in the market. I miss my wall city cube, I understand why they went out of business though, I bought the cube when I first started playing for maybe 35 and sent it in at least twice for minor problems and got a brand new bag both times. There was a company that made a high quality product and stood behind it as well if not better than any company I have ever dealt with.

Ah... the Wall City Cube.... truely a superior bag! I still have a cube and mega cube. They are great when you don't need the entire arsenal.
As for large capacity bags.... I'm using a Rev. club bag right now. I've heard nothing bad about the higher end Rev bags.
I won a Gateway Tour bag many moons ago. It's didn't have the best features at the time. However, the quality of the Gateway bags has really improved over the years. People who have them, love them.
The secret to keeping a bag in great shape is to not abuse it (no bag kicking!!) Don't overload it, so get one that's big enough.
I don't think you could go wrong with either the Gateway or Rev bag.

REVOLUTION Disc Golf has been designing, manufacturing, and selling bomb-proof disc golf bags since 1998. Is eight years still new?
Here's something to chew on. We've had fewer bags sent back for return than we've been in existence. Seems like a pretty good testament to the quality of our products for such a "young" company.
Thanks,

hey scott,
Could you list some of the differences between the 2.
The Gateway Backpack is pretty functional and extremely durable.
I would be willing to make improvements to the backpack but have never heard any complaints or suggestions.
thicker and wider straps. 2 insulated water bottle holders. the front putter pocket barely fits one putter. but i love my bag.

I don't think that is a putter pocket.

the new Innova Tour bag I have (~ spring 2005) is great.
Very durable, and has taken it's fair share of abuse. I totally reccomend this bag, the only issue I have is two water bottle holders on the same side?!?!?
what's that about... I usually only carry 1 water anyways... but still, seems kind of odd to me. Other than that, super bag, I have a RED one... oooooooh...

I wonder how the pdga and innova can get away with calling their bags "tour bags", seeing as though weve used the name since 1995.
Is there somwhere in print where these non-Gateway bags are being advertised and sold as tour bags?

I'll post pics of my Revolution tour bag bought back in ~2001, I used it heavily for about 3-4 years, played in over 50 PDGA events with it and more than 1,000 rounds. It is still in great shape.

Seems like there are a lot of Tour Bags available online.
And they are available for a large number of sports, Tennis, Racquet ball, Snow Skiing, Ball Golf, Bicycling, etc.

I kick the hell out of my Gateway backpack bag. I have a Blind Crow bag divider, which shrinks the bag about one disc and adds about a discs weight. It features metal and some super durable plastic, instead of PVC or injected molded junk. This keeps the bag in shape ( as hardly any of the marketed dividers actually help maintain the overall durability of the bag, what with sharp points and non-fiting parts ) and also makes it super resistent to soccer style penalty kicks and Olympic hammer throws.
They can be ordered through Iron Lion DGS. They are well worth the $25 for the investment of a $100+ bag.

Scott's backpack was one of the older gateway backpacks...
My friends original Gateway Backpack has withstood many years of punishment. His wife offered to buy him a new Revolution bag and he said there wasn't any reason to switch. (Of course she bought herself the new Rev bag instead).
I've been using a PDGA bag for 4 years, but I finally lost the last set of zippers and most the other straps besides the main ones have long since came off. I'm also not sure what I'm going to replace it with.

Everyone else is posting, so I'll do the same.
When I first started playing, I was given a hand-me-down Gateway Tour bag. This thing was VERY old, and was actually given to me from someone that recieved it as their first bag. I'm told the bag had 6 years of HEAVY use before it came to me.
I used it for the better part of a year, and the only repair I had to make was the front panel where the putter pocket was had ripped a couple of inches by the side. Sewed up, and good as new.
More recently, the bottom of the outside pocket developed a hole from wear. 7 years and it had jsut began to show wear that I see in 6 month old _ _ _ _ _ _ bags and _._._._. bags.
Well, I didn't like the hole (don't want to lose keys, wallet, or cellphone out on the course) so I got a Revo bag with the new plastic cage for my birthday. I've seen the Revo bags with 3-4 years on them and no problems. The new cage eliminates the old wear points and holds the bag open and square very well.
If Gateway had some cooler colors, I would have ordered one of them probably.... but I am more than happy with my Revo bag. It's pretty much a tossup of the two to determine which is the better bag, but if you stick to Gateway and Revo, you'll be happy either way!

Just wanted to chime in on this one. Bought a used Gateway bag from Blake T. He had 4 years in it and I am on my second year. He told me "It will be the best bag you will ever own" he was right (as usual) I got a Revo bag for playing in the AM worlds, it's a little guy, it seems great but if I had all the money in the world and could pick any bag out there, it would be the sweet blue and black Gateway Tour Bag

Im pretty sure you can get a Gateway bag designed exactly how you want it, for a few bucks more. We have a rep that lives around here and hes had a dozen different custom bags, in all sorts of wild designs and color schemes.
Call them and ask them about what you want, more than likely you will get it.

Can't say enough good things about my Revolution Bags.
My large bags are still brand new.
My Mini Revolution bag has out lasted any of my other bags. Maybe because they are made in the U.S.A. and not China.
I Fly to tournaments with it and the Airport security thinks they are cool too !!! /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Got a Gateway bag that's lasted 4 years, and I've had 2 "problems".
1. The hooks to connect straps to on the back side of the bag have fallen off.
2. The black is fading from being outside (sun/rain/etc.)
Neither is a big problem and I've been very happy with it. Problem 1 is solved by hooking all 4 strap points to the top. Problem 2 is expected.
I've thought about buying a new bag the last 2 years, but if it ain't broke I can't convince myself to fix it. When I do, it will be Gateway or Revolution.

I just sold one of my Revo Carolina bags for 2/3 what I paid for it a year and a half ago ... it was in excellent shape after being used 4-5 days a week at a pretty rugged mountain course. I wouldn't buy anything else.

Here is my Revolution Bag after over 1,000 rounds and over 3 years of consistent use (I purchased it in ~Fall 2001). The only thing that happened to it is there are two tiny holes in the bottom from the frame rubbing the ground. There are no broken zippersor loose threads, nothing is unstitched, no tears.........by far the best bag out there.

This may sound crazy, but you could always use cooking wax (paraffin) on the metal. It'll minimize the resistance between the 2. You could also use some sort of oil/grease, but that'd be hell if it got on your discs. I did this on my 'beaners for when I used it with my night bag (also a gateway) and it silenced the issues I had. The only problem with wax is, if you carry a heavy bag, it wears through it every couple rounds.
Another idea would be to replace hte carabeaners with zip ties.

Wax and Oil . I tried that and it still squeaks. Wax wears out and so does oil .
I'm not into applying zip ties to hold the weight of my bag either , unless I absolutely have to , for a Emergency fix. I have had it with that action. You can't be monkeying around with your set up.
I want my bag to look professional and not rigged.
Never any Issues like that with my Revolution Bag. Apply Quad Shocks and Go !!!!
Never been happier , plus they are guaranteed !!!

Hey you Gateway Back Pack & Revolution Dual Pack operators: How easy is it for you to get in-and-out of your rig as compared to a Quadshox (w/ a Gateway Tourbag) setup? Also, how tall is a fully loaded example?

I find it easier, its the same as school backpack. thee thing i think i like most is that it doesn't bounce as you walk.
its ~ 2 discs tall, ~1 1/3 disc deep, and ~ 2 discs wide. sorry couldn't find the tape measure.

How many of the Revolution bags have this potential Quadshock setup...and does it ride higher up similar to a Revo Dual Pack?
How about Gateway's non-Back Pack bags?
(I already own a good pair of (used)Phenix Quadshocks that I can transfer to a new bag...)
<font color="red"> Actually, there are 4 strap attachment points, 2 on the front and 2 in the back. I am not talking about or counting the 2 bag strap attachment points on the top of the bag. When you use the front and back attachment points the bag sits right where it should, in your lower back. Most people make the mistake of not using the correct anchor points and use the top 2 attachment points with the straps too long. </font>
As I said, most people attach the quads to the bag like this:
http://discgolfer.com/images/pink.carolina.straps.jpg
Instead the straps should be attach to the loops shown here in blue, and the opposing loops in the back (not shown)
