Mike is conversing with animals again.

So, I see some rain might be moving through. Will WillY still remain dry? Has it been mowed?

Dry, no standing water after the little shower this morning.
The course is in the best condition that TXDGC has ever witnessed. I was playing a few holes with Avery and Valerie, Leroy and Sharon, all Jenkins....I'm not name dropping, just stating the facts...where was I?...Oh, yeah - Low water levels (esp on dragon), shortish grass(thank you, drought). Temps ;are perfect, the weekend is predicted to be excellent. Get excited players!

Was out there at lunch...

A touch breezy, but otherwise perfect conditions (as viewed from HQ).

Lots of lucky folks out there enjoying the afternoon as well.

What is up with the Payout??????

3rd in masters is getting more than 3rd in open? $1600-$1000-$500 is nuts with 3rd in open getting $550

Looks like the course assignments need to be updated to get appropriate ratings. I'm guessing everyone didn't play the same course each round?

You are correct, Chuck. In years past at Tom Bass the format would be two 18-hole rounds Saturday (Powell and Wilmont once each) and a 27-hole round Sunday using part of both Powell/Wilmont plus extra tourney-holes to make 27.

Awesome job Houston.. THANK YOU STAFF AND SPOTTERS.. GREAT TIME GREAT COURSES AND GREAT PAYOUT... just a few suggestions for next year that i saw. 1. need spotter on the hole with the 2x mando 300 ft out,. that hole cost us $$ in doubles. 2. tourney course # 4 people where throwing from inside the rope by the dragon hole, was this OB for all holes or just dragon hole??? 3. keep this years lost and found discs separate from last year as I never found my t-rex and it was time consuming looking threw the 2 boxes from last year.

2. tourney course # 4 people where throwing from inside the rope by the dragon hole, was this OB for all holes or just dragon hole???

OB rules in the program stated:

Tourney OB
...
#4 Parking lot, concrete or beyond of pavilion, and into white staked area of Dragons Tongue
#5 Parking lot, outside of OB string , street, inside of Dragons Tongue
...

Agreed that it was in the program. However, it was still confusing for many of the players. Perhaps a review of the course, the program, and available spotters would lead to less confusion next year.

Thanks to all the players that came out and enjoyed the event. especially those from out of town.

Thanks to all the tournament staff and volunteers. Great Event!

Congratulations to Matt O. for his impressive victory over a great field.

Looking forward to seeing all of you next year.

What a fun weekend!!!! This was all of San Angelo's first States, and I think we all play on coming back next year now....hopefully with a few more CVDGAers. Thanks to everyone that put this one, I know there are a bunch of you. Things like this don't got as smooth as this one did without a ton of help. Also thanks to all the spotters, sitting around watching while we have all the fun is a tough job....and an appreciated one!!!

Congrats to Nick Rowton and Carl Wamsley on you guys Open payout finished. Way to go for the first time at States. Also it was good to put a few faces with DISCussion board names. Hope to see you guys at the next one!

I was wondering whose finger that was!

It was a great tournament; I can't say enough about all the work the volunteers put in to have it run that smooth. Thanks!!

I've also managed to upload a few photos to the CVDGA website - here (http://conchovalleydiscgolf.org/e107_plugins/autogallery/autogallery.php?show=Texas%20State%20Championships %20%2709).

I just want to give a big Thanks to some people who really made a difference and went out of their way Saturday for my children and all the other little guys and gals who are surely to be the future of disc golf here locally in Houston.

First the entire Stillwagon family- Matt thanks for organizing the junior 9 - my 2 little ones were pretty nervous about playing DG in an organized manner but quickly warmed up to it and truly had a blast - dude they are hooked!! You should hear them in the backyard throwing at the practice basket for an ace...I see them doing their warm-up then the throw - it fly's fast and hard past the basket and hits the fence "WHACK" followed a loud AGGGHHHH!!!

Just like being at SV except a different explicative after hearing the disc hit a tree!!! hilarious!

My daughter (Dakota) was warming up at the pracftice basket with the other little ones and got hit by a disc - I think this kind of embarrassed her more than anything and a little meltdown started to occur, but Rae-Ann stepped in real quick and made Dakota feel comfortable again with a great little pep talk and then Big "C" Conall started chasing her around tickling her, making her feel right at home, and she was back in the game, an awesome young man! (who nailed a 40' birdie putt BTW - that little guy is a stud) look out Houston DG'ers he's coming up fast!!

Big thanks go out to the infamouse Seth johnson who took his time with all the juniors - making each one of them feel like they were the most important kid on the card, they were having a blast and playing their round and never once felt rushed -awesome job dude!

Suemac - my kids think their towels are the S%$#*&! they absolutely love them, they watched several of the pros throw at a basket near our cooler at the playground, who held their towel in one hand while throwing their putter with the other - guess what ? My kids are holding their Tye dye towels in one hand now and throwing with the other...LOL

Val Jenkins - Thanks for signing my daughters EliteZ "Rainbow" Buzzz - it will be epic in about 10 years when she's playing with you in a tourney and pulls it out again and says "Hey Val, my favorite disc is a little outdated, it says Val Jenkins 2X, would you mind updating it to Val Jenkins 12X?"

It really impressed me that in the middle of the biggest tournament around here all year - so many of the local hardcore disc golfers devoted so much of themselves to the little ones and really made them all feel very special. Thanks to all of you, your an awesome group of people and a group I'm proud and privilaged to now know and get to hang out with and throw disc with.:):):):):)

Oh man, I wish I would have introduced myself as well now(I was the long haired one)...I kind of got a picture in my head of you though. Thanks again for taking the pic. As for getting in...It was late, but we made it.....Work sure sucked yesterday though.

BTW- Happy Birthday!

Thanks Jason! I've somehow managed to cheat the grim reaper for another year! Ha-ha!

It sure is cool that you all travelled down for this gig. All of HFDS puts a ton of passion into this event and we probably get the greatest reward when folks like you come from far away and think that it was worth thr time, trouble and expense to do.

I think I can safely speak for the whole HFDS crew and say Thanks for coming and playing in Texas State DGC...you honored us!

You can tell there is a passion for this event from the HFDS by the way it was run, all the people willing to not play and help run it, and just by how smooth things went. Been to a lot of tourneys were there was some mass confusion....So Great Event HFDS!!!!

and to Fishead (if this is the same fishead that played fantasy football in the sunking league)..... bUNgles suck!!!!!!! HERE WE GO STEELERS!!!!

I'm curious. There seemed to be a lot of questions regarding the putter that was given in the players pack. Was that the new R-Pro Aviar?

Apr 09 2009, 04:48 PM
I was wondering the same thing. It seemed firmer than the dart I have here at the shop, but then when it sat in the sun for a couple of minutes it got real soft feeling. Wasn't sure if that was just because it was black and soaked up the sun, or if it was R-Pro.

Standard DX Aviars. R-Pro was not an option when we placed the order for custom stamped TxSDGC discs.
