The Bowling Green Disc Golf Club would like to invite you to the amateur championships at Bowling Green, KY. We are very excited about this year's event and can assure you that this will be the best yet. Payouts will be the highest they have ever been! The players pack is also looking to be one of the best ever as well.

So far, we have 5 disc golf vendors that will run events throughout the week at 6 of the courses being used.

We will also have a huge flymart during the players party.

This year all competitors will have the chance to check in at tournament headquarters beginning on Tuesday. Players packs will be available at that time.

We will also be holding a raffle for 2 chances to win entry into the tournament.

We will be doing the three day format once again with play starting on Friday afternoon and ending on Sunday.

Stay tuned for more information. We will not be monitoring this thread, but will try to keep this thread updated. Information will be updated on a frequent basis on our website. Please check the forums section for info and to ask questions.

I'll do my best to keep people informed. I know that there was a lot of complaints about that last year, so hopefully it will not occur this year.

Did I mention the raffle? $15 for the 1st ticket and $10 for each extra. $15 is not a bad offer to win a $60 entry. Plus if you don't win the spot you could still win prizes at the players party!

Russ,
I lost all of last year because of injuries. Come on and practice for 1 last time at ADV Masters. Maybe we can finally play in the same group, on the top card. I will be practicing!! Guarenteed your competition in GM is not much from STL right now. Just wait until my time, it will be Pro GM, if the lord keeps me healthy.

Peace,

Since no one else has posted the information...

Pools A,B,C,and D

Kereiakes Park (long pads)
Hobson Grove
Nat's at Phil Moore Park
Franklin-Simpson (short pads)

Pools E,F,G, and H

Preston Miller
Basil Griffin
White Park
Lovers Lane

There is a contingency plan in place in case Phil Moore is unplayable due to weather. If Phil Moore is unplayable, lovers lane will replace Phil Moore for pools A-D and Chalybeate Springs will replace Lovers Lane for Pools E-H

i would like to know what % of this tournament money goes to the pro's tourny later on in BG

Well since there is no Pro Tourney in BG this year associated with the BGDGC, 0%. I don't know what the case was in years past, but I can promise all Am's that 100% of all money, sponser and entry fees, is going towards BG Am's.

I will say this again, this will be the biggest payout's for BG Am's ever. The players pack is coming together and it will be fat as usual. World's is the only Am players pack that can compare. The biggest difference between this year and years past is that no Pro's have had their hand in making the decisions. This has all been put together by amateur players.

I'm hoping to play BG Ams this year. Here's my promise, assuming I play: If you keep your promise, I'll tell the world. If you don't, I'll still tell the world.

I only saw three tournaments meet or exceed those standards in 2009, in chronological order:

Harbin Rat (Cincinatti)
Roscoe's Revenge (Medina, Oh)
Am Nats (Milford, MI)

I had not heard the big pro BG event wasn't happening this year. That was always a big event. But I had heard money raised in the Am event went to the pro weekend, reducing the Am payout. Honestly, the players packs are so sweet, nobody should be too ill by the payout. Sure, everyone would like to see a fatter payout, but just cashing (as high as possible) is something to be proud of. Took me four events (in the "modern era" ;-) to accomplish that and I'm hoping I can do it this year. Gotta stop losing all my drivers in the ponds on the new course here tho! ;)

Isnt Chuck valuing payout barely above wholesale prices in order to fatten it up?? I could have swore he said something similar, or was that Josh's plan for the Green Series??

Not a major. Pros under 970 can play Advanced.

jarmiller
Jan 05 2010, 01:53 AM
To answer some questions:

This is not a major, it's an A tier. The largest for AM's.

JD answered the one about Phil Moore. All courses in BG have concrete Tee pads.

Not sure how the TD is valuing the payout but I beleive that it is just a little above wholesale. Don't quote me on that though.

On a side note Disc Golf Shop and More is running a series called the Green Series. If you can play in these it would be a good preview of BG AM's. Plus they have a great players pack planned.

I agree with the comment about Harbin Rat and Roscoe's revenge. Theses were great tournaments and BG will be on that same level if not above it.

I've only been to Bowling Green one time and it wasn't for this tournament. I haven't played Phil Moore, but I was quite fond of Lover's Lane. That being said, if it comes to a vote I'd much rather have Lover's Lane in the Advanced Field. That or all rounds in Franklin, that was my favorite course.

Trey133
Jan 07 2010, 10:45 AM
Lovers lane reminds me of a true Kentucky course, with the blue grass all over the course, the length, the cow pastures by hole 2 and such.

All in all, that was a beautiful course.

jarmiller
Jan 07 2010, 01:14 PM
Richard: I would try to make it to BG once before the tournament to play Phil Moore. There's not a lot to it except that it's super long with OB's and some wooded holes. The reason Phil moore is used for Adv is because it's more of an adv course then Lovers.

Trey: If you think Lovers is a great looking course, wait until you play some of the others. Griffen is not that eye catching but has a beautiful pond/lake that runs through it.

Depends on my rating. I want it to go up, but I just dont want to play Phil Moore and Franklin. You really dont know how much I despise those 2 courses. You cant score there. Some things that I have failed to mention:

6 of the 8 courses being used will be having events leading up to tournament play. 6 of these courses have been locked in by course sponser which are;

1. Dynamic Discs @ Preston Miller Park
2. Sun King Discs @ Kerikus and Lovers Lane
3. Poor Boy Discs @ Hobson Grove
4. LS Discs @ Basil Griffen
5. Disc Golf Shop and More @ White Park

Each of these course sponsers will be running doubles and other events. This is a great way to play the course and win some cash. Most will offer some kind of players pack.

Vibram is sponsoring both rounds on Sat. The TD is working on all the rounds being sponsored, like last year. Win your card and you receive a disc or something else.

So not only do you get a fat players pack, but a chance to win something after every round. Plus the biggest payouts ever for BG AMs.

Remember only the first 500 will receive the premium players pack.

Also, if you can provide a $100 cash sponsor, you receive a free entry.

I'm not sure who makes that decision. But it never has been, although, it should be. Maybe next year something can be worked out, but usually it's done by a percentage. So the top 10% would roughly be the top 20-30 players.

It's amazing that over 500 players each year pack this town of 50,000+, and at one point there are at least 4 players on every hole in town, on 8 courses.....epic

BG open april 24th..................i wonder how money will be slipped over to that tourament?.........i bet they say none of it will, but hey ,been there none that

The club has already decided to cut the tournament a check from their own funds, not the tournament now.

For the past 2 yrs all I hear is you complain about the tournament. Why dont you actually come up to BG and try to improve it if you think you can instead of criticizing behind a computer?

Also, nothing ever indicated with 100% certainty that there was or wasnt going to be a pro tournament. I do know initially there were no plans, until the Pro TD decided he wanted to run another event, so you might want to get off your high horse while you still can.

Kid, why do you even care? You complained about world's last year, then signed up. Let me spell it out for you; Z E R O of the BG AM money is going towards the Pro tournament. I've already stated that once on here before. I've been personally involved with handling the payout, and players pack. This will be the biggest BG payout ever! The players pack could be the best ever as well. I don't understand where the negative comments are coming from. If your not playing in the tournament, why do you even care. You should sign up, and come play. See if you can prove me wrong. Otherwise stop bashing something that you have no idea about, it makes you look like a jerk.

If you do a seperate distance competition for the women I know I would participate. I can throw far for a female disc golfer, but not 500+!! I cap around 420'. What is the cost for the distance competition on Thursday? We have made arrangments so that my fiancee can compete. We are very excited!!

Innova let us know on Friday that they will have a seperate division for women. Not sure what the prize will be. Cumberland? I'm not sure where that it is. Check with mapquest. As close to I-65 is where you want to be. Thanks for the comments.

Hi, I sent out my registration via snail mail last week (3/2). However, the check has not cleared which makes me concerned with the March 8th deadline for the premium players' pack. Since the player list is only at 301, are there still 199 premium packs left? Or is today the final day? My registration will definitely show a postmark of early March-if that makes a difference. For the record, I am registering for Advanced Masters. Thanks, Scott 'Bernie' Burnham #23932

If you signed up on the 8th or before, your good for the premo players pack.

It's never been stated about people requesting the same pool. What has been said is that the PDGA will be handling the pool assignments and I believe their doing it by ratings. Plus there will be no pool shuffles. If you start out in Pool A, that is the pool you will remain in.

Bring your cash!! BG AM's will have, what I believe to be, the only second run Echo Star Kantana's with the tounament stamp. These will be a limited run and only available during players pack pick up nights and Friday night. We will also have regular star Katana's. As far as I know the only Echo Star Kantana's that are available is for the President's cup which is sold out, unless you want to pay $40+ dollars for one on ebay. Plus I think the only star Kantana's I've seen are the fundraiser's for Pro World's. We will also have Pro and Champ Kantana's.

I'm not sure how many spots are left in Adv. I think there are 4 pools of 72 available. 3 pools for Int and one for Rec/Jr. So there should be plenty of room for the Adv field. Good question and I'll check on it.

On a sad note, Rec will have to play Lovers and White on the same day. The reason is if Phil moore gets rained out the the Adv pool will get switched from Phil Moore to Lovers. Int and Rec will get switched from Lovers to Chelbyte.

Just got more of the players pack stuff in. So know we have half of the stock and I'm out of room in the garage. Storage unit here I come!

If you play on the same team more than once than you only have to pay $10 per team after the first round but if you switch teams around then it's $20 as it's that teams first round. I figured it would be cool to allow people the chance to play more rounds or switch partners if they were unhappy with their other rounds.

Were hoping that it will be in the players pack. If it's not then I doubt it will be available for sale. I know Gateway is hard at work to get it out.

Gateway is working constantly to perfect the mold, but it is very difficult, as are all wide wings drivers. He's also trying to debut his new Scout midrange.

Forgot to mention the CFR Glow Teebird+.

I was also asked about discs being sold out before Thursday or Friday.

We will only set out a certain number each night at the check in for sells. This is to give everyone a chance to get their hands on some limited edition discs. On Friday night all discs will be available and it will be the final night for sales. This is to not create competition for the flymart sponsors.

A,B,C,D- Adv/(I think)Adv Masters

E,F,G- Int/(I think)Grand Masters and Int women

H- Rec/JR/(I think Rec Women)

Pool assignments will be up soon on the PDGA Web Site.

I'll try to get addresses but I know they will be in the caddy book. I will have a caddy Book by Tues next week so I can post them then. Btw the caddy book is the best weve ever had.

Thanks Audi for posting the pools. Sorry I was a little ignorant on the pool assignments.

For everyone that is coming please try and visit some of the course sponsors and thank them for being present. They are all offering some great deals for doubles. I can't really say who has the best because they range from awesome players packs to awesome payouts. Just a recap of who will be here at which parks:

Dynamic Discs- Preston Miller Park pools E-H
LS Discs- Basil Griffen Park pools E-H
Sun King Discs- Lovers Lane and Keriekus Pools E-H and Pools A-D
Poor Boy XC Tier event- Hobson Groove- Pools A-D
Disc Golf Shop and More Green Series (Local company)- White Park Pools E-H
HB Clark disc golf designs and AT&T series- Phil Moore Pools A-D

On top of everything that has been going on, we already have at least one major sponsor for next year. Several other companies have already contacted me about sponsorship for next year as well. Thanks in advance to everyone who will be coming!

Not quite yet. What were thinking at this point is to use riverview as a starting point and playing some safari holes at Hobson. There's also something special for the ones that make it to the final 9. Can't say what it is yet.

We do have a small hiccup with the players pack. The nukes will not be here till next week but we should have them all by Thurs or Friday. If you don't get one you will receive a coupon to receive yours before you leave BG. So no worries!

B,

I'm glad that you've taken the first step in admitting you have an addiction, I do to. That will be determined by this weekend but most likely were looking at $15-$20 per disc. If you plan on $20 then you should have some extra cash left over to buy more!

Do you know when you'll be updating pre-reg? I pre-reged three days ago but it has not been updated since.

Do you know that you have three players pre-reged for lower divisions that are rated too low for those divisions? I checked to see if they were good under the "recent ratings update" rule. They are not. I sent the names to an e-mail address associated with the tournament but did not receive a response. I understand it is crunch time for a big event like this. I don't need a response. If you need the names again, I could look again.

We have had several questions coming in about the BG Am's warmup at Hobson, although you are able to register online it is not mandatory and you can sign up any time the day of or friday before noon. The warmup will be broken down by division, so players will be playing against others at their skill level not against the entire field. There will be a prize payout with roughly $10of each entry going to the payout which will be vouchers redeemable from Poor Boy Discs at the flymart or at Hobson throughout the weekend. Anything I didn't cover please continue to call and ask, see everyone next week, it is going to be great...

These are the two remaining players signed up for a division for which they are not eligible:

Recreational:

CHARLES ADAMS 38886 Yes 901 Bowling Green KY USA
901 rated since October 20, 2009

ANDY DOBELSTEIN 14116 919 Bowling Green KY USA
Rated 919 since sometime in 2009

Unless being from Bowling Green is an exception to the PDGA ratings-based divisional format.

ha, just messing with you......the td....the club....the pdga....the players in question....are all aware of this situation. The players in question are going through a pdga petition, for various reasons, to find out if they can drop down to rec.

If you would like to be involved in that decision making as well, please contact Dave Gentry at the PDGA.

No reason calling out td's and players in wrong divisions when you don't have proper information, and it's really none of your concern...save that for the court room, council:)

When they do, I will. It is just a little strange that the recreational division is full with local intermediates and out-of-town rec players have to sign up for intermediate.

How is this different from any other tournament?

But to answer your question, two rec players were waiting on a decision from the PDGA to see if they could play in the rec division. Why you ask? One had a severe injury that in the past HAS allowed PDGA approval to play down. One player had one or two high round ratings ever, thus he had an inflated rating. Case in point, last year an adv player had one round rating, 975, coming into BG. The PDGA said that he could play in INT, he chose to play in ADV where he was crushed. The third player your referring to is somewhat of a casual player and has not been current with the PDGA since '09. The TD did not know his rating until he signed up for the PDGA. He is also not a "local." BG is following the PDGA protocol as has the 80+ other tournaments that I've been to. It was made very clear in the beginning what the cap was for the Rec division. If someone procrastinated, as disc golfers do, to sign up and could not get into their desired division we cannot be blamed.

These problems are being worked on and the TD verified today that he has responded to all email's.

So far this year we have had positive vibes on this board, let's continue that. If anyone has a problem or concern send me a PM. I will answer it within a timely manner.

Today is the last day for reg. If you want in today is the day to do it. For those of you that are coming down, at least 450, THANK YOU!!! Chuck has put a lot of time and effort into this tournament and you will not be disappointed!

I would hope the PDGA would not approve the request for a 919 rated player (from Bowling Green) to play down in the Recreational division. There are only 19 players in the 139 player Intermediate division that are rated higher than him!! Of course we don't have access to the stats (as he is not PDGA current), so we can't see if the rating is a fluke or not.

In my experience, the PDGA only approves division dropping when the rating is within a few points of the cut-off and there are other circumstances.

The 919 player was not the one in question. He's already been moved to the Int division. The one that was in question due to a severe injury is still being determined by the PDGA and I believe his rating was more like 905 or 909. I know that I played in one event where a guy was rated 920 with a cast still on his leg that was allowed to play rec. He crushed the rec field with a cast.

Bruce your 880 daughter smoked me and several others at the Harbin rat. I think she may be ready for adv women. Plus now there is only one player rated above 900 in rec that has approval from the PDGA to play in Rec. Now please understand that I'm not trying to be rude but, the rec division was still open 2 weeks ago. Registration has been open since January so there has been plenty of time to get in on the division of your choice. With that being said the TD is still going to check if it's possible to get her in Rec. Be sure you say hi when you check in, I'll be there all week. I need to get this out there for all who are keeping tabs.

Please be sure when checking in to check your bag for the correct items. I will have a list of what should be in your players pack. I either counted wrong when setting out the players pack premo items or missed a couple, notice I said a couple. If you walk away without checking your bag there's nothing I can or will do about it the next day. The reason is I don't want someone coming to me two days later saying they didn't get something when they did. I have an est of how many were left out, and yes I was near perfect with a 1% failure rate. Nonetheless I DON'T want someone getting short changed on their players pack. We worked hard to get it, and you paid good money to receive it.

Also check your shirt size, if it's wrong you can switch it out anytime during the tourney.

Which divisions are having a (dreaded) Final 9 holes? Which divisions are not having a Final 9 ? I say dreaded as I have about 8 hours to drive home Sunday night. In my lame opinion, the lowest score obtained for 72 holes over 3 days is a very worthy accomplishment. I don't know who benifits from a Final 9 after 72 holes in a Am only tournament. I think feldberg and a few others have the record of 72mph.....if anybody knows about a faster speed.....let me know.

84 mph for me... NOT!!!

I'm pleased to announce that HUK Lab is on board. They will have a fly mart table and I believe they are adding stickers to the players pack. What I'm really excited about is that they are adding something special to the womens players pack, sorry fellows. He wanted to do more but I dropped the ball in getting in contact with him in a timely manner.

If the ladies could please go by their fly mart table on Sat and say thanks it would be appreciated. I think Liz Carr will be running the table. I'm jeoulsy of what Huk Lab is providing.

ADV, ADV Masters, INT, REC, Pretty sure ADV Women not sure about the other women divisions.

Not Advanced GRANDMaster? That division has the same, maybe one more player, than Advanced Master. Just curious. So long as we know going in, it's all good.

LOL! You're probably right, Steve! I've been trying to practice for this one, but I'll probably be ready to spectate after Sunday's round! I'd probably be watching the other old guys play THEIR final! Weather looks good, so that will be on less excuse for not performing!

Will C. and I will be leaving Friday morning and arriving shortly after noon.

I'm looking for someone in Pool G, Advanced Grandmasters (or women) for a ride between Lovers and White on Saturday afternoon and hopefully a ride back to the Scottsville Road area. I know a couple of folks in the pool, Ron Pittman, Razor Ray, Ernie Small and Jan McDonald.

Looking forward to this one.

I should have mentioned this earlier, but maps will not be needed for the courses. We have a great program this year with maps, directions, and addresses.

I would like to apologize in advance. The last couple of days we've had difficulties with the players packs. I'm hoping to have that resolved tonight. The problem has been finding the right one so I have not been able to get people in and out in a timely manner. I hope to break that chain tonight.
