I booked 2 nights at the Red Roof Inn off Scottsdale Rd. They're not the host hotel, but money is tight. I got a King Size Bed for $43.99 a nite, plus tax. I also get 20% off when I get there for being a PDGA member. Don't know if they have any rooms yet. The only bad thing...NO POOL/HOT TUB!

Jack and discinmusician, we got our room at the Red Roof, two double beds, two nights, for $115 total. No indoor pool, but that's OK. Wifi and continental breakfast is nice. The PDGA discount was very helpful.
Couple more hours of work tonight and we're outta here about 9 a.m. tomorrow! Ready for a fun weekend of golf!

How can a long time local TD, 3 digit PDGA member who won $2148 dollars in 2009, and $1646 in 2008 be tied for 13th you ask?
Rating under 970 - and the Event NOT being a Major, Worlds or USADGC is the reason - I'm sorry but in my opinion it should be for guys rated under 970 that took cash once back in the day - not someone who consisitently cashes in Pro Events EVERY YEAR.

We had some hiccups that WILL be ironed out next year. Planning will begin in June or July. We will continue to strive for improvement, you have my promise!

My wife told me after my 14 months of not playing with injuries, go play, but, the deal is you have to have fun.
Guess what I did this weekend.
What more can you ask for, wonderful weather, grateful competition, and the best of all, meeting other new players you will never see, but in big tournys.
Peace to all, and I had a grateful time in BG. I have a few things I need to improve. This is what I thought about on the ride home today.

There is a hugh learning curve but your company all weekend was enjoyable. You are learning like the rest of us. Just know, MM1 pool is the one you always want to TD if you can. It was pretty simple amongst the old mans group, huh.

Man, I can't say enough about this event.
I loved every course and both nights at the Knights of Columbus were sweet. I played Advanced and I had fun on all four cards I played on. It was refreshing to see that everyone was positive and kept things light on the courses. I was worried I might get a stuffy crowd with folks from so many different places and it being an A-tier...
But it was just the opposite. Everyone I played with pushed the other people on our card to do well and encouraged good play from each other. The weather? perfect!
I will definitely be back. I love my CFR Katanas and the players packs were money. I love the classy water bottle and the dry-fit shirt.
Will the US Amateur Nationals qualifiers be posted here? I'm hoping I made the cut with my 30th place finish. Thanks again to all TD's and people behind the scenes who made things happen. Dutch did a great job running the A-pool.

Not sure we will post the results. I know they are taking the top 20% and I would guess Wiggans is already qualified. I would wait a week or two and check the US AMs website to see if your name is there. Their pretty good about keeping it up to date.
The NC boys tore it up. I expect to see Wiggans playing Pro by 2012 in his backyard. What a player!

I thought the tournament team did a really good job with all the tournament details, things like getting scores up at the fly mart each night, getting leaderboards out to the courses early with scorecards, having a nice tournament book with course maps, o.b. and distances, and letting the junior girl play Mens Rec. :D She had a lot of fun.

I'm still on cloud 9,
Excellent tournament! The officials were amazing and nice/friendly/helpful/approachable and the players were amazing.
Kong and Daniel you guys rock! MVP goes to Kong's fiancee for keeping scorecard and spotting and just being awesome all weekend!
The final 9 layout was awesome and allowed the gallery to really see some great shots, since I don't have the arm the other advanced players had I was really hoping for some more woodsy holes, but thats no biggie at all!
One thing I would mention is that the B pool felt like ratings were a little low for Franklin, when we played it there were huge swirling winds everywhere, I didn't know if it was put in the TD report for that round, but wind was a huge factor on some scores there.
cgkdisc
Apr 12 2010, 01:02 PM
The wind would be taken into account automatically in the unofficial ratings calculation. Usually, all scores on the same course in different rounds will be averaged together at BG when the official ratings are done.

Great tournament, BG. I was very happy to be able to return to the BG Ams after missing it last year. The weather had to be some of the best in the history of the event. I recally a lot of cold, wet, windy events, but this past weekend was fantastic. It was one less excuse for my mediocre play.
The Advanced Grandmaster (and others) Pool G ran very smoothly from my perspective. Our pool TD kept everything lively, announcing players and hot scores when cards were turned in and was on time each round.
Had a blast at the dinner (wasn't there supposed to be barbecue? ;-) and the flymart. I always wait and load up on plastic, etc., at BG, since I can never make it to Worlds.
Had four great groups of "mature" players from Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, Tennessee and Kentucky. Thanks to Ron Pittman and John Strifler for the rides between rounds! It's tough being the guy that's dropped off every day.
The hiccups that occurred did not affect me and for an event of this magnitude, I think it went very considering a new crew was in charge.
Always hate when this one is over because I'll probably not make it to an event of this caliber until BG 2011.

Only question/complaint I have is that if it had been someone like David Wiggins Jr.(sorry for using your name just trying to make a point) would he had been pushed out of the final 9 if he were tied for 4th going in. I highly doubt it.
I had a blast at this tournament but was robbed of the chance to play the final 9 to win the intermediate division. I was told by 3 diff people that were help running the tournament (including my pool TD) that ties at 4th would play and then it was changed. Just kinda looks bad on the TD staff to not have his helpers knowing what was going on.
No hard feelings though it was a great tournament and I will be back. Congrats to the winners! They could have followed the rule. In the absence of a waiver, they were obligated to follow the rule. But if you did not know the rule and request that they follow the rule, the fault would not be entirely theirs.

Glad you had a great time Bruce, but please stop calling Kari a jr girl. I have to say this about Kari, as much as I wanted to hate her play, I couldn't. This young lady should be a poster of how to act during tournament play. Zero rules violations, zero outburst, zero negative attitude. I really don't think I ever saw her make a "bad" shot. When she did she easily got out of trouble. I tell you who she reminds me of, Des Reading. Graceful drives, graceful upshots, and graceful putting. She didn't have a big arm but her shots were right on the money.
Pro champion in two-three years? I can see it happening.

It's tough going home and admitting to everyone you got beat by a 14 year old girl. Myself included...It's quite humbling. Even better yet, that a 14 year old "boy" whooped up on some 160 other players. It all comes down to technique and form. Neither of which I have. Weekends like this, being around great players as the above 2 mentioned, make me re-evaluate the sport of disc golf and why I play. Excellent weekend. Enjoyed it very much. I personally played over 150 holes of golf, and am ready for a week off. I always look forward to BG AMS!

I think the ace pot came out to be $80-100, not sure though. There were 13 aces I beleive. The reason was the final 9 was being counted as part of the ace pot. This has been done at several tournaments. I know the TD is either sending them out this week or already has. I'll check with him.

Thanks for the update. I know at least one acer wasn't in on the ace fund. I understand keeping the final 9 in on the aces but don't see how that would make it take two weeks to pay out... Great tourney and looking forward to attending next year.
