For real - this event has been great in it's first 3 years. Round Rock has an incredibly supportive club - almost all men, but with only 3 women in the club - they treat us RIGHT! Escorts for every card, great sponosrs, juniors division every year. Find a sitter, get a car load of ladies - we've got space for most everyone to stay locally. April 26&27 - let's have this be the biggest ladies turn out ever - AGAIN!

This is a must show for women. Yall need to find a way. There really is no excuse not to come. There is always a place to stay, and there should be ladies form everywhere going so with proper planning there should be no problems with rides. It is really worth it and every person that shows up is making history and helping the sport grow. Its not just a tournament its an experience.
Nella is right! Bring it ladies, BRING IT!!!

I'm really going to miss TWC this year. Unfortunately, my friend scheduled her wedding on that weekend, and I have to be a bridesmaid. I hope everyone has a great time!

We'll lean on the "other" bald guy! The ladies love all the sponsorship and lavished attention. Unless something has changed, we've been a B tier since it started.

Always a B-tier. And I am always interested in FREE /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif on-line sign up. We will be in contact

This is not on the PDGA tour schedule yet. Are those the dates for sure?
I only ask because I see that Emporia's A-tier is that weekend also. I have always wanted to come to the TWC, but haven't had the chance yet. If its the same weekend as Emporia, I will have a difficult choice to make.
suemac
Dec 28 2007, 06:44 PM
Yes, that is a good date. it is sad that events don't get onto the schedule these days until the sanctioning agreement is completed. Lots of events not on that list.

deidre has been wanting to play this event for a few years now. We may end up making the trip down so she can play and I can caddy :).
any chance there's a mixed dubs the afternoon before for those of us who can't stand to go *all* weekend with no golf? I bet there would be quite a few mixed teams willing to play

Don't make a difficult choice of it. A couple of years ago my wife and daughters came down for this and had a lot of fun. They had lots of positive things to say about this tournament. And it will have a much bigger women's division in pretty much every division you can think of than pretty much any other tournament you might play.

We do things right in Texas. With great support from the local disc golf community, the guys make it an enjoyable weekend for all the girls.

Glad we're playing Cat Hollow again!!! I'm bringing 4 LOLO's with me maybe 5 and Cat Hollow would be perfect for begginners!!
I've never played the Rock, so I am definitely exicted about playing that course for the first time... maybe I can convince the LOLO's to go up there for a practice run before the tourney...:D:p

This year is going to be the best yet! Everyone needs to try and really bring a new lady to this event. Someone at your home course who hasn't played an event yet.
The first year seemed like that happened a bunch, there was a monstor Rec field. Let's get those new girls hooked on tournaments.

COME ON!!!!
I got the red carpet and it will be rolled out.
Ladies it is a major undertaking to hold a all women event, no-one is making money and it's kinda like going to Vegas for us T.D.'s (lots of fun and you are going to lose money)
And attendance is a major factor in running this event.
If ladies don't show up.....then the effort is just not worth it. So lets keep it alive ladies. Yah show up and we will do our best to make it the best for yah.
What yah thoughts on the statement " Chics with Discs"

I read on another thread Juliana is going to try and make it this year.
ladydiscer
Jan 28 2008, 08:55 PM
Not likely on the Juliana thing, unless she will just be there to help out and watch. Word is she is done permanently because of a terrible snowboarding accident that shattered her throwing wrist beyond repair. It truly is a tragedy to see someone as great as her not be able to play anymore. However, that is just the word passed down to me from a trustworthy source.
On a lighter note, I will be able to make this event and I m looking forward to it!!!
suemac
Jan 29 2008, 04:32 PM
Always sad to hear that kinda news, but please come on down and join in the fun.
juliana
Jan 29 2008, 05:56 PM
OK, I need to chime in here. Yes, I fell snowboarding and broke my throwing arm. It is in fact shattered. The word the doctor used was "mush". I broke the distal end of my radius. That is the end of the radius that articulates with the bones of the wrist. The worst part is that I've created a ridge on the edge of the radius where part of the bone broke off and was pushed down (or up toward the elbow depending how you look at it) slightly out of place. This is potentially problematic in that in the future that ridge could catch on the bones of my wrist when I move my wrist. Surgery was not an option because of the "mush" factor as they would have nothing solid enough to pin to.
Now, with all of that being said, let's get to the good news. Every time I see my orthopedic hand specialist, I ask what the best case scenario is for the outcome of this injury and only what the best case scenario is. Every time I have gotten the same answer and that is in 8 months, I would not be able to tell that it had happened. Of course there is a chance that I will get arthritis in the future because of the trauma to the area, but even that is not conclusive.
This is not my first break. I've broken my left arm 4 times and my right hand once. The break to my hand was after I had already started playing disc golf. None of my previous injuries have kept me from doing anything I wanted to after they had healed. I don't expect this one to either. Now, unfortunately, it may take many months before I am back to having full range of motion in this wrist. And I've been advised not to play much disc golf before I do get full range of motion as I could risk further injury. So, this injury will definitely effect my ability to play tournaments this year. However, I do not expect or should I say I will not allow this to determine weather or not I will play tournaments in the future. As far as I'm concerned, this is just a forced time out and at some as yet unknown time in the future, I WILL be able to play tournaments again should I choose to do so.
Thanks for everyone's concern.
Juliana

Juliana - Hope to hear you're back in the fairway in your own time. If anyone I know, knows anything about forced timeouts, it's Edman :( & **** I'm glad to have him back in our fairways :D. So sorry to hear you wont be joining us for play at TWC, but as Ed & I have been saying since July, it's the only body you've got, & you have to live in it forever. Heal quickly, but heal right. :)

This year we'll be using 3 Rock Rock courses, so they're hoping to find something very central to the 3 of them. I agree it was a little $$, but with 3 or 4 people in a room it seems managable.

Rock Rock...hmmm must be just outside of Round Rock. The Wingate is the hotel we have chosen, not sure if there ready for reservations yet. The city may still have to contact them to let them know they won the bid. The Wingate was only $6 more that the cheapest hotel quoted, and seeing that it worked so well last year we decided to return to them. After all, the future of this tournament is about relationships. Thanks sponsors.

That's a bug in my code that I haven't had time to fix yet. It only affects those who pay with an e-check, which is less than 5% of the people who use titledisc. I get a notification from PayPal when you initially pay, and one when your e-check clears. My software isn't (yet) smart enough to realize that the second notification is an update on an old payment and not a new payment. For now, I just periodically audit the entries for any duplicates like that. it's fixed now. :)

Feb 29 2008, 01:21 PM
She's not my competition, so no problem for me. I played with Nicole C. aka SuperGirl in Victoria. Having played with Paige when she was twelve, I suspect we have a much more formidable competitor in the wings.
Always fun to watch the young ones grow up in front of our eyes. And it makes me wish I'd had the opportunity to start at that age. Not after turning 40.
haleigh
Feb 29 2008, 01:26 PM
She won last year, by the way she has been playing, I expect her to do it again. It really is amazing to watch, I played against her a few weeks ago in the Lewisville tournament. There is no way I could beat her so it was a huge weight off my back, so I just played and had fun!
Giles
Feb 29 2008, 01:27 PM
The thing about Page... She doesn't play disc golf. Just shows up at tournaments. Now she has a car and is old enough to drive she may acctually play... I just hope she doesn't play with us guys.

There is no tent camping anywhere close to the Round Rock area. There is an RV park in Old Settlers Park where we'll play Sunday. My parents stay there when they're in town, but it's for RV's only & does not have shower/restroom facilities. It's very nice, has pull through sites with full hook-ups & is in a great location. There is camping - tent style - in Emma Long Park, & that's the closest I've heard (kind of a trek from what I've been told).
And it looks like Paige would have been in 2nd in open, but you don't know how either one of us would have played if she were in open. (I took 2nd in Open last year :))

Yeah, you're right...she very well could've won! Obviously she's a great player, and yeah, she may be young, but she shouldn't be playing in Advanced anymore. She placed 3rd at Am World's last year, and she moved up after that tournament. She played Advanced at Lewisville and won by 18 strokes...and again, she would've won the Open division by 2 strokes.
Paige is a really great player, and I look forward to meeting her this year. I have much respect for her. I'm sure I don't know all the variables behind the reasons for her not moving up. And it's really not my business, but from an out-sider looking in, Paige is far from an Advanced player, that's all.

I've known paige since she was practically a zygote. the kid's good and she's only getting better. I can respect her desire to retain am status for one more year though... she has a real chance to take worlds this year and I think she deserves it.
that said, I thought there was a new provision this year for Ams playing Pro. Something about taking merchandise in lieu of cash to retain am status?

Actually she is playing to her rating, I play with her quite often and she is not ready to be pro. When she is ready she will move up, just don't be mad at her cause she has mad skilz

I think Paige is awesome! Just wanted to make at note about the Lewisville tourney. We played shorter tee's than the open men and women. Her score might have been a little higher if she would have thrown from the longer tees...who knows!!! I like just being in her presence - hoping one day her mad skilz will rub off on me!! haha
Not to change the subject - but I have a question about the tourney. Are the rec and intermediate women playing as many rounds as the advanced and open women this year?
Thanks!

Speak for yourself, I would have a pretty miserable time playing rec men.
Can you explain? Not sure what you mean or imply. If you were speaking of Paige, she should play intermediate men if she crosses over. The rec guys are not going to teach her anything, and that would be miserable.

I got to watch Paige play this year at Am Worlds, and she has a phenomenal drive! She is already a great player and definitely has the potential to be a top-notch pro in a couple of years.
With that said, I think that, if she wants to, Paige is totally free to remain amateur for now. Her rating is 876, and the PDGA suggests that women turn pro after reaching 900. She is seventeen and may have a very good chance to win Am Worlds this year. Personally, I would love to see her win Am Worlds this year before moving up! :)

Hi, Sue! I enjoyed meeting you at Am Worlds in 2006--I still have that awesome pink tie-dye towel you gave me, and I love it!
In my previous post, I never intened to define what a "real pro" was. Any woman who puts the time, effort, and money into going pro deserves to be there! The are a ton of excellent, talented pro women who are rated under 900.
However, in any sport, there will be overlap between the amateur and pro divisions. The PDGA sets 900 as its pretty much so max line for amateur women. Personally, I think that if Paige is under 900 and wants to take a shot at winning Worlds or Nationals, that is totally fine.
I hope you ladies have a huge turnout for the Texas Women's Championships! I wish I could be there :)

Ashley and I are signed up! And more Okies are coming: Tammy Walsh and Shanna Swanson! Tammy's playing Int...Shanna is deciding between Int and Rec. Many of you know Tammy, and Shanna is Coda's girlfriend! Looks like Oklahoma will be representing for sure! Wish we had an Open woman to represent, but since Courtney's gone, that only leaves J. Allen. Don't know what she's up to.
Can't wait for TWC 2008!!!

The courses will offer a variety of styles. Cat Hollow is a shorter course with some rough (cedar trees) - this course is prone to lots of wind. Pretty easy though - if you stay in the fairways. Wilco is a John Houck design and has a great mix of short & long holes through live oak trees - pretty technical with great wind protection throughout. The Winter Rock is a shortened version of Old Settlers Park (used for National Doubles for years). There will be several temp holes on the "Winter Course", but for the most part this course is open & subject to LOTS of wind. The final 18 for Adv & Open will be The Rock. This will include the much longer lake holes & will be very open & MUCH longer than the other 3 courses. Wind can be quite an issue @ The Rock & water comes into play on 4 or 5 holes.
For the most part all of these courses are more open with less elevation that the Women's National courses, but each will provide a variety of challenges. I hope you enjoy your time here in TX as much as I did mine to Ill. :)

Mar 06 2008, 04:30 PM
From what I understand, there's to be a competition between clubs to have the best facilities for players at several locations around the courses. It started out the firt year with just an awning, chairs, & some chocolates. Each year has gotten a little more elaborate. Can't wait to see what the boys come up with this year. At the meeting on Tuesday, I heard that Waterloo will be giving away a basket at their girlie station... Last year LIIIVE Oak gave an entry to LOSO. What will this year bring?

If anyone is interested, there are Mini's on each of these courses coming up. Thursdays 5:30, doubles @ Cat Hollow, $7; Wednesdays 5:00, doubles @ Old Settlers (THE ROCK hole 1)$5; Sunday rotates for us, Wilco is the 1st Sunday of each month, singles $10. 2 ladies last night @ THE ROCK, love to see some out tonight @ Cat Holow. BIG ACE POTS @ THE ROCK ($250)& WILCO ($500), Cat Hollow is starting back up this week.
Wish I could get there by 5:30. Way to go ladies :D

I want challenge the clubs of Texas. Texas Womens Championships is April 26 & 27 and we want to present the opportunity to highlight your club during the TWC. We started the girly station experience and we want the clubs of Texas to improve on that idea.
Last year was a very successful experience for the ladies and the girly station was a big part of that. Consider representing your club by having the best girly station. We have designated areas to best serve the ladies. Contact Ed Coffey or me and we will ensure a place in the action.
And of course we will accept any form of sponsorship. So if you cannot be involved in a girly station, then make sure to support the event with sponsorship, escorts or my favorite CASH. Behind every man is a lady, so dont miss the opportunity to back a lady. I will be the first to recognize support and the first to point out lack of involvement. SEND ME YOUR LADIES!

Plans for a great players party Saturday night - in addition to the meet & greet @ the Wingate Friday - are coming along nicely. This years escort service is shaping up better than ever, & the girly station competition should make things really special for all the ladies playing.
Now that these guys & gals have worked so hard to bring this great event together, let's make sure to reward them with a great turn out. Let's break a record this year & wow them all that 90 ladies can make a little b tier in TEXAS - cause we all know - TEXAS WOMEN ROCK!!

She's also asked me to see if it's ok for her to wear a tanktop?

Tank tops are ok - esp in Rec, but I wouldn't advise it for all weekend due to some of the shule on Cat Hollow & Wilco & I wouldn't at the Rock as the course is very open and allows for little shade.

The club is hosting one of the Girly Stations. Sheldon Parker is coordinating the clubs station, but needs another two or three people to help him that weekend, April 26 & 27. Weve got to get the stuff out there to the Round Rock / Williamson County parks, set up, break down, buy some things, and give stuff away. We are going to give a nice basket to one of the players, and we're working on having a little something for one of the escorts too :D. Well also have water for the women to refill their bottles, plus other stuff to show them how much we appreciate their being part of our great sport.
If you can help, please contact Sheldon at 945-5445 (he doesnt have email and doesn't read the Board, so give him a call).

It was actually left on a pic-nic table where Jenn, Jessica, Melissa, Ashley and I were sitting during lunch. We discussed it and we should have picked it up. But, figured it was left there for a reason and you were coming back for it. It was there with 2 other of Tiff's disc. Sorry, I failed. Hopefully, someone picked it up. Good luck!
