I'm going to hand your disc to you. Not sure where I lost you on that one. You see 3 years ago when you stated here that you wanted your disc I was willing to ship it to you. If you had supplied an address this would have never have happened and you wouldn't have this boiling inside of you. Now I really don't feel like shelling out s/h when I know I'll see you at a course real soon.

To clarify once more. The next tournament that we both attend.
Follow so far.
I will hand you your disc.

You should have checked your pm's, as it was sent, as well as I have seen you in person probably 25+ times since then. It was also several discs from winning DL doubles, and discs for my partners those events. One was JB, who hasn't been seen in two years, and i couldn't tell you who the other was, but possibly it was MJ. And with your gracious ability to clarify, I wonder how anyone could have perceived an implied threat of harm in your previous post. But you know, not everyone is the DirtyHarry type of person who is willing to turn the other cheek.

Once again I apologize for hijacking the thread. There are times when a man must defend himself and his reputation. I am trully sorry that Craig decided to use your thread to call me out and that I decided to reply here.

As a way to make ammends with the folks in RADL please let the powers that be with the Buckhorn Open know that I am gladly donating a number of CTP's to the event. I'll go through the stash and will provide a definite answer before the event on the number I'm bringing.
Once again I apologize.

Jan 25 2008, 12:40 AM
these 2 quotes kinda go hand in hand dont ya think rick? i pm'd you when I read your comment and asked for clarification.... no response. Personal attack?... sounds like one... slander?... sounds like that too.

either way... i dont think i've ever met you since I started playing after DL was history... but if you did know me you'd know your statements couldn't be farther from the truth... i could've retaliated to your statement below by saying the things that have since been brought up and more that i've 'heard' about you but I won't stoop that low. Since you are evidently in the mood to defend/explain yourself... please reply to my PM so I can have some point of clarification on where your perceptions came from.

Speaking on the last few pages of your posts... its good to hear your side of the story since I have heard countless versions from people around here on the other side.

Black Was Deceiving

Stack part of the problem is your reputation and history of personal attacks on message boards both here and the Charlotte site. If it has been all in fun then you need to explain that to all the folks you've "ripped in humor". Then you may want to explain it to those you call friends who also think you carry things too far.

I'll leave you with a little story about your potential and what could have been. Without going into detail, you could of had something real special in this sport. Something that most competitive players covet. However you were passed over due to the fact that you don't know when to just shut up.

Slander (slan-der)

1. Law Oral communication of false statements injurious to a person's reputation.
2.A false and malicious statement or report about someone.

OK....I have to put in my two cents. Don't care if you you don't agree, but this thread is the only reading I've been doing all week. Got to say something. I am only speaking for myself.

I play to compete with my self. No one else. Yes, I play in tournaments with others who I'm am playing with/against, but I am only competing with myself. I want to be the best disc golfer I can be! The main purpose of my "rating" is to set a bar of where I need to be playing at or above. When, my rating goes up, I have a new standard for myself. If it goes down, I got some work to do.

Along the way I get to meet and play with cool people, learn things from some the great disc golfers around this area and enjoy Mother Nature at her finest and worst!

Isn't that what this game is truly about??? Ask yourselves why you play the game? To win lots of prizes, trophies, plastic, etc.???

For me, it's the game itself. That is the prize!

No Buckhorn for me, Jay. School work callin'.
Thanks for the link, Chuck. The clause at the bottom of the rating cutoff, the one about not receiving points for World invitations...does that mean a player who has previously accepted pro cash, and has a rating <970, can play advanced all year, and still not receive an Am Worlds invite for the next year? Just curious.
If so, I like that clause. And I think I like the ratings adjustment. I've seen discussion of good players who are at a top amateur level, but are not able to win cash when they play pro, for whatever reason. They accept cash, b/c it is a big milestone. But they get frustrated and discouraged, etc., when they have to compete against the pros, and stop participating altogether. This change could help keep guys active in the long run. Just a thought.

No one currently classed as a pro can enter Am Worlds even if they played Advanced all year leading up to it. They can switch back to a PDGA Am member if their petition is approved by the Tour Director. They can then play all am events.

If you mean register to enter an Am division in a regular weekend event, then yes. If you mean registering/renewing as a PDGA Am member, then the pro needs to petition the Tour Director and get approval to revert.

Ok, I have to speak my mind.

MAYBE some people enjoy playing in the best competition possible.

I'm just can't believe you or anyone else is giving people crap for playing the highest division possible!

I mean I remember playing advanced when I wasn't ready and getting my butt whipped. I remember one time being on the LAST CARD all weekend of the Alamance County Pro-Am. I remember finishing 55th at the am crosstown, but at least I wasn't taking advantage of people in intermediate.

I took my bumps and before long, I was (in my own opinion) at the time the best amateur in 4 or 5 states if not one of the best in the world when I won 7 adv tournaments in a pretty short span.

I no longer wanted that. Playing well and winning by 10, playing average and winning by 3 or 4 and playing poorly and finishing 3rd (all three I did) no longer became fun.

So I moved up to pro and took my bumps and now, guess what, I'm one of the top 20 players (and once again, in my opinion) in this state.

From last card advanced to top 20 in the state.

Why, B/c I took my bumps and probably played above where my current level belonged. I took it all in, learned by watching players better than me. I would step to a hole with a Roc and see 3 pros that were clearly better than me all throwing Firebirds. Stuff like that is really what helped me get where I am now.

If there was a division higher that what we have now that competed against all 1000 rated guys, I would compete in that. I love a challenge and competition.

Now stop getting on people who want to compete. It's annoying to read. I personally think that you playing adv. is laughable (esp. when you have beaten me and other good players many times), but that is the rules and I support the rules of this game, so I support it, but I do not support this crap about people who you think should be playing advanced based on ratings. MAYBE they want to actually have to play well to compete.

I play for competition, not prizes. I'm sorry if you need that satisfaction of hearing your named called every weekend to continue to compete in this great sport.

I feel sorry for the TRUE ams at the buckhorn open who will have to compete against someone who CASHED in OPEN in this tournament a year before.

PatrickColoton
Jan 29 2008, 12:13 AM
Hey Rob i agree, i play for the love of the sport but on the same token i think it is wrong for people to play Adv. if u cashed in Pro, i do not know if it the level of Pro in carolina cause it is above the bar, or if they get off beating up ams, I never try to b negative, but i must say that i would not feel sorry for some off those BAGGERS if they shoot porely, and Good Luck to the Real Ams at Buckhorn

Anyone complaining about people playing in a division they qualify in per PDGA standards has one of two problems:
1. They now have more competition in their division and are afraid they will not cash.
2. They no longer have enough players below them in their division so they won't cash anymore.

What's your problem???????????(directed at anyone who complained on this thread)

What? i don't follow your logic here buddy! Did you read Robert's post? Did you comprehend the fact that Chris Lee Agreed with him!!!!! That alone should cary some Huge merit in this argument.

They are talking about growth and over coming odds! Taking punches and getting back up. Do you not understand that?

Now before you go on one of your personal attack crusades and try to attack my character or game let me help you out:

My rating says I should be playing advanced. I didn't cash all year last year. Should I move daown? No I want to play with and eventually beat the best. I will do it its only a matter of time. Clee, Hoffman, McCree, Schwebberger, will one day be on the cards behind me. Stepping back because an organization takes a snap shot of your skills during a round of golf is crazy! Its also Lame in the eyes of the new Am's coming in to the sport that now have to play against you, but you probably don't care about them, just your self or you wouldn't be avoiding this talk.

So with that in mind, I'm going to use small words in the following statement so I am 100% fully confident you understand it. I mean, if you got big words down, these very small baby words should be no problem, right?

I have no issues with the PDGA rules. I am 100% in favor of letting people play in tournaments wherever they want to play. I feel we agree on this.

However, there are some who want to play in the pro division. While some stupid three digit number may say they do not belong there, they still want to do so. This is the same thing as you wanting to play in the advanced division. You are playing where you choose to.

All I'm asking is stop attacking those who are choosing to do so.

One question about peeps playn up.

Do top Pros really like playn with 910 rated or lower players? Take Michael HoHo at 1020 something playn with a 910er that's 11 strokes on average a round and that's if they play there average. Sorry I wouldn't want to play with a 870 rated player myself in a PROFESSIONAL TOURNAMENT. I know it says "Open" but I feel there should be a Minimal rating to play pro. Bag on Baggers. But sometimes you have to play the Group too if they talk the whole time, or [censored] and moan, not know the rules, throw out of turn, rush to next bench, take forever (with alot of shots). I don't want to deal with that in a Professional Tournament. I say play to your Suggested Rating Division unless your borderline then play up.
Why is disc golf highest division "Open" to all. I think this actually hurts the sport. What "spectator or sponsor wants to come to a tourney and the TD say here's one of our Pro group and it's players are rated 910 to 960 in a group he sees.

I asked a top pro this question after during the third round of a tournament. It was one of the elusive times last year that I had put my self in good position coming off saturdays play. In this particular case I was on the second card. I asked if it bothered top pros to have guys like my self on the card and hanging with the field. His response was. I think what MTL was trying to say was that: Robert Wyne would have called all of the cashing open players who are now playing in the advanced field Baggers! He used to call me a bagger all the time after I won an intermediate tournament! I never heard the end of it! I can still here his voice in my head -"Yoouuu Bagger!"

This thread has helped me realize a few things about my views of what a pro is. I guess I could say my view of the divisions has become more clear. I used to think, that because you cashed in an open event you were a Pro. I do not believe this anymore. All you are is an open div player who has cashed. I still will say that any of you who have cashed in open events need to stay in the open div, why did you move up in the first place? Stay there be a "Little Shark" Little Sharks bite to! With that If you move back down In the words the late Robert Wyne "Bagger"!!!! Its that simple. As far as being a Pro, thats something completely different. I have been a professional at many things in my life, and have learned that performance and money do not make you a professional. So to all of you bagging @ Buckhorn you are right you are not Pro's just fun loving bagging discgolfers ;)

Actually it's from ANYBODY (other than Dook fans) who watch college basketball. It's amazing what you can get away with when you're known "as a good defensive team". There's no way you can watch a Dook game and NOT come away thinking that more often than not they get the better side of the calls.

I remember seeing Maryland play at Dook a couple years ago and Coach K spent 3/4's of the game [censored] at the refs. If Gary Williams had done that he would have been booted from the game before the first half ended.

Although I'm definitely an ABD fan and a diehard Tarheel fan, I'll be the first to admit when we get a call or the zebs missed one. I know too many people who can be listening on the radio and insist the refs missed the call :D

First of all his name is not Malcom. It's Deron. Yes, he's a flop artist and I hate him too, but that is besides the point. Stop trying to deflect the attention away from Paulus. The only two differences between Washington and Paulus is that Paulus is the better actor and that the refs buy Paulus' flops and not Washington's. Paulus had a great 2nd half, but I can't respect him or Coach K because Coach K teaches him that crap and the fact that Paulus will go down at the slightest touch. He's a soccer player in a basketball uniform. He flops and he slide tackles and the refs love it.

Don't get me wrong here though. I don't think State would have won regardless of all of the ball kicking and flopping. Duke did outplay us in the 2nd half. But come on, Duke gets away with this crap year after year after year. I'm sick of it.

Ok. I'm done with my thread drift/rant.

I hear ya Toom, at the end of the game, the cream has rose. Paulus was the #1 Quaterback, that chose basketball. He must have been hard to take down at some point. I was glad I was at home watching the game, seeing what was happening, made a quick call, gave pointers, and Whammo, things changed. History.

I wrote an article a few years ago for a website that researched Duke's foul advantage.

When they played Duke, Duke had 26 more free throws.

FSU lost by one.

I can definitely agree with you about Washington. It was hysterical when the refs weren't giving him the flop calls and VT was paying for it because you can't play D when you're on the ground.

earlier this month, the San Jose Mercury News, examining data from 1994-97 (the last four-year period the NCAA used for documentation of grades and test scores), found that freshmen entering Duke on basketball scholarships during that period had an average SAT score of 968.

The average SAT score for Duke's freshman class as a whole is generally in the high 1300s

Perfect total on SATs has always been 1600 (800 max on math, 800 max on verbal) with a theoretical average score for all students, if they all took the test, around 1000. A score of 1300 qualifies people for Mensa which is the top 2% in IQ. I find it hard to believe the Duke freshman average would be over 1300 but I have heard that at Carlton College in Minnesota, the minimum SAT score required to enter is over 1300. But they have a better Ultimate team than basketball...

A perfect score on the SAT is actually 2400. It was 1600 for me, but in recent years they have added a new section to the test, which accounts for the additional 800 points...

Must be so some athletes finally have a chance to get totals over 1000 /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif Now it makes sense that the Duke freshman class could have totals over 1300. I checked and it looks like the change from 1600 to 2400 SAT max took place in 2005 with the addition of Writin' to the Readin' and 'Rithmetic sections.
