So which is more likely, that this mystery disc is just a gummy champion leopard that got mis-stamped with a pro stamp, or a proline leopard that was sitting around without a stamp and had a pro stamp put on it when it was found because that's the stamp used at the time? It's a translucent blue, but I've had a few proline leopards in the past and none of them were translucent. I'm not too worried about it, the disc just feels really nice and I'm gonna throw it. I just would like to have some idea as to what it really is so I can track some more of them down.

It's a "Proline Leopard" with the stamp just saying Pro Leopard. It's not mis-stamped, like they said, that's what they used to call champion plastic after CE. Same disc, I've seen many like these, and the 150's that I've seen were all gummy. Dynamic Discs had about 20 of these discs about a year ago, I'd check to see if they still have any left.

First, quick history:
Between CE and Champion you had, IIRC, the Pro Line Leopard, Monster, Beast, and Spider, the Pro Firebird, the JK Pro Valkyrie (just 4x I think) and the 11x KC Pro Teebird. While I don't know enough (paging Rick Black...) to tell the exact mix they all used, most of them certainly had the translucent look of Champion. I've seen both opaque and translucent (in heavy weights) 4x Valks though. I've only ever seen opaque Pro Line Leopards, though this is the experience of a casual collector (and I've certainly never been a dealer/seller).
Of course, it didn't help that they released later Pro (like the Starfire, etc.) versions of the Leopard, Firebird (the earlier Champion-like Firebirds had the word Firebird styled like on a DX Firebird, but otherwise the stamp looked the same), Beast, Valk, and Teebird.
But going on that, my guess would be that it's simply translucent due to the low weight, and otherwise is like a current pro leopard. I don't have it to feel, and I've never been great at judging the plastic differences by touch anyway. If it is definitely champion, and therefore was misstamped, then it would typically have more than one stamp or the x-out/factory second stamp somewhere. I'd certainly try to find out more, though. The Pro Line Leopards have decent value (I had one, along with a champ-style Pro Firebird, and traded those along with a third disc for 4-5 discs in return...suffice it to say we both came away happy, and this was probably 5 years ago), but the Pro you can find now.
Oh, and Rick, about Disclanding stamped discs? I've got a CE Aero, clear, with just the DL (thrower only, not the word) logo. How many of those could there be out there? Not so much a question of value (you know how often I get rid of discs...Super Rocs not included), since it's well used (Zeb's name is on it, and I bought it from Kirk), just curious how rare it is? Both how many clear DL's, and whether there are any other DL CE Aeros, clear or not? Actually, for that matter, how rare are NON-clear CE Aeros? Most of mine are clear to some degree (and certainly not as gummy as Champ Aeros, so I'm pretty sure they aren't those), but only one is definitively opaque, and in my admittedly limited experience, I've never come across another like it. Thanks for any light you can shed!
Frank

I think I just didn't realize that the innova swoosh stamp has been around as long as it has. I had thought that the all of the older post CE pre champion discs were labeled proline, not pro also. Were CE leopards ever ran a greenish translucent color very similar to the green used in the pdga logo?

Does anyone know the time line for proto (bar stamp) and rainbow 8x rocs? From what I have heard the bar stamp (rectangular bar) were the first and then came the rainbow proto 8x's. Does anyone know when they were made and how many of each were made? I just got my first rainbow and am looking for a bar stamp proto and a regular 8x roc so if anyone is looking to sell one please let me know.

I have also seen a yellow 8x with a rainbow stamp... very nice. It did not look dyed. The orange that I had was the exact same orange color as my proto aviar big bead with star stamp, so I don't think that was dyed either (although the discs were stored in plastic and I didn't feel them).
I bought either 16 or 18 8x last year... I think I have 6 left :( .

I'm pretty sure that someone asked dave this question years ago and he said there were no factory orange 8X ROCS. The only color they made were white. There were other molds made in different colors like the gold Gazelles, I have also seen a red 7X banshee and yellow 9X Gazelles.
And I was also under the impression that the Rainbow ROC came first, followed by the Bar stamped proto and then the regular production run 8X. There were however a test run of Ontarios made with the KC plastic that came before any of these. I had one in my possession for awhile before giving it to Wiggy.

Or collectible cars, baseball cards, comic books, antique furniture etc.....
I own a test shot streamliner with a hand signed note from Steady Ed. One 10 first test shots and the only one we could determine that was still unthrown.
Put it on ebay at one time to get an idea with a starting price of $499. No nibbles, not even any questions about the disc and if I remember right, less than 100 views.
Yet people were paying $400 + at the same time for the 1st run Champion Destroyers of which aproximately 2000 were made.
The disc now sits down in the Steady Ed museum at the IDG center.

And one more funny story that comes to mind. Back around early 2004 I put a mint hands on Aviar up for auction. Purple with yellow stamp - 175. It ended at $195. I'm thinking wow, I've got a few more of these. So I wait a few weeks as to not flood the market and then put up another. Mint, yellow with purple stamp - 175, the negative of the other. It only brings in about $50.
So it's basicaly a crap shoot everytime you try to sell something. You have to have the right disc, at the right time with the right people actually looking for it at that moment.

The stamp is correct for a first run, but I have never seen one in black. By the look if this disc its the correct plastic also.. the first run Avairs were a strange blend of pro plastic that I have not found with other older pro disc.. they almost have a stiff star fill to them.
If it is a dye job then its a **** good one. You can see the sheen on the disc that a dye job will normally dull. The sheen is also correct for this type of pro plastic. Price seems kinda high as you can find first run white ones for around $25.. As a collector I would not pay over $35-$40 for this disc and that would only be if I could see it in person.
I say its real and rare, but not worth $65. The seller is also legit.

"the flight plate seems as if it were done by the factory, but the bottom of the disc has more of a "flat black" color."
In the past, I've seen these pro aviars that have a "sheen" to the tops, while the bottom is a bit more muted. When they first came out, I got several pro aviars, and all where shiny on top. I actually had to work the plastic quite a bit to get the slick shine off, and beneath it was super grippy... The only problem with those aviars was how sharp the bead was.

Okay, this finally confirms my suspicion about the mysterious 1 1/2 run CE Teebirds. The first runs are a distinct blood red dense plastic. The 2nd runs are a dense dayglo yellow with the third runs being slightly more see through. This is a picture of a recently acquired what I thought was a first run. This one has the double ripple nipple on top that the 1st runs didn't have but the 1 1/2 did. Either way, the lip on these was different and the pronounced nipple on top was only on this run. Being that this one is made out of the undeniable blood red 1st run CE plastic, I'm sure these nipple discs are an oddball run that slid in between the 1st and 2nd run. Sorry to rant, just excited to finally get some evidence to my theory.

Did any 10x aviars have a swoosh stamp or were they all bar stamped?
To my knowledge all 10x AViars and Rocs had the Bar Stamp not the swosh. Thats how used ones get identified if you cant see the writing below the Bar.

For some reason they don't go for much. I hear even though they're flat, they are a little flippy. I see them going on eBay for around $25-$35 shipped.

Innova is running champion sharks again so probally no collector value right now. However if you have the original CFR/CE Sharks then there is a market for those. The originals were as stable as the CE ROCS and just as durable.

I would like to get an opinion on a few disc's. Need to know what run and what price you think I can get for them. I am trying to sale them for a friend and we have a difference of opinion as to what I can get for them.
First up:
CE FX Firebird
http://i1033.photobucket.com/albums/a411/tndiscgolf/Beck/fb_f.jpg
It shows 168g.. Has been thrown.. Has ink.. 8 out of 10.
CE TeeBird TL
http://i1033.photobucket.com/albums/a411/tndiscgolf/Beck/tb_f.jpg
It shows 174g.. Has been thrown.. No ink.. Still has flashing 9 out of 10.
CHAINS AVIAR
http://i1033.photobucket.com/albums/a411/tndiscgolf/Beck/SMA_f.jpg
It shows 175g.. never thrown.. MINT.. 10 out of 10.
If any of you can provide what run and aprox price that would be great.

Just my opinion:
FX- 4th run ( ? ) 30-40, used....possibly a little high.
TL- 3rd run ( ? ) 40-60, imo thats low, depends on use. Those TLs arent everywhere.
DX Aviar- New- 40-60, but dont be suprised if higher.
I would pay the most for the Aviar, then the TL, if I were buying them. The FX is actually pretty common, and looks like the Taffy run. They are good, but are all over.

So I just was outbid on that pow roc... Went for 1025. I bid 1000. Crazy!
In other news... Question for 01 clear roc collectors: I just received an original, unthrown, but part of the stamp dropped out, and it looks like the original owner filled in part of the dropout with black sharpee. It looks bad, and I noticed it within seconds of opening the package. This was not disclosed to me. What should I do? I assume this really lowers it's value. The disc is mint beyond the ink filling in the stamp (not counting the normal air bubbles in those clear discs...)

Maybe they did that at Zonedriven? One of my clear '01s has part of the stamp filled in with Sharpie too. Unless a bunch of the original owners all got together, or the same person owned our discs. (Which is possible too). I don't think it lowers the value at all. It's still a brand new unthrown disc. There are so few of these things that I think things like that shouldn't matter too much.

Actually Billy was laying on a picnic table getting a some work done on his back by Kyle Maute when we opened the case of clear 01's. And to the best of my knowledge, there were none with sharpie markings on the stamp. Granted we didn't examine every one with a magnifying glass as we were trying to pick out discs for ouselves and this was almost 9 years ago. The one black stamp that i owned had no sharpie marks on it. Sold it to Kelly Watson and not sure if he still has it.
Is there part of the stamp that is black foil? If the answer is yes then the person to ask would be Trey Johnson as he is probally the one that stamped the discs at the east coast warehouse. He still works there.
As for value, if it's still unthrown I really couldn't see the value drop that much. Remember that a few were dyed over the years and still fetch good money as well as the ones that were thrown.

Most, if not all I have seen have been dyed. They arent worth much more than a standard Rhyno. Someone told me or I read somewhere that those were done with that stamp because they were a stiffer version than what was out at the time.
Either way, $20-25. One run, could be worth something down the road.

Not sure on how many runs were made in the smaller diameter. I have proto Hammer's with the Star and the Football stamps. Then was the mallet // basket stamp, and another that DTW made.
Wasn't around long before they retooled to the larger diameter. Maybe less than a year like the Roc.

Thinking somone who may want to remain anonymous paid nearly $1300 in his quest for one a couple of years ago. Definately rarer than the 01 in the fact that these were never offered for sale at any time. Just given away. I offered $400 to Michel Jo's brother less than 2 hours after he got his from Innova and he passed.
The one I'm talking about is still with the original owner and has never traded hands. We all know him and his company. I talked to him this weekend about it and brought up the fact that he may be in the market to sell and wanted to know if I was interested. I delined but told him I would put some feelers out there to guage interest.

Learn who the players are, network with them here, Facebook, and other discussion groups. I finished a complete set of HOF discs right here on this discussion board. I've also got some harder to find discs here, white Coupe and yellow 2002 Roc.
Try to settle into one catagory. I collect everything flying disc. If I were starting now I would collect USDGC Roc's , Eagle's from 1983 and CE.
Watch eBay to see what the bottom and top is for the discs you want to collect. Then you'll know when to buy and when to pass.

Without getting into a long disertation, 2nd Runs where very flat and mostly yellow... some had a 2001 BG Open stamp on it. BG open in 2001 was run in 3/31/01...USDGC was 10/10/01 plenty of time to get another run or two in...

Definately not a 1st run. Red and blue discs make horrible colors for dying. Number of other colors in 2nd run including yellow and white. While the USDGC did take place on 10/10/01, these discs were stamped and dyed well in advance. I was at the factory that summer and remember seeing the stacks of them back near where they originally kept the clothes. There were also stacks of these lime green blank CE ROCS sitting on a table waiting to be stamped.
Funny thing. I sold a 3rd run USDGC CE Valk to Josh and within a week of getting it, it had suddenly became a 1st run. And his asking price was 5 times what he paid me for it through auction.

Hey Channel Z , san marino rocs came out in '88, in '90 they went to the larger version. Max weight for the small ones was 175. 180 for the large ones. That stamp is from 94. Chase here is my understanding. The Rainbow is the kc proto ROC and was the first batch done. The bar stamped batch came after. Something like a 2nd proto run. The numbers of 2000 come from a guess actually. Dave has said that when they release a "first run" bathc it fills a pallet. Depending on the diamater of the disc this usually means around 2000 +/-.
I do know the plastic is nothing like the dx plastic. Same feel as kc and the familiar white specs also found in the 8x and 9x rocs.
