I recently purchased a 2010 usdgc roc, a silver Nikko with the rainbow stamp. I've never picked up a collector disc and was wondering what is worth, if it is likely to go up in value, or if I should just take it out of the box and throw it. First post by the way. Thanks

check the registry through zonedriven.com. That will tell you how rare it is.

Its one of 200 stamps and one of 35 in this color and stamp, but I just don't know what that means. I know some rare ones are never worth much and some more common ones really rise in price. I've never collected discs and am tempted to turn it into a thrower, but don't want to if its going to be worth something.

It seems to me, IMHO, that all USDGC rocs appreciate in value somewhat. Some more than others, but all end up selling for more than what they were originally purchased for. It comes down to whether or not you really want to throw it. I've sold a used champ USDGC roc for just a little less than what I paid, and I got some good use out of it. I'd throw it...nothing is sacred.

Usually the really rare ones (1 of 1,1 of 5, 1 of 10 and so on) are the ones that bring the most money. 1 of 35 (in my opinion) is kind of in the in between area of being rare and not rare at all. If you want to throw it than throw it because its probably not a disc that will bring a ton of money in a few years. I personally dont throw any of the USDGC rocs unless they are already used/thrown by someone else because I know that a new one in the packaging is going to go up in value in the future. I (along with a lot of other collectors out there) are hoping that the market for USDGC rocs will keep going up but there is never a guarantee. For example the rocs that sold at the 2009 roc release have had HORRIBLE resale value. Most of them sell on ebay for around $25 which is what we payed for them the day of the tournament. This could be partly because those rocs are terrible throwers and the fact that there wasn't a true numbered registry through zone driven for them. Fortunately, JP and the guys at innova east really stepped it up this year and made some great discs. I would guess that if they keep doing it the way they did it this year in the future we will see the market increasing over time.

Innova did sent out yellow and orange 8x kc rocs. I got around 30 of them back in 97 in a regular shipment of discs. I've given away or sold most of them since then. I know I didn't dye them, maybe Innova did somehow.

Id say this is one that will probally go up in price, since Nikko won that year.

The pics i'ver seen of the Sliver and Golds look like they are opaque is this right? Opaque Champ plastic is rare IMO havent seen much of it since old true CE

Innova does send out dyed discs, they just don't do the dyeing themselves. Normal dyes are contracted out through a couple of folks. They send the blanks to the dyer who dyes them and ships them back. Then Innova sells them.

As for the colored 8X ROCS, the question was asked of Dave a few years back as to a guess on run numbers, to which Dave replied "we've never made any orange 8X KC ROCS, they must have been dyed". Granted he usually only deals with the product before it's stamped and or dyed, but they didn't produce any of color. Not to say that someone at Innova didn't have them dyed, returned to Innova and for Innova to sell them.

Keep it in the box and pick up a used CE ROC or a thrower ROC if you want one to throw. New ones will go up in value at some point. The whole disc golf collectible market is at a low point right now, mainly due to the overall economy. It has been this way for about 2 to 2 1/2 years now. This is a buyers market.

And a 1 of 35 is rare. Considering that Zonedriven listened to the collectors and decreased the overall production numbers this year. This is the first year in a long time that the market isn't flooded. Keep it, put it away some place safe and watch and see where it's at in 2 years or 5 years.

A 9x KC Roc just sold for like $122. It might have gotten more due to having the stock KC stamp. Where as the proto's some people just don't have the knowledge of the rarity of those discs and are leary of buying what's unknown to them. Someone got a smokin deal, I had recently paid $135 for a proto 8x Roc.

Yes there were SE Teebirds, Valkyries and Leopards. Their stamps were bar stamps also, but they actually read "Special Edition Teebird" not first run. The first run dx Eagles had the same "First Run " bar stamp. The first run dx Firebids had the bar stamp but with only "Choice of Champions". Sorry to ramble, hope this helps.

I had fat fingers that day, there are no 49 or 59 molds.

Take a look along the flight rings and you'll see the number. Should be 22, 40, 50, 70, 71, 80, 86, and 100 molds with some other odd numbers mixed in for the Pink Ladies like 42A. My favorite is the 50 mold, which was the 141g Frisbee.

The Eagle is a used disc as some of the listing are, but certainly something that is kind of hard to come by these days. ( its over 25 years old and I do have another one identical to this one.).

I also have discs from past worlds for those who collect discs from pro and am worlds.

Not a 1st run. And I know the collector and have done business with him before. Great guy.

Reasoning - There were aproximately 200 of the blue "blueberry" 1st runs. Of those original 200 about 50 to 75 went to the So Cal championships. These were stamped with the tourn. logo. Aprox. 100 made it to the east coast warehouse where they were stamped with the zonedriven bar stamp, a few with the ice bowl stamp and a few more with other stamps. There were also some done with the star stamp at the west coast factory. I've talked to the folks who did the stamping at the west coast factory and the east coast factory and no one ever remembers stamping them with the stock CE stamp. Not even sure if the stock CE stamp design had been finalized yet.

The production circle and the mold & weight written on back - this was a theory a few of us came up with back in 2002 or 2003. The person doing the weighing and lettering at the west coast factory did all of the 1st run CE plastic. He wrote the model outside of the small production circle and the weight inside the circle. However this also continued halfway through the 2nd run on all molds before someone else took over the duties. You will find a number of 2nd runs in other colors listed as 1st runs based solely on this little marking. You have to go back to the 1st run colors of red and blueberry.

The 1st runs blueberry's that came out of the east coast warehouse also had a hexagon sticker attatched to the back the said 1st run CE Valkyrie. This sticker was basic but was done in 2 different fonts. Of the 12 1st runs I've owned over the years all of them had this sticker. They were also they same shade of blue no matter what weight. The level of opauqeness did change however with the weights. Lighter ones you could see the sticker barely through the flight plate. Heavier ones you couldn't make the sticker out unless you put a light behind it.

Something else to keep in mind is this. This was a new disc done in new durable plastic. There wasn't a CE collectible market at the time. With the numer of them that were given out as part of the players pack at the So Cal Tourn., I can only imagine how many were actually thrown and not stored away. Same goes with the ones from the east coast. Yet I've seen 200+ advertised on Ebay since early 2003. Most listed as mint, and most with the stock stamp. All different shades of blue, clear, opaque, mold id inside the cirle and out. Numbers just don't add up.

What I learned about these particular discs came from lots of research, mainly talking to the folks at Innova. I was a vendor at the time and was making 1 to 2 trips a week down to the east coast factory every week. The guys that dealt with these discs are friends that work there and at the time back in 2002 and 2003 thier memories were pretty fresh.
I'll try to post a couple of pics tonight or tomorrow.

Seems that these CE Classic Rocs are in demand, at least judging by the last two posts. Just curious what the going rate is for them nowadays? Anybody know what stamps are on them? I have an orange CR from the 2002 Master's Cup that feels like CE, but I'm not sure. Anybody in the know?

One just sold on ebay. a new 2002 yellow master cup $63. Ill pay 70 shipped. I need throwers. Not for collecting. Im lost without mine. Lost it about 3 weeks ago. Have a huge hole in my arsenal. one of the main parts of my game for sure.

Thanx

If I remember right, from way back then, The original CE CLassic ROC was a 2002 USDGC fundraiser that was in yellow, pink and orange. They had the 'Star' stamp on them and the price range for collecting them now go from about $110 to $200. The pink and yellow ones were more rare and they have been seen going for over $200. With the economy now, those prices are probably a little high.

Master Cup, Worlds Doubles and several other 'Major 'tourneys also had the CE ROC that year. I don't know about prices on them, but I would imagine somewhere around $75-100 for collecting.

I have seen them with 2001 Masters cup on them and have seen an Innova worker post that they were ran in 2001. There might have been a 2nd run in 02. I have seen at least a dozen dif stamps on them. There were also x-outs and I even have one that Barry Schultz gave me after he one the 2001 USDGC that says "one div one champion". I'm selling an x-out on E-bay that ends tonight.

Well yours is champion edition, Sir! One of the best approach disc ever. i have maybe 15-16 of them all differnet tournament stamps. I carry two in the bag at all times. but I will never let any go, but Dave Dunipace said they were going to remold the classic roc back to orignal specs, instead of the more blunt nose champion or star of the current runs. So if Dave comes threw we will finial have the orignal classic roc back!!!!!

I have a 1st run Buzz question for you all.

When I lived in Iowa (2005-2007), I remember Adam Olson throwing a 1st run Buzz with the 2004 or 2005 pdga tour stamp on it (the one with all the NT stamps in a circle). It was flat like a first run but didn't possess a 1st run stamp. He said that Discraft held back a lot of the 1st runs that were clear for tournament stamping.

I just recently acquired a super flat Wasp tooled clear tournament stamped trophy disc from 2004 or 2005. I was curious if this was a first run or not, or if anyone knew a way to identify it.

tafe
May 17 2011, 01:30 PM
The inner rim of the disc should say, "Wasp", not "Buzzz". I think that's the only identifier.

Furthur
May 17 2011, 01:37 PM
Sorry, it does say Wasp. I don't know why I said Buzz.

tafe
May 18 2011, 12:54 PM
My bad. I was thinking 1st run Buzzz, not wasp.
As far as I know, all first run Z Wasps are yellow or orange and have a ghost-stamp "Z" in the middle. They also have a standard dome on them.
I also have a flat clear Z Wasp from the 2003 Cross Canyon, I think the clears are rarer than the 1st runs. Discraft sends clears to J-bird for dyeing or saves them for tourneys only.

I picked this disc up used at a second hand store. Please tell me anything you know about it. Here is what I know about it. It is a 2001 PDGA Pro Worlds disc made by Millenium. It has J and 170 written on the back. Also on the back is the writing that is on the back of CE discs "Innova Champion...". Finally it leaves fingerprints, and though it looks like its been thrown, doesnt look very beat up. Here are pictures of the disc so you can see for yourself.

Here is my question

Could this disc be Champion Edition plastic?

20460chase
May 19 2011, 01:24 PM
Its more than likely the SE plastic they used for Millennium, but you never know.

I sold a similar stamped EXP and sold it as SE plastic, not CE. The buyer then told me it was CE, but I think that was wishful thinking. Its not like I wouldnt have wanted the CE upcharge.

The older SE stuff will show fingerprints as well, like CE. Dave has said thats something to do with the ingrediants, and that its common in plastic from that era.

Teebird junkies, this post is for you. Where you at Greg?

The disc pictured above is an Eagle, I know, but I want to talk about the stamp....and this auction, somewhat. I dont think this disc is CE. I cant find pictures of mine offhand.

I have CE Teebirds with this stamp. I just recently got another off Ebay from CouchCruiser that went from $250 down to $100 in the span of a year. It is 159g. You probably saw it up there. I actually believe it to be the rarest, as I have never seen one so light and have only seen one other w a Red Stamp. There were others on for awhile that were priced as high as $500, and Im sure there is a link buried in this thread for it.

First off, Im throwing out that its virtually impossible for this to be a CE Teebird. As I posted before, I believe them to be full CE 10x KC Teebirds. In accordance to the timelines provided, these would have to be more like the late run CE to be Teebirds, unless they were used as gifts and made in a short run for the Pros that stamped them, as rumored. The first time I saw these was in late '01 or summer '02. Doesnt fit the CE Teebird timeline.

So here is where it gets tricky. I believe there are actually 2 seperate sets of Teebirds out there with this stamp. Ther eis one set that is SE plastic, and I believe these were sold by the WinniCrew. They do not have the "T" designation on the back. A firend of mine just got one in the mail and brought it over to compare to mine. I have more than a few. To me, it was similar to the SE discs. The only arguement that I think can be made is possibly 9x KC, but I dont think so.

The ones I have always have been known as Cam Todd Teebirds. They were supposedly stamped by Cam after he won the '01 Worlds. Avery Jenkins was put off when I called them Cam Todds, saying the Crew did them before and sold them for travelling money. The only problem, and I havent tlaked to Avery yet about it, was he didnt tell me a date that the Crew stamped and sold thiers.

Several people on here talked about having some, so check them out and see what you have. All mine have the "T" designation on back, some are the double stamped versions that Cam himself stamped. But, supposedly there was 100 of them done, so few show the errors Cam made overall.

Okay, so whats up with this.

So, very shortly I will be ordering my allocation of the New Innova Champion Rancho Mold Rocs.

Innova recently tweeked the normal Rancho mold to produce a stiff, overstable run of rocs. I got my hands on two of the "test" versions, and the one I threw felt and flew very similar to the kenny 4x glow champion roc. The past few runs have been noticibly more understable than this run.

Any one interested in one? I'll be getting a limited allocation, but if you're interested, please PM me.

The disc that your friend Nate got was sold by me on Ebay. It was slightly different from the Cam birds, but I knew of no other discs with that taffy CE feel that had COC stamps on them.

As for the COC teebirds, they were all T molds and supposedly you could tell if Cam did them because the stamp would be off. I never noticed that and bought many from Cam when he was on tour. I think you may be right that there are two sets of these, but they are still the same disc. By that I mean some were sold by the Winnie Crew and others by Cam. These would have been made around the time of the 2nd runs with the plastic slightly less opaque than a second run, but not as opaque as third runs. These limited COC CE teebirds weere the only other true T mold aside from the 5th runs. I still have two.

As you know, there are no absolutes when it comes to discs. During the golden age of CE KC and SE plastics, there were many different blends and versions of the Teebird. I remember having 5 different version of the 9x KC Teebird. Some were stiffer, some had nippples, different lips, etc. I have a SE Teebird that is definitely a 2nd run CE Teebird with an SE stamp. I have a CE Firebird that has a DX Firebird stamp. People goofed around with stamps and plastics so much back then, nothing surprises me anymore.

Hi Greg, I wasnt sure it that was you or not. I told him if it was, your a well informed seller, but this was a confusing subject.

BTW, Ill take that Teebird. Ive never seen one, but I still disagree on the plastic type. Its my belief, and will be until I talk to Avery, that its an SE T. I also agree with you that not everything is as it seems, and there was enough tell tale spots on that T to hold the arguement on your end.

If you want send me your address, Ill send you one of mine to check out. I have several in orange and white. There is a noticable diffence in the discs.

Thanks, but what would you be sending? I have SE,KC, and CE as well as Cam(or COC) Teebirds that I compared that disc to. I appreciate the offer. I think I'm holding on to the Teebird in question when I get it back from Nate, at least until I confirm 100% what it is and it's history. I know it's a very special disc because it has so many experts stumped. I'm sure next time I see Dave, he will just smell it and tell me exactly what it is.

Ok. Id be sending one thats nothing like the one Nate showed me. Thats SE. It didnt even have a "T" marking. Im not stumped on the disc, just the history, as I think they are different from the CTs and were stamped and sold by the WinniCrew, but earlier. Would you say thats a possiblity?

If I really had to make a guess, SE is what I would say, with a minor possiblilty its a taffy 9x KC. Let me know if you ever want to sell, its a very sweet disc.

Yeah, Im eager to see if they will sell. If they do, I dont think it will be for more than the minimal bid. They are the THE Teebird if your a collector, but I dont know if that would be my asking price.

I talked to him about it thru PMs, wasnt sure where to price them really. It was my opinion, they were worth about $1100-1500 ea. I think that also is high, but was told there may only be 4 left that are unthrown...

He pointed out that the Rocs were going for as much or more and these offer more signifcant history...but not the same level of collectability.

The disc alone is as rare as anything out there now, but if those numbers are anywhere near correct, I think you get whatever you can out of it. I really, really like the milky White version w Rainbow stamp....but thats a little more than what both of my cars together are worth. Lol.

I know someone who has a hand molded CE Firebird with about an inch of flashing on it. It was a test run from about '99.

Awesome for you 1967! Looks like you should sell one on Ebay. I saw the 2k one is gone, so someone is either making a deal or bought it.

When you're talking over $1k for a disc, anything's for sale. I personally had one of the Holy Grail clear Zonedriven ghost stamped 2000 CE Rocs. Traded an orange 8x for it in 2001. Then traded it away for a bunch of other sweet Rocs. It happens to be the one that is unregistered now by the new owner.

The first CE showed up at PAW2000 in the form of 20 clear Teebirds that were knicknamed "chameleons" because you'd have a hard time finding them if you threw them.

The first real run CE discs were released at the 2000 SoCal Championships in September or October of that year and were the Gazelles and Valks with the big star stamps and big flashing, flashing that would hold up even if you threw the things into a brick wall.

Just sayin' you're off by a year. :D

I dont know to be honest with you, just reporting what was said. I think it may be based off his on investigative work, and by the response to his search for them for a website he was building. I know of a few, all but one have been thrown.

I bought some Mini's at a disc golf auction. They were in a Wall City Mini Bag. I had never seen one of those before! It's kind of cool. Wall City Austin Texas on the front, and 1994 PDGA Worlds Disc Golf Championships (Texas outline) on the back. There were a bunch of minis in the bag and the auctioneer sold them as mystery items. When I won the bag, I also won the discs and was very pleasantly surprised when I opened up the bag!

If you know how much any of these are worth, please let me know. If you are interested in buying, let me know that as well. Thanks!

PS, the date on my camera wasn't set correctly. I am too lazy to change it. :)

Okay, I've been perplexed by this sudden influx of CAL mold Teebirds. First off, I fell in love with the Teebird when it first came out and have owned/thrown every version there was aside from maybe the original hand poured CE version. I was seeing Champion plastic versions being sold and was trying to find a CAL mold Champion Teebird in my stash to see what the difference was. I couldn't find one. Then I decided to look at pre-Champion KC and SE discs. AHA!!!!! What I found was a revalation to me. I found a 10x KC, an SE, a 1st Run CE, a Cam Todd/Winnie Crew CE, and a weird (what I call a 1st and a half run) CE that has a pronounced nipple on top all with the CAL stamp on the bottom. Funny thing is, that there are noticeable variances in each one. The SE has a straighter lip than the 10x KC. The 1st Run CE has a slightly less straighter lip than the SE that extends slightly further. The Cam Todd/Winnie Crew CE is almost identical to the 10x KC but not exact. The mythical 1st and a half run has the same lip as the SE , but has the nipple on top(similar to a metalhead viper). I never found any 11x Teebirds with CAL stamps though.

So, I've determined that there were no real consistencies in the CAL mold and that it was changed a few times. Sorry for the long dissertation, I just wanted to share my observations on a subject that has puzzled me for awhile. I feel fortunate that I have older stuff to do this kind of research.

I guess now the question is: Which one of the afore mentioned discs is this new/old mold of CAL discs from?

Once again, sorry to rant. I hope this information serves some of you collectors.

I don't know what a "CAL" mold is, but could the differences you see be explained by how the different plastic blends shrink when cooled? I remember some of the small bead Aviars came out looking like beadless in the new plastics. The nose/wing could setup a little differently pretty easily from that too I suppose.

Just a scan of whats at hand:

4 11x KC w swoosh stamp: 4 CA
5 11x KC w 2nd run stamp: 4 CAL 1 CA
Champion Glo TB + : CAL
Echo Star : CA

Ill check the others but I am sure, much like yours, they will be CAL. As was the older glow Champions Im pretty sure. I am pretty sure I still have some of the CAL 11x Teebirds, and thought the Blue S-TBs from awhile back we talked abut were too. Of the 2nd stamp version KCs the CAL is stiffer plastic. The CA is softer.

The Cam Todd/ WinniCrew Teebirds look like KCs because they are. Last runs, of the 4 done of 10x. They were done in WHITE, ORANGE and PINK. Thats it, according to Avery who was working there at the time. I just talked to him about it the other day. He thinks between 100 and 200 total were produced, closer to 100. Im looking for a PINK one and have CASH to spend or CE to trade....just saying.
